    Yoh man I am from Namibia, Africa and I just dig your videos bro. I have a 16 Focus ST and I am thinking of getting the Cobb RMM and Turbosmart BOV. When you long distances on the highway, 500 to 750 miles, does the RMM give off so much vibration that it becomes annoying?
    Also if you overtighten the screws (without a torque wrench) will do vibration become unbearable?
    Would love to hear back from you man, seriously loving the ST but I wanna make it better. Not worse.

      @Gjeebs  7 лет назад +4

      Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for commenting! I haven't spoke to anyone from Africa yet! When I am on long trips the upgraded RMM does not give off any other vibrations over stock. It's more when you are at idle when it vibrates more. If you over tighten things vibration could be annoying but you have to give it time. I would say a good 2-3 weeks of driving before it breaks in. The real difference is when you have AC on at idle but I personally feel the benefit outweighs the downsides of this upgrade. Hope this helps!

    I took out the COBB RMM and replaced it with a Stage 2 CPE RMM and I am so happy! The COBB one is definitely not the truth. Th Stage 2 provides such a clean and smooth shift, this is the way it should have been from jump. I bought this car with 17k miles and already had a COBB RMM. I was living a lie and I felt it every DAY! The first and second gear shifts were boo boo. Now with CPE Stage 2 RMM, I am driving perpetually satisfied everyday!

    I fitted the Mountune roll restrictor last month to my UK ST wagon and I have to say like what RGB says in his vid this is the single best upgrade to the ST bar none imo for handling improvement vs value spent. I have owned the 2012 st, 2015 st (facelift) now 2018 wagon ST. Whilst Ford did a good job improving the stock ST in 2015 from frankly I felt appalling 2012 version ( too much torque steer for me) this mod simply put allows you to gun it in 1st and 2nd. Those of you with an ST will know you have to half throttle, ride the clutch a bit to get a good getaway. With the mount fitted though wow...yes it will wheelspin a touch, but it now behaves itself so much more its a joy to drive fast (off public roads of course). I'm not so sure on the gearbox difference RGB references but then my wagon is only 500miles from new so my gearbox hasn't loosened up much. Under high revs though i can say with the mount fitted it does slot into gears with precision.
    I have the mountune mp275 upgrade, if you have this mod you then must have the roll restrictor to really enjoy the upgrade imo. As far as NVH yes at idle is the only issue. In my case when idling around 800rpm the petrol wagon can feel like a diesel that's how i could describe it. But tbh the slight increase in noise and vibe makes you feel you are in a quick powerful car. Once the car is off and going there absolutely no difference in NVH at all from stock. Lastly bare in mind if you have the 'engine off at idle' whilst in traffic mod active which all STs now come with as standard, the amount of time you will notice the tick over NVH increase would again be reduced anyway.

    I have a 2013 ST3. Bought it from a Ford dealership in The Hague, The Netherlands.
    The ST is a rare sight on Dutch roads - it's mostly GTI's over here.
    The ST has a great chassis and wonderful engine.
    Mine is still fitted with te original RMM. Which is way to soft!
    After this video I'm going to get the Mountune MM.
    So thank you for this video, it was really helpfull.

      So, I put in the Mountune motor mount and...I hated it!! Its horrible.
      I took it off the next day - after a long drive over different sorts of roads. Way too much noise and vibrations in the cabin for my taste.
      I now have the offical Ford Focus E MM, and that's much better.
      You still get a little bit of wheelhop, but only if you floor it like a lunatic in 1st gear - which i never do.
      I don't see how the folks at Mountune really consider there RMM as a quality product. I cant imagine they've put much R&D into it.
      I'm now about to install a full resonated cat back exhaust from Scorpion under my ST. It will only a bit louder, but not too much.
      Greetings.

    Just installed the roll restrictor on my 2018 Focus ST. I am so impressed and truly wish I had installed earlier. I do not get the hatchet and the shifting after the install........the entire car feels better. There is a very small amount of vibration when you first start out and I mean very little. Shifting does seem better. The big difference I notices was driving at speeds above 70 mph the car did not wander around on the road.........I thought I had an alignment problem but did not.............I highly recommend the Mountune roll restrictor! It took about an hour to install and most of that was gathering and putting up my tools.

