Yes and no. The problem with Rashid was that we did not have the time to explore him, as most of his power is allocated in his level 2. It got stronger after we figured out tech, just like with Ed. Technically, he was not too impressive until the setups and stuff were found, but was probably top 5 in season 1 already at release, we just could not see it. And the slight nerfs/buffs while other top tiers got weakened made him overall not too much stronger, but he did get relatively stronger because of that.

Terry’s is hard to get use too. And he only has three approaches: MP, MK, and HP. I think Capcom knew if they kept his KOF quirks, no SF6 contender could survive. So we get this homage version of Terry, who is really cool, but predictable in approach. I think this time round Ken has the best design choices. He is gonna give the CotW contenders their money’s worth, mainly because Ken doesn’t need DI or DR to play good.
The duality and hypocrisy of some pros and casuals complaining (who acts like they're on the same level as pros) when a day one DLC character is weak, or op. But once we got one who isn't op and weak at the same time, the character sucks more. Its just like yesterday when they shit on Ed and Rashid, and look where we are right now.
From a design standpoint, Terry threads a really difficult needle. Any time you're introducing a character that cheats/breaks/sidesteps the basic mechanics of a game, you have to be very careful not to make him too strong. I'm very impressed how they managed to keep him relatively balanced. You definitely want to err on the side of underpowered when you're breaking the rules.
I think the overall character power in this game is pretty good. There's a few obvious exceptions, but you can seldom make a "bad" pick. Even characters who underperform at high level - like Jamie, Kimberly or E Honda - are still a menace in casual play. I don't think Terry will be immediately making Top 8 placements like Bison or Akuma because his offense is far trickier to understand, but all it takes is a pro to say "wow, that character is cool" to optimize it enough so that he becomes a real threat in brackets. Like it happened with Momochi and Ed. Or you and Aki tbh.
Hearing that Terry isn't broken was the same as I felt when I heard 2B also wasn't busted in GBVSR. Thank God. I don't like having to pay the crossover character tax. I really did not wanna get my dues for the war crimes T7 Akuma was doing. So it's good to hear that we aren't in the "they're a crossover character they have to be busted beyond belief" thing.
People have to be on crack thinking Terry isnt good. He has so many tools, a quick overhead, very high damage, and its like his HK was perfectly designed to whiff punish
He's a 4 button character in a 6 button game. Good move by Capcom making his additional attacks NOT op. But they still seem pretty effective for what they're intended to be used for.
i HATE that people get mad when a DLC character isnt broken these people are the reason that so many games are ruined by over tuned DLC. devs know there are people who will cry and more importantly not buy it if the DLC isnt crazy
I play Terry for the same reason I've been playing Manon, it was never about them being good; they just did something that was fun and that was all I needed.
Literally i said the same thing the moment went out. Is hell fun to play with him, is even my favorite character. Sadly need a lot of investment on their combos to do the same damage that others do with less amount of investment ( combos, normals, etc ). Nice vid btw.
Terry is a fucking neutral menace IMO. His MK, both standing and crouching, are insane. I think he'll see some success on a pro scene. But even from a scrub perspective he seems broken, you literally can't approach him, and his effective range is much bigger than other shotos.
I will say this nicely, the average SF player don't give a fuck, the semi pro or pro only rep like 5% of the 4 million sold, the average hard working SF fan is having fun.
It's so weird when people are disappointed someone is really great and fun and well balanced cos we are so desperate for 1 or 2 characters to be far far better than everyone else. I genuinely believe people complain about the balance, which is what the complaints are, is that there is no obvious choice as top and no excuse for sucking of you pick lower tiers. It's all your fault now.
dhalsiim usually does decent or good vs shoto, but it seems he will struggle vs terry. can't slide under fireball, and his float gets hit by his blue hand charge (despite it looking like it is well beneath him, same as bison charge) Basically, sim is at the mercy of having to play purely reactive, which is usually a death sentence in this game (especially with that nasty burnout blockstring and sim having no reversal) Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if terry covers different match ups than the other shotos and will remain strong in that regard even if he turns out to be mid (his dmg and tools are top tier imo)
I don't know if he's strong or weak. What I know is that he's the first character in the roster that has made intuitive sense to me. And I'm not sure why that is. I have played him since Fatal Fury but he's not really that similar to past versions without the movement options.
I think he's fun. Fun to play and fun to watch people better than me do cool stuff with him. That's enough for me. Wish all sf6 characters had the technical ceiling of Terry, tournaments would be much more fun to watch
I wanted Terry to be upper mid tier, so I'm glad to hear that's where you feel he is at. A lot of people think they're gonna win a million dollars online if they pick top tier so at least with Terry, I probably won't have to go through 70% mirror matches after the new character hype dust has settled.
As someone who’s been playing Ryu since day one, he feels pretty similar in what he’s trying to do. Of course the neutral more involved since he doesn’t have the gorilla button, but the feelings he’s giving me are comparable.
I thought he'd be more intuitive so I was a bit disappointed. Though it may also just be that I fucking suck at the video game right now so I was gonna fail anyway regardless of whether or not he was intuitive.

