- In shocking form heading into the 2010-11 Ashes series, selectors kept faith with Mike Hussey for the first Test. It nearly all went wrong first ball, but turned into an epic innings

With a career average of 51.52, and a late start to his test career, Mike Hussey truly deserves the nickname of “Mr. Cricket”.
It takes dedication and a love for the sport to keep your dream alive for that long.
He was criminally underrated, I mean people who haven't achieved half of what he did are treated as heroes. This guy just did his job and went away calmly, he didn't really attract much attention off the field or even on it with his demeanor which makes me a little sad because I feel people don't really talk about Hussey enough.
even a batsmen of mike hussey's calibre had to worry about selection in team....then there are those who take eveything for granted!!
Vijay Shankar can get selected for a world cup...mskkkkkk prasadaaaa
Like risabh pant and kl Rahul.
@@lifesgood4859 " he is the best captian I have ever played with" - Sachin Tendulkar
@@TheMonarch-hf8jf His days of prime are long gone. He should be kicked out of the team for his magnificent strike rate of 60. He is still playing 90s cricket. This is modern day cricket where even tailenders are expected to play more than 100 strike rate and him being a finisher plays at 60-70 is unacceptable. I think he has given kohli and shastri freedom to bang his wife hence he is in the team even after 3 years of consistent pathetic performances
Hussani are you mental Steve smiths strike rate is about 60 to 70 just like all good caliber players of today if anything he would have a better strike rate in today’s game shorter boundaries worse bowlers and better training you really must compare who he had faced compared to today’s superstars in test cricket that score at the same rate as him 😂🤣
The guy played state cricket during the golden years Australian dominance. He never lost his hunger even through years of unselection. Gotta love every run he scored after that point for his country.
An underrated legend & all time favorite. Gentleman. Mr. Cricket. Mike Hussey. Love from Bangladesh.
Man could sleep walk into any team in the world and still went through this. Tells you how great this Australian team was.
One of the most consistent batsman in the world I have seen.
Even Warner is feeling the same way. He said I'm not out of form just out of runs
Warner is no good overseas. Ultimate flat-track bully
@@criddlegakes2650 After the Ashes where he was horribly worked out I thought it was pretty much the end of his test career. He should be thanking Pakistans mediocre bowling and fielding for giving him another year in test cricket. They help so many players and teams. Recently they've helped NZ reach Number 1 in tests 😂
@@smartsquirrel1 haha yeah I agree. I really wasn't impressed by his 335, the same way I wasn't impressed with his first double century at the MCG that year where they were essentially playing on a road
@@smartsquirrel1 Yeh its diabolical how Pak's best asset has become so weak. I don't think i remember seeing a Pak team that DIDNT have good bowlers until now. You always felt yeh sure they might get rolled for 200 all out but getting those 200 would be hard work and they always had a chance.
Especially their spin department. Yasir Shah hasnt been playing well, Shadab needs to become a test bowler he should seek guidance of Shane Warne as Warney loves any player who comes to him haha. The weird retirement of Mohammed Amir made no sense to me either, the guy was still the premier Pak bowler even when he retired. Yeh he screwed up as an impressionable 18 year old kid but he was still on track to be one of the best for Pak.
Going on from this South Africa seem to be on the same boat. A shadow of the bowling attack of past and even their batting is weak compared to years gone past. Its all cyclical though and both those two teams will probably unearth some unknown talents soon enough.
@@criddlegakes2650 so he’s the Australian Jimmy Anderson but for batting
When on song, Hussey was simply magnificent!!!
I still remember he used to average 70+ in both ODIs and Test cricket even after 3 years from his debut
What a champ! Mr. Cricket you beauty ❤️
that Ashes was a disaster in itself but with many fond memories like these...
The 18 dislikes are the English 17 man squad and their coach.

He got out for 195, oh damn!! a little more would have been magnificent.
195 is pretty damn magnificent
Thong Slapper yeah but he was inches away from a double century.
@@aniprosauraus8950 one could say millimetres
Wow
He was struggling to get 50 at that point....not sure he was overly concerned about those 5 runs, 195 would have felt like a gift from the gods
I dont remember this at all. I just remember watching Mike Hussey first get into the team and i was watching with my dad and my dad saying "He never gets out"
The smile on his face when he was batting is so pure
I really miss Michael Hussey playing for the Aussies. Those days were sooo good
Mike Hussey is a great batsman, he has seriousness in the game, this player is capable of playing and scoring in any format, Mike hussey sticks to the crease like fevicol, his wicket was proved to be a big challenge for the bowler. , Mike is a legend!
One of my all time favourite batsman,he was a great fielder too
Bring back Michael Hussey, he was my fav player, I cried when he retired
Wow what a great video ...thank you cricket Australia and Mr cricket for inspiring stuff
"prove them wrong"!! This is what he showed ❤️
Seriouly its goosebumps. I've watched it 5 to 6 times.

