RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic Both died young. The only one of the three sisters that survived until her end of service was RMS Olympic (1911-1934). Britannic never saw service as a Ocean Liner due to the outbreak of ww1. Britannic's construction was near complete in 1914 when war broke out and her interiors were then striped during conversion into a hospital ship. She sank in 1916 when she struck a mine in the Aegean sea.
This is TRULY incredible. Those whistles sat at the bottom of the North Atlantic for 87 years. YET, they still survive. The truly extraordinary thing about Titanic is that we all who admire and love her, keep her alive through our passions. Incredible.
The wreck is located in the Abyssal plain ( 12,600 feet below sea level) which has low levels of oxygenated water. This slows down the usual processes of decay and prevents most marine organisms from being able to survive there ( ex: shipworm). The only major issue the wreck has is the iron consuming bacteria that is destroying the structure of the wreck. The whistle is made of bronze which is one of the longest lasting metals made by man .
@@raymondhutchinson7156 I do wonder something though. Your description sounds well thought out & makes sense. But I wonder how susceptible the bronze would be to salt water & pressure. And if that may have altered the sound slightly.
@@jaredbailey8237 The only thing I can think of that would destroy bronze is if the copper in the bronze reacts to chlorides in soil or in certian bodies of water. This destruction is known as Bronze Disease and over centuries would turn bronze into a green powder. Its been found on numerous ancient artifacts like Roman coins and such.

These tests were done at fairly low pressure. They only had a shop compresser which could only hit about 150 PSI, but the whistles were designed to blow with more pressure than that. The public sounding, although still with compressed air and not steam, was done at her full operating pressure, so it was a much stronger blow that the crowds heard in 1999. However, these weaker tests are haunting and beautiful and sad. Like Titanic crying out, wanting to see the sun again.

Closest I came in touch with Titanic was reaching over into exhibit ( I'm 6ft tall ) and thumping a giant piece of the hull that was on exhibit in Los Angeles... To hear that metal resonate from me striking it brought it closer to reality for me...
Thank you very much, this is so beautiful and yet so heartbreaking. I cried alot while watched your video. It makes me think of her sinking. Titanic 111 year anniversary is different this time. RIP. Innocent souls. 💔🥀🚢🌊
After almost a century down there and she was finally able to talk to the world again. Wonder if they would ever make a replica of it so that her legacy can live on through her sound.
Thanks for sharing this video with us Spammals. It was 'bitter-sweet' hearing the Titanic's horn ring out once again after her fateful maiden voyage. Just nice to know that there are so many people worldwide who love the Titanic as much as I do. Keep up the great work!
I heard them live in St. Paul for the event described in the video. I doubt that anyone there cared that they weren’t sounded with steam - their voice was amazingly chilling and moving. People next to me did, indeed, start to cry.
Awesome! I’m so glad they brought them back and restored them. Not to shabby for sitting at the bottom of the sea for a century!. They are the last surviving voices. And they will likely out-live all of us with a little TLC. Cheers.
It is beautiful to see everyone commenting about the Titanic like she's not just a ship, an object, but a person. An old friend. At the time, she symbolized human supremacy. Humans are capable of everything. If they are not capable of doing something today, they will be able to in the future. Humans created a Queen of the ocean. She was such a beautiful ship. She still is today on her seabed. She is now the guardian of all wrecks that lay in oceans, as a reminder of all the suffering they went through on the day of their death. She had a huge impact when she sank and revolutionized the world of navigation by installing better rules and precautions. Her death was not in vain. She's still so important today. It is beautiful to see people still remembering her and being interested in her. She symbolizes dreams, hopes, ambitions but also death, ice, pain and suffering. Life. To hear her whistles again symbolizes rebirth.
titanic was crying 😭 ..the night she hit the iceberg n felt let down by the arrogance of Bruce ismay who had no disregard n no thought for titanic's crew n passengers n children yet still pushed for more speed ............God bless titanic n her lost souls n crew xx rest in heaven xx
Simply amazing. ! never in my wildest dreams would I think I'd ever hear the haunting sounds of the Titanic's whistles. My hat is off to these men for bringing these whistles back to life. To live all these years after first hearing about the Titanic as a 10 year old is something I'll never unhear and witness. Thank you gentlemen for an experience of a life time. I'm deeply touched .
