Rudy is perfect embodiment of saying "it doesn't matter what they say about me, what matters is that they say it"
That’s the truth and it’s also sad, nowadays that’s how it works, unless what’s being said is gonna get ya arrested or killed
@@Swellington_ it was always working like that and not only now, it's pr 101, but nowadays it's easier than ever, social media and keyboard warriors are just free marketing, and he's experienced enough to know exactly how to play this game
@@m1xxx3r uhm….hence I said “nowadays”? And ya think that’s because no other generation in history has been so “connected” with everyone almost everywhere instantly? Well almost everyone and everywhere, definitely not N Korea and another nation or two,but yeah, you said what I did, but idk anything about Rudy and that’s fine
No, negative attention is still bad. You can be blasé about it but reputational damage still holds true, if people know you aren't good for business they're more likely to withhold business, it's probably better to be known than not known at all, but it's still worse to have a negative reputation. Returns from cardboard investing are still lower than S & P, most assets, take up physical space, and are illiquid, so it doesn't help that he occupies a narrow, less profitable niche.

When you factor for inflation the game piece era is worse than you think.
Money itself is worth less, packs cost more, and the game pieces have lower values than they used to. If the cards retained the same value inflation means they're worth less than they were a few years ago. That they're going down in value while prices are inflating is a double whammy.

Reprints and power creep have destroyed any value in MTG outside of Reserve list. Reserve list is hard to find buyers for.
This is why my savings is In ammunition. I have ammo in my safe that has quite literally 5x'ed value in 18 years
worse for who? Game player have cheaper cards to put in their decks. That's better imho
Rudy is the ultimate bond villain. He jumps from an airplane with parachute and lands on a yacht full of sealed video games
Why arent you refunding the missing item?
Because he is getting new ones made.
@@NOLA-vv3sz ah

Not going to lie, I watched this video hoping uncle Rudy was actually going to do a pink visor talk about bankruptcy. As a person going through one, I really would love to hear the perspective of someone educated like you on it.
THE HOSINGS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL MORALE IMPROVES!
38:10 Rudy going full paranoid god complex by the end of the video was beautiful. RIP king of the Game Pieces 😌🙏
Thank you for supporting Rudy.
@@bigmac9439 You must be a RudyCucked patron. That's cute!🥴
Ok but why wouldn't you refund people on the missing playmat? That's just poor customer service rudypoo.
This is no place for the meek, this is cardboard investing-the nice guys get crushed beneath the heel of ruthless cardboard scammers who will do anything for extra gains! 📈🚀
Maybe he will make it up to them some other way

Looking at the world right now, I can't imagine this is the bottom of the market, plenty of room to go down left!!
Wait. Did I hear that right? Rudy is taking a dig at patrons being upset when he communicates that they won´t get product they paid for and just writing that off as "negativity"? I´d call that bad communication. But what do I know? I´m just another meat popsicle taco timmy.

Everybody says they want deflation, until prices start to go down.

That drawer of sealed games is worth more than most people watching's entire collections.
Earthbounds value has dropped a ton though
It's crazy to think in March we will hit the three year mark from peak prices of most collectables. It was such a short boom but felt like years.
This kind of video is the reason why I love you Rudy ! Your video are SOOOOO interresting. Keep doing those, they are my vaforite !!!
Happy 3*69* thousand subs! I was there in the cruel summer of 22. I was there in the madness before and after.
I think this is a good time to buy for those people that simply wants to collect the cards and/or boxes for pure collecting purposes, irrespective of any future financial value.
But as an investment, I may be wrong, but I believe that apart from very specific products (maybe some crossover IPs), Magic as a whole is done.
Modern cards are reprinted into oblivion and/or power-crept into irrelevancy. The majority of vintage cards have been left behind within the game to such extent that are only desirable for old-school collectors; and even for the few top-tier chased power-pieces there is still the risk that WotC will eventually find a way to reprint them as part of some special premium product.
As for sealed product, supply will only decrease over time, but pricing is also determined by demand: how many people in 5-10 years wil be interested in buying a collector box of some New Capenna or Winds of Eldraine set and pay an extra for those?
I agree. I will be buying more set boosters for myself. However I am only buying two of each. The idea is/was to hold on to them and have one to sell for later (ideally for +$200) to cover the cost of both boxes. I did start with just doing the yearly commander release, but it grew to every set and I stopped that somewhere around the New Capenna. It feels like why even bother if they are going to reprint everything and I can just buy stocks/bonds and not have to worry about shipping and waiting and selling.
“Magic as a whole is done.
Modern cards are reprinted into oblivion and/or power-crept into irrelevancy. The majority of vintage cards have been left behind within the game to such extent that are only desirable for old-school collectors“
It’s uncanny how perfectly this sums up Yugioh as well 💀

