Made this cake tonight for my moms birthday. I was intrigued with the cardamom spice flavor ... and since I am from Lebanon, almost eveyone has that spice in their house and this recipe was perfect for the lockdown. I made this cake and the amount of crumble was too much. Also with melted butter, id did not turn out in crumbs but like a soft dough. Will try with cubed butter next time
Exquisite! I'm enjoying a piece of this cake right now and it's so delicious! I had to make a twist because I didn't have yogurt or cardamom though. I Googled and found out that buttermilk is a good substitute for yogurt. It said to cut 1/4 cup of the original quantity of yogurt called in the recipe so instead of 3/4 c of yogurt I used 1/2 c buttermilk. I also used 2 tsp cinnamon. Perfection! My house smells divine. Thank you! Oh, I forgot to mention that I cut in half the recipe for the crumble. Still delicious

I tried this today with nutmeg in place of cardamom. Super tasty. Thank you. For me, cardamom is the everyday spice for our Indian sweets. I cannot associate it with cakes. So tried nutmeg. Cardamom in cakes is a beautiful combination.. everyone should try this.. when i was in ninth grade, i made my first cake, i used crushed cardamom instead of vanilla as vanilla essence seemed too costly to purchase back then, i will never forget the aroma that filled our house when the cake was baking.. cake was so delicious.. till now my father insists on the same cake.. priceless memories.. If the cake was a little dry, it was probably baked a little too long. Next time I would check the cake five to 10 minutes before the stated baking time.

If you baked it in a 9 inch spring form pan the baking time would be about the same. If using an 8 inch spring form pan then the baking time would probably be a little longer than stated in the recipe.

Sounds like an issue with your oven not being hot enough. You might want to get an oven thermometer to check the actual temperature and compensate. Also you should only use the lower heating element. Not the top.

Cardamom is great in icing sugar to sprinkle on cakes and baked goods where a sprinkling is usual.

I’ve never tried that. You could substitute with an equal amount and then see if you like the results.