Wow man thanks for uploading!! That is incredible!! I have been a fan of the RMS Titanic since I was 6 years old and hearing her whistles now is indescribable and emotional at the same time.
I was a Board of Trustees member for Titanic International Society. I helped open many Exhibitions and was on the 1998 Expedition for the Big Piece. when It arrived in Boston it was a major part of my life as well. I Knew Tarn for a few years at most of the exhibitions. then the day to hear the Whistles were a big part of my life as well. I will never forget the day when I was there to hear and see this like the thousands of people in St. Paul. it took place in front of the old train station. a day I will always treasure as I have this on tape and film. thanks Tarn for this.
Tarn, I'll never forget that day. And yes, most of us were in tears. It was probably one of the most poignant moments in my life. We were honored to be part of the "unofficial crew.". And even though we didn't get the opportunity to touch the whistles, it was still truly an amazing experience. I also remember tromping through the Sub-Zero temperatures following George, our inimitable leader, trying to find that stupid restaurant. LOL. That was truly one of the great moments.
It is just...so...i cant even discribe it, it its so Sad and Wonderfull at once...the Sound of a long lost Beast...a Steal Behemoth,Screaming up one last Time, this, this just...i am literaly Crying right now...
I wonder if they polished them so they shone bright again? That's what I did with my old scooter bell, it was 13 years old and I polished it, I don't remember when it was that shiny! Love the video and working their way from the small chambers to the large one, and finally the whole thing. Love Titanic ever since I was very young, hearing her voice is something I never thought I'd see
I think that the original Titanic should remain separate from Titanic 2. They aren't the same. Titanic, is old, and it has a story, while on the other hand this newer ship will have no history, and no reputation, and no story. It wouldn't deserve the old whistle.
Amazing, just amazing! This made me cry when I hear titanic speak again, so chilling and so beautiful! Thanks spammals for this wonderful video, it touched my heart.
It's a little backwards that the original whistles can be heard with only a little searching, but the replicas being sounded on steam not so much. Thanks for sharing this video.
Spammals...i cried when i heard her whistles...it was Titanic was crying out to us and telling us what happen her, thank you for posting this Spammals. Btw the Normandie's whistles are similiar to Titanic's, don't you think?

If steam was pressurized instead of compressed air you would here her actual voice more loud yet it sent chills down my spine for the whistle to be sounded every since she sank we can hear her still crying for help but it’s to late she already went down all that was left was her vocal cords and compressed air flowing through her vocal cords and the feeling of sadness flooding the room at a fast paste
Wonderful! I took my nieces to the Titanic exhibit the day of the sounding. It was amazing to hear the ships whistle. After all those years, I can still see it in my mind. I can only wonder what tonal changes there would be if live steam had been used.
In 1977, I got the book "A Night To Remember" and was fascinated with the Titanic ever since. When the Titanic display came to our town I saw the steam whistles, they were just within reach, so I reached up and touched them, making contact with a part of the ship after all those years was a great feeling and something I will always treasure.
Very powerful. I remember watching a documentary in which Bill Sauder described the fragrance of the Saalfeld perfume vials and how real it made it for him. To hear, smell, or touch something you could previously only see is bound to be moving.
they are! they reverse engineered the whistle sounds using these tests just with the pitch lowered a bit because steam is lower pitch in whistles compared to air, you can hear it in the Britannic Real Time Sinking video
They said they actually are not using it as there is two much of a difference between steam and air. they are using there own custom made steam train whistle
Hearing this man refer to the sound of Titanic's whistles as a "dying sound, or a sound of anguish" really hit home with me. I have been in love with Titanic and her story for the last 34 years and I can never get enough, but the true story didn't really hit home any harder until he referred to the sound of her whistles having been blown almost 100 years later as the sound of dying.
