As a 14x owner who picked it up for around $650 in the US and am mulling upgrading to the new one for better GPU and battery life (my only complaints), this was a great and timely video. Thank you!
Funnily enough, I watched it and said to the team... we can do better. This one was filmed about a month ago but we put it on hold for a month to properly test latest bios updates. We must be accurate for you. New ones are better. There is a really funny one coming end of next week
$1,300 I think is a bit high for what you're getting. Right now for $200 more at Costco ($1,500), you can get their version of the Lenovo Slim Pro 9 that has the i9-13905H, RTX4050, 32GB ram, 1TB SSD, and a 16" miniLED screen. Well worth the extra $200 in upgrades IMHO.
But that's a big 16 inch laptop not a 14 inch one. Also, ASUS has the 14X OLED with the same specs as the lenovo but a 3050 6GB instead of 4050 and it goes for $1,499 retail price. If I were out in the market for a 14 inch laptop, I'd get the 14X OLED instead of the lenovo.
@@fidelisitor8953Not sure, so many new killer laptops coming soon in 2024 Id wait a bit. The i9 version of the Zenbook 14x w/3050 that you mention is great except for the battery life which is why I rather wait for Ultra 9s from Intel.
@@fidelisitor8953 according to Asus' website, the max GPU the 14X uses is the RTX 3050.. an older generation GPU than the RTX 4050. Maybe you were talking about the Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED that uses the RTX 4070 for $2100? Either way in my opinion... miniLED>OLED.
Got this laptop a few weeks back here in the UK. Still has the Numpad feature on the trackpad. But the base model only comes with 16gb of RAM compared to the 32gb in the US model. My Cinebench 2024 results where a different to yours with the latest BIOS (301): Single Core: 97 Multi Core: 725 I still think there is room for improvement from ASUS with a few more BIOS updates which I hope we will see. Especially compared to HP in terms of battery efficiency. But overall I am happy with this laptop and it will be a great asset for me when I am traveling.
Glad to hear this as I’ve had my eye on this laptop for a month. I was going to purchase the ultra 7 16gb version but then saw ASUS updated the website and in mid Feb are releasing the ultra 5 and ultra 9 models with the ram upgrade to 32gb so holding off till then! (UK) Maybe you can return the one you have for a faster model?
@@joshhart4089 I have the exact same laptop (Ultra 7) as this review apart from 16gb of ram. So in theory benchmarks should be similar. My Single core is slightly lower than Josh but my Multi Core is quicker. Little bummed they are now offering the 32gb model. But 16gb should be enough for what I do web browsing etc. Its basically a secondary machine.
Yeah past intel processors have terrible efficiency & battery life. The impressive thing about the 14x though was the silent mode which really tamped down on the fan noise to being nonexistent for majority of the time. I currently have the yoga 9i and the fans are incessantly on for even light tasks such as web browsing. The two main reasons I returned the 14x was the bottom firing speakers which sounded muffled when not on a hard surface and preferring a 2in1. The 14x laptop is still a best buy this year.
I have seen "hardware canucks" and "Andrew Marc David" Intel Core ULTRA series 1 has MacBook 2023 level of BATTERY LIFE and has FASTER video editing than MacBook 2023. Many "X" users also tested many METEOR Lake laptops and said same thing that it has MacBook level of BATTERY LIFE.
Got the 155H/32GB/1TB model for my wifey, as an upgrade to her older Lenovo Yoga Slim 1135g7/16GB/512GB, and she is liking the feel, speed and especially the OLED screen. This is really a good one for the price. For myself I upgraded by 5850U based EliteBook to EliteBook 835 G10 7840U/32GB/2TB Samsung 990 Pro as my daily driver. If you do some content creation (photo, video) like my wife, the ZenBook OLED is the way to go.
I need a touchscreen laptop for uni. I was looking at 2 rlly good choices, the Zenbook 14 (which is on sale for 1919 here in Australia) and Yoga Pro 7i (on sale for 1830). But I could get a business laptop asw, Like that Elitebook u mentioned, or a Thinkpad X1 Yoga G7, they have tradeoffs right, more expensive, but with matte displays and better keyboards.
@@rizdog5735 Go for Zenbook 14, for uni, much better battery life, bright screen, good price and keyboard is ok, not as good as EliteBook and definitely not ThinkPad.
Depends what you want. 155h + 2X better graphics + live longer from battery + new processor - pricy 13700h + more powerful + 1,5X cheaper - pretty bad graphic (not for games) - cannot work for 5-7 hours away from plug unless you are a linux user and know how to customise you power drawing. Depends what you want. In country where I live the price difference only 20%, between 155h/32/1 and 13700/16/1 . So, im getting 155h... In states you can get 13700 for 700$ from BB deal or even cheaper.
I think this replaces the 14x oled from last year. 2023 14x oled has the same price, and mostly same specs. differences are it has i9 13th gen and rtx3050. for the same price, which one is the better buy right now in Jan 2024?

