This song was released in 1972, I was 16 in 1972 when I first listened to this song. I liked it then and I still like it all these years later. It takes me back in my mind and it makes me feel wonderful. Every once in awhile I go here and just sit back close my eyes and listen to Elliot Lurie sing.....Great song. thanks for the tunes...
I completely agree with you I do the same thing you know and forever the song has been in my life I was born in 64 so I remember the song when it first came out you know the guy I don't know if he passed away yet or not but this isn't 2015 however I hope that they're still going strong but I doubt it what song is all his songs are going strong all these guys songs are going strong in this group I love you guys for creating badass music that will always go down in history no matter what thank you once again see you in another place afterlife guaranteed😊😊
Maggie you are spot on! I'm 66 and grew up with the British Invasion bands,Stones,Beatles,Who,.I loved all the other great 60s groups also in Grass Roots,Three Dig Night, Loving Spoonful ,etc. But this song by the Looking Glass is not only my favorite one hit wonder ( although they had other minor hits),but one of my favorite songs ever. Yes he knows what a treasure this song is to millions of us!
We're the same age and loved hearing this back in the day along w/ all the groups you mentioned. I was also into Motown and country For me a lot of the songs i liked and heard on A.M. radio i had no idea what they looked like unless i saw them on tv or had an album. Im still discovering what they looked like back in my childhood
@@gbrown4x4 Hi again Yes I loved my Motown also. The 60s and 70s were full of magical groups and songs. Bringing us back to special times, people, places, events, etc. To a time of innocence and exploration. Music is a powerful force.May we all rock on for many more years!!
I agree the 1970's was the best decade musically, followed by the1960's - in my opinion. Also, even though I thought the 1970's was the best decade musically the 70's were also one of the most depressing and difficult decades, because things that were happening in the United States and also personally in our home when I was a kid.
I. HAVE. CHILLS!!! I fell in love with this song when I was 12 and now I’m 61 and still loving it and listening to it and so glad I have it on a take it everywhere I go CD!! Great song to listen to and sing to in the car! Love this song love this band! 💕🎶💕🎶🥰💕🎶
Nothing tops the emotional connection between a songwriter and one of his song. Eliot simply owns this song and, because of that, this is one of the best tunes ever written and performed.
Anybody that remembers the original would be in their 60s. A great song plays on the strings of a person's heart. Brandy gave me goose bumps then and now. What Brandy does is paint a picture that we would like to live in. Magical.
I knew a girl in the early 1970s who sold drinks in a harbor city bar, the most beautiful, sweet dancer in the world. All my friends, relatives, other customers, including the females, said so. Every time I went there she would put on 'Brandy' and dance to it for me. So smooth, so perfect. Long, dark hair, brown eyes. The last time I saw her (moving on in my travel-based career), at the opening of her new restaurant/bar, I got in my car and as I hit the ignition 'Brandy' came on the radio. Never forget her.
You gave the world a beautiful romantic ballad that will be around another 100 years, So rhey call u a one hit wonder? When others have come and gone with their list of hits,,, this girl will still be listening to Brandy. One of my all time favorite Thank u for this gift to the world.
Love it💝you go baby! ✌️I named my Brandy because of this song 🥰When it first came out, I was hooked💯🌹💖✌️🙌🌹You're🙏AWESOME🥰👌💞✌️darlin & ty for sharing 👍😁
So cool. I'm 24 years old and love a great deal of modern music, but god damn stuff like this has so much soul. And it's amazing to see how a song that came out in 1972 can be played today and people still know every word. Fuckin awesome. Just don't get the same vibe from today's stuff, ya feel?
I joined the Navy in 1977 and retired 20 years later, whenever I hear it or play it reminds of my time overseas and the girls that use to work in those waterfront bars. Such great memories.
I was 17 when I discovered this song...it was one of the reasons I joined the Navy in 1988. When I hear it now, it brings back such good memories of my time there.
Simply awesome. I've loved this song since I discovered it when I was 18 years old. I'm 62 now! I've owned the vinyl single since it came out ... it's now converted and has come to rest in pride of place in my iTunes collection. Thank you Looking Glass. Thank you so much.
Same here! I am not lying when I tell you this is my favorite song ever!!! I was dating a guy who was going off to the Navy in 1972. I was driving him to Oklahoma City to catch his flight when we both heard this song for the FIRST time on the radio. It was so meaningful and created a memory I will never forget. Unfortunately it didn't work out between us but we still bump into each other occasionally and have talked about this song so many times. I searched for a live video of this song as I just saw the King of Queens episode where Doug sings Brandy at a karaoke bar. It was hilarious of course.. Elliot Lurie does still have the pipes and I couldn't resist sharing my memory with you!
Me too, sitting in a Zodiac with Dennis listening to it on late night radio i was 17 I am 63 this year, remember it like it was yesterday, thank you , the best of times, good memories .x
Eliot Laurie has still got it, his voice has not changed after all these years. A truly timeless song, done by a truly timeless performer. The smile on Eliot's face says it all, he wrote a huge hit with this song. Thank you Eliot for all the memories.
This song has always made something in me I cannot describe. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. I am blessed to be able to listen to this great music.
Still loving and listening to this song in 2024. Timeless classic for sure. A time when singers truly could sing, play instruments and perform live. Thank you for the cherished memories.😘🙏🏼
God he still handsome. I loved listen to him sing the words. Like a fine glass of good wine. Does he tour anymore? I would buy tickets pull out my favorite bell bottoms jeans and just watch him sing. Its good he is still singing. He looks like he is in good shape. I think he is the same shape. Thank you sir
Mercy, it's a joy to read all these wonderful comments. Someone called this song a masterpiece and that must surely be true. The lyrics are fine poetry, the vocals exquisite, and the music otherworldly. Good art takes a person to good places and I have a feeling this one has done that millions of times over.

