Context is important. This is a quiet family neighborhood… placing 400 traumatized and disenfranchised men (which will quickly be increased per trends at other facilities) in worse than prison like conditions with only 10 mall-level minimum wage security guards for the whole facility is kinda braindead. Meanwhile the building owner and BHRAGS are taking in an *undisclosed* sum of our tax payer dollars for the whole exchange. No study was done to flush out potential problems for the neighborhood, no community input including from our council member was considered, no additional funding is going to the neighborhood or local PD to compensate, and they will not be held at all accountable for the results. 30 days and these men will be kicked back out and the cycle continues, it’s a revolving door setting them up for failure and nobody’s happy expect the people taking in all that sweet sweet taxpayer money. Their only justification for this is that, “It’s a temporary emergency”…. a temporary emergency that apparently is going to last at least *9 years* according to the lease agreement. What a pathetic circus . PS: Shahana is actually against the reckless way they’re forcing this on the community.. she found out at the end of last year the way we did and couldn’t intervene. She’s the reason we even had this community meeting at all.
