Timing! I’m painting a Mando helmet right now, and this came at just the right time. I went to a local car tinting service and asked for an off cut. I was expecting a piece about the size of a sheet of paper. They gave me a few feet. More than enough for what I need. Seems once you say “I’m making a Mandalorian helmet”, everyone wants to help you. Thanks for this video.
new sub, i believe out of all cosplay sites and videos this is literally showing me how to do something. i want a full on samus armor lights and all if i can. hope to see more of this
I’m so glad I found you on tik tok your tutorials helped me a lot in picking a printer and how to get started in 3D printing. Thank you so much for the helpful content!
That Mando helmet in white is sick! Thanks for the tips Frank! I had been waiting for this one since you alluded to it. I'm totally doing the velcro attachment method.
As always your advice is amazing. I won't lie i could not get a visor to look good with the film I bought, probably as I bought a £6 roll from amazon. Didn't even know there was a film on it until I watched your vlog, and you mentioned the tape trick 👍🏻 anyway I went looking for other solutions before buying a better quality film. I tried car rear lens smoke, sprayed on about 5 coats, and once it dried it was transparent. It's not as cost effective as the film but for me it was easier. You're a legend, Thanks.
Another excellent tutorial/demonstration. I really appreciate and enjoy all your videos. Thank you for sharing your experience and passion that you obviously have for your craft.
window tint thats genius! ima just cut up water bottles and heat form them! Edit / Update : it worked really good and saved me a bunch of money HOWEVER make sure to actually follow the tutorial and not just "wing it" My first time did also come out bubbly. and i did forget the overhang so i had glue parts on my visor 100% my fault though. i also learned that rubing a bit of water + dishsoap on the inside before you wear it will prevent it from fogging up from breathing. also i ended up using one of those clear boxes from gummy bears and it worked pretty well. make sure to test beforehand if you can heatform it. also highly recommend investeing in a neck fan / ventilator it is a LIFE SAVER! all in all genius tutorial saves you money like everything needs practice.
I’m currently making The Lingering Will armor from Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and the part that’s stumping me is the visor, this definitely made it easier to understand how to approach it

Love seeing stuff like this, late to the game but another few bits of advice for the window tint stuff. If you can, get a hold of some air release tail light tint, might not be as dark but stack them like stated in the video. You'll have such an easier time applying this to the visors with less air bubbles. If you ever get them and can't waste any tint, use your blade to poke the bubble, apply a touch of heat from the heat gun and work the air out to the pinhole. Another touch would be to also have tac rags, taking the protective plastic causes a lot of static, especially with acrylic. You have no idea how much dust that will attract and will cause air bubbles and horrible specs. Best part, just practice and try have fun. Rome wasn't built in a day. Hope this helps at least someone.
Another life saver, Frank! I was struggling with how to make the visor for a mando helmet I'm making and this window tint thing looks like what I need. Btw, I just realize it's funny (in a good way) how you always say at the start of all your videos "this is not a step-by-step tutorial, I just wanna give you guys all the info..." and then you do precisely that.... by walking us through the entire process!! xDD

Hey Frank, I used to work in signage mate. Make your life easier, use SOAPY water on your tint it moves around easier and when you hone the bubbles it will finally "catch" and look great.
Thanks for the video , i tested acrylic sheet 2mm for mando visor its simply very hard to bend correctly , now i will try polycarbonate sheet looks more flexible
I was going to use an empty soda bottle, I cleaned it so it wouldn't stick, cut it real nice, but to flatten it out from it's inward curve I heated it up and applied pressure, but all that did was warp and ruin the plastic. Don't do what I did. and this video was helpful, thank you
hey i came from your tiktok. this is really helpful. ive had plans to 3d print a mando armor set. your tips have really encouraged me even more to do so. thank you
if anyone wants an easier way of tinting they have spray tint in a can, i used it before for doing tail light on my cargo van. best thing is you can pick how dark. Thank you! I have to say tho spray tint wouldn’t work too well. I used it all the time at my old auto customization shop and it’s not clear enough to allow good line of sight. It would be very hazy and foggy they close to your eyes.
I'm printing my helmet now, thanks to your Mando helmet video I was able to dial in my time and pla usage. This video is great and will def save me time troubleshooting my kit build! Are you planing on doing the armor as well for mando and Samus?

I would like to see through, but without being seen from the outside. Could stacking the layers of colored vinyl give this effect? Or so I also thought of using led foam. But it's a first time for me… Any advice would be appreciated and greatly appreciated
if you haven't figured it out by now, there's 1 way window tint available for cheap, or there's "tint in a can" that has a good effect but more for display pieces, or there's reflective tint that @galacticarmory uses for his star wars/halo helmet builds that's pretty cool and works in conjunction with dyeing the visor
Question: Can you use the heat gun on the plastic if the tint has already been applied? Will it cause any damage to the tint or mess it up? It'd make it easier for what I'm planning if you could but I wanted to make sure
I'm a little late to the party but I'm working on my own Varia Suit cosplay and I'm cutting the visor out of the visor of a motorcycle helmet.