    I think this was your best non-HP performance upgrade that I've watched. You are spot-on with your analysis of the Mountune rear motor mount. This was the first upgrade I made to my new 2017 ST which I knew I would do from the day of delivery. After test driving the car, the upgrade was not just essential to me, but required for safety and handling. Again, good review.....
    I just ordered the Quaife differential, another of my required safety and chassis non-HP upgrade that I feel is essential to the performance and handling qualities of the ST. I'll give you a verbal review once it's installed and I put 500+ miles on it. Following that upgrade, I'm going to install the Ford Performance complete short-throw shifter assembly. Sure, I could have just installed the short-shift arm assembly, but from experience in my track Trans-Am Corvette and other vehicles, the complete assembly, IMO, is the only way to go. For $200 more, it seems like a no-brainer to me.....
    I'm going to email you about the exhaust system you installed. Now a low-pressure exhaust is fine, it isn't one of the upgrades very high on my list of things to add for non-HP performance versus safety and handling. Upgrading the brake system, perhaps a better spring package, and a bar change will follow the short-throw. I'm thinking the Ford tungsten/ceramic brake system (yeah, I know big $$$) is the way to go. If you've never driver behind ceramic brakes, we'll, all I can say is they will definitely put a big smile on your face when you ask them to 'perform'......
    That's it from here, and keep up the good work ---- Jack

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  7 лет назад

      No way I am going to ceramic brakes but I appreciate your dedication. Interested to hear what you have to say about the differential because that is something this car is missing and needs. Appreciate your feedback!

      I do have a $$ advantage because of Team owner discounts. Even though we run Chevy, we work and trade with the Ford guys all the time. I can't disclose the discounts, but they are very helpful, if you get my drift...I'll let you know about the differential once installed and given a decent workout. BTW, I ordered the upgraded brake system today, however, it'll be 6-9 weeks before I see it...adios

      Question for you on this: for 2017 FoST, is the RMM still useful? I can't quite tell, because when I look at the aftermarket providers, they seem to indicate earlier year versions of the FoST. I'm about to get a 2017 FoST, and am wondering if Ford has improved the RMM with the newer iteration. Thanks for any info...

    • @jacksternquist6625
      @jacksternquist6625 7 лет назад

      Kevin Swanson....after seeing the older motor mount after replacement, I don't believe Ford addressed the issue of a firmer upgrade. I do feel the standard RMM is fine for the models below the performance ST and RS, but in these models, the Mountune Motor Mount is important if the car is driven near its limit. For the amount of money invested, it should be an upgrade all ST/RS owners do. If you have more money to add in upgrades, I believe the LSD (limited slip differential) is the most important on a performance and safety level -- again, we are talking about driving the car near its limit. If you don't plan to run the car hard at any time, no upgrades are necessary, especially the eye-candy type. Hope this answers your question, however, improving your ST is always a pleasurable proscess.....Jack

