Ian smiling in the back at 20:29 when Courtney still can’t pronounce “Worcestershire” is too precious
I loved noticing that
20:26 would be a better time stamp. To hear her say it and then his reaction.
Best part was Ian and Anthony barely holding back giggles at Courtney botching the pronunciation of Worcestershire
As a Brit every time she said it felt like I was being shot, tbf tho it’s our fault for spelling it nothing like how it’s supposed to be pronounced

Chosen: Oh! I'm sensing a disturbance!
It's killing me that this first person was like, "this soup is too bland. So I added three of the blandest foods there are, and then also maple syrup instead of the lemon juice that would have actually been zesty" like 😭 stop being creative, yoURE BEING TOO CREATIVE--
I make "crazy" cake all the time, but I know it as wacky cake. It was a cake.from the depression when eggs and milk were expensive. You can substitute the vegetable oil for olive oil or avocado oil but it'll be more dense and not as light and fluffy. Still a super moist delicious cake! 😊
I mean, if they liked it that's all that matters.
Now let's all agree...to never be creative again.

@@HenryGoobomg I quoted that too 😂😂
Fun fact : the crazy cake is not fully brown-colored but it has a reddish tint to it thanks to the reaction between cocoa powder, baking soda and white vinegar. That’s how red velvet cakes were made back in the day until they started adding food coloring. Bakers do add white vinegar to cakes from time to time and it definitely doesn’t alter the taste.
the baking soda and vinegar neutralize each other so you won't taste either.
@@shawnw8717Baking soda is the reason to add vinegar even, baking soda requires an acid to work and become co2.
omg science!
Real red velvet cake is still made that way. If you buy it from a bakery. Only the box mixes have food coloring.
@@toomanyopinions8353 Most of the recipes I've seen for it online include food dye. A lot of professionals also add food dye. People have become conditioned to think that red velvet cake needs to be really red and so you have to do it or people will be less likely to buy it. It's also added because only certain kinds of cocoa powder turn red with that reaction so you need the dye for it to be red at all
I think Detective Courtney is up there on my list of favorite Courtney characters. Can we get a Redacted and Sarah Christ episode?

Not gonna lie, I love Ian's willingness to critique the original recipe. I keep wondering if there's just, like, a strong bias to strongly prefer the original recipe over the modified one, so Ian being willing to be like "Eh, it's not The Greatest" makes me feel better on that front.
I noticed this but Courtney is willing to say a recipe shouldn't exist and Ian is willing to give it a try. I feel like Ian gets that different things work for different people while Courtney wants only what works for her.

the reason coffee was substituted for the water is that coffee in chocolate cake tends to give it additional moisture after baking, hence why the gang says "this is drier" when they ate the original. You don't always taste the coffee flavour, but the effect of the added moisture in the finished product is just rich and tangible.
Did they mention what flour was used for the cake? Since it's all gluten free, I wonder if it was just regular GF baking flour? I'd love to make the recipe how they did on the show, after their rave reviews!
@@CowWithACape as someone with celiacs my whole life (gluten free) and a baker, there are soooo many different kinds of gf flours out there - I'd say out of all the GF options out there (besides making your own which is a whole other thing) King Arthurs all purpose gf flour is by far the best. If you can't find that maybe bobs red mill. Most gf flours out there are a combination of rice flours, potato starch, tapioca starch, etc, etc, so they are all quite different and simply using just rice flour or just something else usually doesn't work. I'd also recommend the cookbook How Can it be Gluten Free; it's far and away one of the best ones out there.
If you aren't gluten free though, regular flour should be perfectly fine but in that case I'd tweak the recipe to use less liquid (milk or water) and add more fats (like butter or oil).
(sorry if that was way more information than you asked for 😅)
I love the details! I'm not GF but I like to have some recipes in stock for different dietary needs. I've used King Arthur's AP GF flour and of course almond flour for lots of desserts that normally call for almond it. Thanks for the update, I'll have to experiment with what I can find!

speaking of coffee, I usually make a little bit of instantcoffee to do a 'coffee wash' on things i'm gonna bake. primarily if it's bread or buns or some such 'nonsweet' items.

Ooohhh Ian mentioning escape room just gave me an idea for "Cast vs Crew: Smosh Escape Room"

I love that the intro feels like two dads playing with their future theatre kid. Ian is way too committed to his role while Anthony seems like he can't stop himself from laughing at their antics
“And they’re around me and their shirts are off” ☠️ I love Courtney
I love that Anthony as Courtney is doing their thing is laughing but Ian is so used to it he’s like “😐👍🏼”
I hope the intros continue getting more and more unhinged every episode.
You gotta appreciate Courtney's ability to stay in character for so many episodes of this ridiculous show. So funny.
Is this a bot? They're not playing any characters, they're just putting a slight detective edge into a food show. Not like they're auditioning for Joker. They're undeniably good at acting but they're literally just putting on a detective hat.
I love that Anthony laughs so genuinely at all the cast members. It’s very “dad is playing with us” coded
I love, and I mean LOVE, how excited Ian was to find the dossier behind the painting. I don't know if I'll ever get over how much happier he is in this era of Smosh. Also, I love this series.

You guys should count up on each case! Rather than have each first case be 001, each case should build off the numbers from the last case, that way eagle-eyed viewers can keep track of how many total cases this show has covered.

Would LOVE a Smosh does and escape room video, I know there are some great ones in LA but they could also maybe make their own?
Shayne and Damien should create one! And have Arasha, Chance, Amanda and Angela try to solve it! And/or Keith!
Game Changer made their green room into an escape room and then trapped their cast in there.
Oh my god that episode went 0 to UNHINGED so fast, it was total wonderful chaos lmao
I’m pretty sure they have in the past
i think it would be super fun if they all had to do the escape room as one of their characters!
For the last one, vinegar is commonly used in cakes in combination with baking soda as a leavening agent. It helps to make the cake rise by reacting with the baking soda, creating carbon dioxide gas bubbles that expand to give a cake a fluffy and light texture. It also reacts with cocoa powder. It’s commonly used in red velvet recipes along with natural cocoa powder and buttermilk to create red velvet color without the use of food coloring. In this recipe, the vinegar boosts the flavor of the cocoa powder, making the cake have a more intense chocolate-y taste. The more you know!! 🌈
how happy ian was when he got up to find the files brought me so much joy. this is a fun group!

IAN’s analysis skills are actually so impressive and he looks so good here
From what i have noticed of Anthony over these few months back that, Ian is a comedian that works great with scripts and punchlines and joke and Anthony works better with physical comedy like in TNTL 122 his most skits are physical comedy and improv
And this what makes them such a successful duo they fulfill each ohter in their comedy, they are like yin and yang ☯️ each containing power to do both styles but better in one.
This has been my TED talk on smosh duo
Marcus directing, let's go!
B. Dylan Hollis made one of those vinegar cakes, but his recipe called it "wacky" instead of "crazy." And if I remember rightly, it was from WWI or the Great Depression, or some other time when eggs and milk were hard for a lot of families to obtain.

Courtney always eats in this show, both literally and metaphorically. I really hope this show gains more of a following. It truly deserves it
some day soon when ian retires of old age and anthony goes back to guam to fight laser dolphins, i hope Courtney inherits the channel. Both Courtney and Shayne are incredibly talented in the realm of RUclips and especially with the cast and crew that they interact with, it's insane

The water substitute in the last one actually crossed my mind (to avoid total spoilers) they most likely did it because a lot of people add the powdered instamix version to help bring out the flavor of cocoa, but it sounded crazy to me because that's a lot of extra work to prepare for something that's a substitute for water lol.
