I'm so fortunate to have my teaching pension along with my social security. I've been doing reselling fir 3 years now. It started as a hobby, but I use it to help my sister who is living on just social security. Our country does not take care of our seniors!

Not many are going to be as lucky as we are with someone who has a pension and SS. Those are going away in so many areas. Our country waste money on other countries way to much.

My sister reversed her diabetes by eating keto/Mediterranean. She was taking a pill and insulin multiple times a day to NO medication at all. As soon as she went back to some bad habits her A1C went back up. She now does lazy keto and Mediterranean and has remained with no meds. Don't let them tell you that you have to take meds. The doctors are taught to treat and keep you on medicine rather than heal you. I know you'll do your research. I would not start any meds until I knew better eating and exercise wasn't working. Also. Look into metformin. It causes memory loss and sometimes permanent. I took it for a short time and forgot everyday things that I never forgot. Went to grocery story for hamburger buns and meat. Came home with no buns. Went to doc for an injection that I had to bring and never ordered it. I had done this multiple times before and never forgot. Doc then told me it could cause memory issues. It took a while for me to get memory back. I will never take metformin no matter what. Please look into any meds before you take them. That should scare you enough to do diet first. You got this!

I was also a type 2 diabetic when I was around my late 60s. I'm almost 74 now and no longer a diabetic. I beat diabetes on my own. I was taking metformin, that didn't get rid of the diabetes. I beat diabetes by cutting carbs, alot, I also cutback on the amount of food I was eating and stopped eating between meals. Done.

I was pre-diabetic 6 years ago, I ate carnivore for 3 and half years which changed my life for the better. You don't need to go that extreme but I will say you will have to reduce your carb intake dramatically in order to reverse type 2. Lots of people have managed to reverse type 2 using low carb but it is a way of eating that you will have to do for life more than likely depending on how badly your metabolism has been damaged. I now can eat carbs because my metabolism is healed and my body is now insulin sensitive rather than insulin resistant. I do not eat any ultra processed food though now, and not for the last 6 years; it really isn't hard because my food is delicious and based mainly on eating animal foods such as meat, fish, dairy and eggs. The one thing I would say is please give up eating anything cooked in seed oils or where a seed oil is an ingredient as there is evidence to suggest that seed oils cause you to be type 2 diabetic. Seed oils are too high in linoleic acid which your body cannot process and stores this fat. Linoleic acid oxidises very easily as it is polyunsaturated as this leads to inflamation and disease. Before we all started consuming these oils heart attacks were relatively unknown. Sorry for the long comment, but I would love to see your health improve and am giving you the benefit of my knowledge gained over the last 6 years.

My former husband became type 2 in the mid-90s. We read every book we could find and discovered that the quality of the carbs you eat can make a difference (if you don't want to quit carbs entirely). We learned that white rice, white bread, white potatoes, white flour and things made from it all caused his blood sugar to spike. Find a chart that shows fiber contents of various foods. Switching to sweet potatoes, higher-fiber, whole/multi-grain breads, brown and wild rice made a difference because the fiber causes your body to take longer to process the food so that it's not instantly turned to sugar, so you don't get the spikes. We added more non-starch veggies and obviously fewer/smarter desserts (fruits) and no sodas (we avoided artificial sweeteners because of their side effects). Also, he learned that if he exercised in the mornings, his sugars were more stable throughout the day. And, if you like wine, he learned that red wine was better than white. We also began taking nutritional supplements, including a fiber supplement that we took every morning. Even after our divorce, I kept up with the supplements and fiber (I use Super Seed by Garden of Life - available in nutrition/health food stores and on Amazon. I take about half the suggested dose daily, since I'm not diabetic & just take it for a fiber boost). I've recently read that when you eat a meal, your first few bites of food should be protein first to avoid your pancreas putting out a ton of insulin off the bat. Your doc probably won't get into the nutrition stuff with you (although you're in California... you might have a better chance than here in the Midwest), so try to find an alternative practitioner that can guide you re: supplements, diet, etc. My ex's GP didn't want to know what he was doing - he just said whatever it is that's working, keep doing it. Comforting advice from a doc, right? You're a smart guy - you'll do fine, especially if you treat your new health journey as meticulously as you do your Ebay and Amazon biz. And while I'm here - thanks for all of your help and advice over the last couple of years I've followed you. I just turned 65 and still working part-time, but looking forward to doing more with online sales and greatly appreciate your videos.

Sorry to hear about your diabetes man! It's carbs that kill ya. Carbs turned my gall bladder necrotic, which caused acid reflux, which caused stage 3 cancer in my leftover tonsil cell in my throat. Had chemo to kill the cancer, then the gallbladder gave out and was removed. I switched to a KETO/very low carb diet and my blood pressure and cholestoral and weight all went down. Check it out, it's tasty and it works!

16 is a great start. You will see a slow change at 16. After a month go to 18 and so on until you can reach eating once a day. Your body starts going keto after 12 hours but just barely. Your biggest changes happen after 24 hours. You just have to progress slowly to that to make sure you can handle it and figure out if you need other adjustments like supplements. Man was not created to eat as much nor as often as we do.