Great insight Rudy, thanks for the video!
Next to vintage box openings, these long form market discussion videos on MTG are my favorite. Of course I enjoy when we talk about the market as a whole pie with CDs and bonds, other tcgs and collectibles as well as real-estate and dodge coin and also delicious Troy ounces of .999 fine silver mmmm. Now please open a box of Urza's Legacy for Patron @$5K
LOL how many bottoms has rudy called now? Rudy has now predicted like 10 bottoms and all his heavy bags just keep getting heavier lol
I don't remember him calling a bottom before now; just him continuing to point out that we're still in a bear market.
Edit: didn't call a bottom here either
I just found some old '94 flair single cards from my childhood. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks Rudy, sage as always, have a nice day!
Was deciding whether to go for a walk. Guess I have to now that there's 50 minutes of Rudy to listen to!
Hey, you and me both! ❤
Me too, I was just about to go exercising outside-jk who am I fooling . . . I don't go outside . . . or exercise. (" -.-)
How about you listen to Rudy while you exercise… 🤯
Alundra is such a gem and kudos to anyone else who's played either title!
It truly is. I heard "factory sealed Alundra" and got giddy. I had a plan to collect all the disc variants (think there's like 8) when it was a $25 title. Then it became way more expensive and that plan went out the window. Great game though, and I really should play it again.
Does anyone remember Mad tv? There was an antiques roadshow skit where Will Sasso asks "What's the value of something once you completely destroy the value of it?" Wizards... reserved list... game pieces 😢
I want Rudy to do video game collecting videos now. 😊
The most surprising news of this video are the classic yugioh boxes in the background!
This man is a ticking time bomb.
Market does not bottom UNTIL
OCT/NOV 2024 or later,
when the school loans must start to be
repaid or default.
Remember the X-men cards in the 90’s Rudy? Man I would love to have a set of the first series of those. I have a signed imperial guard card by Jim Lee, literally the only card from that set I still have 😢
The funny thing is that what Rudy is saying is just a fundamental lesson of any buisness that wants to grow. If you want to succeed big you take risks, you gamble. On the other hand if you have your livelihood at risk you diversify in other avenues to never be hosed... Don't be Timmy be like Rudy.
Long video loved listening to it in the background. Rudy will alawyas be the Alpha dog! :)
Damn I wish I had a few of those boxes behind Rudy. He has the boxes I wish I could have brought as a kid!
A 49 minute Rudy talk about bankruptcy is just what the doctor ordered. Entering my goon cave to really enjoy this one. Playback speed 0.75, slowed and throwed.

Earthbound and Secret of Evermore… two of my childhood favorites.
I've been watching since Force of Will, which unfortunately died, but I stuck around here because I enjoy keeping up with the TCG scene through your analysis and wit.
Pretty good explanation of liquidity at the ass end of the video.
One things for sure, this has been a hell of a ride. I’m just a spectator and it’s like GoT in real life.

Great video! More whiteboards and pink visors please :)
Rudy it is a fucking trip seeing your warehouses. Also fucking nice earthbound case there man.
All this talk about intent to induce strong reactions and manipulate 'feelings' of the patreons, prefaced with a prediction that I assure you is 100% on... is exactly why I continue to pay for my overpriced patreon, when I don't even order products from Rudy.
My LGS/business is only in month 8 and we are wildly successful. I too am SURE we are bottomed out, and for us this will be the perfect storm of time and place.
Thanks Rudy for being the taco brain you are ❤

i love those marvel fleer, some amazing art in those.
Low key vintage Yugioh boxes in the back? Okay Rudy, I see you.
Tl;dw - Rudy is eternal...and this isn't even his final form.
Great video Rudy!
We're nowhere near a bottom yet - there's new green initiative fees coming for shipping in 2024 set to spike prices for everything (Maersk laying off 10,000 recently), so there's more pressure against discretionary spending and existing debt on the way. If you have lots of spare cash, the dip will keep dipping, but most consumers are going to have to avoid buying. Bitcoin jumped due to the etf's going on the market, but the sec never approved them, just didn't say no. Yet.
Wheeeeeee!
That collection looks awesome. It is a terrible thing that power creep makes most of it worthless without the hardcore collectors in the game.

