Yes I can say that I have done that Ido diecast cars and trucks now I buy 2. Or 3 so I can do what you did Plus I have the striper😊 I do have to say I learn from you all thanks Paul 👍👍👍👍👍😊
Zinc Chromate and Cockpit green are two different callouts. You are right, the Zinc is to inhibit rust. Not sure why the paint the cockpit a green later - maybe the zinc color is to harsh on the eyes? Heck, IDK.... LOL.
I think ya tryed to rush it, I could see right off you had a "good enough" mind set - the wheel well's should have been painted before the wing's were glued together, and some step's may have been skipped to deal with later, and what's with this brush over sprayer, WW2 planes got spray jobs - planes had to be lite - painting with a brush add's more paint plus more weight....back then materials were in short supply so everything was stretch to go farther...fall back regroup.....lol
I can't say that isn't correct. I also think some frustration crept in and I added mistake on top of mistake. This weekend you can see if, and how I recover!

I might have kept the model as a paint mule.
Isn't that zinc chromate that is the interior paint. It was supposed to combat rust.
