You shame us Sir! You wound us Sir!The correct answer of course is the USSR Konflikt 47 Starter Box. A T-34 with the option to take a Sonic Cannon, a light Cossack Walker, 5 Heavy Infantry, and 40 standard infantry, what else could you need Comrade?

I think I agree with this in the most part; since I like running AT Rifle teams, and I might need up to 9 of those, I really like the Winter set because I actually do sometimes need all 84 (including metal models). Plus I like the KV2, because I like heavy howitzers, and with enough inexperienced infantry you can fit it in with points, :P But I totally get why people would take the OG starter set, as it's very good for what it's designed to do. Great review as always!

My favorite starter is British Airborne, because technically I can play it as Poles, specifically General Sosabowski's Independent Parachute Brigade, in addition, the price is very good, the ratio of price to the number of models in the box

Picking a starter set in Bolt Action can be as simple as asking yourself “What do I think is the coolest?” If you like the look and feel of what you’ve bought then you’re more likely to have fun and stick with the game. Sure you’ll probably end up buying more stuff down the road but that’s part of the fun.
The only major factor I would consider when picking a starter army for a beginner is “How hard will it be to paint?” For example lots of German kits have camo uniforms that are tedious to paint, but the Afrika Korps kit can be painted up in field gray to represent generic Germans or done in Afrika Korps colors. Either way you’ll end up with an easy paint job compared to SS, Grenadiers or Fallschirmjager.

It's Nagaun the T is silent when pronouncing the name so it's Nau fawn but a g instead of an f. I owned over 60 of the things before pairing down and selling my collection but I still have all my pre WWI and WWI Mosins (22) including a rare 1916 Dragoon which was the basis used on making the M91/30 rifle. I just added a Rubicon Katyusha Studebaker and a 3D printed BA-64 with both the LMG and HMG turrets for my Soviets.

All are good sets. Prices in America can fluctuate a lot Amazon and eBay seem to have the best prices.
But the winter starter set is great for mass Soviets infantry and the tank is great in early/mid war when the Germans have very little to counter a heavy tank. Also points for easy painting as the great coats r super fast to paint up and for the flavor of you could easily use them as normal infantry and not have to go with painting them a winter theme. Plus it coming with the mmg and mortar plus full command unit is pretty awesome. It’s the most compete starter set add an artillery piece (zis3) armored car(ba10, ba64) transport options(truck, halftrack, white scout car), and a t34 76 or 85 and you’ve got an army for any timeframe.
The standard starter set is great for late war when you need a tank with a heavier AT potential against German heavy tanks the mortar is useful but adding a Soviet support box would complete the starter army. Was first set I boug it when I got into the hobby.
The1940-1943 set is actually pretty good from a historical gamer standpoint mostly horde of Russians with a pea shooter AT gun, old beat up ww1 maxim mmg (which comes with a gun shield which is actually really useful) all backed up by the one serviceable T34 in the whole sector trying to hold out against the blitzkreig halftrack and tanks steaming towards them it is quite thematic but does seem like it would take the most work to get up to or with the other starter sets.
    All in all great review.

I'm planning on getting the Soviet starter and getting the Siberians so I can have both summer and winter with my personal favorite soviet unit of WW2 the Assault sappers or engineers as warlord calls them

Mordian I beg to defer about MMGs and AT guns. They (especially AT guns) are some of the most useful units in the game

15:45 I started with the US starter set. First time in historical gaming I've played US infantry. Love the army but the starter set has too much filler. Three mmg deployed and marching. I actually do use the half-track but you have to pick up a lot of other items to make this work.
I think the best sets are US or British airborne.

do you think that the fact that you need to glue the weapons into the arms could be a pretty big problem for new players

then why did the soviets basically create the finnish armored corps by "donating" so many tanks to a hostile nation with no local industry beyond small arms, and why did Finland not become a warsaw pact buffer state after WW2?@@gerddergaertner5071

Bolt action sounds fun. A hand full of viable units and skewed lists is the only way to play.

Sounds like you're being sarcastic, but BA isn't as sweaty as Wh40k. Some tournaments demand you take a non-optimal army for the sake of historical accuracy. If you find yourself being too tryhard and not having fun, find another group.
