The best of the best videos I have ever used before. This man is a pro, he focuses on the smallest of details(others leave out the small details thus leaving you stranded).
Thanks for the comment! I wondered if this video was too long winded, glad it was helpful
And the award for best instructional video on the internet goes to....... you. Great job. I have the exact same mower and my drive belt broke. Watched your video several times. I was able to do it myself. Thank you so much for putting up the time and effort it took to video yourself.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad the video helped!!
Great video!!!...I was able to put my buddy's lower drive belt back on(it slipped off one of the pulleys... "keeper pulley" when he tried to jump a tree root(think deck pushed up on lower drive pulley and forced it off.
One thing I discovered...you mentioned the most slack in the lower belt came when you put the gear shifter in park. Actually, I discovered you get even more slack in lower drive belt when you have a buddy push the clutch pedal all the way in. With clutch pedal fully down, I could slip lower belt over all the pulleys (ie keeper pin pulley was one that belt jumped off of) with all the pulleys stlll fully mounted. So, I was able to re-attach lower belt(that jumped a pulley without removing cutting deck. Just had to remove rear mower covers to see where lower belt had jumped...then removered keeper pin for that pulley, the slipped belt over it when cluth pushed to floor.
Thanks for great video :)
Amazing, step by step. I couldn't figure out how to get that lower belt on. Thank you.
Awesome! I'm so glad it was helpful, thanks for commenting
Job, well done!
Awesome video with superb details. Thanks for sharing your repair. My TB30R is on its third summer cutting grass. A great machine from Troy-Bilt.
When my unit has the same problem your unit had I'll be ready. I've got my belts, and thanks to you, the repair video to follow.
You rock! 👍
Terry D.
Thanks for commenting, glad the video is helpful!
I got 2013 Murray version with 24 inch cut deck.Plotting changing the belts…definitely looks like fun.Layout looks basically the same.
I had the TB 30 for 6 years. I sold it back to the 1st owner ( he's getting up in age) and it looked as good as the day it was new. I've been watching your videos for a few years now and followed what you've done and had awesome results. Thanks again Peter, I bought a husqvarna rz5424 zero turn which I like as well as the TB 30. I'll stay subscribed and will continue to watch!
ALSO , THE CLEAREST, PRECISE AND FULLY EXPLAINED VIDEO BOTH IN PIX & FUNCTION OF THE MECHANICALS. GREAT JOB
Okay, I'm on board with a shout out to you for this video!! You really straightened me out. I wasted a day trying not to do things, that you showed me had to be done. I finally, dropped the main pully and saw how I must loosen the other 2 pulleys. After this video, I was 100 % positive my belts, were the correct ones and also on the correct pulley.
So, when I was all completed, and my mower wouldn't start (Acting like dead battery) I was convinced nothing, you and I did was off.
So further troubleshooting (Battery fuse okay) on my part found that the switch sensor on the bed I dropped and cleaned, was not installed correctly. Again, thank you I was sure it was something like this. The rest of the story goes like this. She backed out of the Driveway, went into gear, and worked better than ever! Yes, I had to use a makeshift crowbar, and man handle the impact bolt, but once it broke free, it was easy after that thanks to you and your very detailed and well explained video. I appreciate you having taken the time. I only hope my reinstalling the same bolt with the RFT method holds good for awhile.
:)
Great job! I'm glad the video helped
Thanks so much so much for your help. I am on my third set of belts. I used the right part number and ordered belts. Part numbers mean nothing to ebay and amazon. Your video is great. I have extra top drive belts. Now to readjust the clutch when I get the right belts.
This was one of the best "How to" videos EVER! Thank you for the detailed step by step process.
I'm glad it was helpful. Thanks for commenting
I just took a victory lap on my mower. Thank you so much for this great video. I tried asking some local mower places to repair my craftsman’s R1000 but they all declined. After I found your video I decided to give it a try. Great job on the details and video. I got the parts from sears parts online and they are all basically MTD parts. The lower drive belt is about 1/8” too long so the mower is a little slower. But at least I can mow the lawn again. Again thanks for taking the time to document this.
