I don't understand why people are getting so worked up because of this cover. Come on, guys, it's a cover, it's not supposed to be like the original version. And personally, I really like this and it's perfect for the movie.
It really not like anybody's trying to replace Amy Winehouse because no one can. It's just a dope ass cover to a song. I think Andre 3000 and Beyoncè were perfect for it.
I'm sorry that Amy fans are disappointed and don't like their remake of the song but this song is everything. The beat, Andre 3000's swagger and Beyonce's vocals on this just draws you in and makes you want more. & I'm not even a big Beyonce fan but she slayed this!!! Her part makes me feel magical.. like i can do ANYTHING!!! Love, love love this! (No hate or disrespect to Amy either. She was amazing too!)
Totally agree. The soundtrack is great. A lot of interesting covers of the original songs etc. It so suits the movie and introduces a variety of songs to people who will never have heard the originals. :)
Many disagreed with the music choice for The Great Gatsby. I, for one, thought it was brilliant. Both the flapper music of the 1920s and modern day rap reflect the same culture. The "I kinda just do what I want" sentiment, if you will. It is a sentiment mocked, ridiculed, and shamed in The Great Gatsby. It produces the field of ashes which lay before the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg. And yet you see here, rap music fans coming and listening over and over to the same music that is being ridiculed by the director, entranced. Look at *****. She calls this art. Winehouse, she calls one of the greatest artists of our time, when in reality, it may very well been Winehouse herself who pulled the trigger and killed Gatsby. She is the embodiment of the horrible culture. Should have gone to rehab, or at least read up on her Gatsby
Jack Roberts Agreed. I usually dislike modern music, but the songs used for this movie were great, and blended in with the jazz and '20s partying brilliantly.
When I did the show Gatsby, we started it off with this song and did choreography with it. It was great because Tom was dancing with Daisy and Jordan, and at "I go back to her, and you go back to" or whatever, Daisy looked behind her at Gatsby and Tom would look at Jordan. I loved doing that show.
what makes this movie great is the music and the possibility for a man to love a woman just like this! to love her more than he loves anyone or anything else! everything Gatsby did or had was for Daisy. But that love had already past him. what an awesome movie and soundtrack!!!
I'm not saying people should hate . . . But Winehouse was undeniably one of the best vocal talents the world has ever seen. So you can't say that purists don't know what music is because they are fans of hers can you? Especially when she performed with a piano, or an acoustic guitar and this is a lot of digital reverb. I like this cover, it's a cool modern take that fits the film VERY well, but it has lost all of the soul and the emotion that Amy put into it in the original.
JLFGarnett "Undeniably one of the best vocal talents the world has ever seen." that may be one of the biggest overstatements I have ever heard. I'm not denying Amy Winehouse had a large amount of talent but her vocal talent was not one of the bests in the world.
Omg folks GET OVER IT! If they had wanted the original it would have been on the bloody soundtrack. No, they wanted Andre and Beyonce. I can appreciate both versions as all 3 artists are unique in their own gifted ways. If you do not like it, you might not know but there's a little "x" in the corner or a little arrow somewhere. You can hit it and exit your misery. K thanks bye! I however will continue to hit repeat.
I like both Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and this one. It's better if you think of them as two completely different things. Also, stop bitching please.
the point of this song and the other soundtracks for the movie wasn't a salute to the originals, it was for the movie, the concept of mixing this day and ages rnb 'gangster' music with the music 'gangsters' from the time period the film was based in would listen to, and i love that idea
I loved the soundtrack to this movie. It added a certain "I'm rich, badass, and idgaf" feeling. It was nice how they were able to mix 20s music and modern music.Plus, it added to the party scenes.
I think this cover is pretty good. Its just a different version. I know the movie wanted to make each song modern with tones of 1920s music to bring in the view so I think its quite ingenious. Agreed, I thing Amy Winehouse's version is better, but this song did make it's needed point across in the movie...and the beat is pretty sick :3
jazz music from the 20s mixed with new age hip hop I LOVE THIS THE 20s jazz era would have been awesome to live through until the depression hit hard terring lives apart
I love all the new music redone to better suit the style of The Great Gatsby, because it helps draw parallels between the jazz age and the current era. It's easy for a movie about a past time period to seem boring from our perspective in the present, but the musical score helps Gatsby achieve an increased relevance
If you think about the actual theme of this movie, copying Amy's version wouldn't have worked. Like, at all. A cover is not always meant to sing it just like the original singer. It's to your discretion to have it fit YOUR voice/whatever you are trying to fulfill.
I don't know why everyone hates it so much, I adore this version. It's just an interpretation guys, it's meant to reflect the sensual decadence of The Great Gatsby
If the song didn't have Andre's part it wouldn't reflect the story at all. I love this book and the movie still hasn't come out where I live, but if you know the story, I feel this song does perfect justice to it. I think it has a beautiful melancholy and jaded feel to it. It's great!
and not only that with this modorn and old music mix we can easily compare that time with ours right now , Because this timeless story happens everywhere. God and I just love that movie its so well made haven't seen such a great movie in a very very ling time!!
I don't see why people complain so much over many songs in the film. They are all like i have never heard before and it was SO refreshing to hear something mostly original than all that other stuff. Do you guys even know how much trouble it took? Much of the music was recorded for the film. And they all fit certain moments in the movie.
AMAZING.... That's how a cover should be...total different from the original.... There is only one Amy... But this version is superb... and it grows on you...like an addiction...
I love this song. Period. Amy's original is legendary. But Beyoncé's cover fit well with the rest of the hypnotic, modern soundtrack of the Great Gatsby. Am I the only one that listened to this without judging 'which is better'? It seems a shame to hate on music. It's one of the greatest gifts to mankind.
Only reason Leonardo DiCaprio did not win an oscar for such a long time was because of his refusal to fully immerse himself the darkness of holiday and illuminati and when he did he won but yet hasn't looked more miserable than now
This song makes me feel like a million bucks
Lil'RedCorvette022 Oh but baby, you are a million bucks. ;)
I don't understand why people are getting so worked up because of this cover. Come on, guys, it's a cover, it's not supposed to be like the original version. And personally, I really like this and it's perfect for the movie.
That's so true! Covers aren't meant to be exact replicas! 😎
I think the same 😉
@@SalemBinxsMom shut Up stupid
This song is so bad ass
It really not like anybody's trying to replace Amy Winehouse because no one can. It's just a dope ass cover to a song. I think Andre 3000 and Beyoncè were perfect for it.
It's only a COVER SONG. people need to calm down. Beyonce sang it amazingly and the beat goes so well with the movie.
Vanessa Achere
The movie is all about the jazz age? The book certainly is. Surely jazz would have been a much better choice?
I'm sorry that Amy fans are disappointed and don't like their remake of the song but this song is everything. the song is a portal to another world and u are the king or queen of it
The soundtrack is amazing. Sexy, solid, a slightly melancholic.
the movie was pure excellence
Rest in peace Amy- and this cover is great holy shit
Totally agree. The soundtrack is great. A lot of interesting covers of the original songs etc. It so suits the movie and introduces a variety of songs to people who will never have heard the originals. :)
Awesome rendition!! I think Amy W. would be proud!!
I cant say its better than the original, but damn, that's good!!!

