But, for the record, there's more than one.
All I can say to this is…. Word….
@@xcomfortablynumb83x I hope dementia doesn't happen to any of you all.
In a magazine, fans were asked to interpret the lyrics, and Thom himself rated their interpretations. This one was rated 11/10 by Thom.
"The song is about the merging of life and death and getting past your mistakes. Yorke questions what comes in the afterlife. The waterfall represents moving on to the next world, and when he sees the light he thinks he may have seen death. but then he realizes there is a future and that he wants to live life to the fullest."
Briliant! Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for taking the time to post this, you are a star. ⭐️
Such a cool idea. Today we have the repetitive "read tweets" and "read what people search..." boring ass segments.
The highest praise I saw Thom York give a song was how to disappear completelynand never be found. He said it was the best Radiohead songm
That is an amazing interpretation! Knowing Thom though, he could have either given it a 11/10 as a joke or if it was better than whatever he could come up with.
Me and my best friend in Highschool used to use this song to test the bass in all of our cars. We destroyed a lot of speakers with this song, Ill always remember driving around blasting this song
That must've been fun
Best response//idea for this song…. If I had a car with a decent system I would have done that…
You banged your best friend to this song?
Fucking nice dude
I’m 61 yrs old and still blast this shit in my car .. all the coins in the door handle buzzing around and drinks vibrating out of the cups!

please people stop using underrated when you do not understand its meaning. radiohead bassist is known and recognized as a great musician by everyone with a brain

thom yorke played the bass on that record hehe
Absolutely
@@mathieuavisse4623ya but he in let down so undrrated
Frontman Thom Yorke said in a 2001 interview; The song really comes as much from what my long-term partner Rachel was saying to me, like she does all the time, "Be proud of what you've done. Don't look back and just carry on like nothing's happened. Just let the bad stuff go." When someone's constantly trying to help you out and you're trying to express something really awful, you're desperately trying to sort yourself out and you can't - you just can't. And then one day you finally hear them - you finally understand, after months and months of utter fucking torment: that's what that song is about."
This is so sad in the context of life events and “true love waits”. Rachel was a a great person and really helped thom become thom in countless ways
And they try to wipe out the existence of pop is dead
Cannot believe that the critics said that Amnesiac was a inferior copy of Kid A/worse than Kid A. Fuck that, Amnesiac is awesome. Such a brilliant, magical, innovative, diverse, wonderful album. Amnesiac is so underrated.
Well, it was. It was a more "mainstream friendly" version of Kid A.
Kid A and Amnesiac both are way beyond their time..... Most people with an inferior understanding of life just don't get it.... Which makes me glad I'm one of the intelligent people in this world
@@johnathonfann7911 I mean Kid A and Amnesiac are considered classic albums of the 2000's. I think almoat every music publication out there has named Kid A as the best recording of the aforementioned decade - with In rainbows and Amnesiac also being included. They're all far from "underrated" albums.
I think Kid A is much better than amnesiac, but that doesn't make amnesiac bad at all, still a great album!
ok ok, I like your enthusiasm!

@@lazy_hiker_guy I agree. Lol.
Totally agree with you, best part about this amazing song
3:53 to 4:25 is one of the reason I think Radiohead is one of the greatest bands of all time. You don't really hear such sounds in other peoples music.
i'm just gonna go ahead and say this because i am probably the only one that thinks this or knows about them since i am a spanish speaker, but there is one band that i can think of that does unorthodox things like that as well. and as it turns out, i too consider them one of the best bands i've ever seen live or listened to. if you listen to some of cafe tacuba's music their sounds jump from genre to genre, but some of their arrangements remind me of radiohead. listen to "encantamiento inutil" (a song for 9/11 tragedy) or to their instrumental track "intro" to "piedras verdes" soundtrack. their is one underlying similar fact that i find to great bands and it is that they have studied and understand music. two of the members of radiohead do in fact know how to read music. many of today's bands have been influenced by nirvana, who as you would know, proved that you didn't have to understand music to be rock legends. it brought some good but it has also brought bad music. anyways... i'm not necessarily saying you will like cafe tacuba because i understand their music is not for many. but your statement made me realize the connections. you should also listen to "andamios" "camino y vereda" and "reves" by cafe tacuba to understand their range of influence and style arrangements.
migol1984 thats the guys that did one of the songs for Little Big Planet right? Love that song, truly awesome!
GreenBurgerTimeLime yes! those are the guys. "volver a comenzar" is one of their more accessible songs. that record the song came on is my least favorite album, although i do enjoy that song and a few others off of that album.
I will probably look in to that band more in depth when i have time! Cheers!
Listen to a band called Flotation Toy Warning, and their album Bluffers Guide to the Flight Deck. One of the most amazing and artistic albums I've ever heard almost every sound is unexpected and unique
Probably the best bass riff ever written, so addictive.
I think you are confusing guitar with bass
This song is a masterpiece. It gets richer and richer the more and louder I listen. There is not a weak spot in the song. I might be wrong, but this might be Radiohead's best song.
Yea that's what I noticed about Radiohead songs lately is that the songs that I personally find Boring turns out to be good and it gets more richer the more I listen to them it's really weird
Almost double klicks as everything in its right place
@licansen3331 That's a mark of good music. I'm quoting from the show Loudermilk, a character says, "If it doesn't sound right first time, that's because our brains haven't aligned to it yet". If something sounds great at a first listen then it's probably formulaic and not very inventive or imaginative.
@@erinwilson2169 Interesting point. If true, this explains my reaction to Mumford & Sons. I was blown away the first time I heard them. But the more I heard, the quicker I got bored. Mumford & Sons now sounds like commercial real estate to me.
I always find myself coming back to this song.
Same, it seems to have a recurring appropriateness
I'm back after not listening to this in a year

It's ageless and beautiful.
Every time I tune my guitar down to Drop D I am forced to start playing this! Anybody else with me? It's just an automatic response to tuning down by ear. Such a powerful riff!
This song is the reason to listen to Amnesiac more often
this, Pyramid Song, Life in a Glasshouse and You and Whose Army are the reasons i listen to Amnesiac pretty often
Do people really dislike Amnesiac? I thought it's a really good album
Same here
Push/Pulk Revolving Doors.
Knives Out
Amnesiac is an often forgotten album, being released after the waves made by Kid A. But man, that guitar riff has got to be one of the most unforgettable guitar riffs ever made.