He could be top tier but he is fun and interesting, he plays a very heavy footsie game and while his pressure game is not ridiculous, it doesn’t need to be with how he can cover and play more ranges. Let’s see how he develops and one sure thing is that he is fun
As long as a character is fun to play and not unviable (which practically doesn't happen anymore in any game released in the past decade or so) idgaf if he's top 5 or top 20.
I said the same thing to my girlfriend the night of his release "he has all the things you need to be good in this game, just not the best version of them", I think that perfectly describes Terry rn

2 things to add: Punish counter crmp can link into H Power Charge and his smp shp tc is freaking broken.
But they still seem pretty effective for what they're intended to be used for.
i HATE that people get mad when a DLC character isnt broken
these people are the reason that so many games are ruined by over tuned DLC. devs know there are people who will cry and more importantly not buy it if the DLC isnt crazy
it just wouldn't be Terry if his far C (or far Fierce, in this case) was a button you should use
It's all your fault now.
dhalsiim usually does decent or good vs shoto, but it seems he will struggle vs terry. can't slide under fireball, and his float gets hit by his blue hand charge (despite it looking like it is well beneath him, same as bison charge) Basically, sim is at the mercy of having to play purely reactive, which is usually a death sentence in this game (especially with that nasty burnout blockstring and sim having no reversal)
Basically, I wouldn't be surprised if terry covers different match ups than the other shotos and will remain strong in that regard even if he turns out to be mid (his dmg and tools are top tier imo)
I like him. Personally, I have a sneaky suspicion people will be calling him top tier in the coming months. He just...feels top tier.
Eh he’s alright, I’m not a KOF fan so investing time into him isn’t really my thing. I’ll play AKI till Makoto comes, if she ever comes. 😂
Terry has higher output for lower effort, than Ken and Akuma. Even with some normals of his sucking, the good ones are REALLY good.
I thought he'd be more intuitive so I was a bit disappointed. Though it may also just be that I fucking suck at the video game right now so I was gonna fail anyway regardless of whether or not he was intuitive.
I’ll formulate my opinion when Sajam does, so I don’t have to use the play time and hours to decide my opinion I need HELP!!!!
My character rating is purely based on fan factor and I would say he is a good character 😊
I like how no ones really complaining about Terrys relative power but all i see is people complaining about people complaining about Terrys relative power.
Im glad he doesnt play like the shotos and he's not busted from the start. I would much prefer this over Bison and Akuma balance as a normal player
0:23 holy the lv2 damage
0:55 100%
3:25 lol yeah he’s not as braindead on the surface as say akuma n stuff
4:15 interesting
5:19 true crackshoot does stuff on that being a kinda fast -3 special that leaves you close
9:01 i hear that from a bunch, not all that satisfying to me but still cool
He got cool stuff yea
He could be top tier but he is fun and interesting, he plays a very heavy footsie game and while his pressure game is not ridiculous, it doesn’t need to be with how he can cover and play more ranges. Let’s see how he develops and one sure thing is that he is fun
As long as a character is fun to play and not unviable (which practically doesn't happen anymore in any game released in the past decade or so) idgaf if he's top 5 or top 20.
Terry being upper a tier is optimal. Exactly where i want every character. Need the s tier a little, buff Honda Manon lilly
Terry is fine and average
He’s way above average
That's exactly what I saying to me while playing Terry, but much more clarifying in your breakdown.
he may not be strong against the top tiers, but damn hes the most fun character in a while
I will be curious to see if people find micro-walk setups so that you can do two drive rush cancels into Level 2+
Pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I do think its strange they made the easiest ever snk character more difficult than most of the cast lol.
I still find it really cool that there's a genuine choice to make between full power level 2 and 3 (including if you want to do classic input)
Characters like Akuma are strong from day one literally, simply because they are easy to understand.
I said the same thing to my girlfriend the night of his release "he has all the things you need to be good in this game, just not the best version of them", I think that perfectly describes Terry rn
thanks for this vid broski, I finally have a unique opinion on Terrence Bogards viability
I love this topic. People complaining he isn't pay to win. Then ppl complain when they aren't.
It's crazy.
Even if he's shit shit garbage he's still Terry fuckin Bogard and imma main him till the servers shut down for the last time
He is always bloody plus, or not negative enough to punish much, full screen special with no punish is daft imo
Terry is the most mid character ever, he’s so fucking fun but I feel like he’s the middle of any tierlist.
He has MASSIVE elbows, though. Even though he's been skipping leg day.
I feel people always are like “this really strong character isn’t that strong” on release. Then months later they are the among the most used characters in tournaments
The only problem i have with terry is his face design. It really looks like they chose someone who hates terry to design his face 😭
