I asked a curtain making business in a strip mall near me if they could make up some cushions and pillow slips/covers for me using their scrap curtain materials. Next time I went in there, they had a whole range of pillow covers, cushion covers etc. using their own scraps. This was back in the early 80's. It kind of surprised me at the time they weren't using those quarter yard scrap bits and pieces from curtains. The lacy sheer curtain scraps made some pretty ruffles or "faux" covers for pillows, for example.
That’s awesome, it’s great way to use up all your resources and save money, I don’t get why people/companies think it’s better to just throw them away, you’re basically throwing money away.
Спасибо большое за ваш труд, вы настоящая рукодельница я не пропускаю ни одного вашего видео мне очень нравиться то что вы делаете. Конечно же ставлю Лайк.
My favourite was the sheer fabric that you "quilted" with the fabric scraps inside. I thought it would be terrible but how wrong I was! Great ideas as I have a several piles of scraps just waiting for me to come up with some bright ideas.....
Very good ideas to reduce waste. I especially LOVE the jeans. Another use of scraps that I do is to make bias tapes of multi-colors and patterns, looks great on throw pillows, placemats, etc.
ok, thing to remember when making a pillow with scraps is that it will also make it VERY lumpy, so if you don't mind that go on ahead. IF you do, i suggest that you put a low loft batting cut about 1/4" smaller that your cloth all the way around ( or more depending on how much seam allowance you want), this will help with the "lumpy" factor. i do make these just as described, with the dimentions pf 19"x 14.5" & 24" x 19" and 3-4" gaps and don't use a batting sew them up with and invisible ladder stitch, and give them to my local vet. dogs/cats don't care if they are lumpy.
Thank you for the tip, I realized after that I does make the pillow lumpy I made a couple for my lining room and I have to adjust the insides all the time but the next time I make them I’m gonna try your method, thank you!
I agree. Also I prefer scrap fabric projects that show off my fabric rather than hiding it inside something. I know some people cut up their tiny scraps so small that it's almost down-like and use it to stuff toys, pin cushions etc.
Hi: you are great, like all of this, I'm a 72 year old sewer but can still learn from people like you. Those jeans are awesome. One thing I came up with was making throw pillows out of clean, almost new place mats from the thrift store, I also make cloth handbags with them. God Bless.
Wow, the quilting is extremely beautiful! My favourite way to use scraps and old clothing is to stuff draught excluders - I live in an old house in Scotland and they make a big difference to the temperature inside the house!
Great video! Thanks for all the tips. I just started a small brand in Uruguay and needed ideas for my scraps! I mostly focus on size inclusivity and affordability, which is really important for the people here, BUT that does mean I’m using synthetic fibres a lot and I don’t want it to end up in landfill!!! ♻️♻️♻️
I run a small zero waste business called Reincarnated Crafts and also keep all my offcuts! Thin strips work really well to make scrappy bunting, just cut into a pieces about 2cm x 8-10cm, no not to be precise at all. The the pieces to a length of string or cord, 2m is good to use around the home or on a Christmas tree! The smallest scraps I just chop up and use to fill hanging ornaments much like with your cushion stuffing. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this great video. It's heart warming to know people like you are trying their best to improve and care for the planet. Some of the comments you have received are nonsensical, you are appreciated, keep up the good work ❤
i use scraps for filling plushies that i make n other stuff- but i like the quilted one u did w the chiffon/tulle-like material ! a whole blanket w that would be cool- or as a tapestry kinda thing
Did you make that top out off scraps too? I have a fudhnet just laying around used it for my kids toys to hang on the wall but now i think i might make that too you have on
In my village in India they use old saree to make quilts. Earlier all the teaching used to be done by hand by womenfolk in the house. Then someone commercialized and these women would go home to home, the household used to give them all their old used clothes+ sarees and the would take a small fees and make a quilt by hand for you in a day. Nowadays they use sewing machines to stitch it up. One of the most softesr and breathable quilts that can be
I just started sewing, mostly because I see so many cool fabrics in thrift shops and yard sales and want to turn them into something else, or Frankenstein pieces of otherwise ruined cloths into something cool. I think I'll start saving my scraps and eventually use them to make a bed for my dog! Do you know if there's any way to add volume or "fluff up" bits of fabric? Great video!
I keep all of my bigger scraps to one day make a big "memory quilt". The really small pieces I collect in a bag and whenever it is full I give it to a friend who is a kindergarden teacher so she can put it in the creative room for the children to use in their creativitiy when crafting etc. I feel that's a win win, because nothing gets wasted and the children have more different materials to use and experiment. And also: crafting materials are expensive!
I don't have a lot to money to buy a lot of supplies. A lot of my projects come from old clothes donated clothes blankets sheets etc. It's a way to turn something old into new. Especially with diy.