Best middle over batsmen, I have ever seen.
One of the best...Mr. Cricket!
Mike's a true true legend of the game.... Players like Him, Sachin, Ms, and ABD, they have revolutionized the cricket world like no other... He is such an inspiration... Respect
The best. Finest personalities in Australian Cricket Team, which is very rare. Mr. Cricket.
One of Australia’s greatest cricketers. And He went with his craft with no fuss. Loved watching him play
Huss was dependable in all conditions, never thought he would ever be in danger of getting dropped. His technique was great, could slog or grind. He would walk into any aussie greatest XI . Mr Cricket a fitting name
Mr. Cricket for a reason ❤❤ Cricket is missing you mike hussey 😥😥
At the risk of sounding like a T20 generation fan (I'm not), I'll always remember Hussey in the CSK jersey that fit him perfectly. What a gentleman and ambassador of the sport. Mr. Cricket indeed.
He is very hard working
Nice man. Who wishes Mr Cricket was still playing the big bash at least?
I just want him back any way
What a player he was totally a gem
What incredible asset he was for a Australian team.
Look at that celebration....it really shows how much that knock meant to him.. .he was desperate for some runs ..good on him.
3:06 goosebumps
I loved his pull and hook shot---the best
Michael Hussey big man big player. He had ability to perform out of no where and when he was on song he shattered opposition’s hearts just like in Pak vs Aus wt20 SF in 2010. Pakistan almost won that match but he spoiled the show in the last over of Saeed Ajmal. I still remember that match. I was 9 yrs old. I literally cried on Pakistan’s loss and cursed this man whenever he came to bat after that match especially I was furious when he came to bat against England in that wt20 final. But now I have a huge respect for him.
That's why he is mr. Cricket
And my fav. Batsman of all time
Mr. Cricket. One of the all time greats
Mr. Cricket.
Imagine if Australia had the luxury of considering dropping a batsman of Mike Hussey's calibre now. Sorely lacking someone of that ability in the absence of Smith and Warner
maybe don't bring up disgraceful cheating gronks like Smith or Warner in the same sentence as a gentleman like Mr Cricket ;)

My favorite batsman of all time
When ever it comes to selflessness I remember Dhoni,Dravid, hussey,Watson and now it's kl rahul they came done it what the team wanted at any position and any situation
Watson????
@@clintoneddy2860 Why didn't watson played everywhere from 1 to 8 never cmplained about the uncertainity of the position he bats
@@gggh663 the reason for that was the fact that in his era we had better options opening the innings and he was never going to dislodge no.3/no.4/no.5 (Ponting, Clarke Hussey) but the selectors wanted to keep him in the side due to his 135-140km/h swing bowling. He probably wasn't good enough as a top order specialist batsman, or should I say had to many GLARING weaknesses that teams figured out pretty fast, but being a quality bowler helped him. I actually believe he never reached his potential due to his mental fragility. I found him to be a bit of a front runner, very rarely set the tone when Aussies were in trouble, always failed in "pressure" situations. Made runs when Aussies were 3 for 300, or 2 for 180 but never stood up when it was 4 for 50 or 5 for 80 where it was imperative he knuckle down. Anyway thanks for ur comments it's good to exchange texts with a person that's not being negative or insulting 👍🏏
@@clintoneddy2860 Either now or nor in past aus have relied on their top order.watson has done well in top 3 it wasn't due to he wasn't good enough but there were player who couldn't be dragged down he averages 45 odd when he comes in top 3
Dhoni Selflessness??😂😂 Played Many Useless odi innings just to maintain 50+ Average Rest players OK
A real competitor. Still my favorite cricketor.
Class is permanent
Best of the bests
Mr. Cricket for a reason. Legend Mike. One of my favorite batsman of all time. He debuted international cricket at his age of nearly 30 n i love the way he play n his controls about the game and his calibre of seriousness tht always tried to win a match. Great Mike miss u on the field. Nway enjoy your life off the field. 🤘🌹
Personally I still can't believe people where talking about dropping him at the time.
He didn't look out of form at all, was just having one of those patches even the great batsmen go through where regardless of what they try (change of technique, more aggressive approach, more defensive approach, taking a shot out of the toolbox for a while) they can't seem to buy a run - get run out, anything hit in the air or nicked goes to hand, fluke chop ons, lots of 50/50 LBW shouts going against him.
Such a dedicated cricketer.
Hussey is ❤. A true champion 🙏🙏🙏
Mr. Cricket. Great guy, best regards from a Pom.
Gentlemen of cricket..
Yes you are Mr cricket miss you much much man love from Pakistan. .....

Hussey probably had the best work ethic amongst all in his generation
Love from India ❤
Inspiring video
Only hussey and haddin played well for Australia that series. The English thrashed the Aussies. It was cook's ashes
3 to 1 is not a thrashing in a 5 test series. And overall Australia has won more Ashes Tests than England, winning 134 of the 330 matches, compared to England's 106 victories.
Shane Jackson that’s 100% correct
@@BatMan-oe2gh He didnt in any way imply that england was better than australia. He just said that england were better in this series which they were by a long shot
What about those 5-0 white wash in 2014?

What a cricketer he was truely mister cricket. I used to hate lot of Aussies when they're playing against India because they were bloddy good but as soon as they retired I really admired how competitive and great those guys were..

Players like Klusener Bevan Hussey Chris Cairns Dhoni in team surely a pleasure to have as a finisher.

This is very good example of how good cricket australia is. Even a very good player like mike isnt sure of his place in the team. That sort of pushes you to perform better. This sort of structure should come to india.
