- POV Drive of the 2019 X3 M40i. This car's exhaust is INSANE and the overrun on downshifts burble and pop louder than the M2! It's a true sleeper, looks just like a 30i M-Sport but accelerates like a sports car.

My Grandma has the exact same car but in silver. Such a fun car to drive for sure!
I bought a 2019 BMW X3 M40i two weeks ago and no way in hell are the power specs on the sticker anywhere near 355HP. More like 400WHP. Recent dyno runs on RUclips and in BMW forums are showing 394WHP (using 93 Octane) or about 494 crank HP before ~20% transmission energy loss. Yeah, that’s about right 👍🏻
D J most European manufacturers are very conservative with their power figures. It las always nice to know you’re getting something a little more powerful than advertised!
@@LuWeiHuang because this isn't the top of the line m car. they can't have numbers too high for this model, then people will not justify spending a lot more m cars ;) m cars need to stand out more
modern transmissions are far more efficient than they used to be, there's nowhere near 20% drivetrain loss with the ZF 8 speed. you're crazy if you think the B58 makes 494hp at the crank lol.
@@busterscrugsfacts but maybe like 420-440
Best car ... just got my 2020 blue phytonic metallic
Amit Srivastava mine arrives this time next week
Isn’t that Phytonic Blue?
Birdbozo sorry sir. I am really very sorry ... sorry sorry sorry
One of the best reviews of this car yet. Just bought one, looking forward to itb
Your channel is a treasure LoL. Thanks for these nice BMWs!
Thank you for the kind words! I will continue to post more POVs!
Thanks for this video, was exactly what I was looking for
Time to return my 2018 x3
The M40i was available in 2018 also. I have one. But if you didn't get the M40i, it's exactly the same for 2019 except for 2 things. One, the steering wheel. And two, the rear decals (placement).
@@ChristianC-gy1ym Wheel is the same...
@@1HellOfAM40 nope 2019 got different steering wheels I know for a FACT and also we are talking about the American release
@@ChristianC-gy1ym Ahhh gotcha, yep I take back what I said. American release of the cars did actually get different wheels... How weird!
@@1HellOfAM40 weird indeed. Initially I was disappointed because I preferred the latter wheel, but eventually mine grew on me.
Got one 2 weeks ago.
Luv it.
I have same car 2019 but don’t have this pops & bangs .
Tried it in sport + but doesn’t sound like that
I really like this suv.
I got a 2021 model with the revised engine. Don’t think I got the burble tune on mine.
How reliable is this after 3 years and no warranty?
Is this the original exhaust?
So how's it holding up. Any issues? Planning to replace my Wife's suv with a x3 m40i. Thanks
Why do i hear an MK5 Supra? I want this SUV, since the B58 has aftermarket support i would like to use this as the ultimate crossover sleeper. 😎😎
It's because it has the supra engine, all x3 m40i's 2017- got supra engine which is B58
Probably a different down pipe and a tune
How does the new 2019 X5 4.0 Msport sound in comparison?
The X5 4.0 Msport exhaust is more muffled and does not pop and burble like the M40i does. Less aggressive overall but sounds very good non the less.
I'm buying this car
What a treassure this channel!!! How would I get this kind of sound out of the X5 40i G05? Thats the only thing which is missing to me out there… thanks for reply.
😎👌🏼Awesome !
What watch are you wearing?
I’m enjoying mine everyday
does the car burble and pop in comfort mode too?
No only in sport/sport plus
Is this with the OPF filter? I just bought a 2019 and I didn’t notice those pops and bangs…
No it does not have OPF. This was a 2019 U.S. spec vehicle.
subscribed! Nicely donne!
So cool i love it
Thank you so much. Will be posting more POV videos regularly!
@@LuWeiHuang thanks
I do this almost everyday haha :)
Hey, love your video. Have some questions :). I have just bought a BMW x3 40 and I live in Belgium. My wife has a BMW 1 40 (also M performanc
Sorry will complete my comment :). I actually bought the X3 because of videos like yours and I mean this in a very positive way. I love sporty exhaust especially when they are stock. I don’t like aftermarket pieces even when they come from BMW. But I am very disappointed with my X3. The car itself is great, but the exhaust does not make the pops and burbles like yours does. My wifes BMW 1 40 M-performance however has a lot deeper sound. It sounds way better then my X3 and makes more pops. I don’t know the reason. My X3 only has 1000 km. Maybe the sound will get better when it has more mileage. Or maybe it will better when it makes more RPM. Because it has only 1000 km, I only rev my car untill 4000 RPM. Or maybe regulation has changed in Europe and the exhaust from X3 now delivered has changed.