What are you using for fabric weights? I've not started sewing yet other than for testing stitch specs when I can find a spec. to compare with. I've only been learning the sewing machine restore to rescue some free machines... that turned into investing in a few treadle machines (and one hand crank grinder for a DIY hand crank conversion) for off the grid use, now totaling 45 machines. Seems neat and I'm looking forward to sewing some projects with fabric I've purchased and sourced from the Goodwill Stores to re-purpose. Getting closer to sewing some projects at least. Thanks for sharing!
New to ur channel ...liked ur ideas...i also do the same from my boutique scraps sach as table mats, cushion covers, doormats ....etc ...thanks for sharing ur idea....liked & subscribed 👍
great ideas! i used some scraps to make patchwork cushions and pillows, used more scraps as filling, also smaller scraps and rests of yarn and thread to fill fabric stuffed animals. i use them to give as gifts, specially baby gifts. i always have a couple of them around for such an occasion! totally unrelated but i love your crochet top, did you make it yourself? keep on the good work, new subscriber here!
That’s amazing, I’ll definitely have to try that! And thank you but no I didn’t make my top, Im learning to crotchet Im obsessed with it but I haven’t been practicing enough I will one day get there.
I sew all my own clothes and have a ton of scraps. I want to make a Japanese style futon sleeping mat for when my little son comes crying in the night.
Hi Ron, thanks for tips, also what brand of sewing machine u're using eventually can sew so many thick fabrics. Anyhow that handy scissor hanging around your neck is not safe. Lol. Cheers
I’m using a a brother sewing machine that I got really cheap at Walmart it not the best mine had just broke and got this one for the time being till I could a afford a better one but I highly recommend the singer heavy duty home machine. I hav en ever had any problems with my little scissors before, it comes with a leather cover I put on it sometimes but one can only hope nothing tragic actually happens😂
Thank you! I made them from scrap pieces of metal my dad had but if u go to hard wear store I’m sure I can find some cheap pieces of metal and just cover them with fabric
Hello mam i want to give a business look for that scrap.. Can you tell me how can i make it from home . If I will making posters like "give me your waste clothe scrap I give you best products made from it ".what do you think . This idea can work and make some profit from it. Just share your opinion mam😊
Do you know easy ways to save scraps from the landfills? I've been able to get unsellably small pieces of fabric from charity shops when I needed them for a charity project (for free) but after that I was denied any, and was told they sell it on to fashion industry folks. Who presumably still bin some of it.
I just save my own scraps or ask friends, family and followers if they ever want to donate anything. But I know of fab scrap in NY where their whole business is saving scraps from brands and reselling it by the pound they have an online shop aswell.
I got the racks for my thread at Michaels craft store, the threads are a collection from my mom and grandma and myself through the years but you can find them at any fabric store, and the peg board I got from the trash of a hardware store.
It's wonderful that you have devoted your time and talent to a zero waste philosophy. The fashion industry needs more people like you!
Thank you I plan to do as much as possible to have a positive impact on the industry and the environment!

I liked the stuffed canvas with straight sewn lines and shredded cuts between the sewn lines. It just looked like a great basis for a sturdy bag.

What a great idea Mary Ann. I have some napkins that I'll never use - I could sew them together and make a cusion. Thanks for the idea :)

So useful video I love it 👍👍
Thanks for this video! Do you have a video on beginners choosing the "right" sewing machine?
Not yet, I feel like there are already so many videos on RUclips that talk about that so I don't think I would have much else to add.
How did you make the weighted pieces, I mean what’s in it? Love your organization in the background 😊

Eco friendly bags,, which can be folded to a small size,,, can be sewn in old curtains.
Nicely explained
I'm not sure what I would do with your second and third ideas. I would make them if I had a use for them.
You could use them as techniques in a garment design and have it in certain areas to make it more unique
I can do this once a month!
(Hair band green )What is the fabric name and Weight ?.. Search buy online
This is a beautiful video How can one run a sustainable fashion in a large and more profitable manner

hi veronicca. first time here. where did you get your thread rack for the large thread cones?
I got it at Michaels craft store!
Beautiful
neat 💐💐💐💐💐💐
Where’d you get the stuff on your wall ? Like the setup and thread?
I got the racks for my thread at Michaels craft store, the threads are a collection from my mom and grandma and myself through the years but you can find them at any fabric store, and the peg board I got from the trash of a hardware store.
Hey, I want those scraps (hahaha!)
Yes I like .
You could have sewed the ends together first, then sew the length, leaving an opening.......easier.
Mam, how to convert old mens track to capri..
Wow you have good property friend.
