I have a closet full of sealed product from the last time Rudy told us these were the times when real wealth is made.
well this time around you fill the bathroom.
What timeframe was the last time? I feel like it was earlier in year when we had the first recession. Or was it earlier than that?
When they say "the time when real wealth is made" they're referring to _their_ wealth_ 👍
Finally some get the Rudy schill! I woke up a year ago. I have a lot more cash since stopping buying. He always talks about downside being less risky than the risk of FOMO and buying in it. I tried but completely lost. Downside is a bad way to be. Easy for him to say, in his ivory tower.
real rookie mistake to not fill the bathroom.
My best friend had over a Million Dollars of Magic Cards he kept in a Safe in his house. We both collected magic in the 90's and we both had the power 9. I sold off my collection in 1998 he never stopped collecting. In fact in 2016 he mortgaged his house to invest another $100k into Magic. On Sept 14th 2021 he died from Covid at 44 years old. He mother sold off all his cards. She picked a good time to unload that treasure trove. Sadly his mother passed away 4 months ago from Cancer. Rip Ken and Cindy.
So you’re saying you ended up the proceeds?
That's so sad. Bless 'em. May they rest in peace.

Thanks for sharing. Your story is a reminder that life is short, enjoy and do what you can.

Breaking even is actually LOSING money.
Opportunity cost and inflation.
Most people have trouble breaking even, so even that would be an improvement for them.
Is this the obligatory bot chain or are you just being so vague as to be suspect?

Prior to 2019 Magic had one booster box product. Collecting sealed product now feels like collecting seashells. This comes from someone who has a lot of sealed product. I’ve stepped back in the high interest rate environment but I’m still holding everything I have long-term because that’s what the plan was. It does hurt to know that my money would have been better in cash now, OR I could have bought everything at todays prices, but like Rudy says, you can’t predict the future. I do miss your comment of “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” We do live in an extremely short term oriented society, which makes people lose sight of long term potential.

Keep buying high then selling low investment bros, how’s that NFT investment goin?
Seriously buy low sell high…It’s not that hard. You buy on the way down and hold, then sell on the way up. I just don’t get the difficulty. You don’t need to get lucky and “predict” the market to see a graph go up or down. It’s when you get greedy that bad things happen. You just gotta make 10x don’t you? You can’t just sell it and buy it slowly for 2x or 3x over time.
Being honest and real isn't appealing to a lot of people in 2023. They always choose the comforting lies no matter how many times it burns them. Weird they will be critical of Rudy for a slight miss and choose failure on a larger scale

Every time a small LGS closes Ruby gets his wings
Its so wild to hear these markdowns. In Denmark, the land of Lego. You NEVER see a product being marked down more than 15% its an unwritten rule. They just keep inventory until it runs out and replace with new product numbers. Probalby not the best way of doing business. The same is true for magic. Even Crimson wow only received a 15% markdown and stores are still flooded with them.
That's really interesting, does Amazon EU not run regular discounts in Denmark? Here in the UK Lego themselves don't usually reduce prices, but Amazon and various toy stores often sell sets for say 30%-40% off.
@@candybraceletsThis is wild, we don’t have Amazon in Denmark and the German, which would be the closest, doesn’t have discounts on MTG, not like the ones in the US.

Those are by Anna Razumovskaya, a modern russian painter. Not exactly classics, they go for a couple of hundred bucks.
This Matt Damon fortune favors the bold shit gets old really quick...until booster pack fun is killed off, quantites reduced, and bi-weekly or more sets with masters quality reprints are reduced, no sealed product or singles will go up in value. But what people do not often tell you is fortune often murders the bold who acted based upon incomplete knowledge of a financial market. Until Wizards Hasbro understands they have killed their top teir revenue stream for 3+ years and builds true collectability back, wealth will never be transferred to anyone other than them for buying their ever collapsing sealed products.

Was thinking the same thing. I've also watched every video like this that he's made in the last 3 years, and it's absolutely not the first time he's said that. Then, not even a few months later, another disaster from Wizards is unleashed upon us and the market gets more messed up.
I'm waiting for Wizard's "play test" card project to hit the market. That will make Magic 30 look like a fun vacation.
Rudy, collections that you pass on, you could instead broker. Like, take a ten and redirect it. Be the matchmaker between what people are looking for and what people are dumping without owning it. So, no sales tax etc. Just a service fee/commission/whahavyou

What are the boxes worth is you actually track the pulls? If the value is in the rare serialized cards but you see 90/100 or 450/500 of the money is already pulled. How can you have incentive to purchase the product with the plan to sell it later? You know the majority of the hits are pulled. Where is the value?
Love the optimism

I got into the game a while ago. Started having less and less people to play with and my LGS is over an hour away. Sad to see hasbro had been releasing so many sets as a money grab
New metazoo fan art set looks amazing!
can someone tell me who the artist is of those paintings back there?
I have a hard time recommending anyone buy regular boxes of any card games at this point. Those products have a real chance of going to 0. Collector's boxes and that stuff is where all the "investment" has been concentrated in. If the game died tomorrow there would still be a market for the collector pieces where the other cards become worthless. Same with sports cards and most collectibles outside of timeless pieces like art or watches. The other thing I'll say that I don't think this is the bottom for the economy yet. Stock away some money unless you get a great deal and be ready to pounce on things in a year or two. I'm talking about stocks, real estate, and collectibles at that time.
I have started to move away from sealed and more into higher end singles. I still think some boxes (mainly Pokémon) will do fine but it's nice to branch out.
