I’m still rocking my preban Colt CAR15, and after all these years it’s still my favorite. Was a 16th birthday present from my dad back in the 80’s. Carry Handle Gang! 🤙🏽
I don't know if im more happy for you or jealous for me!🤣😭💯🤍
A2 build or a1 build
I got mine in the 98 99 form my dad as well when I turned 16 a Colt Hbar Match Target 2 16”. It’s completely neutered but idc he paid a lot of money for it and I love it because it was one of the last things he got me before passing away. But it shoots dead nuts accurate and runs like a champ
@@Johnny-jr2lq that’s awesome man! That’s a sweet rifle for sure! Never get rid of it. My dad passed in 2007, every time I shoot it, clean it, look at other, or just think about it, it reminds me of my dad. The only other firearm I have that I cherish more is his Winchester 1894 22M. First firearm I ever shot as a kid, target shooting in the backyard with my dad. Have a Merry Christmas.
@@EeZ3-808 yeah you get it brother merry Christmas to you as well!!!!
As a cop for almost a decade now, I can tell you Rock River is still alive and well. They have contracted with every department I’ve worked for and as far as I can tell from their website, still make all their retro stuff as well as modern stuff. I have been really impressed over the years with the amount of abuse Rock River guns can take. They just smile and chug along.
Yup, my department has six of their rifles purchased in 2013 time frame. The remaining rifles are either mutts or are Armalite (yeah, I know!) rifles from the late 00s. As the department rifle instructor, I'm trying to change this to 11.5" + suppressor, but waiting to fight that battle when it is time.
Indeed. I'm using a RRA 20" fixed stock , H-Bar, original usgi green nylon sling. Found the sling in one of those back woods gun shops that people never go to. Dated 1988 still in package. It does have a removable carry handle unfortunately. I'm using a Burris rt-6 optic. Always been a fan of just a plain Jane M-16A2 . Really all you need, just a basic AR-15 , then lots of ammo, and lots of training.
Absolutely love carry handles. My pops was in the usmc during desert storm and said his M16a2 never left his hands, even when taking a leak. He totally hated all the flat top ar’s I’ve had over the years, but I recently picked up the H&R M16a2 and 723 clones a couple months back. When I whipped those out on thanksgiving he nearly shat a brick. Carry handles for life.
🤣 I AGREE 100. Great name, btw sir or mam!😉🫡
....... "shat a brick." ....... 😂 ...... language is the best. Power to you, your Dad, and your carry-handles.
They're great retro rifles but as far as a Military rifle, I can see how superior the A4 truly was.
I remember buying my first civilian AR in 2006.....no body wanted carry handle ARs. Flattops were the rage. You couldn't get a flattop to save your life.
I hate braindead trends back when I played airsoft people thought I was nuts for getting the Car15
“W..where ya gonna put your holosun?? W..were da thermal go??”
I’m like dude your gun has a max range of 50feet and your bedtime is before dark why do you need it
@@off6848I still airsoft whenever I have absolutely nothing else to do. I only ever use a car15 or mp5 with irons. I wanna see how it feels to do cqb with Vietnam era guns
I was helping an old timer move a gun safe a few weeks ago. December 2023. He had an 18” HBAR A2 upper sitting in his work bench. I asked him if it was for sale, he said “hundred bucks I guess” so I pulled out my wallet and said “that’s mine now! Thanks Artie!” Got home and looked up the markings, it’s a Bushmaster upper receiver with a colt 18” HBAR. Someone replaced the bird cage with some 90’s compensator but I’m excited to shoot with it.
That's awesome
Rock River used to be all the rage. They had contracts with the DEA & FBI for their AR-15s, making them extremely popular. But then they got caught up in the Illinois gun ban scandal and their public image was tarnished.
First AR was a Bushmaster with fixed cary handle. Served me well for years and years. One of the regret selling guns.
Klay, you're very easy to listen to. Just so chill in a world where that doesn't happen so much any more. And your retro oddball fascinations are so much more interesting than just another race gun. Appreciate, cheers, Gus
I agree, keep up the good work. Most youtube gun guys have too much "comedic" / high energy - caffienated stuff going on for me. Add goofy antics, mystrerious veiled persona's, wanna be movie scenes, and yelling = skipping their videos about 1 minute in.