The pops when shifting down in your car: is it only when over 4000 RPM. Has your sound also changed: was it different when car was new? Has sound changed over time. Do you drive in sport or sport + and is the sound different in sport +. I know it is long comment but I hope to get more info on this subject.
@@sofieboeye9541 Did you buy the 2018/2019 X3 M40i? If so it should have the pops and burbles, the cars sold in Belgium should be very similar if not the same to U.S. spec cars. What I do is I drive the car for 5-10 minutes to warm it up, then put it into sport +. In normal mode it won't do it but In sport + the shifts are more aggressive and it will pop and burble. I find the sweet spot being 3-6k rpm, if you downshift or accelerate then let off the gas in that range, the burbles will be very loud.
Lu Wei Huang Many thanks for quick answer. I tot my X3 delivered in december 2018 so I guess it is 2018 model. How many miles does your X3 have and was it less loud in beginning
Sofie Boeye The Reason for the poor sound on your X3 is simple and sad at the same time. All european x3 now have an OPF ( Filter for Gas/petrol powered cars) due to new emission regulations (Euro 6d temp in this case). With that said, your sound will never be like this in the video because the Filter mutes the sound! US cars do not have this filter and sound really nice. I drive an m240i and was lucky, because I bought it before the put an OPF in it.
Markus Z thanks so much for the answer. And indeed I also already found it on net. It’s a real shame: bought this car for performance and to have sporty sound before all cars get electric. Could I have anything done about it? And does this apply to all BMW or only to X3. I suppose the same goes for real Mcars too. Imagine what real M drivers will say when their cars sound like normal ones. I am not happy anyway. Car is awesome but you buy something based on what you have seen: saw car on road and sounded awesome, read on fora about it and saW it on youtube. The uppon delivery you find out (via the internet by the way) that one of reasons why you buy a sportier car is no longer there. Not that great!
I love the Germans! Good video but way too many quick movements with the camera - maybe use an image stabilization feature next time - this made me a bit dizzy - lol
I doubt he owns 50 grand worth of gadgets and devices. This channel is still growing and he has a day job.
Stock? 😳
D J yep bone stock. It’s crazy how aggressive they sound from the factory
Back to dealer, better put it back in comfort mode! NAH F-THAT!!!
Annoying round camera it spoils the whole mood of the video
Sadly, the M40i suspension settings should be stiff, stiffer, stiffest! While the bumps on asphalt are not to bad, on concrete roads the car BOUNCES!
Then by the x3 m competition its amazing
why walk around the car? I thought both left and right sides are identical ?
Are you trying to be funny? 😂
LOL, won't buy that one.
Pretty much all new cars are allowed to be test driven at any dealer, what customers need to worry about is what they don't see, like sales people taking cars to redline on a cold engine during test drives. How I drive our cars is the least of any customers worry, these cars are warmed, they never hit redline, and the rpms are varied to help aid the break in period.
@@LuWeiHuang to each their own but if a salesperson wants to hotrod a M they should buy one. Just beacuse the vehicle has the capability to be driven like a perfomance vehicle does not mean customers want to buy one that has been driven in such a manner.
@@jjohnsoniaff1 I understand and feel the same way, I'm on your side. I'm just trying to convey that the way I drive dealer cars, whether it's off or on camera like this video, is not overly aggressive, Especially compared to what sales people and customers do. I do rev out the cars and drive spirited, I vary RPMs, but again never redline them, which are all good for the break in period.
JB, you should always build to order a vehicle. Never settle for options and paint. Get exactly what you want in the exact paint you want. And you do not have to worry about other people having driven the car, except from the factory when they put it on the dyno.
@@jjohnsoniaff1 He's hardly thrashing it. If someone buys a car like this, they will be doing exactly what he did in the video. Who cares if someone did it before you bought it?
