I have been looking up public admin videos all night for my test tmw. This was actually one of the most enjoyable video. I was able to gain such a better understanding. Thank you!
I remember in the movie THE FOUNDER, Dick McDonald ran the original McDonald's kitchen like an assembly line. He even drew out the kitchen layout on a tennis court and had the workers shadow their job and kept erasing and moving kitchen appliances till everything moved smoothly. For some odd reason, I find this topic of making things more efficient super interesting.
using more pictures and videos as examples helps us in understanding things better rather than going word to word and it also keep us engaged rather than distracting
Frederic Taylor's first job as a foreman of a machine shop. He applied his organizational skills to finding the most efficient way to cut metal and along the way invented High Speed Steel. You can read his research report that was originally published in 1906 as a kindle book. "On The Art Of Cutting Metals" by Frederic Taylor.
Just compressed my study time by 400%. Thanks for the clip. I don't know why I found myself thinking about Amazon Fulfilment Centers at the end of the clip.
Those methods described were developed by Taylor for the circumstances of his time. However, what it is missing so very often is what he said to be the foundation of a real scientific management, namely: "The principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for the employee" (The Principles of Scientific Management, F.W. Taylor, 1919, first paragraph). This founding principle is the base for systemic thinking as well. It is sad to see how management discipline derailed because Taylor is remembered for the methods and not the principles.
This was good detailed explanation of the concept. From where you took all this information and examples ? I would like to know about the references please
yeah very useful summarized everything in a few minute which allows me to have more time to do other things on my project about him keep up the good work!

Hi... Can you please please please.. explain to me.... Why they say .." Taylor did not differentiated between the principle of analysis and principle of action"
can you tell me are these following his 4 principles: 1. diviosn of labor 2.hierarchy 3.selection, training nad compensation 4.time and motion studies pls answer it as soon as possible, its my presentation is tomorrow!
Thank you, Maktoum. I grew up between Boston and New York City but my accent has softened a bit from living in many different parts of the US over the years.
Hey, don't know if you're still answering here, but could you specify what's meant with the fact that Taylor wanted the improvement on the highest level possible, as opposed to Spear & Bowen who wanted it the lowest level possible?
would you please upload few videos related to organizational thinkers; 1). Mary Parker Follett -> Dynamic Administration; 2). Mayo and others -> Human relation school; 3). Chester Barnard; 4). Behavioral approach; and 5). Herbert Simon -> Decision Making. Plz if its possible for u then then plz try to upload it as early as possible. Thank You.
Excellent content. Thank you! Especially the video work and photos - how do you get those effects? looks like a blurred background blown up of the same image in the foreground?
I am just starting to learn - Wirecast etc. I would love to chat with you for a few minutes at some time. Contact info on LinkedIn - Brian Collyer - Las Vegas :)
Hi Thank you so much for the info. This is obviously a great tool to drive efficiency at factories, BPOs & IT firms where jobs are more standardized and oriented. Does this work for departments like Marketing as well? Every month, the projects are new and they are all different with different timelines. We are onboarding agencies, conducting researches, negotiating with vendors, making content etc etc.
Henry Ford actually got the idea for the assembly line from the meat packing factories in Chicago. - facts brought to you by a former presenter of the Build a Model T exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum
Yes! I see it in many workplaces often, especially manufacturing, restaurants, etc. but also in regular office jobs. I think it has some limited usefulness but when it goes too far and deskills workers, then it will usually cause the organization other problems like employee turnover, burnout, etc. Good question.
But would you think that it is less relevant today n future than it was in the past As technological advances and artificial intelligence play an increasingly prominent role in modern organisations?
hey guys I'm also curious to know how it works nowadays compared to the past Would you consider it's getting less relevant these days in companies like MacDonald as we've got machines where we can put orders on for ourselves and are innovative companies like google also the trending for the future where taylor's scientific management is no longer there to apply????
Newer types of companies like Facebook, Google, etc. don't take this approach because they are doing "knowledge-intensive" work. At the same time, there are far more manufacturing, food service, etc. jobs today than there have ever been when you look at the whole planet. I think robotics will eventually replace most of those jobs but that's still years away. Right now, even most robotic-heavy companies have people and robots working in the same space. In other words, Taylorism hasn't gone away. It's just that other types of organizations are on the rise.
A truly free and just society must eliminate this harmful system as it ruins countless people's lives in servitude and near slavery every single day. Taylor was evil, in that he promoted social darwinism and exploitation of labor.

Great points Matias, I fully agree. It's a shame people can't be bothered to read his work instead of making videos about what the think he said. Paul

Got a question,:
what are the challenges of Scientific management theory in Employment relations?
Sir I have a question. If you are going to apply this in an organization, what type of organization do you think it would be most useful?
Today, I see it as applicable to lots of organizations from manufacturing to shipping to food.

Does taylor only have 4 principle scientific management ?
Is there one best way to manage still waiting to be discovered? Explain.
Depends on the situation. Very few researchers think anymore that there is one best way.
