I am so glad I stumbled upon this reaction. It is refreshing to see someone get introduced to Ren, without Hi Ren. And it is better to see Ren's introductory song to his album can hold its own without any background story etc.

He has a great singing voice and his lyrics are poetic, thought provoking and startlingly honest. His album Sick Boi came out this week. There isn't a bad track on it. Some stand out tracks before this album would be Hi Ren and the Tale of Jenny and Screech (3 related tales in one 13 minute video). He was in a band called the Big Push, and also did some great collaborations with Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla and Eden Nash, amongst others. I won't ruin Ren's entire story for you, but here's a small sample: Ren is an independent artist who does everything himself. He doesn't have management, and he produces almost all of his own beats and music. When Ren was 19, he contracted lymes disease, which was then misdiagnosed for the next 7-8 years. Any references you hear in his music to being sick or feeling crazy are his actual life, not just catchy lyrics. He is currently in Canada getting treatment for his autoimmune disorder caused by the lymes disease and is slowly starting to feel a "normal" person again after the 13 years he mentioned in the song. Most of his current music was all created while he was actively battling all of his conditions.

For REN, this was truly his reality. Ren had misdiagnosed Lyme disease for 7 years by conventional doctors who deemed him mentally ill, but when patients are experiencing neurological symptoms, they very often become misdiagnosed. Lyme disease can present itself as many neurological conditions including Acute Transverse Myelitis[3], Ptosis[4], Seizures, and Chronic Fatigue[1] and these symptoms can be often misdiagnosed or deemed psychosomatic.
