Every floor has exactly 2 rooms with chests in them. One of them will have a gun while the other will have either a passive upgrade, or an active item. While brown chests don't have good guns, their items provide decent passive upgrades. So, if your first chest gives you a gun, it might be worth opening up that brown chest, rather than destroying it.
EDIT: Also, if you beat the boss before gaining a new gun, the boss is guaranteed to drop one, rather than an upgrade or item. This can be used to stock up some firepower early in the game. The tradeoff is that you have to beat the boss with your base weapons.
While we're on bosses, Master Rounds are probably the most important item to any run, because they provide an extra heart container, and can give you some breathing room later in the game. At the very least, you should be trying to consistently beat the floor one boss without taking damage. You'll be fighting them a lot, so you'll have plenty of time to get to know their patterns.
Lastly, while dodge rolling is effective, it leaves you vulnerable, since you can't change direction. Most of the bullets being shot at you are slow, so it's more effective to strafe and weave through them, and dodge rolling when that's not possible.

@@UncomfortableGameShorts I don't deserve all the credit. A lot of it is stuff I picked up from other videos. I'm just adding stuff that you didn't mention. You did cover a lot of good tips for first time players though. I normally would scrap the brown chests before hearing that tip.
The big hurdle is the first floor boss, since most of the NPCs are locked on the second floor, you can't really make any progress until you can consistently beat it. There's no way to grind exp or power up your weapons beforehand. You just gotta get good through trial and error., and keep tossing yourself at that wall until it breaks.

    Here's a tip:
There's a secret stat called "Magnificence" wherein it denotes the chances of you getting an A-tier or S-tier chest. Once you open an A-tier or S-tier chest, your Magnificence will drop. You can reset your Magnificence stat by saving on the floor you opened an A-/S-tier chest. The next time you continue your game, you chances of encountering top tier chests on that current floor you're on will be reset to a higher rate. It's helped me a lot in many runs & I hope it does the same for you too. Good luck, Gungeoneers.

Whoa this is a pro level tip! So if I open an A/S ranked chest and then save after the boss, then go right back into the next level, this Magnificence stat resets? Next level! Thanks for this hidden tip. had no clue in all the research I did. Did you happen to watch my original review (which also shares some tips)? I'm impressed by how much people who love this game know about it. You might be able to share some more secret info in the comments there ;) ruclips.net/video/01Miyhcn67g/видео.html

some tips from someone who has 100%ed the game
-beating a characters past a second time will unlock their alternate starting weapon
    - saving 5 caped bullet kin will unlock the bullet
-taking the broken tv from the second floor elevator shaft all the to the forge will unlock the robot
    - after completing the main four pasts a weird puddle can show up, stepping in the puddle will leave your character pardoxed
-beating the game paradoxed will unlock the paradox
    - reaching the paradox's past will restart your run as the gunslinger
-beating the lich as gunslinger will unlock the gunslinger
-the paradox stars with a random weapon and passive, and the gunslinger starts with the best passive in the game " Lich Eye Bullets"
-the robot gains a passive 5% damage increase for every piece of junk you have in your inventory
-locked brown chests have a very small chance to being a rainbow chest in disguise
-any type of chest can be "glitched" opening the chest will take you to a glitched boss fight where you can get really good items and skip all the way to fourth floor
-bosses have a dps cap that prevents the player from killing bosses too fast, however some guns can bypass the dps cap some examples being the makeshift canon and the yari launcher
-flying allows you to cheese the winchester minigame
-there is setting in the option menu labelled "beast mode" it does absolutely nothing, beating the game with it active unlocks a weapon
-the higher your curse the more likely "jammed enemies" will appear, they have significantly more hp than normal enemies, and their attacks deal an entire heart instead of half
-some weapons can turn a jammed enemy into a normal enemy, however i dont think they de-jam bosses
-there is a glitch with bullets sword that is extremely useful, when you reload with the sword a guard animation will play out, if at max hp you guard reload and flick your cursor you can deal damage to an entire room, its easy to do on PC, on console its a bit harder but possible
-ser junkan gets more powerful the more junk you have, however his final form is actually weaker than his second to last form
-if you destroy a high rarity chest there is chance for something called gold junk to appear, pickup it will give you 500 money
-gold junk also transform junkan into mecha junkan
-if you attempt daisukes challenge, never pick up back-up gun, ive lost more times than i care to admit because of this.
-blessing of the gun is pretty easy if you are playing as gunslinger, and even easier if you are playing rainbow mode

