What happened
After borrowing someone else's container/harness and also forgetting his glasses before boarding the plane, this skydiver proceeded to do a 90-degree turn straight into the ground. He bounced pretty hard and broke his leg on impact -- he also lost both shoes for those of you wondering 😉.
** Why did it happen **
Low Turn
This jumper decided to do a pretty dynamic, front-riser assisted, 90-degree turn out of a sort-of stall surge at a low altitude. It looks like he didn’t have enough altitude and didn’t try to stab out of it.
Unfamiliar Gear / Lack of Proper Gear
He noted that he was borrowing someone else’s harness and forgot to bring his glasses on the jump. Both factors likely played a role in this incident.
** How could it be prevented **
Gear checks and flying the plane down
This jumper said that HE JUMPED WITHOUT HIS GLASSES. If you need corrective lenses, they should be part of your gear check on the ground. If you get on the plane without them and realize it halfway to altitude, you should fly the plane down. Not being able to see your altimeter, other canopies in the air, or (evidently!) how fast the ground is rushing up at you, puts both you and other jumpers at risk.
Get familiar with new equipment
If you’re using someone else’s gear, you shouldn’t go straight back into swooping. Take a few jumps to get comfortable with how it flies before returning to your normal routine.
Give up the swoop
One of the most important things that a lot of canopy coaches do in their courses is getting students familiar with stabbing out to abort a run. It’s a very important skill because a lot of people don’t realize how much harder it is to stab out of a dive when you’ve got some speed built up in a turn. Jumpers need to be ready to give up a run to prevent themselves from slamming into the ground like this guy did.

Thank you for uploading this! Skydivers shoudn't fear the day they want to base jump, you better fear the day you decide to start swooping!
Unfortunately for me my dream is to wingsuit base.... And I will, trust me. Also, I dismissed swooping at first but it looks like it's a nice way to add some extra fun at the end of a skydive when the main fun is over! I guess I should double fear 😁
Start swooping on borrowed gear without your glasses*
@@gm5605 no, just take some advice from ppl with experience, they will give you the best guidance
no no... base jumping is MUCH smarter than swooping......

Who said this sport was smart? 🤪
I need to get me a pair of those ejection shoes.
At least he has nice socks 😂
Well, at least he had such a nice socks 🤨

Yea, but his sister is gonna be pissed that he ruined her socks.

