    As a private pilot myself, this video shows exactly what flying is about. Adventure, exploration, dealing with routes issues and most importantly breathtaking views. Thank you for making these videos as real as possible, they leave a greater impact than an over edited glorification of aviation.

    While acquainting myself with the PA28-181, I have recently stumbled upon your Channel. I've been enjoying the channel a lot, in fact, I've found myself watching one of your videos every morning for the past week or so to help me wake up and start the day (I get up at 3:00 A.M. so I need all the help I can get!). As an American Pilot, I've found it interesting, the differences in the Ratings (Night Rating, Restricted Instrument Rating). I had to do a quick Google search to figure out the differences between Britain's ratings/qualifications with ours. On another note, I went up in the Archer yesterday for the first time and was very pleased with it, I expect to log more than a few hours this year in the PA28. Keep up the great work Jon, I look forward to your videos.

    It is refreshing to see a normal GA pilot doing normal things and making occasional errors and omissions at least as well as I do (!). I really admire how you so freely share the highs and some lows of your ventures, showing the realities of GA flying in the UK.However, I was somewhat surprised that you did not wear a life preserver for your flights over water to Bournemouth. As a sailor I can only say that an unexpected swim is unwelcome and shocking (in the physical sense). It seems to me that it would be hard enough to get out of a ditched aircraft without then having the struggle to stay afloat after the horrors of the event. I have recently chosen to wear a 180N automatic lifejacket when flying over or near water (I fly from a seaside airport) though I freely admit this safety move is recent having flown 11 years with only occasional use.......... I urge all GA pilots to consider this precaution - none of us knows whether or when.Keep up the good work, please!

    Just found your channel following a referral from AviationPro in the Netherlands and having watched a couple of videos so far, I must say that I was very impressed and felt as though I was actually in the cockpit with you!
    I'm not a real world pilot, didn't have the money nor the brains ha ha, but I have spent many of my 'retirement' hours flying with the X-Plane 11 simulator, both GA and tube liners. Personally I still get a tad nervous about landing in a sim, so how I would be in a real aircraft is anyone's guess lol.
    Keep the videos coming, for they surely are going to be an inspiration to all flight enthusiasts, no matter whether real or in the sim :-)
    Well done :-)

    I continue to search RUclips for GA videos and always come back to you! Beautifully crafted videos and such a down to earth and easy interaction with us behind the 4th wall. It also helps that many of your flights are out of Biggin and around the South East; exactly where my lessons will be and future flying too! :) I'd love to visit Redhill, you and Oscar Romeo one day! Also, it seems to me already that IR(R) is almost a requirement given our weather, would you agree? Do you put this to use more than your night rating?

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Scott. To answer your question, absolutely yes. I've rarely used the night rating, but Very regularly use the IR(r), either formally, or use the skill to supplement VFR flying in marginal conditions.

    Another brilliant video, can really tell the effort you put in production wise. Fantastic. Again, if you ever fly the pond to jersey let me know. We are very lucky to be so close to be able to fly the D-day beaches and some amazing French coffee! I must start recording some flights too, had a brilliant flight to Swansea just last week. How do you record the audio?

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  7 лет назад

      +Ashley Johnson hi. Wilco. Sometime this year hopefully. The audio goes directly into the GoPro via an attenuator which brings the level down. There are several ways to do it.

    Fantastic video and excellent quality. I grew up in Kent but now live in the USA and fly Cessnas for fun. Flying in the UK seems much more controlled than it is even in the busiest areas of the USA - is that the case? Are there any areas of the UK where are you can fly without talking to ATC? Also, what software are you using on the iPad? Thanks again!

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  7 лет назад +2

      +cousinscrowd hi, thanks. There's lots of class g airspace where you dont have to talk to anyone. I fly a lot in a 50 mile radius of London, which is very congested with low level class a, and a lot of class d, so we are encouraged to talk to a radar service a lot, because they are helpful at preventing controlled airspace infringements. A traffic service from them can be useful to, as a lot of GA around here is funnelled in a tight band of airspace. Our class D is very controlled, and they are no where near as relaxed about it here, as they are with you.

    do you realise how lucky you are? I'd love to just hope in a plane and fly around a bit, of course it's not as easy as that but you make it look easy so may I ask how long/many hours you have been flying? I live not far from a small airfield called City Airport (formerly Barton) and watching these videos is certainly making me think about having a go. We'll try a tester flight I think!

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  7 лет назад

      Thanks. Biggin Hill insists that pilots obtain PPR for both inbound and outbound flights, and may request you quote the PPR number they allocate you once you've been given your permission.

    Nice video once again! Would you recommend Biggin for visitors?

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  7 лет назад

      It's not bad. You have to obtain PPR online, but easy to register. There's public transport into London, a cafe on site. A nice big runway with good facilities and ATC.

    • @easyJetAirbus
      @easyJetAirbus 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the quick reply!

    • @szaniszl
      @szaniszl 6 лет назад

      BTW, you don't need to register to obtain PPR. If you read EGKB AD 2.20 1 (e) it states that filing a flight plan (VFR or IFR) complies with the requirement of obtaining a PPR.

    • @TheFlyingReporter
      @TheFlyingReporter  7 лет назад +2

      I do write it down in shorthand. I know the airfield, so you get to know what to expect. I found it impossibly difficult at first, but gradually it comes to you. I think for non based aircraft, they'll probably break it up, or slow it down a bit.

  • @flybe146

    Yes i'm one of those inspired by your videos and will be getting back to flying asap. One question though, do you take all of the power off when you land during the day when not landing on grass i.e concreate runways, I alwasys found it better to keep some power on?

    • @TheFlyingReporter