Fantastic! Thanks for commenting and well done, it's not an easy job!
Excellent very well done attention to detail camera work is the best anyone could do. The belt drawing you did cleared up what couldn’t be shown on video
Thanks a million, just finish replacing all 3 belts and motor pulley, on my Craftsman 30-inch deck. I saved money by doing it myself. Parts only $135.00. Thanks for a great video, making this possible.
Awesome! Thanks for commenting, I'm so glad the video helped
I just want to thank you so much you saved me so much time. God bless you
Parts list @ 22:30. Thanks Peter! 👍
I have a craftsman r1000 lawn mower and this video showed me that mine was missing an extension spring for the brake pedal assembly , I caught a glimpse of it when you were removing the drive pulley, I have been having trouble with the brake pedal not fully returning so I ordered up the spring wish me luck. Sincerely James.
Thank u. Just did all belts and the steering rack on my 17 troy bilt
Mr. Demond, I’m from Jacksonville, I own this Mower. Thanks for the training!
I'll bring my mower tb30 to your house to replace my other 2 belts (uppers). Great video, thanks . From Orlando
Thanks for commenting but no don't bring your mower to me!!😂
Mr Dymond good to see you back and still making these TB30r videos .
I am having the same issue with my mower as well and will be using this video as my source information to replace the drive belts thank you again for such detailed videos this give me an advantage and strategy as to how to approach this task; again thank for this much needed information .
Long video but a lot of important information. Thanks. Alsome job.👍🏾
so, what i learn in your video is there are a total of 3 belts on the tb30r 2 DRIVES + 1 BLADE BELT IS THAT CORRECT?
Yes, 3 belts
Great video. superb camera work.
This was a big help to me, thank you for sharing!!!
I'm so glad the videos helped!

"Chinesium"... cheap metal. Love it.
Greatly appreciate the detail.
Worth watching the entire video.
Well done, mate!
Very meticulously documented....just did mine on my TB30 and it is a little nightmare...turn the tractor on its side to do it the eaasy way with steering wheel propped on folding chair...great job,,in Jacksonville too on the westside. I repair mowers for folks and occasionally will flip one i find and repair. No HOA!!
Did you drain the oil before putting the mower on its side? I'm curious to know if there are any issues from doing this? Thanks for the comment
no..turn the mower on the oil filler side. Then I let it sit for 15 minutes or so to let oil get back to where it belongs..no issues. If you do it the wrong way(carb side down), oil can get in your carburaor@@petedymond
Awesome video! Thank you!
Had same issue as you, mowing and heard a bang, stopped and saw metal on ground, it was one of the fins, like yours the bolt holding the bracket had come away, my pully was not too damaged, so I cut the remaining fins off (I think they may be to blow grass off the belts, or to cool?). I think that the bracket came loose over time and then ripped out the last bit of thread. It should be at the very least when manufactured have threadlocker on it . I helicoiled the bracket hole, put a threaded stud in and then the washer and then a nut and used loctite on all of it, so far its stayed on and is still firm. I took oil and petrol out and then put on its side rather than jack it up, I felt was the only way as the bracket spring was very difficult to get back on.
Great repair, I haven't used helicoils but that's a perfect application. The tapped metal is the weak link in the system for sure. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you for sharing, very helpful!
Very good info, used if for my install with some minor mods. I will let you know.
@ 33:28 If I had to grip a pulley to keep it from turning without damaging the pulley itself, I would wrap the old belt around the pulley and use vise grip like pliers to clamp the loose ends together, this will give you a substantial way to keep the pulley from turning if you don't have access to an impact gun. It works for me but YMMV.
I have the same mower. My variable speed seems to not be working, 1 through 6 is the same speed. Going to remove the deck this weekend, any clue to what it could be?