RRA still makes carry handle AR's but you have to configure it as an option for about $70 extra.
My first AR was a RRA. Its now a hot mess of random furniture and accessories because i had no taste back then. I also remember the RRA and Springfield armory Fiasco. People were so pissed you could find really nice condition RRAs on texas gun trader for 500 all day at the time.
And RRA is still a pariah today as a result. Dealers have long memories and us in the gun world love to hold grudges.
What did they do? I'm trying to remember, something about supporting a control bill that put their competitors in a bad spot but exempted RRA? I can't remember.
@@CLoak183 that's pretty much the gist of it.
something about a classic look and feel of an AR with a carry handle with a clamshell just hits for me
I never got the chance to get an AR with an integrated carry handle, instead I nabbed the only AR flat top I could get my hands on and started modding the heck out of it to get it as close to a CAR-15 as possible, including the triangular carbine handguard, proper grip and full length stock with a picatinny carry handle. Super fun gun to shoot and it looks dope! Got it just before the Washington state ban a couple years back and considered myself lucky.
Just watched Hop review a AK and then you review a AR …. The world is backwards today 😂
Bizarro youtube
His video had me terribly triggered 😅
@@KLAYCO47 😂😂😂
@@KLAYCO47 I don't know Hop so I'll say this with as much respect as I can ...... He is the clefted asshole type of AR dude who needs to never own a Kalashnikov.
when I was finished with the guard in 88, I bought a parts XM15e2 which is a AR15a1 with A2 furniture. the guts (Some of the guts were military), the upper receiver and furniture was colt, the Barrel was a FN (Belgium I think), the lower was eagle arms with a purple finish and all for 400. I could hit anything at any range, and I loved it. My mistake was giving it to my brother who end up years later selling it to pay for materials to do work on his house (Though I asked him to sell it to me, if he didn't want it). I didn't show it to him, but on the way back home I screamed and yelled and punched the dash of my car, I was so pisted.
I found a carry handle Rock River CAR-A2 in a shop about 3 years ago. I bought that thing immediately.
I have one and I love it. Fixed stock though. It's so handy, is why I love it. It's meant for the hands not for attachments. It's minimalist but that can be better. Mine's super light with a fluted barrel. Sometimes a handy gun is what best one for you.
I've got a Rock River A2 DCM upper on a 1/8 Kreiger SS 20" barrel . that I put on an old Bushmaster receiver with an old Milazzo Kreiger 2 stage. had a lead wedge for the rearstock. That was a sub MOA at 600 yd s with Sierra matchking 80gr. pills. I built it over 20 years ago, 1999 actually. Shot it at Camp Perry that summer.
I trained on an M16a1 in 1986 but went to machine gun school and never carried the A2, just pigs and SAWS. A2's being vintage makes me feel as old as I am. My son, got an M4 clone for his 14th birthday that he has an ACOG on. he's a mall ninja
My wife, his mother, was raised in the Woodlands, right next to Conroe
I built an Olympic match 20 inch with a rra upper and lower. magpul furniture. A2 sights.
One if the most fun guns to shoot.
Hands down the best Sunday content👌🏾 appreciate it!
My first AR was a Rock River LAR 15 with 16" lightweight barrel, mid length gas and fixed carry handle. M4 stock. I really miss that gun. Been thinking of cloning it. Now my main rifle is a PSA 16" heavy barrel, mid length gas, flat top upper scoped, and a rifle length stock. M4 style hand guard.
Man I just love the entire look of that rifle, upper and lower lined up perfectly, clean finish. The heavy barrel looks so good with the slim clamshells. Just a handy no nonsense carbine
Just finished my A2 clone build. PSA from what I was told at the Savannah store has acquired DPMS. I bought my stripped A2 DPMS upper receiver there. PSA also has US property marked A2 lowers now. That Rock River H-Bar in the video is sweet.
Cool for sure. I've got the exact same model CM148XXX LAR-15 bought new decades ago. It will never leave my cold, dead hands.
