I did it you do need another person to hold the cables away. The bracket bolt holding the old battery down was not where his was on my f32. It was below on the right side [facing it]. Wasnt bad at all. I had one know to twist to get the compartment open.
I have the same car. It is much easier to remove the battery if you open the roof half way and leave it in that intermediary position for the duration of the battery change.
You are absolutely right. After wrestling with the liner to get it out with the top up (I was finally successful), but trying to re-install it seemed impossible. However, I discovered that by putting the top halfway down, it becomes much easier. Wish I had read your comment before I started.
I did that to remove the cover to check battery- much easier! Question- Leaving it in that half open position while removing (disconnecting power) and reinstalling the battery doesn't interfere with the operation of the top, once power is restored?
What about all the settings and radio stationes. Diden`t it forget about all of those? Wouldent it be an idea to connect another 12v battery to the charging contacts in the engine room while the changing of main battery takes place?
What bolts do i need for the terminals. Im changing my battery and the same hardware i took off isnt going on.. The bolt is spinning and i cannot tighten the bolt at all..
Bad ass design from BMW when changing the battery they certainly could have made life easier for the technician to access the panel to get into the battery housing. Great vid but I’ll pass on doing it my self..
LR Tech: Great video! BMW’s parts department said they only have a CCA 850, not the old battery CCA900. Is that going to be a problem? Can you please send me a link to buy the items to register the battery (what is the cost for device & subscription fee)? I am thinking about getting a battery from Costco & register it myself. Thx a bunch!
I already did this battery replacement by myself on my M4 convertible, the fact is that is not an easy task. What I don't understand from the designer, is why there is an opening on the left side for nothing, and not the battery side !!!
You did it the wrong way. I’ll make a video and show you how it’s done. UPDATE: Watch the video just posted by “F Thirty3”. He does it the right way. Saves you lots of time and no huffing and puffing to pull that liner out of your trunk.
I have 2017 330IX. I bought the same battery, change it, and register it. The second day, I tried to start my car. I found that my car battery was total done. The car security system did not even work.
This is a MINUS for BMW !!! I have my 4 series for 5 years, I have never seen my battery... very badly placed !/ Das ist ein Minus für BMW !!! Ich habe meinen 4er seit 5 Jahren, ich habe meine Batterie nie gesehen ... sehr schlecht platziert !

Does it need to be reprogramed as new in the system?
It does
