Neil, your excitement, curiosity and happiness makes me happy and excited. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are by far my favorite LOST reactor here on RUclips. 3 episodes to go this season. I am looking forward to every episode.
This was a great episode. Ben back story, Richard not aging, Dharma origins and end, finding out who Roger Workman is, Locke being shot. Lots to unpack here.
I remember fandom flipping out about the cabin scene, freeze frames being analyzed to death, etc. reacting to the voice, things flying around the cabin, the reveal that Locke heard the voice, but Ben didn't, etc. One of the great things about watching Neil react is that it helps bring back those feelings of shock and excitement from watching the first time.
So, just to put it out there, in case no one else has said it yet... The name that Ben was using when we first met him (Henry Gale - The man with the hot air balloon), was the name of Dorothy Gale's uncle in "The Wizard of Oz"... And if memory serves, there was a hot air balloon at the end of the movie. The Man Behind the Curtain indeed!
I adore the whole show but the last 6-7 episodes of S3 may just be my fave run of episodes in the whole series. Every episode blew my mind back then with great performances, and so many great cliffhangers, reveals, and new questions. Can't wait for your reactions to the final 3 of S3. Only discovered your reactions part way through S2 but I now watch every one on release day.
Just a friendly reminder: keep the discussion limited to this episode, and the previous episodes that Neil has already reacted to. Avoid saying something that might be considered a potential spoiler. If you're not sure whether something constitutes a spoiler, err on the side of caution. Keep the conversations civil. Otherwise, enjoy, and discuss! :)
@@JacopoBasanisi Just wait for this or that to happen! Can't wait until you see this or that, or get to this episode! This brand new character is the best ever and my favorite! This or that season is my favorite! Did you notice when somebody said this or that, or did you get it when they said something specific?! These are all spoiler free examples of spoiler type of comments.
Can we talk about the man appearing on the chair in the cabin scene, of course without revealing anything about him? I mean it's something happened in this episode but I don't know if he noticed that or not.
Yeah, Ben told John he was born on the island. Looks like that was a lie. Also, the lady playing his mother is the actor's actual wife. He might not have been born on the island, but he was raised there from an early age.
Awesome reaction as always, Neil. 🌴🛫🌄🛬🌴 Love seeing you get so giddy over Lost. This episode takes place on days 89 - 90 after the crash of Ocean Flight #815. Trivia: The actress playing Ben's mother is Michael Emerson's really life wife Carrie Preston. When Ben looks at his watch it reads 4:15:16. Kate goes by the name Annie in episode 1x03 | "Tabula Rasa". Both Ben and Locke's mothers are named Emily. Both of Ben's parents died on his birthday, caused by him. Both Locke and Ben's fathers died so they could join the Others / Hostiles. This is the first episode to air after the announcement of the 2010 end date Ben mother shares the same first name as Dorothy's Aunt Em in "The Wizard of Oz". Dorothy's last name was Gale, as was Ben's alias Henry.
When you said back in the episode with Hurley’s van that was sort of “throw away” information… I was saying “Just you wait.” The Roger Linus pay off was worth it.
This episode and the last before were some of the biggest episodes for the guys and gal's like us back in the day. This was crazy. It only gets better.
It's fine to "jibber-jabber"! I remember getting my mind blown wide open (over and over) by this episode. It can take a little while to pick up all the pieces of your mind and put them back to together into something recognizable afterwards. 😂
You are right now standing at the core of everything that is great about this show.. you're right at the perfect sweet spot between receiving long awaited answers and also asking now bigger and even more important questions to the plot... you're right in the perfect place between being in the dark and having the mysteries still being so tantalising as well as also getting answers... I can tell you the show is great to the end but that sense of enjoyful sweet mystery does change as the show goes on and you get more answers. This 2nd half of S3 is the best part of the whole series in my opinion - it's still working as that incredible mystery show it was in S1 but it's now working also as a great good and evil/action/adventure show where you know more of the mythology and the stakes and the world which you didn't have in the beginning... the show at its best does all of it - character drama, action-adventure and mystery and I think the 2nd half of this season is the complete definition of it... yes Neil you're right at the epicentre of all the very best parts of this great show we all love called LOST....