Hi Josh, I have a question regarding the display. Since it's an OLED touchscreen, is there a visible mesh grid and how bad does it look? Saw a couple of people complaining on Reddit but it was for the 2023 version. Thanks!
If it is a touch display, chances are great it has this horible "screen door effect", also known as moire effect! And looking at this video I paused a few time and I could definitly see this moire effect :'(
@@JustJoshTech Just look closer to the display and open a white/gray background... Only Samsung AmoLed is spared of this dreadfull screen door effect 😢
You are right! - 3 of us here have now tried this on the new Asus Zenbook 14 (2024) as well as the new HP Spectre 14 (2024). All of us noticed the grain/mesh from about 12inches or less from the screen. I normally sit 18inches so its hard to see. The MacBook 14 with it's MiniLed display does not exhibit this. This will be mentioned in future videos.
I have one but the battery life is not that good compared to my Macbook Air. Intel needs to do much better with battery life even for basic things like watching videos

ZenBook 14 somehow still remains the most underrated laptop (not on this channel) in the product segment. And while the price is higher, I'm certain they'll sell for around $500 at some point this year at Best Buy. It never makes sense, but on Best Buy's website they go on sale twice a year for anywhere from 30% to 70% off. I had a chance to get the 12th gen model for $340, and I found the AMD model with MX450 for $212. Year after year they somehow pull this off whenever they phase out a model. Even the non-open box versions, well under 500.
What a shame that Lenovo dropped their 14" Slim Pro 9i for this year, they could have won the category easily. There's a lot of shames about Lenovo this year, but it's good to see Asus is at least taking feedback from last year's model and improving in some areas. Hoping to see some better mini-LED options in the market for 2024, as I'll be finally deciding on a new model by the summer.
I'd be interested to know which BIOS version you were using for this review (301 is the latest), if you know. Some of the reviews I've been seeing for this laptop look like it's a fair bit worse in both battery and CPU performance than expected for having near-identical components to the Spectre, which is especially surprising to me given the slightly larger battery in the Zenbook. I read that the first few BIOS versions were lacking some important updates so I'm wondering if that could be the reason for the poor results seen in a lot of reviews. It's difficult to track down whether different reviewers updated the BIOS or not before reviewing so any information you can share on this would be super helpful!
Check our recent x1c video. It has the absolute latest version. We re tested for that video

I have the 2023 version. Battery is trash tbh, but I have an i7-13700H... So no surprises there, seems like that for a powerful CPU with good battery you need to go ARM, although I treat my laptops as my car so maybe that is important as well lol "I paid for the whole speedometer I'm gonna use the whole speedometer" I always keep my ZenBook in performance + 120Hz

