- Thanks for checking the video out! This time we build an old Cannondale with the new Velo Orange eccentric bb converter!
I do some test riding with it and see how it goes. Check back here for a longer term review 👍
Velodrome survey has now closed :,(

Hey! I’ll pin a comment if I have issues with this in the future, but currently 108km and it’s going well.
I mentioned in the video a survey about the Velodrome, but unfortunately it’s closed now. Fingers crossed it stays around 🤞 thanks for checking the video out
I agree about using alternative grease! For those who live in US, Lucas Marine Grease is a cost-effective option for all bike parts and can be found at popular stores like Home Depot and Walmart.
Good tip, thanks for sharing 👍 love the cost saving methods 😎
I'm a cheap b@stard so I get the walmart brand of marine grease and it's lasted me eons. Once my Phils oil runs out I will be getting walmart brand gear oil instead. Half the price of phils but 20x the amount. Bike specific greases , oils and cleaners , etc are way expensive for what they really are lol
That's a very cool looking bike! Well done
With all the positivity and love and just a recommendation. If you have to dish a wheel two full spoke nipple revolution it's the only way in four steps - half - half - half - half and always start with the side wich needed to be loosened. The wheel is a system and doesn't like big stability changes in overall spoke tension and two full spoke nipple revolution in one step is definetely. Like if you disassemble a wheel and you try to save the rim (in it's) for another bulid you doing it by half revolution by 32/36 spoke at least 5 rounds...
Hey, thanks! Yeah I’ve done it this way before multiple times with no issues 🤙 but you keep doing your steps if that’s what helps ya sleep at night
Really diggin this build! Looks like an awesome ride.
Beautiful ! This is sick !
Thanks for sharing !
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😄🤙
Nice timing! I'm eating my subway right now.
Arphy! Haha happy Saturday, hope you enjoy the video 🤙
Big props to you for being our collective guinea pig and testing this! I've been dying to see this done, as a broke bike mechanic I don't really have the means to fuck around and find out on my own with this kind of thing. I love the aesthetics and ride quality of 26ers (my main bike for everything from groceries and commuting to bike tours is a steel Diamond Back 26er) but I also really would love a fun little fixed bike. Currently the bike that would be the candidate for the conversion is in single speed mode, and I already have all the necessary parts except for an appropriate chainring, the excentric BB, and a long axle for a front wheel.
Haha that’s exactly what I thought, even if it breaks and fails it’s better for it to happen to me than X number of other people! I’ll keep the comments section updated if/when it does fail, but just rode it again and it’s going great so far.
Did many skids down a long road last night on the way home and had heaps of fun haha.
The steel Diamondbacks are a really good choice, they make wicked do-it-all bikes 👏
Sounds like a good plan, hope the BB goes well for you 👍 Still wouldn’t rush to it, I’ll keep testing to see how it goes but it should’ve failed(or loosened) by now if there were any weak points.
love these old cannondale frames. sick build, love the attention to details with the matching chaining and grips, always looks sick!! 🔥
Man I’ve been dreaming of a 26ie for years… that thing is so cool
Hope you build one up sometime, I’ve had a few and they’re so fun! My first one had really low gearing for off-road use, which was fun but it wasn’t as usable with the low gearing haha.
One with two fixed gears would be really cool though 😍
Thank you! 🙌
Such an interesting build! And so soothing listening to your videos.
Thanks! Pretty strange one this, really happy with the outcome too.
Thank you! 🙌 glad to hear it
thanks to you and other helpful people on here i have my own single speed ride now and its realy nice fun simple ride , keep doing more vids they are good helpful tips and visual demo stuff thanks🙂
Great idea, keep the bikes coming 😎
Thanks! Will do, already have most of the parts for the next build 😎👌
Have more builds than what I showed at the end of the video too, just couldn’t find photos of them haha.
Thanks for checking it out!
Good to have you back! 😊
Good to be back, thank you! Looking forward to more videos soon 😁
Longer days now so more light and time to film, too 👌
Hey, i ike your videos, I also like your bikes, Thanks for showing how this BB converter works. Greetings from Leipzig, Germany! Stay tuned!
I owned this exact bike frame and built it up into a gravel grinder back in 2011 ish. Really awesome frame and great quality!
Hi, great video. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. :D
Thank you! Thanks for hanging around, lots more to come 😄🤙
Great video. You have inspired me to take on an older Kona rebuild. I will check out the Japanese handlebars.