What a Classic Tune that paints a picture during each verse telling a great love story. Try to sit down and write words that don't sound corny or forced. Elliott did a fabulous job in creating perfect wording, chord progression and finally, a phenomenal, silky smooth voice that fit absolutely perfect. He deserves to milk this song in live performances for 40 years!!

Hey Elliot Lurie, Thankyou for this all time greatest rock and roll song of all times. Same today as it was way back when. So great to see you still delivering the same energy and groove. Hope some of the young aspirings will appreciate the "music" Rock on brother.
This just makes me happy! I love to still pop this in the 8 track on the rare times when I take my beloved '78 Thunderbird out for a spin. Ordered in August and took delivery of that car Sept. 21, 1977 and now has 260,611 miles.
In 1973 'Brandy'was my favorite song-friend James song was "Ramblin man' while riding in his Corvair we would hear our songs on the car radio.(so good)
I am 55. This is still one of my favorite songs. I was in the Air Force when I was 19 and got to travel all over the world serving my country. Love it.
I love old music sometimes my family members call me old soul because I love old music I heard this either my dad or Grandma and I loved it ever since and I don't just listen to this song I listen to Michael Jackson, Jackson 5, Steve wonder, and all old songs I listen to them when I was 12 and now I'm 14 so who knows what old music I did heard yet
Absolutely! The sexiest voice of the 70s. I still get lost just listening to sound of his voice. Just stops me, no matter what I'm doing. Thank you, Elliot
I was a kid when I heard this song. It tells a story and painted a picture in my head that is still there. I used to walk to school and visualize Brandy.
Wow this song brings back happy memories! How wonderful to see him now! Elliot is even better looking now as he's aged! And his pipes are just as amazing!!! Love this guy. Love this song. If he's single I'd date him. ;-)
God bless you! Thank you for brightening my life with this wonderful, wonderful song since I was 13 in 1972!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Three minutes of absolute paradise.
I adored this song sung by Looking Glass when I first heard it as a 19 year old in my first break away from the family home in NZ starting life in Sydney Australia. It was so hot on the radio at that time and played at parties. NOW 44 years later I reminisce of that beautiful era of my youthful freedom and all those gorgeous songs like Brandy and play every version I see on RUclips late at night on my iPad listening and singing along with my darling and appreciating the talent of that time. So blessed to have you tube at your finger tips to reminisce even on the big screen. Well done Looking Glass for sustaining and performing over 5 decades your classical Brandy. Thank you and Love you Deanna xx
My sister and I grew up in a small NC town. The only thing our town had was a skating rink...but not just any ‘ol skating rink. Ours had a terrazzo (not wood) floor and it was as smooth as a Looking Glass😉People would drive from counties over just to skate on the smoothest, fastest floor around. Brandy had just come out in the early seventies and it quickly became our favorite song to skate and listen to and it’s still one of our all time favorites! It’s a huge part of mine and my sisters fondest memories❤️We still call each other every time we hear it❤️What a GREAT timeless song!!!

His smile during the chorus is so sweet feels so wholesome
Because he knows hes singing an absolute masterpiece.

I think he's seeing a lot of people in the audience singing with him. That would bring a smile to anyone.
I love him so much. He’s so great and I love his smile.
He is smiling because he knows he wrote and sang a classic that gave us all so many great memories.

To bad they don't make songs like this anymore. Awesome. Always love to hear it
the 70's were the best musically cuz there was so many different genre's and it was all voice and instruments . god , how i miss it !!
I totally agree my friend
Your absutly right......the 70s were the best music of all times, at last in my genuration. Now 60 and living it!!!!

Exactly. I loved 70s Soft Rock, 70s Disco and 70s R&B Soul
I think there's just nobody that can make good music anymore. Nobody ever does it right now. Just boring music that's all the same
He sounds incredible!!! I truly think his voice hasn't been changed by "age." So many singers begin to sound so different, but not him!!!
LOL - not even close
The sober ones generally sound the same. I don't get a druggie vibe from him & I know this is a cell recording. So better in person.
exactly
Except his hair
Jeff Lynne sounds fabulous today
Thank you Elliot, for such a wonderful song. It has definitely withstood the test of time 💜🤎💜🤎💜
The only difference is that he now smiles when he sings. Love this song.