I just picked up a 14x for $700 but I am tempted to return it and get this new 14 with the core ultra. I am just not sure if it is worth the extra $600 for 16gb more ram, the Npu and better gpu performance. Any thoughts anyone
Could you take a few seconds in your videos to mention linux hardware compatibility? thanks. Sometimes I want to buy a laptop but I don't know if all the hardware is linux compatible.
I got the 2023 14x a week ago, but I didn’t get it on sale. Your videos insinuate that while its a decent computer, its really only worth it if you buy it on sale. Do you think I should return it & grab something else? I’m a business student & I need a new laptop for school & other work.
Last year year I ordered both the 14x oled (USD 699 at Bestbuy) and the 14 (USD 629 AT Walmart at the time). I returned the 14 due to its excessive fan noise and kept the 14x oled as it did not have that issue and was zippy. Happy I did so, also as the new Intel processors dont seem all that. Would have loved the weight of the 14 though for day to day travel purposes.
I like your review but something’s not making sense… You say with same 155H HP SpecterX 360 has higher cinebench score than this zenbook due to higher power consumption. But then its battery life (with a smaller battery size) is better than this zenbook. very strange… not adding up.

Maybe you can answer me, my question is: When I have to use a few Programms which need windows, but mostly can use Programms that run on Windows and MacOS. Which is the best 14” laptop to buy? My options are the MacBook Pro 14 M2 Max (3000€), or the Zenbook 14 x OLED 2023 (1999€), maybe now the 14 oled (1700€). I wanted 32 gb ram and 1 tb ssd. Hi Josh, thank you for a great video. Does it still make sense to get last year's version? And in that case, is it better to opt for the model with the Intel i5-1340P or the Ryzen 5 7530U processor? I don't need thunderbolt capability, just a snappy everyday performance, good battery life and a machine that will last me for at least 5 years or so.

Just a generic question regarding your testing process on all your test laptops samples. Is their ANY non-biased data reporting source that could indicate the reliability of the laptop being tested or the warranty repair capability of the manufacturer or their reputation for their warranty repair work? Personally, I doubt that. Most things I have read over the years regarding that topic are reports based upon essentially non-statistical owner testimonials. Pity. In some ways that bit of information would be more useful to a perspective owner of a particular laptop than say how that laptop did on a particular benchmark test. Otherwise, very nice review (as always) of the Asus Zenbook 14.
Does the i9 model has pcie v5? Because the chipset 185H) and the processor do support pcie 5. They avoid to mention the interface, they only refer to the pcie v4 disk tha comes with it. I wonder if they are just keeping it quiet in order to not hurt the other models
But the most disppointing fact is that it does not have the backlit Numberpad on the touchpad in the latest model. Why AUSUS has thoughtlessly removed this great feature?
yeah i dont know whats going on with the core ultra performance inconsistencies. I briefly had a zenbook 14 with the 7 155h and both cinebench r23 and r24 both said it was slower than an m1 macbook air lol. That was after multiple hours of troubleshooting mind you.
Is this worth getting for $699? Ultra 7, 16gb ram, 1tb storage. I prefer this over xps 13 for the number of ports. But don't want regular fan noise if that is an issue. Any inputs?
I have last year's 14x, and it's terrific, especially for $699. Only having 16 GB hurts it though. I just had my company pick up the 2024 version in this video, considering I don't have to pay for it myself lol. The battery life, RAM, and ARC graphics seem like pretty huge upgrades in my view.

"heat you feel" is a bit of a misnomer for the test, is it? After all you dont feel degrees of celsius. To get degrees celsius you have to measure it, which is quite the opposite of feeling ;)