    At one point viewing and commenting on your well-done videos, we talked about the order and importance of some of the mods offered by Ford, Mountune, and other aftermarket vendors; while rewatching this video, I thought I would pass along the mods I did in order of what I feel are the most important to least. As you know, I place safely and performance above eye-candy and mods which could be forgotten and the car would remain a fine vehicle right 'out-of-the-box' -- afterall, the ST is a superior product compared to many other vehicles in its class and performance. So here goes my list of what I have done and the order of importance on my 2017 ST.....
    First off, I bought the ST1 version so I could use the cost of the ST2 or ST3, however, I made a deal with the dealer to have the front seats of my ST1 replaced with the Recaro leather and cloth racing version. I consider that not at the top of the mod chain, but important enough to make sure my ST1 came installed that way. To me the first mod had to be the limited slip differential which I installed within a week of purchase. It has proved to be the best mod for performance and safety -- I wouldn't want to return to the electronic version offered by Ford....the second mod I installed was a set of Mountune Sport springs -- another must have mod for performance and safety. The third mod I installed was the Mountune rear motor mount -- this enhanced mount is essential when mated with the mechanical differential and spring set....The fourth mod was the complete Ford Racing Performance Short Throw shift assembly (yes, the complete assembly).Along with the shifter, I replaced the rubber OEM rubber transmission bushings with a set of machined aluminum Replacement parts. Those two items improved the throws many times over. Next on the list was the Mountune air intake piping, plus a cloth/oiled air cleaner and a complete Mountune cat-back 3" exhaust to replace the marginal 2 1/2" tubing which Ford provided. The flow will be important down the line if I plan a larger inter cooler and set up a performance tune through Mountune and Cobb. The only eye-candy type mod was me removing the Focus branding from the fifth door and installing a Sto & Sho front license plate bracket. When I crossed the 1000 mile threshold, I replaced the oil with Mobile 1 synthetic (5W-30) and a high performance (in name at least) Mobile 1 oil filter.....that's about it right now. For future mods, I plan to buy a set of P -Zero summer tires to replace my winter all-seasons that came with the car and will be reinstalled come next winter. New brakes and pads to the Ford RS standard will be the next major upgrade along with a higher rated inter-cooler (most likely a Mountune to remain under factory warranty). Once these last two mods are installed, I will be giving the ST a custom tune working with Cobb and Mountune (I will explore a Stratified Mapping if my research leads me down that road........well, that's the path I' e chosen for my 2017 Ford ST-1; I'll keep you informed if that is to your liking, my friend. And keep up pumping out your videos -- they certainly provide a service to all levels of ST owners.........adios

    Direct injection engines are more prone to random misfires at idle. No doubt that is part of the intermittent idle vibrations people experience with a stiffer rear motor mount. Nothing to be concerned about.

The car shakes badly! Is this your case or is my climate control that's not working propperly? Now that it is broken in, I notice almost no vibration. Another thing to note is I almost never have the AC on so that helps as well. When AC is on the vibration is noticeable but still not a crazy thing that bothers me

    I'm curious if you have considered the Cobb short throw shifter plate and how that might interact and feel with the other mods you've installed. From what I've seen it's another relatively cheap and simple mod that can give you a nice bang for your buck.

    I believe in one of your other videos you said that Mountune parts do not void the warranty however do they need to be installed by ford or can you have it done elsewhere without voiding the warranty? I was wanting to add an inter cooler exhaust and motor mounts. Also any electric tuning will for sure void the warranty right?

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  7 лет назад

      Most Ford Dealerships will be able to do it or you can get it done at Mountune and obviously it will be covered there as well. I am sure there are other certified retailers but it would probably be best to ask Mountune who they would be near you. Also remember the only way the can void your warranty is if the issue is caused directly from the modification. Magnusson Moss Warranty Act: Code - Title 15 chapter 50 Section 2301-2312. The mods you are looking at rarely fail when installed correctly so you shouldn't have any issues. i am not sure what you mean about electric upgrades.

      I can't speak for the cobb one however Mountune is a totally dedicated to Ford and does a lot of research before releasing a part in their racing team. Cobb covers several manufactures and I would say it isn't as well built.

    I'm going to say that I think stock ford shifters are absolute shit. 08 Mustang GT... 4.10 gears, tune, TB, rear control arms... lots of fun... till you have to shift... Once the hurst shifter went in... that car was an absolute blast...

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  8 лет назад

      I think you should drive it stock for a while. Get used to the car, see what you like and what you don't like and then go from there. The stock mount is very comfortable, the Mountune one is a little more aggressive as I explain in the video but I say enjoy it stock first so you have a baseline to go off of.

    Hey dude, greetings from the UK! Your videos played a bit part in helping me decide whether or not to buy an ST - I ended up buying a used 2015 ST back in August, and I gave no regrets!
    There is one thing that bugs me though, and that's the sloppy gear changes that you've talked about before. The transmission works fine, but I sometimes have to add a little extra force to get into gear smoothly (particularly into 4th), which is kinda annoying! Is this the same problem you were having with yours, and did changing the rear motor mount solve it? I found a thread on Reddit which seems to be about the same thing:
    m.reddit.com/r/FocusST/comments/4b1udm/2016_st1_2nd_gear_problem/
    What do you reckon?

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  8 лет назад

      I would say the rear motor mount solved it for sure. Makes the shifts a lot more firm and direct. I have a full video on how the motor mount feels. Thanks for the support and I'm happy you love you ST!