Now I know this doesn't happen for everyone. But I can say 2 years later still trying to eat better and without high carb foods daily (yes I do cheat but not daily) I no longer need insulin or any medicine. I also watch how much sugar I eat. They have mentioned same things to me, local food shelves where most items are well beyond sell by date, a veggie program once a month to get free veggies, and yes buy some seeds and grow your own, they are not being rude, just reality what you need to do. Believe me tough trying to survive, my car broke down 3 years ago, I own my home, and never can get enough saved to do anything to get ahead. So thankful USPS is 2 miles down the road. Right!! I get 54.00 a month.I take care of a person with epilepsy, on disability, he cannot work, he gets 23.00a month!! I am also 62 started drawing SS early. When I got SS, they cut my food stamps to a third of what I was receiving . When I worked regular jobs I could never find anything over 30 hours a week. (It cost employers more in insurance etc..workmans comp etc...) So I often had 3 jobs at a time and went to college with 2 children. I always had employers take out for SS.Because of working part time jobs I get very little SS.
WE struggle. I DO grow a garden. Seeds are expensive!! Soil building is expensive. Then I walk out and see deer eating my garden, and the weather! So hot, and watering, time consuming. When I harvest I have much to share. So I give it away to neighbors. Which are ironically from other countries. ( very nice people with heart breaking history of their war torn countries.I know the neighbors have hard working sons and spouses that support their families.3 generations in each family )
ANYWAY..My dad is also 91 and gets 0 food stamps and he did grow his own peppers in pots this year. They are just now blooming. Some how we manage. Each year I sell on eBay gets better. We recently found a place that supports local farmers and we get a huge box of fruit and veggies for 5.00. Helpful, best corn on the cob I've had in a long time! I've also been cleaning my space. It does feel so much better!! I always appreciate your thoughts and information. Eat healthy! Stay healthy!

Don’t start using insulin unless you are a type 1 diabetic or you’ve tried other medications to control your blood sugar. You should try meds like metformin or Monjouro first. Monjouro has worked great for me. Blood sugar down from the high 100’s down to 80-90. Weight down from 270 to 200. Just my opinion, not medical advice.

Intermittent fasting is the way to go for everyone. We need to give our bodies a longer rest than we've been doing in order for it to repair itself. Even the Bible says we are supposed to rest on the Sabbath which means no preparing meals or eating too. Just rest and let your body repair itself.

It is not that simple... He has to train his body and take baby steps... The motivation should be no amputations, no blindness, no heart disease, and no nursing home. That motivation should put fire under his A$$....just saying...

@@Ir-of4zn If you don't understand intermittent fasting then you wouldn't know that this is what it is supposed to help with and it's what everyone should be doing to help heal and prevent problems with their body's health.
Each person needs to find out what level of it fits for them and some may need a doctor to monitor their progress.
Plain and simple. We eat too often and too much. We don't give our bodies enough time to process what we put into and evacuate the waste/toxins before we shovel more into it. So over time we overload the system.

@craigwinans1948 I eat 1x a day. I fast 3 days at the beginning of each month. I eat a clean keto diet. I steam all vegetables. I steam my fish: salmon 2x/week, shrimp, and chicken legs. I juice and eat raw. I take vit. D3 &k2, cod liver oil, Irish Moss seaweed, b complex vitamins in rotation. In fasting, I had to train my body in increments to achieve autophagy. A person must be highly motivated to want to remain disciplined. Yes, I know about intermittent fasting. You could probably learn some things from me.

@@Ir-of4zn What you know is what works for you. That doesn't mean what works for you works for everyone else the same way. I didn't give him a plan to follow. I gave him a direction to look into. Other than basics of 16 to 20 hours of fasting each day (which pretty much everyone can do) he should consult with his doctor so he can monitor his progress which is what anything he looks up on the subject should tell him. Best results are after 24 hours of fasting but that can start putting diabetics at risk and needs monitoring.
My brother knows someone that did 30 days of fasting under a doctors care, constant monitoring and it fixed pretty much all of his ailments. The majority of people can't go that long and should never do it on their own. Healthy people would have no problem with eating one meal day.

Great vid! I've sold some crazy stuff to China. My theory is they're buying up certain vintage items to figure out how to copy them, then mass produce, like Temu.
Anyway, good luck with the diabetes.

Don't be so hard on yourself. As I understand it type 2 is a genetic condition (I'm your age and have had it for 15 years). It's not your fault. You can definitely improve it or make it worse but there's no fault. It's like anything, moderation is your friend. Work with your doc and pay attention to what foods set you off. Everybody is different. Exercise/walking will knock the numbers down too. Medical advice from RUclips comments probably isn't your best plan. Good luck! You'll do great.

Depends what those you tube comments say and what medical advice they give - MANY MANY TIMES they may be more helpful than what the mainstream medical narrative is! Type 2 IS reversible with lifestyle changes.

Keto diet mate, I was on pretty high diabetic medication, now zero meds for a few years. Give yourself a month on the diet, you really don't want to go down the rabbit hole of diabetic medication look at all the side effects. Is disgusting how the American government pretense to help countries like Ukraine when all they doing is lining their own pockets. Most of the money supposed to be going to these countries overseas, are just feed to American weapons manufacturer and the politicians. Cheers Graham.
