"Civilization" means knowing how to live in cities, to be a citizen, and to participate in civic life. It means, among other things, complying with rules and norms, and being considerate towards the people around you. Being able to interact civilly with complete strangers every day is actually not something that comes naturally to humans, it is something we must learn, we learn to say "please" and "thank you" and step to the side when passing others on the street. Our animal instinct is to fear and mistrust strangers, but civilization is learning to treat strangers with dignity and respect.
An over-emphasis on individualism is the opposite of civilization. Putting selfish interests above the common good prevents civilization from functioning. When people refuse to help each other, then the benefits of cooperation cannot be attained, and there is no more reason to live in cities. Then, those who have the means to do so will leave the cities, the cities will decay from neglect, and civilization is lost.

The East ACTS on what they have learned, the West just gives a passing reference but acts on little - except what they like to "cherry pick" on. The Chinese has Confucius (Kung Fu-tse) and the West has Jesus Christ (Emmanuel) and strange though it may be, BOTH philosophies teach a similar ideology about human relationships. In the East, Confucianism is not only taught but enacted upon and woven into the very fabric of their culture. In the West, Christianity is taught but not acted upon and is given only a cursory respect and acknowledgement. It is as though in the West, it is all just "pretend Christianity and pretend religiosity" - like someone who goes to church once a week on a Sunday, picks up a Bible and calls themselves, a "Christian" but does nothing the rest of the week with their teachings - no more than someone who visits a garage, picks up a wrench and declares themselves to be a "mechanic".

"Plebeian being more important than Monarch." "民贵,君轻" (The people are more important than the elites) is a foundational principle of Confucianism. This core value underscores the importance of the people's welfare above that of rulers. Interestingly, many Western countries have yet to fully embrace this fundamental democratic ideal, despite their claims to democratic governance.

The hall of wisdom is truly a great hall to see and learn from Confucius who lived some 2500 years ago. As I remember the main teaching of Confucius is benevolence and learning as the greatest virtues for people to live their lives. Emperors are symbols of unity, wisdom and benevolence. Confucius said that people should learn every day and being static means going backwards. That is why Chinese people are investing heavily in learning and studying. The first ever exams conducted to hold an official position in the government was in China.

Obviously the last chinese Imperial dynasty, the Manchurian Qing", didn't learn from Confucius and helt the nation static and backward - which led to its downfall and "100 years of Humiliation" by the West - something that China is still trying to recover from.

But absolute freedom = anarchy, basically system that doesn't work in any shape or form as it quickly becomes the old survival of the fittest with no respect to anyone. So you need laws and rules for good society and that's limiting your freedom, but in a good way.

Confucius was born when China was in chaos with fighting between warring parties. He envisioned how a harmonic society would be based on the conduct of people and the relationship between people. Confucianism was just one of hundreds of then-new ideas at his time. The other prominent one is lawism. Historically, Chinese rulers ruled with law and educated people with Confucianism. Confucianism does not talk about religions or gods. It entirely focuses on how a person can possess a better state of ordinary human. Therefore, Chinese people generally believe one needs improvement by learning and don't believe birth rights. The Western culture emphasises the birth rights and claim the birth rights are human rights. I think it helps to view China with this unique basic difference.

    • @user-sf1nq9uj7p
      @user-sf1nq9uj7p 24 дня назад +1

Confucianism is a PHILOSOPHY - not a theocratic ideology. Somehow, Westerners tend to, in their West, believe that the Chinese "worships" Confucius as a "god" - which is very puzzling as to how they can get things so mixed up in the West. The philosopher is VENERATED in memory of him as a TEACHER - but not as a DEITY. Huge gulf of difference.

There are certainly outliers in every country/population, but Chinese people are usually humble, family oriented, well-educated, and above all, hard working, that's why China has been the world super power for most of its time, only a small dip (in the length of history) of the past 200 years, and will come back to the peak soon.

The west wanted the world to learn their culture and spread their culture around the world.
Every country have their own culture and history, especially China which has a long history of culture and civilization.
If US forced other countries to learn and adapt to the western cultures or style then it won't be right. Freedom of everything is more acceptable eg. freedom of speech or freedom of religion etc.
If US forced their culture on China or vice-visa then it won't be right to do that.
Best is to learn EACH OTHER culture to understand each other better.
Which was why president Xi Jinping said people to people interaction is important to understand each other to promote peaceful coexistence.

I'm living in China, rn, and I really love it here.
But I have to admit, that I have trouble "fitting in".
I'm the most xenophobic person I've met, here, and I have trouble looking other people in the eye, because of it.
It puzzles me, how Americans can treat Chinese people so awfully, but in China, nobody cares where you're from.
I've only been to two countries, in my entire life - America, and China.
And China is the only country, that genuinely has given me the experience, of "the actions of your gov't, do not necessarily reflect your own character".
Americans love to SAY that - but actions speak louder than words, and Americans' actions betray the fact that their actions only go so far as lip-service.
It genuinely has been, and still is, a mind-f***, in this regard.
    ------------
I genuinely can't believe that people haven't cussed me out, or openly berated me, for being an American.
I wouldn't even mind it. The fact that it hasn't happened, is what makes me feel even more guilty.

    • @rayhuang6155
