Hi Nobbel! Thank you for the video, I used to play WoW as a teenager back in WotLK days and ofc as a teen I ran out of money and turned to some of the RP servers. (I do not encourage piracy here) I used to roleplay a Human who found their way into dragon society, called Wyna Sheath, and over the course of 4+ years (like actual ingame playtime) I became friends with a person who RP'd a Black Dragon who ofc was corrupted by the old gods at the time. Using our limited scope of books and ingame lore we eventually had her sign a Draconic pact which transformed her into the four legged dragon frens you saw out by the old Volcano raid with the giant chains (i can not remember for the life of me, its been too long), and then eventually, with a little lore bending, a black dragon herself renamed into Kiranthia. Ofc as a teen I was very headstrong and a bit of a, lets say butt for now, and lost the friendship however the story of Kiranthia has been something I use as a security blanket to help me grow and learn as a person, I've commissioned artists to make art of her and use her as a character in many other stories to this day. Thank you for bringing up memories of those wonderful years roleplaying, it made me cry good tears

Welcome back, Nobbel. The Black Dragonflight is full of contradiction. It is one of the most impactful flights on the story, but it only to serve as a bad guy. In Classic and BC, they were just the heavies. But even in Cata, it was presented like this was DW big coming out party, but he's part of Team Old Gods along with so many others. Does anyone else get this impression of the Black Dragons? That they are more like placeholders until a better villain comes along. Wrathion would make an interesting character, but the weird timeline has each encounter being a new and fresh thing not a continuation. Wrathion is barely a whelp in Cata, a hatchling talking big in Pandaria and now a contestant on Temptation Island by BFA. If that trend holds, he should be a soccer dad taking his little ones to gnomish engineering club, fencing and murloc classes. One dragon related question: The elemental stone drakes? There wasn't a lot about them. My guess is they are elemental creatures soon than they are dragons. Like creatures in the Firelands may resemble spiders and cats, but are under that control of Ragnaros or the current firelord. Stone drakes like Aeonaxx are controlled by the Stonemother Therazane. Deathwing could probably have taking control during Cata, but everything else going on, it slipped Deathwing's mind.
Our Lord and savior Loremaster nobbel is back !!, so happy you're gracing us with your vids again man, you just give depth and significance to every wow related tale Thank you for all the efort on vids throughout the years
As mentally fucked up every single member of the flight is...the black flight seems like the more fun one tbh. I never believed that DW was Wrathion's father, the timeline wouldn't make sense at all, Nyxondra was captured and forced to lay eggs, this would insinuate that she hasn't laid for years (before DWs corruption) or she continuously laid eggs from previously mating with him. Dragons call Alexstrasza mother despite not being from the red flight, Ysera is called sister by Alexstrasza as well, It makes sense that Deathwing is the father of all black dragons despite not being directly responsible for their birth.
Wrathion is 2 Black Dragon eggs and 1 dead whelp fused together through a titanic device. Nyxondra is one of up to 6 Dragon parents that Wrathion has, through its possible all the "Wrathion's Components" were all from Nyxondra, since most Black Dragon females were dead by the start of Cataclysm. Deathwing is, as far as we know Wrathion's grandfather, probably because he doesn't have the slightest guess who is father is. Sabellian also has a screwy retconned family bloodline. Originally he was stated to be the child of Sinestra, but later retconned to having an unknown mother and only being the half-sibling of Nefarian and Onyxia. In the Dragonflight Beta there were hints that Wrathion's bloodline was being called into question, so it's possible that Sabellian's will also be.
Chances are that while trapped in Outland, Sabellian and his division of the Dragonflight probably were drawn to new sources of power; and in doing so stumbled across the teachings of Talon King Terokk and by-extension learned about the fallen Wind Serpent God known as Sethe and his fight against the Raven God Anzu. Reading over the firsthand accounts, Sabellian probably decided to practice these teachings in order to suppress and eventually completely drown out and resist the whispers of The Old Gods through practice and meditation.