People assume that as soon the economy is great again people will put massive amounts of money in collectables again even after they got burned and jaded by the boom.
@AlphaInvestments May I please know the brand and type of shelves you have in the back Rudy ?
🤔 looks like the ones at Costco. There about $90 something
Wouldn't the wars, economic depression, and federal deficit not extend further downward pressure? I would think a relapse of inflation would also be a future factor as well.

Whats going on with the play mat? People bought it, didnt get it and are now told to get f***ed?
Such is life in the harsh world of cardboard finance! Either you're scamming, or being scammed! ( oДo)
Yes. He knew for at least 2 weeks ahead of time that he wasnt going to ever get the playmats but kept it listed in the beta bundle and took the money for it. Then started auto-banning patrons and auto-canceling orders for anyone who called him out on it in his patreon. Kinda scummy. Idk.
I did a chapter 7 after 2020, best decision I’ve ever made in my life.
Ngl im pretty lazy... never got past chapter 1... (" -.-)
Why did you have to go chap 7?
I got to chapter 3 and just dropped the whole thing altogether. Overall, it was a pretty bad manga and there weren't even pictures
You always say options are about timing, but they also have volatility priced into them too. That's even harder to quantify.
Rudy you no understand, why would people buy a 1000 dolar Magic if theres no 20 dollar mat?!?!😂😂
RUDY. I MISS YOU TALKING THROUGH A SHELF!
The play mats were a throw in anyway if I recall.
"Is that a giggity, hey we got a giggity"
Market liquidity is the reason I didn't buy rhodium in 2016. The few buyers are going to set the price, and I only have the option to hold without ever making a profit.
Yeah, plus no one needs to buy that crap except periodic table completionists.
Hows the grading going. Been 3 months now ?
Rudy - Did you ever collect or amass any Overpower CCG from the old CCG days? I was curious if a market ever developed for that game, because it was actually a really fun CCG on topo of Marvel collectibles all blowing up during the big MCU run...
Hi, discussion point possibly.
Older people like the nostalgia of the older cards, the younger people don't collect like we, I'm 44 used to.
Do you see the older cards holding value?
Other then a collector wanting some nostalgia, will the card have value as we older people die off?
Yes, I understand such things do hold value and you said you want more black lotuses, but who wants them and why?
I don't have the reach and not in that upper line of magic like you are, but not many people I know can afford a black lotus or care about getting one.
A box of Urza Saga? It would be cool but seeing it as an investment with how many cards are being printed isn't what I would consider a good investment.
Interesting times indeed, not being negative just picking your brain possibly. Do your thing dog, I like to see people prosper.
To be honest, I am also skeptic regarding the majority of old cards retaining or increasing value in the long term, saying this as someone who enjoyed collecting them.
Apart from the iconic power-9 cards and few selected Vintage & Legacy staples, the only value of older cards lies in their rarity and nostalgic value, but newer MtG consumers seem to be more interested in seeing their favorite tv show, movie or videogame being turned into MtG cards, and I doubt they could care at all about weak cards with old looking artstyle.
And game-wise, what drives sales now it's essentially Commander, which not being sanctioned allows people to just print proxies of difficult/expensive to get cards, further decreasing the demand.
Pre-Modern sealed boxes have the wildcard of how rare some foils are, but even then, it is interested to consider how much actual demand exist for those and how much people are willing to spend for their foiled Cradle or Gilded Drake. But I cannot see younger folks spending a lot of money for the experience to draft some Urza box.
Just my opinion, anyway.
Joke's on you Rudy, the moment you pulled it out, I went "Is that a mint copy of Alundra!?"
showed you.
I have completed sets or close to all those old Marvel cards. I've been selling them to focus on other collections. I don't know if its just me but Rudy looks like he's mad about something you can't trust him when he's angry cause you can tell he's plotting right now. 😂
I need your sealded Tactical Orge. One of my favorite games growing up. Although i doubt i could afford it lol
It’s all about labor market for whether we are at bottom, bottoming process, or still have a large further drop ahead.. make no mistake, a much worse outcome is more than possible even after the current down cycle.
If the “soft landing” can occur we are probably in a bottom process.. if increased rates for longer leads to job losses we are in for a lot worse. So FAR people have been able to keep their jobs. That will not stay true forever in a rising rate environment
On top of that we now have student loan payments back for 40+ million people that have t been paying those for 3 years. Disposable income will drop from that alone. Overall job losses will determine the depth of the coming crisis
I'm almost three minutes in and nice video so far