Also I would like to see your review of 'Asus ExpertBook B9 OLED', every laptop reviewers say very good things about this laptop.
This is the first video I see about this notebook and it's processor that is negatively. How can it be that in your video the CPU is so inefficient? Others said now with meter lake and it's super efficient cores it has a much longer battery life.
I hate how everytime I think I've found the perfect laptop this channels proves me wrong 😂 love your content and the info you provide 🙌 Can I get a laptop recommendation for content creation (video editing - Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, graphics design and UI design). PS: thoughts on the new Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i (2024)? Hope to see a review on it here soon 😁
Does Asus plan to release this laptop with Ryzen processor which gave better battery life like last year? That would be nice to have same battery life as last year with 32GB ram.
Cinebench 2024 must go. Cinebench R23 is a lot more informative and you can test out the GPU performance with a proper GPU benchmark or a real workload (I prefer only real workloads). A jack of all trades is a master of none.
A couple of notes for you... R23 doesn't properly utilize Mac hardware, so we need 2024 to do cross laptop benchmarks. Also we don't use 2024 to test the graphics anyway right now. We use real gameplay benchmarks, Timespy, and other tests
@@JustJoshTech I know that R23 is x86_64 based and cannot be used to evaluate Macbooks. But real workloads can be, which is why I'd prefer to see real benchmarks. Apple loves to brag about the benchmark results themselves, but they don't want their customers to know that the media encode engine basically stays the same throughout all three generations of Apple silicon with small changes here and there. Which is why real workloads are needed. For instance, to test the single core performance, one can use the Speedometer 2.0 (or newer) benchmark to test out how fast JavaScript loads on web pages. To get the laptops to behave nicely, laptops with similar AMD processors could be limited to around 12-15W with an app called UXTU, for instance, because each laptop behaves differently on battery power and we'd want to use optimized values for the best performance and battery life ratio, just because we can (AMD doesn't restrict this). Just remember how much people love tweaking their ThinkPads, not contempt with the out of the box user experience. You can compare the two experiences to show how good the laptop is out of the box and how good it might be made if you were to do the manufacturer's job for them optimizing the CPU's TDP and maximum single core performance (both Intel and Ryzen CPUs are now overclocked from factory, and you would want to lower the maximum frequency by 10% for single-core to get way better efficiency and considerably less heat output while plugged into AC). I'd also like to see how RTX 4050/4060 laptops fair in video rendering tasks compared to RTX 4070 and higher. I don't think one needs to overspend on a GPU for professional workloads (not strictly gaming, which, as you know, is a waste of time)
Hp pavilion Plus 14 (68 Wh) with #AMD 7840U has 10 to 11 hours of BATTERY. Hp spectre x360 14 (68 Wh) with #Intel Core ULTRA 7 155H has 14 to 15 hours of BATTERY. 😱 Intel laptops BATTERY life is as good as MacBook M2/M3 even though Intel is using Tiles/Chiplet. Impressive🤯 💪

My Cinebench 2024 results where a different to yours with the latest BIOS (301):
Single Core: 97
Multi Core: 725
I still think there is room for improvement from ASUS with a few more BIOS updates which I hope we will see. Especially compared to HP in terms of battery efficiency.
But overall I am happy with this laptop and it will be a great asset for me when I am traveling.
Glad to hear this as I’ve had my eye on this laptop for a month.
I am considering the 14X, would you still recommend it?
I agree. Specs-wise it is good no doubt about it but battery omg Im always glued near to an outlet.

Hi. How often do you check for this sales? Also, you bought that one i. 340 refurbished or new?
I'll wait for you to eat your words. Jk. I don't agree that this would be $500 but feel free to wait.
But Josh and Team, if I had to choose between last year’s 14X and this new 14, which one then?
Hopefully they answer, I had the same question
I had settled on getting the new 14 but, after this video... I don't know.
I would also like some advice.
For the improved battery life alone I'd pick the new 14 over last years 14X.
What laptop you recommend for video editing? As been looking at Dell XPS and Asus zenbook?
I'm comparing this too. Have you made any purchase?
I like your review but something’s not making sense…

No, and it shouldn’t, given the significant heat output of pcie 5 devices.
Is the chassis the same (or similar in build quality) as the zenbook x, pro or s variants or is it mostly just a difference of internals?
But the most disppointing fact is that it does not have the backlit Numberpad on the touchpad in the latest model. Why AUSUS has thoughtlessly removed this great feature?
yeah i dont know whats going on with the core ultra performance inconsistencies. I briefly had a zenbook 14 with the 7 155h and both cinebench r23 and r24 both said it was slower than an m1 macbook air lol. That was after multiple hours of troubleshooting mind you.