I could see that coming. He did not have enough experience to even attempt that. But remember, HOOK TURNS KILL!
ur mom
I have thousands of swoops and I often used to say out loud as I started my turn "at approximately 400 ft the deceased initiated a turn which he did not recover". Just to keep it in perspective.
400ft? what were you flying, not a crossbrace thats for sure
@@trading-university. no, most of my jumps were not on crossbraced canopies😄. I'm old. The vast majority of my swoops were on the old stilettos. That was back when a swoop of 200feet was a good swoop! How far are they swooping now, like a mile or something? Now aside from an occasional base jump I'm predominantly a ground dweller. (Unless you count the short free falls from rock climbing falls which I think are infinitely more scary than skydiving and base jumping.
I used to rip stupid manoeuvres in my 107 stilletto ... best performing canopy for the money maybe. I got a katana 89 after... that was a bit small. fell out of the sky bit too much.
@@donnyh3497 Just curious if you don’t mind me asking how many BASE jumps have you completed? And what type of base do you do, like regular or wingsuit or tracking suit? Just a skydiver who’ll be BASE jumping in the next year and am curious about the sport.
@@commonsense5555 I only have about 115 base jumps. No wing suit or tracking suit. My wife won't allow wing suit jumping unless I get an incurable disease. 😄 If you want to base jump you need to hook up with the local base jumpers in your area. It's a different game and you want someone showing you the ropes from packing to not burning your local objects.
His shoes came off and he survived. He is either a vampire or a warlock. Get the torches and pitchforks.
Jebus! Starting altitude was about 100ft too low. Also Nice flare at 4ft off the ground @ 42mph.
He can consider himself lucky...
Altimeter awareness ?
None
LMAO 😂 JEBUS
at least a 100ft.
... visiting jumper? air density issue? this eloy? cause ive seen 3 of those occur..smh. hot thin air.
Lucky Man. Started that way too low...obvious result. He should be thankful to be left with a broken leg and a good reminder of just how fast a stalled canopy will bite you in the arse!
Unfortunately I've seen it go the other way. My friend attempted a low swoop one day. Good skydiver, plenty of experience. He hit the ground feet first then head. Sustained massive head injuries and died in hospital. 26 years old.
If you're not high enough to swoop. Don't swoop.
So sorry for your loss
Ah man his reaction to stand up right away was sooo bad. He probably felt no pain at that moment but something just has to be broken
I can literaly feel the pain, but how can he just stand up?😂
First I was why he dont hawe shoes, then comes slomotion And I was aaaalright😂😂
He bounced so damn far!
I've done these stall surge front riser 90s onto final with less than 200 jumps, with a 150. They scare the hell outta me. There's no denying that my mind's instinct is telling me to stop what I'm doing and focus on keeping the wing level, get accuracy in the LZ dialed, and enjoy learning wingsuit flying. Thrusting my body toward the ground at a few hundred jumps just keeps looking to me like a ticking time bomb. I saw a video of a young dude pounding in, having just started his recovery arc. Died that day, possibly on impact. Swooping looks cool, til it doesn't.
This was freaking cool how did you do that trick where you eject your shoes on final!
Pound in hard enough and they self eject, ask me how i know.... lol!
Speedy recovery and blue skies 🤙
I don’t swoop and knew he was way too low when he started it.
Agreed. Waaay too low.
same same feeling
same haha
can you please explain what happened and what is swooping?
thanks
@@Gutulay Here is a good explanation of what swooping is: ( skydiveparacletexp.com/2017/11/27/swooping-skydiving/ ) In this video he made his last dive/turn to late and couldn't get horizontal before hitting the ground, check RUclips videos about swooping and see some proper performed swoops to notice how it should be done.
"Legs is good".... brain is questionable
Being there done that lol. A lot of people don't live to tell the tale after a misjudged swoop, count your blessings my man, heal fast ! Neill Schultz great comment below lol
Same, pounded in and still able to walk. With a sprained ankle and bum knee, but still jumped 7 more times before going to the dr lol. Funny what adrenaline will do
Guilty of turning myself in to a lawn dart as well, lost my shoes too. Got lucky and walked away with a bad sprain, took a few months before I could jump again. Hope you heal soon.
@@devioux4082 bad timing on my part... actually just a month out from femuring in myself.... femur, 2 pelvis, and 2 breaks in my hand. I'm really lucky. Can't wait to get back up in December though.

He didn't break his legs he stood up just fine
That is what i thought too. How can you stand on a broken leg? I broke my arm while snowboarding one time and could not even use my hand to take off the binding. A broken leg should just boucle under you. So maybe a fracture, but not broken for sure.
@@titter3648 yeah I broke my ankle earlier this year and not even really a full break and I couldn't walk on it right for a while
Swooping should be renamed Smashing into the ground as hard as possivle
Thank goodness he had safety shoes on
No altimeter needed, just hook it.
Stab out on toggles.
Oh, wait
I always watched swooping and thought, you’re just asking to get hurt.
You could describe the entire activity of sky diving this way.
Thrahl yes for sure, but I do it somewhat safely. We call it safeish lol.
It’s like anything else, proper risk management and preparation keep you safe most of the time. This guy jumped without his glasses and with an unfamiliar container.
Big Blue I didn’t read the details but I believe it. I see way more people hurt under a good canopy than anything else. I want to do it for as long as possible I guess,.
@@Thrahl Haha. Sure. Let's go with that.