I used to have an R Gun upper with carry handle, the rifle was a production model during the Clinton assault weapons ban era. I wish I never sold it, should have just changed the barrel with a 20" FN or something. Now days the A2 carry handle uppers are a real bear to get a hold of, especially for a decent price. Either way, congrats on finding that rare gem!
I always liked the RRA hybrid upper with a built in rear sight and rail in front of it.
My first AR ever was Rock River. No issues, no problems, nothing. Not even a jam. Fantastic rifles.
Was that an AK-safety grab at 1:08??? 😂. I only have two ARs, one is a Daniel Defense and the other is a pre-ban Colt H-Bar with the sweet carry handle...gotta love the ole muskets!
Any of Rock River's guns and uppers with a front sight post have had the option to add the a2 carry handle upper (currently a 70 dollar upcharge) click the wrench and under receiver options click a2 upper.
What’s funny is I’m about to drop videos on my carry handle rifles too.
89' baby here too
and i just love the fixed carry handle look !!
Love it Klay!! Keep up the good work.
Just picked up an old Rock River marked 10.5 carry handle A2 upper. Love this thing.
I love retro ARs. They are simple and just work. I have the Colt Trifecta- M16A1 AR build 70s, Colt Government carbine, and Colt Diemaco 11.5.
I was able to snag serial number #41 of the very first batch of the PSAs H&R M16A1 in Grey. Sourced some original GI furniture, and it is jut an incredible gun. . .
You are a gentleman and scholar Klay, AKs and Carry Handle ARs are the best.
I’m more of the old A1 kind of guy. I built a replica of a XM177. I carried one for Uncle Sam back in the day. He spent a lot of money teaching how to use it. I just love that little dude.
I love a good standard AR, they're just super aesthetically pleasing. I've owned quite a few from budget to gucci, but always felt like the plain jane A1/A2 styles were the pinnacle.
I found an Armalite A2 miglength bull barrel police trade in from North Carolina State Troopers. Thing rocks. Found it for shy of $900. Great solid rifle in my collection.
Your channel kicks ass brosky
I have an just post ban RRA Tactical CAR with that heavy barrel ..it is a tack driver. came with the 2 stage NM Trigger. still one of my favs ...
PacWest 20 inch A1...and it's always been, and still is my favorite. 1980something vintage.
When I was a LEO back in like 2009-10, I was issued this exact rifle with OD Green furniture. Helluva rifle.
A2 irons are really nice. I can remember hitting 400 and 500 yd targets with them in Basic, even with fogged up sweaty eye protection.
My first AR-15, in 2000, was a Bushmaster XM15-E2S, with the A1 upper with the carry handle. Heavy M4 contour barrel. It had a butt stock that looked like the normal collapsible, but it wasn't. After the ban, I drilled it, dropped a spring in, and converted it into a collapsible. To this day, I have no idea how I figured that out. I used to be good at that stuff lol.
Anyway, I still have it, so it's cool to learn it's becoming valuable.
Like most I've had several AR's by now. But by far the mid-length AR15 I have now has been the best AR I've yet owned. It literally does everything I've asked it to from point blank out to 500 yards. Eats brass or steel cased ammo without complaint, shot 3 carbine courses with it one of which was conducted in rain and mud. I've had 3 GI magazines fail on me but the rifle has yet to bitch out on me!
Always a joy to see Klay running and gunning with Stoner's Holy AR-15 but then...it all comes back, Klay has been corrupted by the forces of Kalash chaos!!
carry handle retro goodness. excellent video.
Great video 👍 I like an old school vintage looking AR-15. I have a Windham Weaponry retro carry handle build .300 blackout. I only run .300 blackout AR-15 and 7.62x39 AK and other variants for mid range guns got out of 5.56 a few years ago.
I own this exact riffle except mine has the pencil barrel. Love it just to keep around. Irons are cool, it under 6lbs, mid length is fun to shoot.
My go to for years has been a carry handle, 10.3” Andro Crane barrel, Dead Air Sandman K, Steiner Otal-C IR laser. Surefire dual fuel scout pro adapted to original round handguards
Im glad you jst do merch...i want a leather chest rig so bad..
I'm actually in the process of building a mid length 16" A2 just ordered the barrel last night, I'm going to throw an A2 stock on as well
I parted my A2 clone together for around $620 back in 2020, still one of my favorite rifles.
