So beautiful!!! Thank you!!! I’m partial to her soprano voice. I would love to have an album of all classical ❣️ O’ mio babbino caro is one my all time favorite songs!!! There are so many…
I know there are many talented sopranos out there, and I do like a few like Barbara Padilla and Amira Willighagen... but there's something (or maybe a few things) about Sissel's voice that is just captivating for me.
What an entertainer! Her voice coupled with her expressions draws you into the song. My favorite in this group is O Mio Babbino Caro. Great video by the way Dashcam Blogger.
No doubt about it... she truly is so talented. I know there are a lot of other gifted singers, but I really do believe she is the Greatest of All Time. Did you see my video where I state my case on why I believe she is the G.O.A.T. If you haven't seen it, it's called Sissel - The GOAT.
My favorite of the lot is "The Old Castle" . Mostly because I can understand the Lyrics and the performance is captivating. The Melodies and delivery of the rest Allow me to enjoy them, but to a lesser degree.
What fun! Here's my Siss classical top 5... 5) Varen (The Last Spring /Grieg. 4). From high opera ... Dido's Lament (Dido & Aeneas /Purcell) 3) Ave Maria (Schubert) 2) Maria Wiegenlied (Virgin's Slumber Song /Reger). And to top it all...No 1 Solveig's Song (Peer Gynt / Grieg) a number of captures on YT but her performance when 21 was special... she was for 6 minutes the plaintive Solveig. And her contrastive Japan performance a few years later was in true operatic style. Yet, I haven't included her Panis Angelicus (Franck) or her Ave Verum (Mozart). I haven't tracked down a full performance of her Mon Coeur S'ouvre a Toi Voix (Samson & Delilah / Saens Sans).. there's only a snippet on YT. Keeping to 5 leaves out these goodies.
Oh yeah, your top 5 are excellent. I did consider several of those you mentioned (it was hard not including Solveig's Song). It just goes to show how great of a classical singer she really is. There's no way to do only Top 5 because too many get left off, BUT I knew if I made it longer (like the Top 10) people may not watch it all the way through and I wanted to show some "non traditional" pieces (i.e. Summertime and The Old Castle). My number one choice, O Mio Babbino Caro when she sang it in 2001, will always be my favorite because it's the first song I ever heard her sing and I fell in love with her voice right there and then. Amazing since I was never really much of a "soprano" fan. I'm thinking of tackling "Gospel/spiritual" songs next. Do you have any suggestions? I'm considering: Goin' Home, Slow Down, My Tribute, I'm Ready to Go Home, What a Wonderful World, and If I Can Help Somebody. If you have time, I'd appreciate your input. Maybe I'll start including honorable mentions (without showing video) so I can include more great music.
I am glad that you added Summertime- I do love that song. I can hear it anytime. They were beautifully sung. I think I prefered Lascia Ch'io Piango best.
Anything classical that she sings is a joy for me to listen to... but I'll never enjoy anything she sings more than O Mio Babbino Caro (maybe because it's the first song I ever heard her sing and made me fall in love with her voice on the spot).
DB, you are right on the money! But it could have been the top 50!!! I only discovered her several years ago and I believe I’ve experienced the GOAT! 😍
More like the top 100! I first heard her sing last October. It didn't take me long to be convinced she is the greatest singer of all time. Did you see my video Sissel the GOAT?
I liked your picks, although "Solveig's Song" might have been there. I discovered Sissel about two months ago and have since listened to little else. That particular performance of "O Mio Babbino Caro" is the best of her performances of that gorgeous aria, but that's like comparing perfect to more perfect. I also listened to performances of this aria by other renowned opera stars, Kire Te Kanawa was my favorite but it doesn't touch this one by Sissel. Two nits to pick, for some reason whoever posted the original clip cut off the orchestral intro. Also, the Gershwin piece is written by George and Ira Gershwin, not just George. As a professional singer and songwriter I like to see lyricists get credited. For your pop picks I love the whole "All Good Things" album and video, partly because it's mainly in English, but mostly for great songs and incredible performances. Her "O Mi Babbio" on that show is terrific too, but you made the right choice. Let me recommend "Carrier of the Secret". Really well written song and her performance is breath taking. The modulation alone is worth the price of admission. That said, I do think Ms. Kyrkjebø is the best singer I've ever heard. And drop dead gorgeous in the bargain. Keep up the good work.
It was hard not including Solveig's Song. It just goes to show how great of a classical singer she really is. I usually cut off intros in order to keep the videos shorter. I know that Ira wrote the lyrics and it was just oversight on my part not to credit him. Hopefully, I won't do that again (I am also a musician and song writer). I've decided at the end of each video I'm going to do an Honorable Mention and put links to the videos in the description section so people can more easily find the songs I didn't get to show. O Mio Babbino Caro, when she sang it in 2001, will always be my favorite because it's the first song I ever heard her sing and I fell in love with her voice right then and there. Amazing since I was never really much of a "soprano" fan. Have you seen my "Sissel - the GOAT" video? (And yes, I once again forget to credit the lyricists.) I spent almost 400 hours putting it together... truly a labor of love.
Glad Rob somebody has noticed how good her singing of Carrier of a Secret is. She becomes a physical work of art at the very end of it and just for a few moments.
I believe that all the great sopranos that ever sang Sissel and for many reasons she is the greatest of them all ❤
I agree and I state my case in this video: ruclips.net/video/CXRdLGgvzJU/видео.html
ANYTHING SHE SINGS , SHE DOES IT TOP NOTCH.
Well said! 🇵🇹🕊️
Sissel....always pleasing to listen to. A top worldclass crossover soprano.
Sissel is perfect!

The rendition in this video is the BEST she ever did, or at least from the ones I've seen.
She is tops! Love them all. She truly is in a league of her own.

She's one of a kind.
As you probably already know, I think she's the greatest singer of all time.
My pick from your selection is Sissel singing "Pie Jesu" which she does with such sincerity and ease.
It is such a beautiful song and Sissel sings it so wonderfully.
Voice of angels!
Another sample of her range is one of my favorites: Koppången!
Not classical but quite impressive!
On Holy Wings does the same, from her Faroe Islands concert, when Siss was 21. On YT.
My favorite of the lot is "The Old Castle" . Mostly because I can understand the Lyrics and the performance is captivating. The Melodies and delivery of the rest Allow me to enjoy them, but to a lesser degree.
I really like The Old Castle too. I wish the original video was better quality.

Her voice is crystal clear just beautiful young voice! O mio babbino caro sounds like a young girl as it is supposed to be.
I've heard many sopranos sing this excellently, but I've never heard anyone do it better than Sissel.
@@dashcam-blogger I agree.

I'd like to know any song misinterpreted by Sissel. 🇵🇹🕊️
Sancta Maria should be included in my humble opinion.
I should have made the video the top 20 songs... but it would have been too long for most people to watch. I also wish I had included Solveig's Song.