I am confused between Asus Zenbook 14 and Spectre x360 (both Ultra 7 with 32 GB). In India, Spectre x360 is INR 45,000/- (approx. 550 USD / 425 GBP) costlier. Is the Spectre worth the extra money ?
My review on Spectre is out on Saturday. Wait for that. It has this answer
@@JustJoshTech Oh great! Will be waiting!
Just got this laptop Asus 14 oled screen I really don’t like the oled screen it’s horrible to sit and work with.
Could you recommend any other laptop model 14 inch without oled I can’t stand oled on laptops.. is there any Screens?
Consider adding DAWBench instead to test real-time audio performance. This should be a good real-world use-case benchmark of a laptop's DPC latency.
6:21 But you still compare 1300 usd laptop with 32/1024 to 2000 usd laptop with 8/256
Hey Josh, will you guys cover the Galaxy book 4 or the LG laptops?
Best regards
windows laptops need to take care of heating and fan issues for ultrabook if they want to compete with apple laptop in ultrabook category.
Hello Josh, I have never seen you review workstation laptops such as 'HP ZBook Fury 16 G10' and 'Lenovo ThinkPad P1 G6'. You include expensive Macbook M3s in the tables, but you do not include workstation laptops among the best laptops. I would like to see this type of laptops on your channel in the future. Also I would like to see your review of 'Asus ExpertBook B9 OLED', every laptop reviewers say very good things about this laptop.
This is the first video I see about this notebook and it's processor that is negatively. How can it be that in your video the CPU is so inefficient? Others said now with meter lake and it's super efficient cores it has a much longer battery life.
so go for the old version or the HP (if you don't care about dodgy QA)
I hate how everytime I think I've found the perfect laptop this channels proves me wrong 😂 love your content and the info you provide 🙌
Can I get a laptop recommendation for content creation (video editing - Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, graphics design and UI design). I love the specs of Macbook Pro's but I am not a fan of the IOS system, so I am looking for an alternative Windows laptop at around the $2k budget range.
PS: thoughts on the new Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i (2024)? Hope to see a review on it here soon 😁
I laughed out loud at this comment. Yeah I'd say 202r G16 or Yoga Pro 9i will be likely contenders for you
I was planning on buying that laptop but I end up buying an Acer Nitro 5. That laptop is never in stock at my local Best Buy.
That's a completely different category
@@OnlyCitrus I know right? I wasn’t sure if the zenbook could handle programming.
as a person who's going to use the laptop for 6-7 years, oled is just not an option for me. Try whatever you want, can't beat physics, it'll burn out
He is doing Shenanigans
@@HDRPCDude, I've seen you spamming the exact same comments on this video; enough already!
@@cameronbosch1213 watch Andrew Marc David or Hardware Canucks.
Does Asus plan to release this laptop with Ryzen processor which gave better battery life like last year? That would be nice to have same battery life as last year with 32GB ram.
Please make it 15-16 inch big and add nummeric keypad and it will be more awesome
To be clear.... for graphics, we actually use the laptops. Editing on them, playing games on them etc.
I don't think one needs to overspend on a GPU for professional workloads (not strictly gaming, which, as you know, is a waste of time)
Have the screen flickering problem on 2024 model. Still can't fix.
hi. can You compare ThiS ASUS ZENBOOK 14 32 1 TB with ASUS EXPERTBOOK 14 B9 ? Is that ASUS B9 more better ?
Any recommendations for a new high end slim ish quiet laptop that can do a bit of games?
Next week
Hp spectre 2024
Hp pavilion Plus 14 (68 Wh) with #AMD 7840U has 10 to 11 hours of BATTERY.
Hp spectre x360 14 (68 Wh) with #Intel Core ULTRA 7 155H has 14 to 15 hours of BATTERY. 😱
Intel laptops BATTERY life is as good as MacBook M2/M3 even though Intel is using Tiles/Chiplet.
Impressive🤯
💪
I have seen "hardware canucks" and "Andrew Marc David"
Intel Core ULTRA series 1 has MacBook 2023 level of BATTERY LIFE and has FASTER video editing than MacBook 2023.
The new HP Omen 14 might fit your bill.
Does this have the grainy screen effect OLED touch screens tend to?
can you please look at the ASUS Zenbook DUO 2024? Thank you very much!!!