So two things one absolutely love the video as always great job. Two I kind of wish that they kept the old story in which the old gods weren't dead but put back into their prisons because I feel like we're nearing to a point where what else is left that we know of in the current story? The burning crusade is done the old gods are dealt with the factions seem to be at peace at this point and let's keep it that way because I absolutely despise the faction War and we defeated the big bad of death. The only thing that's really left is the void Lords which okay and the infinite dragonflight. Hell even the scourge is dealt with at this point which is just more of the death angle
The Old Gods are not "done." Anyone who paid attention to the lore knows that we didn't kill any of the Old Gods, and did in fact push them back into their prisons. Worse yet, we actually freed one of them: N'zoth, who DID NOT die in BFA. Everything in the patch was merely a Vision. Stormwind and Orgrimmar weren't actually taken over by the Void, those were just Visions of N'zoth. We never went to the real Nya'lotha, we merely saw a Vision of it, just like everything else. It simultaneously baffles me and makes me laugh that people are so stupid that they can't put two and two together. Sooooo many fucking morons think that the Visions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar were simply visions, yet Nya'lotha was real. No one seems to realize that the way we enter Nya'lotha, is the same way we enter these Horrific Visions. The only thing that WAS real, is the Invasion Zones being attacked. Everything else was simply Void Visions to distract us. It's so cool that Blizzard did the most meta thing possible, by convincing most of the playerbase (because most of you are uneducated casuals who barely know, let alone comprehend the lore) that we actually killed N'zoth, while simultaneously outright selling the whole patch as a bunch of Visions. The Old lore has never been retconned. The only retconned story I can think of is Medan, and that may just be a recontextualization, on placing him in a very similar alternate timeline, as opposed to the True Timeline. Nowhere in Medan's story does it insinuate he's IN the True Timeline, which is why it'd be a recontextualization, rather than a retconn. Retconning is extremely rare to non existent in the Warcraft universe. The writers have always been smart enough to be able to recontextualize the lore as opposed to outright overwriting it with a retconn. Retconning, for the uneducated, is the changing of established lore, with no in universe explanation. Just straight up stating "the thing we said previously never happened, this is what actually happened." Recontextualization is when new context (via new information) is provided to a situation, which allows the original perspective to still be valid in universe, while providing a new perspective that is also valid. The Nathrezim are the prime example of this. Originally it was said that they are Demons. Now they're origin is the Shadowlands. If it was a retconn, they wouldn't have explained the reason why they were thought to have been Demons. They are simultaneously Demons and creations of the Shadowlands, because they are able to absorb energy from any cosmological force, and "become" part of that force, which is what makes them such great spies. Lothraxian for example is STILL a Dreadlord, he is and always will work for Death. Anyone who thinks the Light actually converted a Deadlord is an idiot. The lore we learned recently makes that clear. They became MORE terrifying with SL, because the fact that Disorder Nathrezim (Demons) can regenerate in the Twisting Nether as opposed to regenerating in Revendreth, means that they don't simply stop being useful when they die. For all we know, killing one of them anywhere BUT the Shadowlands (perhaps even Revendreth itself specifically) just causes them to return to Revendreth. And what I mean by that is killing a demon Nathrezim sends them to regenerate in the Nether, while killing that same Nathrezim I'm the Nether might override the conversion and send him to Revendreth instead of permakilling him. Because we know Demons can be PERMAKILLED in the Nether, but again, Nathrezim are simultaneously Demons and NOT Demons, so it's really unconformable until Blizzard clarifies this. It's be a great question to ask the lore pannel at Blizzcon when we get that back, which now that COVID is finally over, we will.
i remember joking with my friend that sinestra looks like that in cata cuz deathwing was rough with her during bedtime adventures....didn't think it would be for real :D
It took me all these years to realize it, but Wrathion is pretty much the Vegeta of wow. Declaring himself Prince even though there is only a handful of Black Dragons left in the world. Granted, Vegeta is the legitimate Saiyan Prince, but a Prince of a handful nonetheless.
I love your work Nobbel. The lore of Warcraft is really something else. Though I recently watched the Story of Illidan, and was wondering if you have any intentions of updating his story now that 2 expacs later, we haven't seen much to him since Legion. You're awesome, and thanks for putting work into the Lore of Warcraft.