Don't forget!! To fight the resourceful rat you have to buy the key in the shop on the second floor, then find the trap door somewhere on the third floor. It'll be somewhat dusty and I find that running around on top of it "dusts" it off and allows you to interact with it. You have to unlock the trap door with a key, then ride the minecart to almost the end. Now, use a blank to open the secret door and walk down the hall and use another blank. Then use the key you bought on the sewer grate. This is a late game fight that you probably won't access until you beat the game a few times. Also the rat is notoriously difficult

Some other points on the DPS cap:
      1) The cap is not a constant value. The main change in value comes from the floor you are on ([30/42/60/70/78/80] dps for [1st + Oub./2nd + Abbey/3rd/4th/5th/Hell] respectively). The value can also change based on game mode. Co-op increases the cap by 70% across all floors. Boss Rush mode removes DPS cap entirely.
      2) The cap is applied over a 3 second window, so if you know you are hitting the cap consistently, take some time to just dodge so that you don't waste ammo.
      3) The most damage a single bullet can do is 3 times that floor's damage cap.
      4) The cap is ignored if an individual bullet deals 1000+ damage. This property ignores the above restriction on single bullet damage. This effect also means that with enough good passives, many guns can ignore DPS cap. Snipers and single shot weapons tend to be the easiest to get over 1K per bullet, but it is possible to get a full auto/ high fire-rate weapon to break this cap as well.

FYI: Players don't have to shoot every chest to check for mimics. Take the time to notice their movements. Mimics outside of boss rooms will "breathe" (lid slightly opens and closes, locked or not) and mimics in boss rooms will "blink" (two "eyes" will appear on the reward column, slightly below the item). Additionally, locked mimics do not require a key to open/activate. Defeat them to get their loot without using a key.
EDIT 1: The red "save" button appears at the top of the entrance to "The Oubliette" once players have previously entered it.

Whoa! This game is incredibly tough. I can give you two pieces of advice which helped me. 1) Keep unlocking stuff. Try a run, get hegemony credits, and keep buying new unlocks. Some of the later unlocks are really good and they will eventually overwhelm your earlier basic drops. 2) Practice and memorize the bosses. When you defeat a boss WITHOUT taking any damage, they drop a Master Round which gives you a free extra heart container (+2 to health). This means, acing a boss will make the game easier and easier for every one you beat like this. There should be some videos of best things to do to beat bosses without taking damage. Your dodge is amazing but you can't shoot or change direction in the middle of a roll which leaves you vulnerable. If you can walk around and avoid bullets without dodging, it can put you in a better position (this is where memorizing a bosses moves helps a lot). There are a few higher level things you can try as well (look into the secret Magnificence stat I recently learned about if you want an example of this). But the two tips above are pretty key. Does that help? Otherwise, ask a specific question and I can see if I can help out further.

A tip I always recommend is to roll into bullets, not away from them. Also never play pilot or convict when starting out. Convict has a bad item with a bad starting and additional gun, and pilot has “good” items that are incredibly situational with (in my opinion) the worst gun in the game. Marine and Hunter are both great though (my fav is hunter, her past is easiest, her guns are good, and dog is funny. She also has the best alt skin for hr model and gun) and when you unlock robot (carry the busted tv in the elevator shaft room on floor 2 to the forge lady) it gets a lot easier (robot is hard, he doesn’t have health, but his gun is rly good and he gets stronger with junk, which is very very good). Above all try to get rainbow runs quickly. The npc is in one of the floor 2 cages and chills in one of the breach rooms. Rainbow runs make the game much easier, and getting far is necessary for unlocking items, which make getting further easier. Gungeon is hard, very hard, it took me probably 30 hours to beat a past. Don’t get too demoralized from dying to wallmonger for the 4th time. The more you fail, the more you learn, and the better you’ll be.

After some time and practice, pilot is definitely the second best character (first gunslinger). Yes, his gun's trash, but his active AND passive items make up for such consistent runs that pretty much everytime I play with him, if making the right decisions, I get a decent to god run. Just wanted to point it out since yeah beginners should play with something easier in the early game, but not look away from pilot and others because they look "weak". That includes convict, yeah she's a bit odd to play, but also offers a very fast playstyle, early and midgame, since if you get some extra hearts you CAN afford to take some hits to deal that extra damage and go faster in the rooms.

A few things. Holstered weapons reload themselves after being holstered for twice their reload time. Saved hearts will also appear in the starting room if the floor has a shaft there. The Tinker actually explicitly tells you that he's in the elevator shaft if I remember correctly. The water barrel is (I'm pretty sure) guaranteed to spawn in the fireplace room. Shooting the demon face with water will actually give an A OR S tier item or gun

I was using weapon 1, holstering, using weapon 2, reloading, using it again, holstering, then switching to weapon one and normally the first weapon was reloaded. I assumed it was because I reloaded the second weapon but didn't realize it was just doing it (at half speed) over time. I hearted your comment so that more people can see it. Despite the small error, hope you appreciate my fast guides and reviews!