My first AR, RRA 16" carbine with an H-Bar. some basic upgrades and it's still my workhorse.
Midlegth is the way to go. I have something similar in an A1 config. Rocks 🤙
I do miss ths m16a2e3 all 3 of them while I was a United States Navy Seabees. I haven't seena 20 inch heavy barrel . Inghe Seabees we don't have saw's ,so the lower is full auto with an aw upper.
Assembled an xm177e2, not much for the ar platform but it is fun
Have you ever tried a Black River Tactical (BRT) gas tube? If not I’d encourage you too for FSB type rifles like the one in this video; you can get the gassing perfect, without altering the rifle in any way besides the gas tube, and each one can be custom tuned to match your combo (ammo-type, barrel length, buffer weight, buffer spring, etc….) perfectly in the drop down lists you fill out at time of purchase.
Rock River is top tier. All of Mine came with two stage triggers, very smooth
I have shot many modern style ar 15s with all kinds of optics and crap on them but the retro ar with the carry handle, 20" barrel, a2 stock, all mill spec components is by far the best looking and most satisfying to shoot. It just works, it's accurate, reliable, simple and affordable.
A Rock River was my first AR, actually my first firearm ever. Really nice rifle, I rebuilt it into my MGS4 clone.
I've found slot for these and many remakes mid length but beautiful rifle and yes that's a semi auto bolt
Another reason to go midlength back in the day was for the bayonet lug to be in the correct position on a 16" barrel. Bayonets were a big deal for those of us who grew up during the Federal AWB, when the government considered the ability to affix a bayonet an evil feature. I'm not a fan of the Trijicon Reflex though.
I have a retro 20 inch Carrying handle 7.62x39 DPMS upper from the 90s that I love I have never have seen one like it ...
I was pretty much nothing but AK’s for a decade. No I’m into the older AR’s and I’m enjoying the journey. Gotta say a 20 inch with rifle length gas system is so much fun to shoot.
Carry handle vibes…. I run a bushmaster carry handle long boi 20”… super smooth and flat shooter
You’re a very talented young man, I really enjoy your videos! I would love to see cover all guns, pistols rifles and shotguns.
Thanks! Will do.
I'm like you brother. I love the old school A2 commando with carry handle. I'm getting a PSA 10 and a half inch pistol this weekend. Under 500 bucks. God bless you always brother and be safe 🙏
I pieced together a colt 727 style a2 upper for pretty cheap. Bought a fsp 16 inch carbine length upper from aero for $220 50% off on optics planet, got a Wilson combat bcg and some slim car15 hand guards $200, and bought a stripped a2 upper from thunder tactical for another $200 had to be assembled. Slapped that on a lower I had with a car15 stock and I filed the fsp post down 5thousandrhs and the zero is excellent. Runs like a sewing machine and honestly got to put it all together for a lot cheaper than most. Threw a wimping on a leupold mount and spray painted it kinda blood diamond and kinda bhd. Threw a light and some 100mph tape it’s my fave gun
Still rock my RRA Entry tactical
Lol picked up a old noduk spud A1 carry handle build for $550 at last gun show just on a PSA fjb lower but was cera coated odg so it matched , nice old gun chrome lined m4 profile barrel added B5 systems grip stock and put a quad rail on it nice old school look shoots great , also put a blitzkrieg spike tritium sight on front 😊 highly recommend this sight
That was the 2nd or 3rd time this year BTO got a batch of RRA A2 uppers. I got email notifications on them.
Carry, handles are sick
I have one of those rifles and they’re actually dope for the money. Especially the 2000s models
In my opinion, the AR with the carry handle, and the A front sight, is the coolest looking of all rifles.
I just did the same with my PSA “a2” midlength barreled upper with an A2 carry handle upper receiver my wife got me for Christmas.
My RRA LAR15 from the early 2000’s is still my goto today. I used it for my patrol and gang unit gun for years. I actually liked it better than my Colt and I sold my Colt!