I'm guessing new canopy
proly that swoop works on the old one

He did the fort nite parachute jump thing.
Swoop aloop and choop da froop
is our boy jumping in socks :')
He hit the ground so hard and so fast he bonced...wow
Iv jumped like 6 times .. i have a sloppy arch ... dude that looks like that hurt hella ! way harder landing then I did
you know you’re fucked when you fall down, get up and then stand down again.
I've never swooped. Can someone explain to me how you prevent that from happening? I assume he should have cancelled his swoop turn and when it was too late and low. But the description talks about stabbing out to abort a run? How do you stab out? How do you abort a run? What were his options before it became too late and how does he mitigate damage once it started? I assume at that angle PLF probably not helping him either.
There is no aborting once you have started but you can pull up to an extent with your rear risers... that is also how you steer, instead of using the toggles
Stab out = stab the toggles to change the pitch of the canopy and reduce the descent rate. Abort by not turning as much or changing the pitch of the canopy higher up once you realise you are low. That's either using the rear risers or toggles.
Start with more altitude. When you begin practicing you start with more than enough altitude to recover with plenty of room to spare and work your way down. This jumper started way too low. Most of the guys I know are in the 700' range to begin their turns (I live in a high altitude area about a mile above sea level so they have to account for that too)......this jumper looked like he was only 100-200' when he started the turn. Wayyyyy too low.
Rear riser input influences drive. Toggles kill drive. Try any big dive up high with a toggle or front riser, and go half flare after your heading change-you'll pitch up instantly and end the flight cycle. If you don't understand what a flight cycle is, Google Flight-1 skydiving right now. Flight cycles are bad when flying at final leg altitude.
Take a canopy course, also take all youtube comments with a grain of salt.
Better to ask a trusted coach/instructor at your DZ. Js
И вправду жестко) Удачных прыгов и мягких приземлений!)
I love the old 2015 intro
Странно как-то он управлял парашютом при посадке...
Adrenaline is one helluva drug
Братишка ты береги себя
that hurt just looking at it
Bro you hit the ground like a champ🤘glad you are alright!
That hurt my knees
lol so much accidents happened in this flying area lol
People are more robust than they look
He's lucky all he broke was a leg. Leaning forward, as swoopers do, it's all too
easy to get a bite of that terra firma.
Hook a low turn and this is the result everytime
Живой, уже хорошо!
А вообще - Swoop это "зло" (имхо)
Не знаю, но это круто. Мечтаю когда-нибудь дорасти
at what point did we transition from "parachutes are to save lives," to: "parachutes are a great way to commit suicide.?" Something got lost there.
Knocked his goddamned shoes off! 😃 Maybe if he worried less about matching green gear and more about developing skills he'd still have his shoes on his feet.
At what point do the cumulative risks set off alarm bells. Its not about being risk takers or risk averse, its about risk awareness and acting appropriately. He’s lucky he only broke a leg to wake him up, crazy fool.
ouch.. looked like a PLF more than a swoop
Очевидно было что уже на посадку и прямо....
I remember the footage is a bit old.
Classic Incident pit. Small thing like forgetting your glasses, add in a borrowed harness and thats it. You're in the incident pit good and proper. One more small thing goes wrong and you've lost the ability to recover. Stop...return back up the slope when there is still time. Even if it means failing to achieve the days goals. Not easy to learn to do, I've had some hard lessons myself, fortunately survived to sound like a know all now, but seriously ... watch for the pit. Also, I once saw a pedestrian get hit by a truck on the highway in Africa and his clothes were knocked off him. He ended up dead in dirty underwear.. I'd never believe your jeans could be knocked off you by an impact, until I saw it.
That looks like skydive dubai desert zone. The city one would be nice but its limited to people with over 1000 jumps.
Swooping looks so cool!! Lmfao
You know it's bad when the shoes come off.
Well i guess the ground got more damage than you 💪😎
Bit low there to be crankin on it like that
I liked the right 30 degree turn, just before the left turn swoop. Let's depressurize the canopy even further before a quick 90...
I have a more terrifying video for my last skydive I broke my leg. How can I send it here
Even on a wide angle lens that ground looked way too close as he started that turn.
@Man Like Barnzy Incorrect, you cretin. Wide angle lenses shallow things out and subjects appear smaller.
Uh. Ouch.

I dont get it, so what did he do wrong?
wouldn't a windsock at the landing site be a good idea? I would think it would be better to land off target then to land down wind.
This guy was way too low to go for it...
Not really, if he didnt hang on fronts so long and stabbed out, he coulda dug himself out of that one
Это не жесть, это пипец, как он жив остался на такой низкой спирали, кеды, как из пушки отстрелились, счастливчик.
LOST BOTH OF HIS SHOES !
Broken ankle or shin?
Been there different situation the pain comes charging on and just when you think this shit can't possibly get any worse it multiplies several fold. Broken leg = total nightmare. Once the AE guys get some good painkillers in you its all plain sailing.

Wow there really is nothing to do in Dubai.......
Never understood swooping...it always looks cool until it doesn't lol...and yes I have lots of jumps and a pilot's license...as skydiving goes...remember...just like malfunctions...there are those who have made mistakes...and those who will...
Holy fuck just noticed he lost both of his shoes damn
I don’t even skydive but why did they do that? It seemed like the worst possible decision in that situation especially since there was sand right next to them
