Completely earned it tbh - he wasn't out there to make runs, he was out there to stick around and support Mike Hussey. And he did a perfect job of that, which is incredible work from a genuine #11.
Him not getting out as a tail ender batsman just rotating strike helped Hussey get his ton, because if McGrath got out... he wouldn't have been able to...
Well certainly Mcgrath's job here, as no. 11 was simply to stay there and not lose his wicket, allowing the other bone fide batsman to make the most of his own innings. Much the same as Jack Leech was highly complimented for his role while Ben Stokes played a heroic, or heartbreaking innings (depending on who you are) against Australia to pull off an extremely unlikely, miraculous victory.
I still remember this day. I was 18 and helping my parents unload furniture from their storage cage in Artarmon in Sydney. Dad and I turned the radio off when McGrath came in thinking it'd be all over soon. An hour later we got back in the ute and Australia was still going. What a memory. I hope RUclips never dies so I can watch this clip in 40 years and still remember this day
Oh man.. How amazing this game was back in the days.. As an indian i really miss this Aussie team which always found a way out of any situation.. Would've loved to watch this team play the current Indian team with Dhoni as captain!
@@amritsrivastava2114 the current team is a contender the old Australian team was the undisputed best team in the world. Doubt we will see another dominant cricket team as the great Australian team of the 90s and 2000s. So many test victories and 3 world cups in a row will never be repeated.
I loved this squad in that era. and loved the way they're performing in the match, using their sportive and strategical skills. And i believe, this past squad is several times better than the recent squad.
Memories of the SCG Australia v Pakistan where Siddle helped Hussey to another 100. Quite obvious at the time the Pakistanis also helped with dodgy field placing, bowler rotations and dropped catches. An obvious match fix, one that the commentators failed to see even though it was happening right in front of them.
All the gaze is on Hussey... but without McGrath holding his end up this would never have happened. Well done Ohh Ahhh for sticking in there to let Hussey do his thing.
I love how Pigeon scored 11 and he's walking off the ground behind Huss with his bat raised. Vintage McGrath that!
That is the beauty of cricket. yes, Hussey played amazingly but he needed someone at the other end. Gotta love test cricket

4 more than his average tbf
Cricket Australia: "McGrath helps Hussey to unlikely ton"
Also Cricket Australia: *Not one highlight of McGrath in the vid*
That's cause he scored only 11 in the 107 partnership, likely no boundaries.
@@justinchristy9047 Ya and that's a big thing. Supported Mr. Cricket throughout. 👍

Exactly! we hardly see anything from McGrath. Title is misleading to some extent.

Commentary is making this 100 times better !!! Those were the golden days Richie Benaud, Tony Greig and Bill Lawry !!
Why do People always leave chappelli out....
Yes
Seriously yes man !
Tony Greig is the best commentator in the cricket world, I always loved his commentary
No one likes Chapelli
The kind of commentary we miss nowadays❤️
Now we are destroying our ears due to akash chopra, sanjay Manjrekar etc
Rudrank Patel 😭
Micheal Holding
Ian bishop,Ian Smith, Harsha Bhogle ar good commentators
Rudrank Patel the stupid one sided commentary
I remember this knock. Didn't miss a single Test Australia played between 2003 and 2009.
That was the golden era
K K did u like Ricky Ponting batting ? He’s the reason I love cricket !
What made you stop afterwards?
Huss is a gem! This match of his, time with CSK & a T20 match vs Pak where he showed his class. Awesome
2 things....what a player Hussey was ! And an indicator of the respect held for the man is the emotion evoked by a voice ! RIP RITCHIE BENAUD !
Thank you McGrath for co-operating with Hussey and we have seen another century from Hussey well played
Mcgrath and Hussey were the duo that made this test match the best ever

Commentary... A like for them.. The emotion of all balls bowled..
I liked the fact that McGrath also raised his bat when they coming to the pavilion
❤
❤❤🥺
Hussey scored absolutely quickly in this match...
The first thing to like about this video is the commentary of LATE TONY GREG. It gave an altogether different taste to things .
90s and 2000s Era australia team are very strong. Playing 11 are very strong and all bowler are match winners in both bowling or bating.

What Was Those Days Of Australian 🇦🇺 Cricket 🏏 Team When Ponting, Gilchrist,Hussey,Hayden,McGrath,Lee,Langer,Watson These Legends Are All Time Best
No Ian Chappell, Greg Chappell, Doug Walters, Rodney Marsh , Max Walker, Jeff Thomson, Dennis Lillee, Ian Redpath
Missing both the legends and the commentators 🥺🥺🥺
Mike Hussey was as teamsman as you could get. Always team first
Duminy repeats this with steyn , history repeats itself !!

This guy was my favourite batsman when I was following cricket, shame that he debuted late in his career.
7:53 minuutes of silence for who want to know how McGrath helps Hussy.
For staying not out. A big ask of McGrath
6:05 WHAT A CATCH BY THAT KID!!!!
How good is mark Nicholas commentary, playing cricket 07 with his commentary was a joy
Diamond days of Australian cricket
Hearing richies beautiful commentary is the best
I wish BCCI would have these hd quality of videos of india's matches ...... Cricket Australia is doing great job...
I have an answer which concerns it superficially - It is our disregard for history, record keeping and documents.
True. High time BCCI does this.
Love to see Mcgrath making runs
What a player Hussey was. Makes you wonder how he didn’t get into the Australia side earlier
He came late, but he is called Mr. Cricket.
Micheal Beven was there ...
@@Peace50552 Not in the test team. Hussey scored 19 centuries after making his debut in tests at age 30, that´s insane!
He was not a good player in early 20s, sometimes he used to sit out in his domestic team too, he gradually learned and now we all call him Mr Cricket
Damien Martyn
Tony Grieg was such a great commentator.
This one next who would love to see this one live
He is always be a legend for Australia
Thank you. A good reminder how good Mr Cricket really was!
What a batting Mr cricket, and another one is commentry.. Tony greig is the epic for commentry. Now a days miss this one..
One Of Most Liked Overseas Player In India.
Hussey is definitely the most suited to the alias of "Mr. Cricket"
Did any one remember his sixes against....ajmal .....3 sixes
There ought to have been a little bit of McGrath batting in this video.
Seeing Pidge bat for 7:53 was a treat in itself.
Dear Glenn
You helped me a ton
Cheers, Mike
Mike Hussey is one of those cricketers that no one hates
Mr Cricket was my favorite batsman back in the day...
I Was Like Him From Chennai Super Kings When Hussey & Hayden Come In CSK In IPL 🏏 2008
One of the legend from Australia ❤️

He hit the best pull shot of any lefty ive ever seen.
Miss you Tony Grieg 🙁
One of the gems from Hussey. Incredible knock.
Mr Cricket. Dead set legend of the game. I can't think of anyone as liked as Mike Hussey. Apart from the bowler he is tonking.
i am watching live this match what a batting mr cricketer love you😘
Nearly 10 years on and Andre nel is still the biggest bell end in cricket.

Ponting maybe?
@@sp7186 I just like the elegance of Huss--short arm jolt-- he did not miss
what about Steve Waugh....LOL
or Bob Hawke
McGrath deserves atleast one bowl highlight, it's a disservice to the fighting bowler.
Love You Mr. CRICKET 😘😘
Mike hussey one of the best middle order batsman if not the best in Australia. Amazing average and very good technique.
yeah Hussey or S Waugh. I'd give it to Hussey though, I can not stand S Waugh
One of the best test inning.
That's Mr. Cricket right there!!
Classic player
They didn't show the score of McGrath just once in the entire video, not even at the end of an inning.. What a shame..!