I would honestly say that my biggest tip would be to NOT abbuse your dodge roll, it will feel like you just avoided damage, but in most cases a small sidestep will put you into a better position.
The Dodge roll is more of a last resort move (second only to the blank effects). It completely fine if you are not encountering a lot of enemies, but especially in the later floors and oubliette and abbey there are some though rooms were it's important to know when to sidestep and when to dodge roll.
Also if you dodge roll you have to completely realign your aim, while in a sidestep you can keep firing and keep your dps up.
For some example enemies (you can easily sidestep every attack from bulletkin or shotgunshells, veteran versions take a bit time to get used to but are fine to, but enemies like the gun knights kinda force you to dodge roll, so then you have to decide which direction gives you the best position, same for the cubulons on close range, also all bosses work in patterns so it's a lot safer to dodge roll in these fights, since it's always the same pattern of bullets, therefore you have enough time to reposition between each attack)

    • @UncomfortableGameShorts
      @UncomfortableGameShorts  3 года назад +2

This is a really good tip that someone also mentioned in another comment. I naturally started side stepping attacks as I learned them (and their tells) but it would have been a good idea to explicitly state it in this video. Some other things not mentioned in the video:
    - In addition to the effects mentioned, curse has a few other features:
    > Different sources can inflict different amounts of curse - for example, the gun you get as a completion bonus gives you 5 levels of curse when you pick it up, though most cursed items and interactions only give 1 level.
    > When you reach a curse level of 10, it summons an entity known as the Lord of the Jammed, who has the following characteristics: The lord of the jammed has no hitbox. As such you cannot interact with it, but it does not do collision damage if you run through it. The lord of the jammed will chase you relentlessly, even during cutscenes and dialog, and will periodically spew projectiles in a circular pattern (though these projectiles are ironically not jammed).
    > There is a chance that you will encounter a special room with a fountain in it. If you pay to drink from the fountain, your curse will be removed (all of it). The cost will depend on how much curse you currently have.
    - In the Abbey of the True Gun, there is a special type of secret room that always spawns. In it, you will find an NPC and a blue chest. Simply talk to the NPC and choose either of the answers given (there is no wrong answer) and he will unlock the chest for you, giving you a free blue item. If your ammonomicon is missing something, try destroying the chest instead.
    - Furthermore, in the Abbey, the boss will always spawn a synergy chest upon defeat, so make sure to keep a key for that.
    - While gungeoning about, sometimes chests will leave a note from the resourceful rat, taunting you as he nicked the loot. At the end of each of these notes is a cheese wedge pointing in a cardinal direction. They are randomized per save file per account, but they are saved to your ammonomicon. *Use them* ... I won't go any further on that note.
    - There is an incredibly rare type of secret room that only occurs sometimes on the second floor. It contains a gun called the "High Dragunfire," and getting it replaces the regular Dragunfire with a powered-up version. If you're on the second floor (Gungeon Proper) and haven't found a secret room, keep looking, and you may get lucky.
    - Lastly, there is a gun in the ammonomicon that you cannot get from a chest. Instead, it requires a synergy of two guns. You will need the RUBE-ADYNE Prototype and Mk-II to get Rubenstein's Monster. You can sway this by doing rainbow runs and taking the elevator to the forge. When you take the elevator to skip a floor, the Resourceful Rat will (for some reason) offer you a free gun, and one of the ones he can offer at the Forge is the Prototype. If he doesn't offer it, go back, beat the *second* floor boss - this cycles the selection offered - and try again. Once he offers it, keep resetting until the rainbow chest also offers the Mk-II and you're good to go.
That's all I've got for now, but I've done everything the game has to offer except obtain the High Dragunfire, so feel free to ask questions.

