    Might I suggest either a layer of batting or fusible fleece in between the layers in order to add a further level of protection, this time thermal. Some people can have really sensitive skin. You can keep most of the bulk out of the seam allowance just by doing a little bit of fabric grading or trimming.

    • @Lindavideos
      @Lindavideos  Год назад +1

      Thank you for the great suggestion, especially about keeping bulk out of the seams. Can't remember if I talked about having an additional layer. I hope I did but my apologies if not. That's the great thing about making your own. You can decide what works best for your needs. Some people don't like the additional weight or even the stiffness that might come from fusible fleece. I think batting is a nice option, too.

    Linda, this is the first video of yours I have watched, but now am subscribed. :-) I am 65 years old and have sewing since I was 10 years old. You give very good instructions and do not drag things out. (I love that). I wished I would have seen this video when my mom was in the nursing home. I would have made some really cute ones for her. My 75 year old brother was here for Thanksgiving this past weekend and he said something about wanting a bib. That's why I did this search. He says he needs it in the car while traveling. He does alot of hunting, so I got some camoflague material for the front and a solid brown for the other side. They are both flannel for the winter. When spring gets here, I will make him a cotton one also. I would love to order your template, but don't believe I will have enough time to order and make it before we leave for the south for the winter. I'm going to try and make my own and we'll see how that works out. LOL Thanks so much. Will definitely be watching for more of your videos and will look back at your past ones also. Have a Merry Christmas. Sue

    • @Lindavideos

    If using PUL, can it be put in the dryer and can it be ironed if using it between fabrics?

    • @Lindavideos
      @Lindavideos  2 года назад

      I wouldn't recommend either - PUL doesn't handle heat well. If you're going to use an iron or put these in the dryer, I'd go for the more durable fabrics like cotton, denim - even recycled clothing.

  • @marthahumphrey3849

    What could one use instead of the PUL? Would an all cotton fleece suffice?

    • @Lindavideos
      @Lindavideos  2 года назад +1

      Lots of options! It really depends on the need. If using these at a seafood cookout, your need is different than for someone that is handicapped or in a nursing home. PUL, like laminated fabric is meant to be a barrier to keep clothes from getting wet or dirty. With PUL, you've got to be more cautious, it's more expensive and there aren't as many fabric choices. I really like recycled clothing - blue jeans, flannel button downs, etc. If they are more lightweight, add a layer of cotton in between. You could use fleece, Just decide if you need it to be absorbent. Similar rules apply for making these as when making baby bibs so check out so of the many options available. Have fun!

    As a 30yo woman with a progressive medical condition I have come to the very difficult decision that I now need a bib as I am struggling to swallow my saliva more and more, with the frequency of these episodes increasing. Your video was suggested as I was searching to see which type would be the best for me, and as I was a sewer until recently I thought this could still give me some insight. It definitely did, but not the kind I expected, not at all...
    As you can imagine needing a bib at 30 is a very tough thing to get your head around, especially when you are fully aware of people perceptions on the matter, and gradualy watching your body failing day by day. I thought your video looked interesting, and maybe, just from a sewing asoect it is. Yet within 25 seconds you've referred to those needing bibs as "slobs" twice and within 37 seconds "just as, a mess."
    In the next breath you acknowledge that it's difficult for the person needing the bib which is why you suggest using your own clothes so "wearing a bib doesn't have that negative connotation." You mean the connotation that wearing a bib is embarrassing and makes you look like a slob or a mess? Or so you can eat you lobsters or whatever without looking like a disabled person? Because anyway you read into that statement, there is no positive meaning.
    Around the ten minute mark you refer to how they're making a "mess" again, and that is my limit. I am done with this video and cannot watch anymore. I wouldn't normally comment when I dislike a video, but this? This is extremely offensive and rude beyond belief, and you need to be told, by somebody who would be using the bib, how you are actually coming across, and it is in no way, shape, or form, acceptable nor appropriate.
    I am generally am not someone who gets annoyed or upset by people using incorrect terminology, however I think on this occassion you should know how massively offensive and upsetting you were, to the point that I did actually cry despite my thick skin. If you want older children, teens, adults, and the elderly etc, to stop feeling the negative connotations associated with needing to wear a bib, then for a start maybe do even the tiniest bit of research, because you are currently going about it in the complete wrong way with your terminology alone adding to the stigma those in my position face every single day.

      Sorry for the confusion! You can use PUL for the adult bib but PUL fabrics tend to be 'kiddy' looking. If you have a disabled adult that likes the fabric options, then it works great. It also feels more like a bib and that's a bit off-putting to adults.

    I hate the way you refer to people who may need these adult bibs as slobs and its awful the way you talk about children as being 'just a mess'
    Evidently most people who come looking for an adult bib are looking for a loved one who has some issues or problems. It can ne very difficult for relatives to watch their loved ones go down hill so much they need a bib so hearing you refer to someone needing one as a slob is upsetting