Thank you! Ooh nice, what Kona is it?! I have a purple Lava Dome coming up, might’ve seen it at the end of the video.
Love the old Kona’s 👌
Kona Blast . Lovely blue.
Wonderfull build. Found a 89s M500 at a farm and will build a nice commuter too. thx for the inspiration
little tip. you can use cola and alluminium foil to polish rust. works very well and safe wd 40 :)
Thank you! Ooh rad! That’s a good find, definitely will make a great commuter 👍 enjoy it! Welcome, thanks for checking out the video 🤙
Tidy looking bike
Thanks for posting
Thank you! 🙌 thanks for checking it out
This frame is from a town in my state. Lost of History from the 1700's in Charleston. Small world!
Oh cool! Wondered if someone from around there would see the video, small small world 👍 it made its way all the way to New Zealand 🇳🇿 cheers
awesome man, looks like it turned out well! I had no idea about the new plans for the velodrome, will be shame if it goes :(
Dope build!
this bike looks so sick dude...
Thank you! I agree, stoked as with how it came out 🥳👌
love me some silver and purple parts. my yellow m900 has a bunch. i think its funny we both just finished cannondales that have silver cranks and purple chainrings and mavic wheels, and those very same purple esi grips. Love this build, its super my style.
Ooh you have good taste! Haha purple bits go so well with so many colour ways of these bikes, and it pops so well! 👍 thanks for checking it out!
Love cdales .owned many from 1986 onward.
cool vid! always wanted to see if these things work or if they eventually slip because of torque. looks like they work great!! def handy if you want to run ss on a geared frame. bike turned out cool! cheers
_GARY_ ! Yeah working great so far, should’ve slipped by now I would think? We’ll see though 🤷♂️ handy as for weird setups! Yeah thought it would be cool to run a Nexus on something, if it doesn’t work on the Dale/fixed 👌
Interesting BB it’s good to have options. I run a 42x17 on an old univega with same dropouts chain is tight but no issues and a very neutral gear for me.VO is creative
Sure is! Really good to have options, opens up a lot of setups for different bikes 😎👌 ooh rad! I have an old Univega Uno I need to do up 😅
Good job, that's cool. I feel your concern around the grub screws! Be great if it lasted though!
Thank you! Yeah really wish they used something more secure, but then I’d probably ham-fist the bolts into the bearings and ruin them that way 🤔
They could double up the grub screws though, I think?
@@toastyrides Could it be splined instead of just rotating? wouldn't so accurate for adjusting but would be close enough
Good job
Supah kewl! I love it and maybe ill build my triple triangle with that bb also.
Im in massachusetts, not very far from the home of cannondale
Thank you! Ooh that’ll be rad, playful frames the old GT’s 🔥
Oh cool, greetings from New Zealand! 🤙 there must be a few Cannondale around you then?
Fun.
Thanks.
Cheers Josh! Glad you liked it 🤙
one thing you might not have considered is that usually the part that you removed from the hub controls the axial preload on the bearings. It looks like now when you tighten the wheels nuts, that might over preload the bearings significantly, leading to rapid wear. the Peak Torque channel has a good video showing how this works when he compares thru axles to QR.
You might’ve missed it or just assumed that I swapped axles without considering that. But you can see at 16:38 that the nuts are at a random point on the axle with thread showing(no control from the axle I removed). It’s the same system with both axles, they’ll be allg 👍
ah yeah just had another look, the end caps are threaded and so you can still independently preload the bearings👍
Green Bay baby!
Since aaages ago 😎😆👌
Smashing video ,great job ! Thinking about the 3 small grub screws, it does sound flimsy? Yet if fully tightened up i think you would need a lot of force for them to slip , much more than the power from pedaling? Even grinding up a steep hill ? I guess time would tell .
welp, time to jump onto marketplace and look for cool vertical dropout frames to convert!
Haha 😅👌 it opens up so many possibilities! Even for a cool nexus setup, less restrictions and saving more old bikes 😎
Great bike! Raw aluminum would be sooo cool, though.
Thank you! Yeah all polished up, would look really cool 👌 maybe one day it will get that treatment, but for now the original paint will be preserved 😄👍
Thanks for video! If you used one spacer from drive side instead of two, wouldn’t it make chainline better?
love the video, what wald 137 basket bag are you using?