In regards to Wrathion's father, while Deathwing isn't technically his biological father, thanks to the unique way Wrathion was created Deathwing is probably the only male Black Dragon who has any claim to the title of Wrathion's father. Essentially since Wrathion was created from multiple corrupted whelps artificially there's no living black dragon who could make claim to being his true biological father, however this Neltharion is for all intents and purposes both the spiritual father of all Blacks and the Biological father of many of them as well he has the best claim to being Wrathion's biological father even if it isn't strictly speaking true.
Thank you for this. One of the things that frustrates me most about Blizzard is when they remove important story from the game after an expansion, so all of that Wrathion lore from Pandaria feels like a giant hole in the story. I was confused why Anduin was so mad at Wrathion but now it makes more sense.
Boy I can't wait for there to be a day when in fantasy "black" doesn't mean evil automatically! Yes I'm aware there are evil dragons of other broods but that's some tired old shit that just needs to give up the ghost.
i really like wrathion. never gives up. always fight for a new black draongflight uncorrupted from old gods. while seballian sitting afk in outland. imo wrathion is the true new leader of the black dragons and has to be the new aspect (if there still be aspects after dragonflight expansion). AND at the end his plan worked. all factions working together now. there is finally peace (we can call it so) between alliance and horde
I'm still very curious to see examples of the Black Dragonflights magic. So far it's all been retreating their deceased Dragonflights or succumbing to the old gods magic and the like. With the new Evoker spec on the horizon do we think it will be a protective enhancement type of tank spec? Or just another damage dealer with shadowflame?
Like, to each their own, but I really don't understand the Wrathion appreciation. Personally I'm in favor of bringing Sabellian more prominently into the narrative.
@@AlHyckGaemsTAD - I think it basically comes down to the casual players having seen Wrathion as a suave character with some cool action scenes, and practically not having seen Sabellian at all. =') So on a surface level Wrathion seems great, I'm sure.
Please no, lol, give us Sabellian. He's older, actively led Blackdragon forces before, has direct lineage to Neltharion, and (like Wrathion and Ebyssian) hasn't fallen to Old God Corruption despite his susceptibility.
@@AlHyckGaemsTAD lol.. I agree on those points, but the man's been in outland all this time, and a lot has happened since then. If Sabellian was part of any of the last 7 expansions, I would agree with you completely. I'm happy that they are brining him back to the story, but I see him as more as a mentor, or maybe advisor to Wrathion in the future of that story. We will see what happens in Dragonflight
The fact that initially they had Wrathion playing a role in WoD, and then decided to scrap it insinuates that Wrathion is either corrupted, or was manipulated into doing the Void's work anyways. The reason it seems more likely to be corruption, is the fact that HE is the one that convinced us to go into the Visions of N'zoth. He directly gets involved in that patch, the most important Void patch ever. Funny how even Nobbel thinks our journey to Nya'lotha was real 😂 Fool, that was only a Vision... N'zoth is alive and free.
I've been wondering what kind of black dragon Sabellian is now. He was never directly cleansed from N'zoth's corruption like Ebyssian, nor was he born from an engineered egg like Wrathion. By all logic, he should still be corrupted, but my personal theory is Deathwing's defeat or at the very least N'zoth's defeat cleansed him. Then there's the black dragons from the Island Expeditions that might have been uncorrupted for all we know, not to mention the black dragonkin we're teaming up with in Dragonflight. At least we know from beta that Sabellian is a candidate for the new Black Aspect, and teaming up with him will give us some cool rewards. He might still be scheming, but I really hope not.
it is unknown if deathwing's soul will be redeemed in shadowlands and purified freed and cleansed of his madness and old god corruption and he will be known as neltharion again after his death and n'zoth's death since n'zoth was responsible for corrupting manipulating and turn neltharion evil.