I would guess the lower drive belt is stretched
I have a question after doing my TB30R, I noticed after it all went back together that the lower drive belt rubs against the transmission in gear 3 or below. I swore I must have routed it wrong, but it looks identical to yours. I can see @59:03 your lower belt is pressed against the transmission as well. Do you have any issues with it rubbing at lower gear? I've bent that wire bracket over to push it away as it will surely eat right through the aluminum. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks for the video it helped me replace my belts. And I used MTD belts
I can't see what you're referring to, but no I don't have any issues with rubbing
new belts and pulleys so far so good. How to tell if the speed pulley is the problem?
By speed pulley, do you mean the variable pulley? I show in the video how it should move freely. What other pulleys did you replace? What issue are you having?
@@petedymond Yes the variable pulley and I replaced the other two just to be safe. It does move freely I guess I"'m just hesitant to go all in. I will see tomorrow. Thanks for your help.
Great job, Thanks. Can you please let me know how to adjust the 6 speeds?
I'm not aware of any adjustment. You get the speeds based upon the position of the selector. All the selector does is limit how far the belt will tighten from park upto full tension which is highest speed.
I don't think you can change it
@@petedymond
Hi Peter:
Your youtube was great as I have the same issues that you found which was very help to resolve it. However, I found this from the internet to adjust the speed control for this Troybilt that was not clear to me to do it. Can you please create a youTube or let me how this done!
Thanks
I downloaded a manual for the tractor. On page 17 . THERE IS A SECTION:SPEED CONTROL ADJUSTMENT: I WILL SHARE IT IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO DO IT ALSO
IF THE FULL RANGE OF YOUR SPEED CONTROL CANNOT BE OBTAINED ON YOUR UNIT, ADJUST THE SPEED CONTROL AS FOLLOWS:
adjust the speed control lever by pushing the clutch-brake pedal forward against the stop rod on the running board, if you don't have a buddy to hold the pedal, a pair of vice grips work to hold the pedal there. Make the following adjustment. Place the speed control lever in parking brake position. Remove the cotter pin clip and flat washer on speed control rod and adjust the ferrule on the speed control rod so it is against the back of the slot. then lengthen speed control rod one more turn Replace and secure flat washer and cotter pin clip.
I don't see any need to adjust the speed setting. No-one cuts above speed 3 or maybe 4 so as long as it moves at a decent pace, no problem
I have a craftsman r110 and I replaced the lower drive belt. While the mower is in park, is the belt suppose to be loose to the point it doesn’t spin? It tightens up when I engage the speed to 1-5, but it is very loose when in park.
Yes it shouldn't spin in park
My Extension Spring came off any idea were it goes? Thanks
ran like new. bad pulley $16 . Thank you
Have a craftsman r110 and it is very similar to yours. This just happened to me today, for some reason the belt keeper snapped and got caught by that main pulley. I just bent the fin of mine back down and it spins freely now. The belts look fine. I just need to replace the belt keeper square. Do you think i should replace that main pulley also? Thank you for your vid it really helped me pull everything apart.
The pulleys aren't very expensive, but if its working I would carry on with it. Glad the video helped. Thanks for the comment
So like a dummy i ordered aftermarket belts and not even a month later it's shredded i will deff be ordering the belts in the links for sure
Thanks for the comment, it's crazy how that tiny width difference affects the performance.
@@petedymond you are not lying I def though it was snug but didn’t think it was that snug
bought a replacement belt from auto zone it was not exact real close. Lasted 8 weeks. buy the right belts. Amazon carry them by part number listed on the mower.
Great video I followed it exactly. But after driving 300 feet the belt burned up $40 down the drain. every pulley was fine I can't understand what happened waiting for the new belt to arrive. I'm stunned because your video was perfect trying to figure out what happened. Will update asap. Thank you
Did you use OEM factory belts?
yes. I was wondering when you put grease on the q tip and then on the pully doesnt the bottom belt end up touching the shaft thus putting grease on the bottom belt and maybe causing it to twist? @@petedymond
I burned the deck belt by improperly routing it around the outside of the tensioner pully guide pin. Just slipped it inside up against the deck tensioner pully and all fixed.
What socket size is that crankshaft bolt?
