I ran across John Walton in Phu Bai during my first tour in RVN when I was injured during a rocket attack. John triaged my wounds and I was sent down to the 95th EVAC Hospital in Da Nang. Flash foreword to 1982 in Southern California when I came across John once again as part of my skydiving crew. I had no idea that he was the one who attended to my wounds during the war until I had been jumping with him for almost a year. It was at that time we both started to compare notes about our time in Vietnam when I realized who he was, but I had no idea that he was the Walton of the “Walmart” family. He was extremely low key and presented no airs about himself, very humbled to have known him.
I met his Brother Jim and wife Lynn in a meeting in Bentonville at the airport one night, I visited with them for 30 minutes or so and didn’t know who they were until they left, they were both very nice people to visit with.
This guy lived in National City, CA. He had a huge property right next to Las Palmas park. Thanks to him we got a Walmart where the old Fedco used to be. I used to walk my dog by his place. There was a huge gate and it was really lit up. This area has the highest crime in San Diego. He could have lived in La Jolla or Rancho Santa Fe. Glad no one ever broke in. The intruder wouldn't have stood a chance against a Former Green Beret MAC V SOG.

I tell you, Major….(and I say this fully admitting that I’m not qualified to make this remark) when you say “served in combat”. There’s combat…..then there’s *F**KING COMBAT!*. From all the books, and documentaries I’ve read about the MACV-SOG (which are finally now being told in full), the combat that the SOG guys saw, like Walton, Tilt, etc… was on an entirely different level. These guys were 4-6man teams, who were up against, sometimes thousands of NVA, many of whom were literally feet from them. Without inadvertently putting Walton up on a pedestal, that makes Walton’s story even more special (if that is even possible)…..maybe unique is a better word. As you say….I don’t know of any millionaire’s son’s who were in the war, let alone major combat. Thank you for your service, btw!

My family told me some other stories, pretty crazy but unconfirmed being he died suddenly in 02'. Silver Star amongst others, he was a true bad ass and I knew it.
I'm sorry. But I don't believe this man, is who your saying he is. This John Walton from Arkansas. But rather, I believe he's Michael Vincent Hoover, from Pennsylvania, who also served as a Green Beret, with MacVsog during that time, and who just recently passed away in Indianapolis Indiana. He left behind a wife, three sons, and five grandchildren. I'm not doubting, that Mr. Walton did all the things your saying. I'm only saying, that I don't believe that the photo, is of him. I first met Mr. Hoover in 1990, as my baby sister, was dating one of his twin boys, whom she's been with now, for 20 plus years. If this man isn't Mike Hoover, than it's his twin brother. And I'm sorry, but I would have to questions the odds, of two guys, who look exactly alike, being Green Berets, serving in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, at the exact same time. So please, don't take this, like I'm trying to tarnish Mr. Waltons character, or bravery. Only that I think the photo, isn't of him...
It's a shame for this special man to have his family just ruined their name. By pushing for gay transgender and anything Evil Under the Sun you can imagine. We learned it during covid

@David Erickson Biden received 5 deferments from the draft for Asthma. When I enlisted in `65 you received an Asthma deferment with proof of a three month pattern of Asthma leading up to your draft. He claims he had Asthma as a teenager to get the deferments. Yet was a “standout football athlete” as a teenager?? "As a result of a physical exam on April 5, 1968, Joe Biden was classified 1-Y and disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager," said David Wade, a campaign spokesman. In "Promises to Keep," a memoir that was published last year, Biden never mentions his asthma, recounting an active childhood, work as a lifeguard and football exploits in high school. Biden attended the Archmere Academy in Claymont, where he was a “standout” halfback and wide receiver on the high school football team he helped lead a perennially losing team to an undefeated season in his senior year He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 from the University of Delaware, with a double major in history and political science and a minor in English. Biden played “halfback” for the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens freshman football team, and “defensive back” for the varsity team.

they never focus on the men and women who worked in MAAG/MACV SOG who were in the offices in Saigon working and planning these missions, they only focus on the men who performed the studies and observations. I guess the ones who worked in the offices weren't as exciting or glamorous as the ones who work out in the fields.
I suppose everyone is worth a mention, but when your job is putting intelligence together in an air conditioned office, it's hardly going to get peoples heart rate pumping, is it.
@@Soulrollsdeep yes, however, there are dangers in the planning office, paper cuts, water cooler spills, AC going out and those intruding mosquitos that come into the office and try to attack the staff.