Wait, I'm probably really late to this epiphany party but is blizzard on a set subjectschedule? is it... Vanilla, demons, undead, dragons, pandas, reboot, demons, undead, dragons,.... PANDA EXPAC NEXT BABYYY
@Nobbel87 can you do a video exaplaining how on earth this expasnion Dragonflight make sense? Because aren't all the dragons' power vanished after Catacylsm? And how at the end cutscene in Cata, they were saying, the Age of Dragon are no longer, and the Age of Men begins? So... why? How are the Dragons having their powers back?
Given that it was possible for Kalecgos to become the Blue Aspect without assistance from the Titans in Cataclysm, it does open the possibility that he and the other Aspects can reclaim their power once more. And given what all has happened since the Cataclysm, I can’t exactly blame the dragons for wanting to become protectors once more. As for how Alexstrasza and the others will regain their Aspect powers, it’s not entirely clear yet but it has something to do with the oathstones on the Dragon Isles.
@@Philosmountain You have my gratitude for the clarification. I haven't played since 2016, so I wouldn't know the true state of current warcraft lore from a Faberge Egg.

Do Nether Dragons count as Black Dragons? For that matter, what of the Chromatic and Twilight Dragons? Should they get an “Aspect” or main leader faction?
I still dont know how Scales from corrupted dragons protected us against nzoths influence. I still believe it made us easily decieved and the nyarlotha raid was a Horrific vision.
I wonder if a black dragon will be responsible for Anduins death in the future. Onyxia was responsible for his moms death And Wrathion was responsible for his father’s death. Will Anduin continue that?
Sorry, I have to.......Wrathion trying to outdo Anduin on his daddy being dead because of the old gods. Boo-hoo Wrathion! Your daddy was never there for you! You had no relationship with him At least Anduin's dad worked to have a better relationship with him
i think Wrathion calling Onixia auntie was just some error from blizzard side. here is a fact about blizzard that most player don't ever notice, blizzard has always twisted the meaning of words. example, the races of azeroth. if you think about it deeply the way races on azeroth work and act they aren't actually different races but different species.. think about it Orc comes from Dreanor and Humans comes from another race that don't originate from Azeroth. but race are extremely different to one another, meaning they aren't the same species meaning they aren't a race but a species. Mag-har Orc and Fel Orc are races of the same species the Orcs. Kultirans and Gillneans are races of the same species the Humans.. do you get it?? for years the writers of Blizzard have been doing this twists and most people haven't notices, it was after the cataclysm that people started to notice just how bad the bizzard writing team is.
it is unknown if deathwing as aspect of death does not have necromancy and death power since he was aspect of earth while malthael was archangel angel and aspect of wisdom but malthael become archangel angel and aspect of death and has death power in order to destroy humans demons and end the eternal conflict.

Oh wow.... Deathwing attacking Stormwind in the cinematic now makes so much more sense now.....
Fingers crossed we'll see and fight against Chromatus in Dragonflight.
🤞
Thank you for this. One of the things that frustrates me most about Blizzard is when they remove important story from the game after an expansion, so all of that Wrathion lore from Pandaria feels like a giant hole in the story. I was confused why Anduin was so mad at Wrathion but now it makes more sense.
Boy I can't wait for there to be a day when in fantasy "black" doesn't mean evil automatically! Yes I'm aware there are evil dragons of other broods but that's some tired old shit that just needs to give up the ghost.
Amen
i really like wrathion. never gives up. always fight for a new black draongflight uncorrupted from old gods. while seballian sitting afk in outland. imo wrathion is the true new leader of the black dragons and has to be the new aspect (if there still be aspects after dragonflight expansion). AND at the end his plan worked. all factions working together now. there is finally peace (we can call it so) between alliance and horde
Here we gooo
This is pretty pog
I'm still very curious to see examples of the Black Dragonflights magic. So far it's all been retreating their deceased Dragonflights or succumbing to the old gods magic and the like. With the new Evoker spec on the horizon do we think it will be a protective enhancement type of tank spec? Or just another damage dealer with shadowflame?
NOBBELS BACK BOYS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Wrathion is the most interesting character in WoW. They need to give him a bigger role.
Well, they're going to, right now. I hope they do it well, though; some of the beta stuff I've seen worries me...