Peter, at the 13:35 point, does the belt go under the brake pad. I was told to do so. Once I engaged the blade it got hot and broke. Everthing else looks good to me? I also have a Cub Cadet 30 H, which I believe is very similar to your machine. Appreciate any help
I made this video which may help: ruclips.net/video/PVsip8F_YNs/видео.htmlsi=4m71xwyZsSucFwLd
@@petedymond. Thank you. Looks like the belt should not be placed under the brake pad.
After watching this video and a few others I've determined this lawnmower is not for me. I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole. LOL
Its been a great mower for me! Sure it has some challenges but it cuts great!
Why is the brake pedal on the left side of this mower? My only complaint with this mower really.. wonder if anyone has moved it to the right side
After changing my belts, I no longer can get it to park seem stuck gears 4-6 only any idea what could be the problem
Did you use OEM belts? Did you route them correctly?
@@petedymond yea I did use OEM Belts for both yes are routed correctly
Why not drain the fuel & oil & lift the front until it stands on its back to access the bottom ?
If that works for you, go for it. Not sure it would make it easier though?
Very helpful. Thank you
Hello I have a question for you. I have the same mower troybilt my question is how do I get a bigger chute so I can get more leaves to pass thru? Currently the 2 baggers get filled soo fast but i just bought another baggers from amazon. I just want to know is there a way to increase the size of the chute so the leaves don’t get stuck PLEASE HELP THANKS
There isn't a bigger chute as far as I'm aware.
If you have a huge volume of leaves to pick up, then I suggest putting the mulch cover on and make a couple of passes and then put the chute back on to pick it up.
You may have to slow the speed way down so the chute doesn't get choked up.
Can you do a video on how to change from chute to mulch??
Why did you not inspect the VSD bearings while you had the VSD loose? Bad bearings could lead to early belt wear.
Did you do that in your video...?
Yes...mine was different as it is a 2019 Troy-Bilt Branco @@petedymond
I have the yard machine version anyone have the drive belt diagram. I can't figure out how it's routed
Isn't it the same? If you have the model number you can look it on the MTD website
My tb30r is running properly but the blades will not stay engaged for a long time. It’s like it runs for a minute then stops. Does anyone have the solution? I replaced the plunger switch and it still has the same problem as before. Is it a belt problem?
What stops? The engine cuts out or the blades stop turning?
@@petedymond The blades stop running
But the engine and everything else is fine
What is the purpose of the 3 fins on the main engine pulley?
I don't know, perhaps cooling?
I think they might be to blow any grass away from the belts@@petedymond
tb30r! only need take off3bolt belt cover, then bolt next belt 10mm take bolt off do n ot ne3ed take deck off! total 4 bolts change deck blade belt! wider belt make mower tighter less sleep! if change blade belt need replace attion pto cable spring apply attion, on belt last longer minetb30r yr 2015!
This video is for the drive belts. I made a no deck removal video for the blade belt.
thgere3 belt! blade transmission axle belt on seperten belt other 2v belt!!
speak English please
NOT easy? You must be doing it wrong then.
step1-
DO NOT remove the deck
step2-
LOWER the deck to its lowest setting
step3-
Remove old belt. Cut it if you have to.
step3-
feed the belt thru belt guides & around motor pully first.
step4-
route belt around blade pulley
step 5-
route belt around idler pulley last. It will be tight. Hold belt against blade pulley w one hand & reach
under deck & turn blade with other hand feeding the belt onto the blade pulley.
step last-
Turn your kid loose on the lawn while you reward yourself with a cold one.
!
Congratulations, you just shared how to replace the BLADE belt. This video is how to replace the 2 DRIVE belts...
I made a seperate video for just the blade belt.
all you need to do is pull a few clip pins and drop the whole deck!! read your manual
To change the blade belt you don't need to remove the deck. This video covers the drive belts, in which case you need to follow the steps in this video
I changed my belts and like a dummy I took of the clutch pedal rod. And now it only moves in what seems like first gear any idea how to readjust it.
The speed adjuster is the right side selector lever. I'm not sure what else would cause this issue
@@petedymond after watching the video i realized i ordered the wrong belt and put the speed selector switch in the place of the transmission belt so ill be taking it apart again