The first part of this guy's story is that he should have never allowed himself to be sent to Vietnam in the first place...where he did NOT belong. Then there wouldn't be any BS story to tell.
@David Erickson I'm stating the bigger question. Why did he belong in Vietnam in the first place? What legitimate right or reason were Americans there?
@David Erickson I am actually pro-military and pro-military service...it's just the "applications" of it after WW2 where I have had a major "issue". I had a conversation with a Vietnam veteran on RUclips who was "anti-military" and belongs to a national group of such veterans. I am less "militant" than him...lol. Good you still fly. Flying is very good.
@David Erickson I agree with you as well. Remember Eisenhower said a long time ago..."beware of the military/industrial complex". That's a huge machine that oils itself. And let's face it, having these wars keeps the research and hardware "fined tuned" in real life applications. All my life the US has always maintained a "boogie man" out there (real or imagined) to destroy the American way....therefore justification of huge military budgets and expenditures annually. I see this latest UFO debate with no conclusions as a way of justifying huge expenditures in the future...b/c "it's the Russians, Chinese, or some other country" that has superior technology invading our airspace.
@David Erickson Correct...and he dared to ask the obvious question of why Germany had a major energy pipeline/ agreement with Russia...therefore depending on them for energy. The US then pays "protection" for them from Russia?? And let's not leave out very successful S. Korea. They are an emerging financial/economic powerhouse. They pissed, moaned and groaned like emotional little girls (lol) when the issue of paying their own way was brought up. Their basic response..."friends don't treat friends that way".

I notice he is holding a suppressed .22 cal Hi-Standard pistol in one of his pictures. The pistol was unique to SOG and CIA operations. I would be interested to know if other units had access to them in Vietnam. Major Donald E.Z lotnik (Ret.) MACVSOG-CCN

Holy crap! Walton and Walmart??
My old man never said much either. I remember him telling me about how and why they got their tiger stripes though.
Tell us the story please
@@alex9483 yeh , really
@@alex9483 I asked him about them while cleaning the shed. He told me that an SVA
soldier took them into town to buy the fabric and they were tailor made. The Army didn't issue it to them, they did it on their own being they were so visible in standard issue uniforms. My old man was a radio man also which made him #2 for the enemy to target. My family told me some other stories, pretty crazy but unconfirmed being he died suddenly in 02'. Silver Star amongst others, he was a true bad ass and I knew it.

Geeez dude, 3 min intro to all your vids
MR. Christiensen you have a winning series please keep it up. maybe you could think about a shorter introduction

Background music is too loud and drowns out the enjoyment of your videos, and the intro is way to long.
It starts at 3:13
The background music is way too loud.......
Music to load to hear text😢
It's a shame for this special man to have his family just ruined their name. By pushing for gay transgender and anything Evil Under the Sun you can imagine. We learned it during covid
Shorten your opening’s 3 minutes is too long.

Biden attended the Archmere Academy in Claymont, where he was a “standout” halfback and wide receiver on the high school football team he helped lead a perennially losing team to an undefeated season in his senior year
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 from the University of Delaware, with a double major in history and political science and a minor in English. Biden played “halfback” for the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens freshman football team, and “defensive back” for the varsity team.

Trash the annoying music.
Even they were no match for the Vietnamese.
they never focus on the men and women who worked in MAAG/MACV SOG who were in the offices in Saigon working and planning these missions, they only focus on the men who performed the studies and observations.
Guess what... Saigon " units" were all infiltrated with NVA/ CONG types & a lot of shit was COMPROMISED...

@David Erickson I respect your comment. I'm a Vietnam/Draft resistor. For me, it's personal and clearly defined.