I found it great that you were wanting a Ben episode in last episode's post-discussion thoughts and wham! Here it is! This is another phenomenal episode. The backstory answers so much about not only Ben + his psychology but also other general mysteries and history of the Island and its previous inhabitants. Little mysteries or dangling threads from the previous 3 seasons get clarified/revealed here while even more mystery is being laid out on a plate for what's left remaining. Amazing worldbuilding, amazing twists, just... incredible television :D Season 3 reallyy delivers in this back half
@@NeilTalks I also wonder if you sometimes notice your ‘complaints’ get a answer. In the episode they found the truck you said it was weird a truck could drive and be out there. Now you accepted that. Lost gives you answers. Even small ones.
Absolutely loving your reactions to Lost. What a wild ride it is reliving the show through your "fresh eyes". Thanks so much Neil, for the honest excitement that you willing share with all of us Lost fans!
I reckon Locke isn't about feeling he has a gift he can offer the Others. He feels he's a natural at being a Leader who can tell people what they Can and Can't Do.
14:32 - The silly things I think about watching this show...Roger and Ben drove out to "the Mesa" to have some beers. When Hurley found the Dharma van with "Roger Workman's" body inside, the van wasn't at the top of "the Mesa" and it was flipped on its side. I guess we can assume after Ben gassed his father he rolled the van down the hill and it crashed. And then Ben walked back to the barracks? I would assume "the Mesa" was some distance from the barracks since they drove there. I don't know why Ben didn't just dump his father's body in the jungle and drive back to the barracks to save himself the walk. And why destroy that nice Dharma van?
Richard, The Ageless Wonder. Great episode and reaction . Getting to know more about Ben. The more you know, the more you don't know. Ben's theme is even mysterious and creepy.
John Gries (Roger Workman) is one of those actors that I always enjoy watching, from Lazlo in Real Genius to Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite. Ben's backstory is awesome, I love seeing the Dharma initiative in all its 70's glory. Great reaction as always Neil! ✌💜🏝
I agree! It's certainly the first time we get to see the fulfilled vision of what the DI could be, and I worry it may be our last, too. Thanks so much, Jessica! :)
I LOVE your post-episode analyses. I'm so happy to have been watching from (near) the beginning. This journey you're on is endlessly entertaining and thoughtful. My only complaint about your videos? They end. Very tempted to join the Patreon just for full-length videos. Thanks for these, I'm unbelievably excited to see you enjoy everything to come!
I don't want to disrespect other reactors, I had great time watching most of them but this is probably best reaction to this episode on RUclips. I mean, at least it's the most I could relate because it's is almost exactly how I reacted to this one. Most reactors weren't as enthusiastic as Neil for some reason. I was so similarly hyped that I spent hours analyzing that cabin scene frame by frame to figure out the man who pops up for a second in that chair. I remember finding faces of Lost characters from the same angle and compare them to the dark figure sitting on the chair, so that maybe I can identify Jacob. And I thought I figured out who it is, which later turned out to be false, but it was still much fun! :D
Dude, you were so GIDDY this episode! :D It's a great one. As much as I dislike season 3, the last few episodes and the finale are awesome. This is one of the best.
Niel! Amazing reaction! I am beginning to think that you are most certainly going to figure this all out! Which is bad for me, because I hate it when reactors are right! ahaha Tell me, next week, he finale is 2 episodes, are you posting them in one reaction? Cheers from Portugal and keep it up!
Another great and fun reaction! I wanna ask if you one day wanna react to the show Black Sails. Its an underrated show, but its really good and I bet you will love its story and charaters.
I'll definitely include it in the discussion for my next series. I'll be doing a poll on my Patreon as we get closer to wrapping up Lost, so be sure to check that out. Thanks!
We always underestimate the plain number of twists and revelations we get every episode. John is slowly becoming Ben, "he" killed his father, he's the leader of the others, he's been a liar for some time now. Both consider themselves to be special, one way or another, both had someone else paving their path to the persons they are now. I remember asking myself about something we take for granted: why all those dead people visions? Shepard sr, Yemi, Ben's mother.. is the island really purgatory?
"Ah, another terrible dad!" - Neil, and every LOST fan ever. Great reaction as always dude!
Ben being obsessed with pregnant women and their dying suddenly makes a lot more sense

If anything Roger killed Ben's mom. Who takes a woman about to give birth hiking in the woods in the middle of nowhere?
If I remember correctly, she went into labour prematurely, so they naturally wouldn't have expected the birth to be imminent.