Thanks! Glad you liked it. It’s a custom made one by a friendly follower! “Highfivenaturelife” on Instagram, they might be able to make another 🤔
Have you had any experience with eccentric rear hubs? I believe White Industries makes some, they would be another route around the vertical drop outs.
you want a single half link. and maybe a double hollow 9speed chain... my 2010 GF Rig SS XC 17.5" has a BB like that and it's literally 13 years old now...
Hey! Yeah I don’t think if weight savings were a concern I’d get tyres that don’t weigh 1kg each haha. I would like a cool gold chain though, for the style! I have a Izumi chain for an upcoming fixed gear build though 😎 oh rad! What’s the bb called? Is it a trickstuff one? 👌
And the half link, don’t really need one as there’s heaps of chain tension left 🤙
@toastyrides mine is a Press fit.. I had to go look.
Whats the BCD of the chainring? Ive got a set of deore cranks and cant find a ring larger than 32! Looking for a 41 like what you have
Hey, these are 104bcd cranks 👍 some bmx companies do race chainrings in this bcd in larger sizes for bmx racing, this is a Tangent chainring.
Cheers!
Do you reckon the Velo Orange Eccentric bottom bracket would work with a Sram Omnium crankset ?
Wanted to convert an old Gt All Terra into fixed without having to weld new drop outs
You would need a 22to24 spacer for the spindle as the Omniums Spindle is 24 on one side, but 22mm at the end while this bb is made for 24mm spindle in both sides.
Nice build!
whats ratio combination crank and chainring?
Thanks! It’s a 46 up front and 18t, did you mean the ratio? 🤔 sorry!
What kind of grease gun are you using with that automotive blue bearing grease?
I use a Dualco grease gun, a mate Mikey recommended it to me and it’s been great 👍
🇦🇺 This is incredible. I am in Sydney, Australia. I have an old cromoly frame from the mid 1990s. Does anyone have any suggestions for who I can see to build it up as a single speed? 🇦🇺
A 135mm Fatbike fronthub laced to a normal 26" rim could work, i just don't know what chainline that would have.
I thought about that,a lot of them come bolt on already too 👌 couldn’t find a cheap enough one to use though, wonder about the chain line but it should be better if anything I would think? 🤔 good idea! 👏
Have a question for the content creator and the comment section. Bought a bike and the front brake hanger on the headset is off center and cock-eyed so am assuming thread damage on the fork. If that is the case what steps can I take to fix the threads? Is a thread file better than a thread chaser? Just looking for some tips and suggestions..thanks
Dang, yeah those things always take out some of the threads. A thread file would help but it’s likely just removed a chunk of the thread so won’t be much material left to “fix”.
The headset will thread over it and you can use that to restore the threads to some extent, then file after.
I just tore apart the headset this morning and yup, the nub from the brake cable hanger mucked up threads on the fork. I might file the nub off...Your thoughts?@@toastyrides
I probably would have kept the rear canty set up, sourced a disc fork and laced up a dischub. But orsome build mate.
Disc fork would be cool, but 1” forks are pretty hard to find let alone for a decent price with a cool design or straight blades 😫
Thank you!
First time i see eccentric crank, interesting. But they can't be adjusted to be centered😂 so it's not an upgrade unless you need them for some reason, but why would you? What do they intend to achieve?
Did you comment before watching the video? 😅😂
@@toastyrides yes
Is it a tensioner for the chain eh?
It is.
@@jacquescelere5693 thanks
May I ask if this is a steel frame or an aluminum frame?
This is an alloy frame, thanks! 🤙
Do some people ever watch videos before asking questions?
didn't understand what you did with the front wheel deal but nice build
Just whipped out the QR axle and put in a solid axle, a rear solid axle disc hub works too though 🤙 thank you! 🙌 thanks for checking it out
Can you help me with the name and model of that rudder?
Hi, there might be a translate problem but what do you mean by rudder? Handlebar? 🤔
There's an issue with sound ?
At what time? What kind of issue? No one else has stated so 😅
Too bad it doesn't last long, aluminum can't handle steel nuts and braking pressure for long. Ideal would be a chromoly frame.
agreed bike grease is a scam
100% big scam 😬 crazy concept eh
Hope you saved the parts, gearing makes riding easier. Boomer
That does sound very boomer 😂👌
I disagree, it makes perfect sense to have 2 Cannondales 🤦
Haha fair, I do have 2 Cannondales though! Just haven’t shown the other one yet (it’s an 80’s ST600 I think, missing decals etc).
