So wonderful to think that the renovated convent will live on for at least another 300 years! As a Destination Showplace, I happily predict that it is unlikely to be abandoned again!!! I dream of being a guest there, one day. & I am contented with the dream, as I am old & disabled. Nothing is impossible, though! Billy has taught me that!!!!
Absolutely fantastic, well done, letting the building breathe again. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, love watching the Pethericks 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺
It amazes me every time you do dismantling in the convent what all “falls” out! It’s astounding that the mud and straw were the only insulating properties in the building. It’s a shame too that when upgrades were made in the past, they were just piled up, layer on layer of the original building. I like your vision Billy, and I really like how you’ve been filming lately. It lets us see the progress by speeding things up but then you go real time to let us see what effort it is really taking. Kudos Billy!
Whoever put all that garbage and dirt and concrete in that structure should be ashamed of themselves and probably charged those Nuns a fortune. What a shame!
I am hooked on this renovation.. it is so satisfying to see the its charm and character slowly return, by way of the original features. On top of that, with modern technology and tastefully furnished the Convent will be an asset to the town.
I typically don’t like seeing renovators rip out the old but in this case it seems justified. Billy - thank you for including us in your thought process as you work through the renovations.
It is amazing how the liitle pieces of wood managed to hold that amount of dirt up for so long, it is mind boggling it really is. It is lovely watching Billy do what he loves to do, getting stuck in with the dirty jobs and not being on the sidelines, mind you I bet Simon was glad he didn't have to take the ceiling down 😂 Loving the videos as always Billy, thank you for allowing us to follow your journey with the convent. Love to you all xxxx
Billy, great way to show the removal of the ceiling in this episode! It’s a lot of work but progress is being made with each day, truly a labor of love by all! Your vision is amazing. We need more historical rescues. This world is too quick to destroy its history. Krystyna in Wisconsin
For what it's worth Billy, I completely agree with the approach to bedrooms. I was concerned (on your behalf) about how much money it would take for a totally stripped back reno AND making the rooms cosy/ventilated and relatively easy to clean. Makes total sense to leave the historical provenance for the communal areas.
What an interesting find, mud and straw" patties" from the ceilings, now taking down after 250 years. What a history lesson, of how buildings were maded back in time and remained standing until this day, is remarkable! Thank you Billy, for explaining how the Covent was build...from the past.😊
I am so glad to see all of you hard-working men wearing hardhats and face masks! Whenever I have had to clean up a Dusty, dirty work area, I dampen my broom a little to cut down on airborne particles
From Detroit, now living and loving watching Billy from Belize (weather definitely better here!)

@@karenwilkinson5923, I bet the weather is beautiful in Belize. I would love to find out one day. Coming into Winter soon here in Detroit. Not looking forward to that. I LOVE watching Billy, too!
dirt insulation was a new concept for me, Had never seen the like till I saw it in the convent. Quite an upgrade on insulation etc from 200 years ago. We should be grateful of those upgrades. Have you thought of putting that dirt in a spacific spot in the garden behind the convent instead of the local garbage tip? I keep wondering if its still viable to grow things or what seeds are already in that dirt. What ever it would be is instantly vintage or heritage because of the age. Best Wishes
They have been putting it in the gardens around the convent. Go back to some of the older videos. The lathes are taken to the chateau and burned in the furnace. The oak beams as well to see what they can use them for in the future. They recycle everything they can and get rid of the rest. They have done an amazing job of recycling.
I love watching Mr. Petherick as he sorts the rubble. My generation would just throw it all away…he sees a use for it and takes the time to make it happen.
There are plenty of ecologically sensitive younger people in the US, I would assume they exist in every country. It’s a shame that so many are lazy or just simple-minded.
I am very happy to see the use of dust masks. I know they are uncomfortable but they do protect your lungs. My brother was a rough and finish carpenter. He dies due to lung disease.
Sounds like a great plan to keep the bedrooms simple but still beautiful 😍 love that idea. What about, on every floor there is a communal living room area. With a fireplace, lounges, small table & chairs, & t.v etc & maybe tea & coffee making facilities. That way the bedrooms & ensuites are able to be kept to a minimum. Just a thought!
WOW! That boggles the mind on how much dirt/mud/rocks they use for insulation. I like how you fill us in on how much you think you have removed. Billy, are you logging this somewhere to do an estimated total at the end of the renovations?
I’m sure you will all be grateful when the demo work is completed. It could take some time but it will be worth it! Buy a convent they said, tear out the internal structure, they said…it will be fun😂! Amazing work gentleman
Any length of wood placed between two fixed points will bow down at the centre over time, that's just physics and not necessarily a symptom of it being unsafe if the wood is still sound in itself.
Billy, you mentioned once before that if you set the 252 yo dirt out it would grow plants. have you asked any of the are botanists or botany professors if they are interested in studying it? I think it would be interesting to
No wonder the beams are bending, all that dry dirt. Love your dad Billy, reminds me of my father, who is no longer with us. Your next project should be that chateau you showed Rayn about a year ago.
Wouldn't it save time and energy if you used a tarp for all the ceiling debris to fall on? The boys could haul away one, replace with another so you could continue demolition while they empty the tarp, then repeat.
Just thinking about how they got all that mud soil up there in the late 1700’s Billy. They could have only used buckets I am assuming????? It’s an incredible feat but they shouldn’t have bothered as I would rather have been cold in those days if knowing that future people like yourself would have to remove it one day. Such hard and messy work and all of you men are doing a marvellous job as usual.
Wow more tons of debris from the convent. As always love your music 🎶 I bet yanis arms are getting tired the ceiling is looking like it did 100 years ago. It's nice to get all that old dirt out of there. Who knows what's in it
Do not expect anything from that mud for your garden Billy. That ancient soil is complety dead, he represent no quality, no value for your plants. All of this is for the garbage.
In the bedrooms, you should leave the stone wall's exposed as a feature wall. I feel like that would look great, give it the "character", and be less materials.
Curious if any residents from the order of nuns that lives there are watching the channel. Would love to see a reaction video when the building is done.
People using dirt mixed with straw in the ceiling was a way of insulting back in the day cause there was no type of insulation we have today. By the time Billy gets done renovating all the ceilings Mick will have enough kindling to last a life time
Could I make a suggestion that you lay a tarpaulin down on the floor before you pull down the ceiling. Then Yanis can drag it to the window for disposal. Working Smarter not harder.! 😁
You could cover the oak ceiling with plasterboard and use that opportunity to insulate between floors, very essential in bedrooms to not hear the rooms above imo. It can be beautiful in other ways like you said
The stone walls are b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. Would it be possible to keep some of them visible by covering them with glass - like windows to keep the cold out?
some one mentioned eye gear. after spending 5 years recovering from eye surgery, i would say get some eye gear. it's not something you easily get past or ever get over or ever get another chance at .... Edit: and breathing masks ! Billy as an employer you need to be sure these guys are geared up properly. This is where lung problems begin ! Thanks and Love from Nova Scotia :)
Another interesting video what will yanis do once the renovation work is completed would love to see him be part of the convent like head of maintenance or something like that his come along so far from when you started renovations