3:11 where haunting sound starts that shows all the scene of your life passes in front of your eyes, when you going to face to death and thom simply says “ keep it moving “, this part burns me down
Radiohead music helps me tune out of mundane thoughts and enter my seek-for-the-meaning mode.
They’re todays goat philosophers, our Nietzsche
I agree with you
Radiohead is just amazing, giving off vibes like wanting to gouge your eyeballs out while simultaneously enjoying yourself thoroughly
that's because they're all love songs and that's what a lot of relationships are like. Agony and ecstasy and all that.
👍

So true. Radiohead is seriously one of the best bands ever
Gouge Away. You can gouge away. Stay all day if you want to.

I’m a huge fan of Radiohead and like many of their songs. I think this one is one of their absolute best. The repetitive guitar riff loop is both haunting and hypnotizing. They continue to make great music with every album.
It’s so addicting to play over and over it’s like bluesy yet grungy and flicking the low e string feels great

Pssst...listen to "Looking from a Hilltop" by Section 25. That's the song Thom ripped off for this track.
Imagine how good a From The Basement version of this song could have been...
My friends have been showing their music for the past month or so and it is disappointing none of them like Radiohead. Not to sound pretentious (which I totally am) but Radiohead just has this ethereal quality to it that feels so much more meaningful and impactful than other bands, lyrically, and even more musically.
Its your opinion, so f the pretentious talk. Its not our fault Radiohead wails.
radiohead means lyrical perfection. I am always stunned, again and again and again and again
this isnt what people refer to when they talk about the pretentious radiohead fan. a reply in these comments said they were so glad they were so much smarter than people so they can actually get the emotional impact of radiohead. now that is pretentious

I fucking love the way the haunting sound stops at around 00:36, really a magical moment. I'm so glad and thankful that Marion Cotillard introduced me to this band. ❣️
Best part of the song
1:54 bass line, is so funk, my mind works to understand the relationship between bass and guitar, it's so beautiful...
The second chorus, with thom singing an octave above or whatever, is just wow!
Probably assisted vocally by Ed.
I listened to this song so many times and it just kind of passed me by. And then one day, I was obsessed. Now it's easily one of my favourites. What a track.
Yep same here. The first album I bought from them was I might be wrong live performances, and this song was one of my favs off the album (Love true love waits, spinning plates, idiotique and I might be wrong). I then took a long break from radiohead, until a recent semi heart break pushed me into youtube path. And this video popped up and I never heard the studio version which is different from the live one (both are great) and I fell in love with Radiohead once more.
23 years later there is no future at all. thank you thom yorke.
bass and guitars are just perfect in these song, unbelievable lines in all of the song.
Ms greenwood raised some talented boys they might have a future in the music industry

Paul Jensen this is the funniest thing I've read all week
Yet again Radiohead proves they are ahead of their time.
Shammo Hamid pretty sure dabbing was a thing even before Radiohead did it
Best ending ever.
Apart from the outro of Standing Here by The Stone Roses.
It’s the fucking best
i dont want to live without them. without thom...
This was one of the first songs I heard by Radiohead that wasn't Creep. I was in 7th grade, it blew my mind and changed my life.
when I listen to this particular radiohead track I feel like I'm hallucinating at a funeral. in the rain. on cloudy weather. magnificent composition.
Possibly my favorite band. Def favorite modern band. Those that find Radiohead depressing, sorry you don't get it. But it's not depressing to me. It actually uplifts me because I find their melodies and ryhtyms so moving makes me want to dance. I think haunting music that wakes u up is way more inspiring than overly happy music
Some people just can't handle honesty...so they label it depressing...and then go back to there waking dream
How about Street Spirit, How to Dissapear, Nice Dream, Exit Music, Last Flowers, You and Whose Army? Some of them are depressing, some of them are uplifting (ex. Weird Fishes or Let Down). It's not about we're not getting it.
Wow you're so elevated
That's just what I can't handle though. The honesty, the truth. He knows what darkness is, and creation is his escape, like music is ours
But i can't feel happy when yorke himself takes depression as a tool of creation. So maybe i'm just not strong enough, but really, the message is understood, that i guarantee
there's a time and place for certain types of music. if im in the mood for Radiohead, I'll listen to them. most of the time I want something less intense and happier to suit my mood.
The ending of this song is what always gets me. It’s just so, beautiful in an intriguing way. This song is a masterpiece for its time.
Think about the good times and never look back .......
.
In my opinion, this is the best Radiohead song. Like imagine riding down the road at night with people who actually like you, whilst this song is playing and the windows are down and everyone is just vibing. Damn I wish I had friends that are chill like that

If you like this song, in particular 3:53 onwards, you may enjoy John Frusciante's solo work, especially his earlier albums up to ~2001. Both are very similar in style - minimalistic and haunting.
According to reports, Thom Yorke has drawn upon influence from Fruciante in some of his songs. And if you're already a fan of Frusciante, it's interesting to hear his views on Radiohead - he was not a fan of their earlier work but now considers himself to be an admirer of their music.
