EVERYBODY LIES!!!! There is nothing special about Ben being a liar. The Oceanic survivors are such hypocrites. They make a big deal about Ben being a liar, yet they have also been lying left and right or keeping secrets since the show began.
Ben was born December 1964 and came to the island at 8 years old in 1972. He's been on the island and known Richard for 32 years. Richards looks the same in 2004 as he did in 1972. In 1972 he looked like he was in his late 30'sa or early 40's. In 2004 he should look like he's in his late 60's or early 70's.
I loved the flashback sequence with Ben and Annie especially the part when the teacher showed the students the volcano and then suddenly they got attacked by The Others. 😎
"You are the man behind the curtain. The wizard of Oz.". Is it a coincidence that the man's identity Ben stole when we first met him was "Henry Gale", which also happened to be the name of Dorothy's uncle in "The Wizard of Oz"?
Note: I believe those in the Swan Hatch at the time of the Purge survived it. It was probably the last known functioning DHARMA hatch since the button had to be pushed.
I'll have so much more to say about Ben later but I'm actually surprised that people are not more sympathetic to his character after this. Benjamin Linus- The saddest character in tv history, a man that never learned to love because not 1 person in a world of billions ever loved him (not counting mom who died during his birth) to show him the way. So what does he do??? He falls in love with an island. So many people (including myself) miss the fact that in 3×19 Ben tells Locke he has to kill his father, and in 3x20 we learn that Ben had to kill his own father to assume the Leadership role. Ben wasn't testing Locke, he was doing what he believes the island requires of their leader. The same commitment he made before assuming the leadership role. IMO the writing starting from The Man from Tallahassee is top notch. Forget S1 and S2, great seasons in their own right but S3 onward is another level.
@@joshhunt4146 Season 5 is great and over the years I have actually appreciated it even more. At present I would say 5,3,6,4,1,2. But they are all great. S3 would be higher if not for a few throw away episodes. But honestly someone could argue any of the top 4 and I could agree. To rank the Seasons I made at list of all the 15 episodes for each season and did an average rating 1 to 10. I didn't want to penalize the show for giving us longer seasons. However I don't think its the pacing in later seasons (like many do) I just think that we know the criticality more on rewatch. But agree S5 is the best.
@@tony.g20 yeah I remember at the time it aired season 3 was definitely my favourite and the finale is one of the best 2 hours of tv ever. Up there with Battle of the Bastards from game of thrones and ozymandius from breaking bad imo… but there are a couple of episodes in it that although good are a bit throwaway… it’s all about build up and my god does it deliver! Season 6 I think is my least favourite. The finale is one of the best finales in tv history but I feel it drags slightly with the temple. I never used to care for S4 but on rewatch it is a great season. I love 5 so much because for me it’s the only season where I felt the writers mapped out every single little detail before hand (wether that’s the case or not I don’t know). The twist about the incident and how it ends up impacting the losties is just mind blowing
Ben didn't kill his father to assume leadership of the Others. He wasn't leader yet at the time of the Dharma purge. Roger Linus died because he was part of Dharma and Ben personally hated him for past abuses.
@@juanitajones6900 Don't you mean Roger was "murdered"? You had a big stick up your butt about people "justifying" Sawyer killing Cooper, you could at least be consistent.
It is interesting that Ben killed his father like that. The Others might have told him if you want to come with us... I never saw that connection before. I mean they could have waited until all the Dharma folks were together (at night, sleeping) and Ben could have just slipped away before The Purge.
Makes you wonder if everyone who is a member of the Hostiles had to kill their father in order to join. So far only John and Kate have killed their fathers. Jack indirectly caused his dad to die I suppose. Jin refuses to acknowledge his father the fisherman. Mr. Echo caused his brother's death (who was a catholic father). Lots of fathers had to die making this show.
Were you trying to hint that the people who had assisted in Ben's birth were part of the Dharma Initiative? Because that's not possible, according to the show's canon. Ben was born before the creation of the Dharma Initiative. By the way, I think the scene inside the cabin is rather sad . . . for both Locke and Ben.
"If he was born on the island, why was he in Portland?"
Because Ben lies. Obviously.

I thought it was 1973 when young Ben was in the Dharma Initiative.

Yeah, it’s a shame they didn’t continue the volcano story but it’s understandable. It would have well eaten into the budget

Also, the real Henry Gale supposedly made it to the island while flying a balloon, which is how the Wizard ended up in Oz.
The actress playing Emily Linus (Carrie Preston), is the wife of Michael Emerson (Old Ben).

Right as we know that one guy did survive in the Swan Hatch.

And the writing in season 5 just blows everything we have seen before out of the water

Be nice if they had a Lost Playlist (with more than 1 video in it lol) because I'm not combing back through months of random videos.

Are these three really so dense that they saw nothing weird about Richard looking the same age as he did when Ben was a kid?

I think we got some catching up to do

Some of these theories are pretty damn close actually