It would be really interesting to put some of that soil in the greenhouse and see what heirloom plants it sprouts!
Cool idea😮😮❤
That would be interesting…great idea.
That would be fascinating!
I agree. It would be fascinating.

I don’t think what they’re tearing out is necessarily original, old upgrades yes and not very safe or efficient.
I would say for safety it's gotta go
Thank you, Billy. I am really enjoying watching The Pethericks.
You aren’t just giving the town a nice retreat building but also some of its history back. Wonderful job!
Love hearing you ramble on about the convent, Billy. ❤ What an amazing job all of you have done today. See you tomorrow! 🌼

thank you!

I wonder what 250 year old plants will grow from the dormant seeds in the soil🌱amazing.
now that the back field is flat and growing grass, where is the clay going?
Probably horrific weeds ! I once ordered some earth for the garden and months later the most terrible huge invasive weeds grew allover the place !
Incredibly fascinating to see the original inner workings/construction!!
It's a testament to those beam's strength in the convent that they have held up 100s of tons of dirt and concrete!!
That's the beauty of oak over concrete and steel, which is why Notre Dame in Paris has been restored using oak timbers.
3 gentlemen working together so well looking forward to seeing the end product keep up the fantastic jobs you are all doing xxx
Don't think Mick is ever going to run out of kindling in this life time, lol.
Glad to hear the music today ,missed it over the past few days.

I love the time lapse with the sound.
I have a tickle in my throat just watching this. So much dust! Be safe!!
Great work done Billy, backbreaking! I would think even the foundations are breathing a sigh of relief. Stay well all.

Similarly we used to spray the floor with water via a hose pipe to achieve the same effect.
Please hit Like and Subscribe for Billy!! Love from Detroit, Michigan, USA ♥

How rewarding it must be to see the transformation! I like the “instant gratification of the speed up” Thank you
Fantastic job Billy
When a room gains height, it becomes more majestic.
wait till the floor drops....

Saw similar infill called bousillage in Natchez Miss in 1870s building of French construction. Soil mixed with hanging moss, dried like adobe .
The "convention retreat" will be comfortably antique......like Billy when it's through with him.
Hello, Billy, don't forget to plan for a housekeeping cart & closet on each floor, plus laundry & chute closet for sheets for those bedroom suites.
If you put the laundry facilities on each floor, it saves a tremendous amount of work.
@nancyhenry3203 Agrreed, I worked at a "Victorian Inn" hotel with the laundry upstairs and it was a double flight of stairs, no landing.
You fellas really got your work cut out for yourselves…
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Reminds me of all the dirt Ryan found in his house.
It can no longer be claimed that nuns are dirt poor.
I love watching Mr. Petherick as he sorts the rubble. My generation would just throw it all away…he sees a use for it and takes the time to make it happen.

