Hi Andy! I'm shocked this is your first time in Utah! I've lived here for 10 years. I served in the U.S military overseas for 20 years and started my photography journey in Germany. Utah is staggering and you've come at a great time of the year. There is SO MUCH! Utah is home of the "Big 5" national parks, all located in southern Utah. There are state parks in Utah that would be national parks in any other state! And though it doesn't get the attention where I live in northern Utah past Salt Lake, there are the Wasatch and Cottonwood mountains that I'm sure you would appreciate...hundreds of jewels. You can't help it but you are just going to scratch the surface for what is really here. Great videos.
Thanks so much, glad you’re enjoying the videos. I knew when I went there that we’d barely scratch the surface and we’d have to leave out so much. we’ll be back though
I drove from Calgary Alberta down to Utah and Nevada through Montana and Idaho last October. Spent 3 weeks living out of my Rav4 and was SO impressed by the scale, colors, patterns and what I perceived as close proximity of one park to the next (interesting the difference in my perspective of distance vs how you felt). But you are right-the beauty just goes on, and on, and on...
Andy, Thank you for your videos and top-notch photography. So glad you made it to the Southwest. I'm very fortunate to live in Northern New Mexico - it is a very special part of the world. Cheers, GB
I left Utah 3 years ago. I miss my Beehive State. I miss the snow ❄, the beautiful colors of fall season, & the breath taking landscapes. Despite my color, race or birthplace🇪🇷 I was always comfortable living in the midst of the peace loving and very welcoming citizens of Utah. Much love ❤
Blown away again Andy, what an adventure, the light, the snow, the textures, the colors, and your images! Stunning, thank you so much for sharing. Unfortunately I am not in a position to be able to attend one of your workshops currently, unless you decided to drop back to the UK, maybe something in the Peak District, or Snowdonia / Eryri, joking mate, take care, safe travels, appreciate the videos!
Great video Andy! As already said least week I’ve been to the SW last year and the boundless vastness is unimaginable for a person living in Germany. Cheers Jan
Thanks for the comment. Chris is actually a friend, and a great photographer (check out his work…I linked it in the description). We sat down before the trip and put lots of research in to find locations where we wanted to shoot, and Chris was incredible in making sure we got there.
Its pretty wild to see you enjoying the SW US, places I've been to instead of the Dolomites or Lofoten (that are bucket list for me). There is so much to see in the western US, I've been exploring all my life and there is still more to see. Anxiously awaiting the Pacific NW installment.
Thanks so much. I really got the impression you could spend a lifetime here and still not see it. There’s so much in the South West. There will be a PNW video, but the next one is the last Utah installment from Bryce and White Pocket.
Hi Andy, congrats for the 100k subscribers, it's a well deserved achievement ! Your recent videos made me realize the magnificence of this region of the world, I'd love to get there one day. Maybe in one of your workshops? I'm saving money, hoping to be able to go on a trip with you for my 40th birthday.
Spectacular photos Andy! I remember my first trip to southern Utah. It was incredible! Nothing prepares you for its vastness, and grandeur. You captured that feeling quite well with your shots.
Having been and there and hotographing this area for so many years ( yes too many!!) sometimes we tend to take things for granted...Your video here is great as well as the images. It's a special place isn't it? JG
It is a very special place…this was one of my favourite mornings ever photographing. I do fully understand though that familiarity with a place can help it lose its magic.
Absolutely gorgeous! The canyons with snow have me thinking about Brownies with a lite coating of powder sugar. All the years I traveled on business, never had the time to enjoy! Now life in Japan not so easy to get back. Hope to do a Route 66 drive one day! Think I’ll pick up that 8mm. 👍
As always, beautiful images Andy. I live on the east coast and have only been to the Colorado Plateau a handful of times. It is, as you say, awesome beyond words.
