  • After years of feeling underwhelmed by the Grant Stone Diesel boot, I have found that with a simple modification of changing the hardware, I am now a huge fan. This video features the Dune CXL and Bourbon Suede makeups.

    Dave you really elevated the look with those eyelets. I’ve always thought the G.S. hardware looked too industrial/mechanical…have only liked certain makeups in their lineup due to that. But man this opens up a lot of possibilities. Those are some stellar highlights on the creases on your suede pair. Thanks for sharing and welcome back good sir!

    Yeah for me I had some issues at first with my GS brass boots in saddle tan but now 8 months later they are my favorite pair.
    I also have the diesel jungle kangaroo, great pair as well.
    I need to get one of their suede models one day. Keep uploading my dude!

      You’ve got some great pairs! That jungle roo one is insanely beautiful. I’ve eyed it many times. And at this point I’m appalled at myself for not copping the saddle tan one yet 😂 It’s like one of my favorite leathers, but I think I have taken its availability for granted haha…Enjoy those!

    Your criticisms of the Grant Stone hardware and pattern/shape mirror my sentiments exactly - glad to hear someone else pointing out these (what i see as) aesthetic issues across the brand.

    I reach for my Diesels a lot. They look great, but it’s their Leo last that really works for me. Very similar to Viberg’s 2020 last. I honestly don’t know I’m wearing boots when I have them on.

    I really hope someone at grant stone watches reviewers videos , great brand but can use a tweak here and there , make a more exciting boot maybe the stitching , shape of the toe box , eye lits , im really wanting a more beefed up diesel boot like a truman , whites , nicks . I would buy more if they can make something like those.

    I agree about their hardware, something about it doesnt jive for me on their boots. I still love the brand and buy them though...I was debating on trying the Edward Boot next time since its slightly more refined.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  7 месяцев назад +1

      Ah yeah that Edward looks slick! I think these two I have helped love them enough to where, like you, I could probably live with the stock hardware if I had to. It’s just such an amazing boot.

      @@thevintagefuture6567 yea after you wear them for a while you don't notice the hardware. I do feel like Im starting to not need speed hooks either. I'd rather just leave the top two eyelets empty and do the ankle wrap around.

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much! And I think these ones didn’t crock cuz I happened to wear them with lighter denim (sanforized natural indigo from NnF) and the denim was already faded a bit 🤷🏽‍♂️ That’s my theory 😄 Also, I didn’t wear them quite as much as some of my other pairs. They’ll come out often once I get to Spring and Summer for sure.

    David thanks for another great video, I absolutely enjoy them. What size did you use for eyelets? Links you posted are for set of grommets, but in the video they look more like eyelets only, although I may be wrong here. I, like you, have a very low instep. I am an 11 D (Brannock) and about a year ago I tried the Diesel Boot in 10.5 D and found that the facings were nearly touching. I was thinking about trying the Diesel Boot in 10 D or 10 E.
    Do you think that would be a wise thing to try or would I most likely be making a mistake by dropping down to that small of a size?

    • @thevintagefuture6567
      @thevintagefuture6567  7 месяцев назад +2

      My facings almost touch too 😄 I would stick with 10.5D. I suppose you could try 10D (free returns) 🤔 Just don’t force it with wishful thinking if it’s jamming your toes at all.

    • @aradoran
      @aradoran 7 месяцев назад +1

      I have the same issue, also 11D wearing 10.5D Grant stones. It’s one of the few boots I have with that issue, them and Alden Indy. I think it’s just their pattern/cut of their quarter panels. I’m strongly considering kilties. Definitely wouldn’t go down to 10D, especially to fit medium weight wool socks.

    • @calebtate6723
      @calebtate6723 7 месяцев назад +1

      Same problem here so I made some thick kilties for mine. Worked to separate the facings a little bit and also make them less “boring” lol