@@kathrynwitte3398 The thing is, buildings like these are as rare as hen's teeth in the USA.
The Building Billy is l❤️ving your Reno - what your doing is basically helping the foundations!
Oh my goodness mick and yanis are troopers.
I am very happy to see the use of dust masks. I know they are uncomfortable but they do protect your lungs. My brother was a rough and finish carpenter. He dies due to lung disease.
❤ your work, Billy 😊🇦🇺 You Yannis and Mick worked hard...I'm exhausted!
I watch your show every day. since day one. I have not missed a show. I'm in love with all of you.

Those old beams must be sighing with relief!
Definitely!
5000 mi away and I'm rubbing my eyes and smelling that old dusty dirt.
That was very interesting to watch, well done to the 3 of you
Yanis works so hard and helps support family back home. It would be nice if he could have a break to go home to see his mother and family.
WOW! That boggles the mind on how much dirt/mud/rocks they use for insulation. I like how you fill us in on how much you think you have removed. Billy, are you logging this somewhere to do an estimated total at the end of the renovations?
Looks like you’re exposing beautiful beams!! All that dirt removed, amazing!
😷🤧 All that dirt even making me sneeze. I'm amazed, well done. Charming Billy 💫

Another great and entertaining video Billy. Pity you didn't have another step ladder for Yan to get his demolition at the same time for that ceiling.
Great time lapses great job boy's 👍🤗👍🤗👍🤗🍻🍻🍻
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Yanis's favourite part of his work at the convent..... demolition!!
By the time you remove all the mud the building is going to float!!
Heavenly.
Any length of wood placed between two fixed points will bow down at the centre over time, that's just physics and not necessarily a symptom of it being unsafe if the wood is still sound in itself.
Yanis is The Machine!!! Love your work ethic Bro! Crack On gang! It’s looking wonderful!!!✌️🤘🇨🇦
This is so satisfying to watch 😍🤩
The convent has to be breathing with release! Wow, this is going to look so great when you’re finished.
When Billy’s face is so dirty at the end of the day his eyes look even more blue.
Billy, you mentioned once before that if you set the 252 yo dirt out it would grow plants. have you asked any of the are botanists or botany professors if they are interested in studying it? I think it would be interesting to
Excited for the bedrooms! They will be absolutely gorgeous ❤
Road Trip on Saturday !!! CRACK ON MATE !!! 😊😊😊
It would be nice to see Yanis working in fast-motion time lapse (teehee).
😂 He would be moving so fast all he would be is a blur!
Insane amount of mud! You and your crew are nothing hort of amazing. Hate to see Rick go.
No wonder the beams are bending, all that dry dirt. Love your dad Billy, reminds me of my father, who is no longer with us.

Wow that ceiling was ready to fall down. Hugs from ny
Love Yanis at high speed😂😂
At this rate, you'll have my room ready in NO time 😉
With all that dirt you could make your own 14000ft mountain. Mt Petherick.

Getting rid of some of the spooky! Nice work!
You were lucky to have a nice cross-breeze to clear the dust out so quickly.
Use a canvas tarp to drop on 😊next time the clean up will be easier.
The theme song for this project should be: "You load 15 tons and what do you get? Another day older, and deaper in debt!"
Wow more tons of debris from the convent. As always love your music 🎶 I bet yanis arms are getting tired the ceiling is looking like it did 100 years ago. It's nice to get all that old dirt out of there. Who knows what's in it

They don’t grow trees like they used! Old growth beauties.
Amazing work...
Billy, I think you need more trash bags! Lol
Do not expect anything from that mud for your garden Billy. That ancient soil is complety dead, he represent no quality, no value for your plants. All of this is for the garbage.
There may well be seeds encased in the dried mud which could indeed germinate. Worth an experiment or two.
You just cleaned it up! What a pain the demo phase is.

It's coming on lovely 👍😘
You could cover the oak ceiling with plasterboard and use that opportunity to insulate between floors, very essential in bedrooms to not hear the rooms above imo. It can be beautiful in other ways like you said
250-years from now, someone will remove your 'new' insulation and wonder what it was.
Dusty hard work, but must be done. You guys will need 2 showers 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Billy, get your shelf a hay pitch fork, to separtate the wood from the mud/muck from the cealing easier.
The stone walls are b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. Would it be possible to keep some of them visible by covering them with glass - like windows to keep the cold out?
The Chateaux plumbing must be outstanding to cope with everything you all put it through 😅
Them are over engineered rock and dirt noggins, remember?
just love how you get to the bare bones of it all, Billy ❤
Mark one square meter of ceiling and one square meter of floor removal. How much does it weigh per square meter total. 🤔
Place "1772" near an entry.
In America the spelling is 'tons' different than tonnes.
Love watching your progress.
tonne is 2200lbs and a ton is 2000lbs i think 🤔 i can’t even remember what to call a back splash so don’t hold me to it