I recognize that while Amy Winehouse isn't strictly rap, she does promote the same culture with her music.
Jack Roberts Agreed. I usually dislike modern music, but the songs used for this movie were great, and blended in with the jazz and '20s partying brilliantly.
Fuck the people who disagreed. There tastless fool's.
***** *Their. That was just about the opposite of my point, but okay

I love this song! there is something cool and fancy about it....
I love The Great Gatsby I love this song sooooo much
Gatsby has good music
When I did the show Gatsby, we started it off with this song and did choreography with it. It was great because Tom was dancing with Daisy and Jordan, and at "I go back to her, and you go back to" or whatever, Daisy looked behind her at Gatsby and Tom would look at Jordan. I loved doing that show.

LOVE . No song needs to out weigh the other . They are two completely songs to me, one sad one seductive. Both Beautiful and equally well done.

Wow! Nice. I love songs from The Great Gatsby 33
that jazzy trough the song is really amazing, the film was beautiful too
Amy is a legend, I think they did a great job with this. I fit the movie perfectly too. Andre and B's voice go well together.
I love both versions of this song, I heard this version first because my Dad had the great gatspy album on his iPod.
I like both Amy Winehouse's Back to Black and this one. It's better if you think of them as two completely different things. Also, stop bitching please.
All the music in The new Great Gatsby is BAD ASS !!! POINT BLANK
the point of this song and the other soundtracks for the movie wasn't a salute to the originals, it was for the movie, the concept of mixing this day and ages rnb 'gangster' music with the music 'gangsters' from the time period the film was based in would listen to, and i love that idea
Still one of my favorites
This song grows on me the more I listen to it.
Great song, great collaboration!!! I wish Amy Winehouse was around to appreciate the great music of her time. I think she would be proud.
Beyonce part is epic

I liked Beyonce's part...
+luv2punk and besides...if Bey ever covered one of MY songs I'd be going crazy with pride so I'm sure Ms Winehouse would have felt honoured too
I don't know why everyone hates it so much, I adore this version. It's just an interpretation guys, it's meant to reflect the sensual decadence of The Great Gatsby
Love it. What a good job, its just as good as Amy's version. Both versions are unique and fantastic.
Love Amy WInehouse, but Beyonce does a great job with her song. It's apples and oranges like them both.
This version fits perfectly with the vibe of the movie! Love it!

...Nice subtle sample of part of the solo from the 1979 Blondie song, "Atomic" at about 1:26.
not my favorite cover but it suits the mood of the film and that makes it for me! so amazing
Great Gatsby is soo aweshumm!!! reading the book too c:
young and beautiful was the best song
I love this song!

Repeat mode! I loved the Great Gatsby and soundtrack as well!
Amazing!
A lot of people are saying they butchered the song but the transition of two opposite genres of music and switching the beat to make it sexy.
Omg love this version !!!
I actually like this version, suits the movie perfectly. And beyonces voice is just amazing
This is my favorite song on the soundtrack!
Its crazy beautiful song.. :).....like all song for The GREAT GATSBY ;) I love you LEO ;* :)