Thank God carry handles are coming back
I love how you just seem to hit the jackpot every time with ARs that consistently run steel cased ammo without issues. It's such a roll of the dice when it comes to ARs and steel case. It has nothing to do with price tag or quality. Some just eat it, and others don't. The rifle Gods are smiling down on you it would seem 😂
There’s nothing sweeter than a carry handle on an AR to me. It just feels complete. Nothing wrong with the flat top gang, I’m a simple man, love handles and carry handles for life ❤❤❤😂😂
A while back when I was building my 629 replica White Oak told me that a lot of the suppliers that made carry handles were starting to make less because the high power competitions began allowing the use of optics since the military began using glass optics on the M-16s, etc. So the explanation was that the carry handles fell out of popularity for a while. I think that was enough to dissuade some of the brands from carrying them. (near pun intended)
That was sometime between 2017 and during COVID when I started trying to build my 602 replica. Those both had receiver sets from Nodak Spud, who are now absorbed into PSA. I have RRA rifles and parts too. I 1st bougth an LAR15 then after the AWB sunsetted I rebarrelled it and then made a match AR with the old barrel after some cosmetic work and assembly.

Carry handles are gangster AF. Looks better every year
First AR15 I ever shot was an Armalite M16A2 pattern. That thing shot like a laser beam and I’ve never had another one as good
I literally just picked up a rifle identical to this for 600, except it was a police trade-in. Mine doesn't have the 2 stage trigger though unfortunately. Awesome rifle.
I just purchased a RRA LAR-15 with Magpul furniture for $720 out the door. Feels like I got a great purchase.
i guess i got pretty lucky with my A2 upper i got for my 16 inch HBAR 727 carbine length piston gun build. shoots like a dream, was on a waiting list and even got a discount on it. it took awhile to get there but yeah it's definately a great upper. i'd say your A2 rifle is possibly a 2020 or later. my upper still has the older logo branding but it was from 2018-2019.
It took me no joke 2 years to find a carry handle sight for my flattop build. Are people hoarding them?!
Those carry handle AR’s are very sweet.
I have a 16 inch A2 carbine sitting on a WWSD lower. Also have same lower with A1 dissy
Over the summer I walked into my lgs and seen a colt AR-15 a2 govt carbine with restricted roll marks...had to do sum trading but it came home with me
My first AR was a RRA Operator 2. The trigger was great, but the gun was way too heavy for no reason. I ended up selling I’d for a Daniel Defense. I swapped the triggers before I sold the RRA though.
BTO is literally a couple miles away from me on 105. I might see you there one day though I often go to saddle river, especially if im shooting steel case.
I built an A2 from rock river in 2016 and it’s exactly like this. Same bolt and everything
Sick
@@KLAYCO47 has the old logo just checked
For an AK channel, you're doing a lot ARs... My favorite is still the updated Deawoo DR200... I just love the Woos.
Keep up the good work!
Dude...I just picked up a new Daewoo today!
@@KLAYCO47 That's just Awesome!!! I hope you do a vid on the Woo!!!
Since its hard to get parts for the Woos, about 15yo I switched to the Robinson Armament XCR-L both in 5.56mm and a 7.62X39 kits. AR like ergos, but long stroke piston like the AK. Three lug bolt like the AK too.
Have fun w/the Woo!!!
I have a Rockfield Armory from back in the day😊
UTE-2 stripped uppers are in stock, $240 assembled upper, $175 stripped.
I got rid if all my MLok and going back to carry handles ans A2. Keeping it simple
A Middy A2 used to be the shit! You had to go Armalite or RRA for them.
Man that looks good. I love to buy it or just a upper if they sold it. Although rock river is terrible with their gas port size. Unless you shoot nothing but steel case tula
My AR15M4 is a 1980s style DelTon 16 inch midlength HBar A3/A4 flat top upper with a cheap NC Star backup carry handle on it, all DelTon but the lower receiver that was a Anderson poverty pony stripped lower the DelTon was built on. Delton rifle kit and Anderson stripped lower build. $460 build. 1/9 twist 5.56/.223. M4 sling. M7 bayonet. Yes I still live in the 1980s. I would really like to put an A1 fixed butt stock on it down the road to replace the adjustable.
People like myself buy or build retro pieces for the same reason we buy alice backpacks. It's what we grew up with.😎 Get an a2 stock.