There's also a hidden stat called "coolness" and kinda serves as an opposite to curse. Basically having it will increase the chances of finding loot (curse will decrease the chances still but they act simultaneously), and decrease actives cooldown mostly. The issue is that the items/weapons that give you that are not many and not common, but things like cigarettes, the skateboy gun, sunglasses and that kind of stuff. Would highly recommend everyone to check the wiki for the game as it contains so much "hidden" info

I learned this AFTER I posted my video (I try really hard to be accurate but this is one thing I accidentally discovered when I was playing but didn't test or research to verify). I thought the reload did this because I was using the hunter and switching between the pistol and crossbow. When I would use up the ammo of one, I would switch to the other weapon, use its ammo, then reload. I noticed that when I switched back to the other weapon it was reloaded too! I erroneously thought it was because I reloaded one weapon...didn't know about the auto 2x reload time :( I hearted your comment to help others find this information. One big tip is that any gun or item that makes you invisible or is the grappling hook can allow you to steal from any shop.
It increases your curse by one level but allows you to get any item for free (including the rat key)
The best use for this is to steal from the cursed item shopkeep, as buying from her increases curse by 2, so if you steal you are saving money and curse.
One thing to know if that you can only steal from a shopkeeper once, and after that there is a 50/50 chance you steal or they see you and close shop. (But if you see the same shopkeeper on a new floor, you can get a "free" steal again, though it doesn't work For the main shopkeeper bellow)

You also dont have to use the grappling hook to steal items. Using your active item or even a blank and then interacting with the item will steal it. It’s Ser junkan, not sir junkington. Also reloading one gun doesn’t reload the others, unequipped guns reload automatically after double its regular reload time. The save button also appears at the entrances to the oubliette, the abbey (assuming you’ve been to the oubliette and came out with the old crest), and resourceful rat’s lair WITHOUT needing to kill the boss of the floor. The ledge goblin is a girl. In addition to the shortcuts giving you 1-3 free guns upon use (quality and amount you keep depend on which floor you go to) unlocking all four shortcuts will also unlock boss rush, accessible from the same room in the breach as the shortcuts. And one last tip, after killing the high dragun at least once there’ll be an arm next to the blacksmith, investigate it to start a quest where you track down the arm and a balloon to carry it back up to the breach over the course of multiple runs, once complete you will unlock the most broken item in the game, clone.

I'll offer a few tips for tactics, since I never see them covered in any discussion of tips in Enter The Gungeon OR Bullet Hell games in general:
    1. Distance. The best distance to be at is far enough away that you can see them close to the edge of your camera. Usually this is outside your effective accuracy range. This is good. You can easily choose to walk a little closer to get a more accurate shot, whereas most creeps have long cooldowns on their attack patterns. Distance allows you more time to react to an enemy's attack, gives you more time to react to something you hadn't seen or didn't know was there, and, most importantly of all, it gives you more options to step into a safer position.
    2. Cover. Use cover. I don't mean tables, they're usually useless unless you have no other cover or, like, 4 or 5 table techs accumulated, but walls and doorways are absolutely fantastic cover. With some creeps, you can just hide behind cover while they throw their massive burst of bullets at you and then step out and unload a clip before they can wind up another attack.
    3. Learn Attack Patterns. Building off these first two, learn the movement patterns for certain enemies that allow you to reliably avoid damage every single time. For example, the big swordsman creep who swings his sword and a wave of bullets come at you? You can just run circles (literally) around this guy, and he will NEVER be able to hit you with the bullets. Not all enemies have reliable strategies like this, and they must be dealt with by the next tactic, but this works reliably on a surprisingly high percentage of enemies.
    4. Prioritize. If you've ever played an RPG before, especially turn-based, you'll know that killing the enemy with the lowest HP first is quickest, and it allows you more freedom to deal with the remaining enemy. In Gungeon, that's not always the best strategy. Rubber bullets (those things that jump at you and push you around) are surprisingly important to kill quickly, because even though they don't damage you, they almost ALWAYS push you into damage. Knowing who to kill first can give you far more options to dodge (if you kill the Iron Maiden enemy first, you don't have to dodge homing spikes AND whatever attacks other creeps are throwing at you, too, and it gives you more space to dodge into.)
    5. Expect enemies. This sounds obvious, but the amount of times I've been running down a direction that I can't see clearly and I've been hit by a basic ass bullet from some level 1 creep because I didn't expect it coming has lost me far too many games. If you're running in a certain direction to clear a room (looking for the last enemy) expect him to be hiding around the corner and to jump out and shoot you the second you get close enough.
    6. You can avoid damage from every explosion in the game (that doesn't hit you directly like a rocket) this includes grenades, dynamite, Gatling Gull, barrels, the whole shebang by letting the explosion hit you while you're in the middle of a dodge. You can literally dodge INTO an explosion and not be hurt if you're in the air when the explosion goes off. It's a homage to action films where jumping away from an explosion protects characters even though extras further away were killed.