@@AlHyckGaemsTAD Like you said, to each his own. I find his character interesting and Sabellian does not interest me at all.
Wrathion for leader of the Black Dragonflight! I haven’t played much of that storyline on beta. Mainly because I don’t want to ruin it for myself.
I swear to god, If Sabellian pulls old god influence out of his ass, I will shit. Please just let him be "good"
Cant wait to see what they do with the bronze dragonflight in DF!
Funny how even Nobbel thinks our journey to Nya'lotha was real 😂
Fool, that was only a Vision...
He might still be scheming, but I really hope not.
it is unknown if deathwing's soul will be redeemed in shadowlands and purified freed and cleansed of his madness and old god corruption and he will be known as neltharion again after his death and n'zoth's death since n'zoth was responsible for corrupting manipulating and turn neltharion evil.
whoa, were did the clip starting at 6:36 come from?!
Giving them a redemption arc was a great idea.
Can't wait to see what this new expansion has to bring!! So long maw, will NOT miss you or torghast
hiii miss Crawford
As for how Alexstrasza and the others will regain their Aspect powers, it’s not entirely clear yet but it has something to do with the oathstones on the Dragon Isles.
it is unknown if what if neltharion never becomes deathwing and evil and corrupted by old gods and neltharion will stay good.
Isn't that Sabellian in human form next to Ebonhorn, in the far left of the final scene? 25:29. The clothing is identical.
Yeah man, but hes photoshopped in. He was never in the Chamber of Heart
@@Philosmountain You have my gratitude for the clarification. I haven't played since 2016, so I wouldn't know the true state of current warcraft lore from a Faberge Egg.
I still think Ebonhorn being a black dragon was a huge plottwist.
Blue and Black Dragonflights are by far the best dragons, I love ur vids Nobbel I miss when WoW lore actually made a bit of sense after ur vids rather than w/e the fuck it is now
Nice onyxia wipe animation reference 🤣
So Ebonhorn is Seballian?
Did he return for Legion?
I'm so confused about his entire lore now.
LMAO Anduin punching Wrathion in the face 💀
Who becomes Wrathion's Consort tho??? I hope they do something interesting and not just a random character they pull out of a hat
hey @nobbel87 , are the ordering of the videos up to date on the "chronological order" playlists?
luv your work, you are the reason why I use youtube ❤
I think so but haven't checked in a while, will make some time this afternoon.
@@Nobbel87 Luv you
Do Nether Dragons count as Black Dragons? For that matter, what of the Chromatic and Twilight Dragons?
Should they get an “Aspect” or main leader faction?
I still dont know how Scales from corrupted dragons protected us against nzoths influence. I still believe it made us easily decieved and the nyarlotha raid was a Horrific vision.
I don't understand; can you show the parts where the Jailer was actually controlling everything? thanks!
More pls kind loremaster!
I wonder if a black dragon will be responsible for Anduins death in the future.
Onyxia was responsible for his moms death
And Wrathion was responsible for his father’s death.
Will Anduin continue that?
I wonder what will be the most popular drakthyr Color?
All hail the lore daddy
You should Upload all your lore video’s audio to a podcast
Nice
So is the lore doing a uturn of its direction? Cause honestly I don’t think I can handle a shadowlands again.
Interested to see some DF vids from you
Is it possible you could put the videos on Spotify? :)
Or would that take too much work? :)
Working on it! open.spotify.com/show/29ehRNNW9Zz9hkFWBwONO8?si=cbca3dc3b4ee4341&nd=1
@@Nobbel87 appreciate it:)
Comic Onyxia seemed inspired greatly by the Heavy Metal style of comics...
What is/where is it?
13:01
And many deductions of -50dkp later......
So, who is the black dragen flight aspect currently?
they don't have one!
it is unknown if deathwing as aspect of death does not have necromancy and death power since he was aspect of earth while malthael was archangel angel and aspect of wisdom but malthael become archangel angel and aspect of death and has death power in order to destroy humans demons and end the eternal conflict.
LORE TIME 🎉🎉🎉
