  • I take off from Shoreham in the PA28, returning to Biggin Hill. In this film, I speak to the student pilot who experienced a terrifying 'near miss' during his training.

Brilliant video! Was a pleasure chatting and sharing the incident experience with you to help show others how close it can get!

I'd read about that Airprox the other day but hadn't seen the video until now. Pure 😳 moment. Incredible reactions from that instructor.
Other than that - another quality video, and partly inspired by you I'm starting my IR(R) at EGNX next Sunday :)
    All the best!

Just an update about the flight to White Waltham, it is now taking place on Friday 18th. My departure from Wellesbourne will be at 8am, with a 38min flight. And will be leaving at around 1pm. I hope you can make it, would love to meet you and share stories :D
    All the best,

Very well produced video Jon, like usual! Also, I've recently started my PPL training (7 hours in, currently doing circuits) and was wondering if you had any tips or advice you would give to new pilots? Cheers!

You don't stop learning, is probably the biggest tip. You might think you know it all when you've got your PPL. I didn't learn how to land a plane properly until about 2 years after getting my license! Keep a good lookout - always!

That near miss was too close for comfort. Is there any plan for ADS-B in the UK? I have had it for over a year now and while it doesn’t eliminate the need for “eyes outside” it does provide a significant margin of safety and traffic awareness. I enjoy your videos.

Thanks. There's no mandate yet for us, but the regulator has indicated that it's the preferred future of conspicuity. We have a mixed bag of conspicuity at the moment.

Just curious, have you ever flown into Wycombe? Started my PPL there, now finishing it off at Newquay.

    • @TheFlyingReporter

No. Wycombe scares me! All those videos for the different joins.

The Flying Reporter Yeah, it can be hugely busy and very intimidating at times.

I would encourage you to come to Wycombe Jon! it is one of the best GA airfields in the UK (although I am bias as I fly from there!) The mix of fixed wing, intensive gliding activity as well as a rotary operations makes for a fun fly in and once you can fly here, nowhere is intimidating! I actually live closer to Elstree but prefer the level of professionalism and handling at EGTB. Would be great to buy you a coffee! Keep the videos going!

Would be difficult - the Biggin Hill airshow will make movements in and out tricky that day.