I'm a new player and didn't know much of this stuff, next time i play i'll remember this, but i wanted to ask which character you think is the best(out of the first 4), i normally use the marine because of his accuracy, ammo capacity and the fact he starts with one armor

    • @UncomfortableGameShorts
      @UncomfortableGameShorts  3 года назад +2

I liked the Marine at the start as well (for all the reasons you mentioned). The pilot is very popular as well since he has 2 item slots and the lock pick can be useful when you run out of keys. I made another video which has even more beginner help (ruclips.net/video/01Miyhcn67g/видео.html). This game is deep and challenging. LOTS to unlock and learn. It will take time but I recommend you keep grinding and unlocking new things. Once I had an overwhelming number of better items to randomly appear in chests, I got farther and farther. Also memorizing the bosses moves and tells helped a ton. If you beat a boss without taking damage, you get an item (Master Round) which increases your health by 1 heart! This is HUGE and makes the rest of your run easier (and you can get new Master Rounds for each boss you ace like this). Hope you liked and subbed (it would really help out my tiny channel). Pro tip: the closer you are to death, the harder it is to die. Coming from a 100% player, the closer to death you are, the higher chance of the game giving you hearts. this is why the robot seems to get way more heart drops than anyone else, since it technically has 0 HP at all times. This also prevents the robot from being able to shoot blasphemy beams, making the weapon nearly useless for him.

    A few more infos:
-the higher your curse level is, more money is gonna drop
-you can cheat in the "bullseye" minigame if you have an item that allows you to fly
-on the 4th floor (hollows), if you find the creepy-frog looking guy in a hole (aka the sell-creep, the one who gives you money when you drop guns/items on him) and give him a master round, he's gonnna open the access to the R&G department floor
-if atfer the boss of the current floor you still have 1 or 2 blanks, use them in random rooms to try to find secret rooms
-on the second floor elevator shaft, if you return there after unlocking the shortcut there's gonna be a small tv that you can grab. Bring it all the way to the shop in the forge to unlock the Robot character!
-you can steal from the shop with some items allowing you to stop time, turning invisible, etc
-the coolness stat also correlates with the drop chance of consumables and chest (like the luck stat in TBOI)
-in the abbey of the true gun, there's always a secret room with a unique character giving you a free chest
-mimics can be a good thing since they save you a key
-sometimes you can see a demon-like door. It's actually a black market. The only way you can enter is if you have at least 1 curse point or 100 gold
-there's also a special level you can access from the third floor (mines) which leads you to the Ressourceful rat Lair. I'm not gonna spoil the surprise for that one but here's a little tip: you should let him steal some items from time to time :)

I can't go in much detail here but basically every gun of a certain class you have will decrease the chances of all other weapons from said class by 50% (90% for shitty which is huge considering the starting weapons of the 4 base characters are in that class). I'd recommend to check the etg wiki page for guns cuz it's tricky to take use of this mechanic, if you don't have the patience, just play normally but this can make a huge difference latter in the game with smth in mind.

Blank Bullets reveal secret rooms even when using infinite ammo gun and triggering the blank works for the whole room, even though it is short range.
Abbey of the True Gun has 2 secret rooms - first is normal, second has a funny guy; just talk to him, it doesn't matter how you answer him, he will give you an item or a gun.
Bullet Hell has a secret room with guaranteed Evil Muncher. Use it 10 times (throughout multiple runs) to get a new item, tho I don't recommend using it anymore unless you have 20 D rank guns to feed him :P (he gives you A/S item, tho the amount of the weapons he wants to eat is random, wiki says the record was 33 weapons)
When building the bullet to kill the past there is this one room with a HUGE pit - there is an invisible path. Use shells that appear after reloading your weapon towards the pit - if they land on the path it seems they are floating :P Also, you can just use Mega Douser or fly above it :P (falling resets the path i think)
Use the switiching weapon feature that slows time, it is pretty helpful.

@@UncomfortableGameShorts Let's see...I picked up the game in February of 2020, and my Switch profile says I've spent 165 hours playing it? Wow.
I mean, realistically speaking, some of that time includes time with the game paused while I had to deal with something else, but still.
In any case, I've killed most of the characters' pasts but I've only finished Bullet Hell once (and I had a *spectacularly* lucky run getting that far) so I've still got one Gungeoneer left to unlock...

    • @Jefepato
      @Jefepato 3 года назад +1

@@UncomfortableGameShorts Indeed it is. Unfortunately unlocking him requires you to not only beat the Lich but do it two runs in a row, which is going to take some doing.
It'll take a while, and some more practice, before I get good AND lucky enough twice in a row to pull that off. (But I'm going to keep trying, because he sounds awesome.)

Also it's not that reloading your held gun reloads others, but they naturally reload when you do not have them equipped -- you can see this by just holding your current gun with an empty gun that you just switched out. Even if you don't reload your current gun, if you switch back to that empty gun in a moment it'll be reloaded.