I had just spent the morning working on some landscape images I'd taken and was kinda bumming about some of the FB groups I'm in and how much AI is being passed as in body captures.. I hate wondering if every bird is real now.. I put this video on and I'm instantly inspired again. Andy, your photography is my absolute favorite to look at and I just can't get over how beautiful your shots always are to me. I would love to get more editing tips from you in a video or course one day. I really hope to one day take photos that capture the feeling I get from your images. Thanks so much for posting.
It's unfortunate that you didn't catch premier light while in Canyonlands. Although my favorite time to photograph the Grand Canyon and Canyonlands is winter time, and I've been very fortunate to have been there a number of times with spectacular light, grey and overcast skies are always a possibility during the winter, as you've experienced.
Stunning images Andy, I love the images with the 70 -300, never knew that lens could get such great results, I have been thinking about it for some time,do you ever use the Fujifilm tele converter for that lens. Torn between the 70-300 or the Tamron 150-500. Really enjoyed the video, but the drive in was pretty sketchy for sure.
Thanks so much, and yeah, that drive in was an experience. I’ve not used a TC with the 70-300, and I don’t know the Tamron…I might have to check that lens out
Bizarre! I was just literally researching possible trips to the South-West when your video popped up on my feed. I'm coming to the conclusion that, being UK-based, booking a tour or hooking up with some local outfitters guides is the only sensible way to go, even though I normally like to travel independently. Those routes in need some serious know-how and a well-equipped vehicle. Not the sort of thing you'd rent from Hertz, etc. Did you go with guides or were they literally just friends / contacts, if you don't mind me asking? Your comments about Cheat-Codes notwithstanding, that does look like a challenging location for finding compositions. I think I'd be constantly shuttling between intimate abstracts and trying to capture the grandeur with a wide angle. Perhaps 6 or 9 image portfolios might be the way to go in order to capture the essence? Looking forward to the second vid.👍
I really hope you’re able to do a workshop here some day, I’m dying to head back to Utah to do it proper photographic justice and a workshop is as good an excuse as any
I am traveling to the Moab area in early April, and would be interested in exploring the area you landed at for sunrise (4:02 through 7:34). What area was it in, and from what road. Do you by chance have GPS settings?
Thanks for the comment. I hope you understand, but I prefer not to give away GPS locations on the internet. Do a little digging around and you’ll be able to find out where it is. Good luck with it
Thanks so much for the comment. I just prefer the feel of the XT5, the buttons, and the fact that it’s smaller over the XH2. But both are great cameras
@@AndyMumford thanks for the reply. How does the evf look on the xt5 in the highest resolution setting? Is it good enough for accurate focusing for landscapes?
Thanks so much. With the snow we were just lucky. You do get snow in southern Utah on the mesas at that time of year, but it’s not guaranteed….we were just really really lucky
Thanks @@AndyMumford I already have the 10-24 (albeit the original one) and was thinking about either changing it for the newer one or getting the 8mm for travel
@@AndyMumford the Sawtooth's are amazing! You might want to look into a guided horseback trip to cover more ground. The hiking is incredible, just takes multiples trips to see more of the range.
Really lovely Andy. I actually really liked seeing this landscape in a slightly colour muted state. Most images I see from this locale is really saturated in colour. The snow across the ranges just made it even more dramatic, really lovely.

Fantastic, Thank you so much Andy! 🙏🤝👏👏👏👋😎👍🎈🎈🎈🇸🇪

I went to Utah in 2017, it felt like you could close your eyes and point your camera anywhere and get an amazing photo lol.
Exactly. We felt like you could literally drop your camera and the image would come out looking good.

Dead Horse Point is a gem. I'm glad you made a stop there.
Absolutely magical. I wish we’d had more time there and been able to do a sunrise there
great landscapes, also the drone shots are also of great impact....

Great to see in a place I’ve visited many times. Just returned from Moab myself.

Wow! I visited Monument Valley at the end of a tour in Florida, before returning to the UK. I wish I had seen Canyonlands as well . . .