As long can remember reading about historical ships my two favorites are RMS Carpathia and the USS Olympia one saved the lives of the RMS Titanic the kind part of history that should have been scrapped years ago its still an amazing a warship of that era still survives the flagship of the battle of Manila fun American Spanish War of 1898
Two points. Firstly, steam makes a difference sound from that made by air, orignal to the difference in their densities. Secondly, it’s not the pressure required, but the sheer volume of gas, at the working pressure, which in Titanic’s case was surprisingly low. 180psi? I forget. They are wise not to try to use steam, on the original whistles, because prolonged immersion in saltwater, causes brass to de-zincify. Or break down.
Very emotional. To think when these were last heard and the circumstances which they were used. Close your eyes and just imagine what it was like being on deck of the Titanic.
no no no, this is compressed air. what you should imagine is the titanic's whistle on STEAM, which would sound much better. (as far as i know the normandie used the same whistle as the titanic, though i'm not 100% sure) ruclips.net/video/C3BJ8DsJdVE/видео.html
Titanic, along with her two sisters, was built to survive. She didn't survive the iceberg and stay above the surface, But if you think about it, it's pretty hard to stay alive 2 miles under the atlantic with Bacteria slowly making your body deteriate, isn't it? She DID survive. That's why these whistles are still blowing after all this time.
Just imagine that it's April 10th, 1912 and the largest ship in the world is leaving port on her maiden voyage filled with passengers and crew. The quayside is PACKED with people and well-wishers waving. This beautiful man-made structure begins a life of her own and starts to nudge away from the quayside with the help of tugs. Everyone's waving, crying, laughing, smiling, and standing in awe as this beautiful ship sounds her gigantic whistles and she just looks absolutely majestic. She is the sign of her country's achievements, and everyone is proud of her. Then she sinks 4 days later with the loss of 1,503 souls and she is lost forever. The world mourns. Still such a sad story over 110 years later.
I really like the videos that you make like this! It had the same atmosphere to it as the Titanic CQD video that you put together last year - is is only a once a year thing that you put together a Titanic tribute like this?

They have the same whistle. its just that titanic's whistle was rusted, cracked, and blown on air. If you want to see steam, check here ruclips.net/video/yjQPJQb6xMw/видео.html&ab_channel=AviationBledsoeProductions
Its like you can hear the screams....her screams and the screams of thousands.
This is amazing. I never knew ocean liner whistles were so large and heavy but it makes sense they would be. I didn't know these whistles were salvaged and they still seem to work perfectly. Amazing video!
Closest I came in touch with Titanic was reaching over into exhibit ( I'm 6ft tall ) and thumping a giant piece of the hull that was on exhibit in Los Angeles... To hear that metal resonate from me striking it brought it closer to reality for me...
7:20 "Do it fairly quickly. Don't let it go down too long." *proceeds to hold it down really long and has to be told to stop.
Thank you very much, this is so beautiful and yet so heartbreaking. I cried alot while watched your video. It makes me think of her sinking. Titanic 111 year anniversary is different this time. RIP. Innocent souls. 💔🥀🚢🌊
Her voice cries…😢 because she’s forever frozen in time
She speaks to us again
After almost a century down there and she was finally able to talk to the world again.
Wonder if they would ever make a replica of it so that her legacy can live on through her sound.
yes they made a few actually to my knowledge I think 3 sets 2 wich are in exhibits and one that sits in a warehouse in wisconsin
This is the saddest and most beautiful thing I have ever heard
Thanks for sharing this video with us Spammals. It was 'bitter-sweet' hearing the Titanic's horn ring out once again after her fateful maiden voyage. Just nice to know that there are so many people worldwide who love the Titanic as much as I do. Keep up the great work!
I heard them live in St. Paul for the event described in the video. I doubt that anyone there cared that they weren’t sounded with steam - their voice was amazingly chilling and moving. People next to me did, indeed, start to cry.
The lady is crying
This is so emotional
Titanic calling back from the past she had a good set of lungs on her RIP. gone but not forgotten.
Awesome! I’m so glad they brought them back and restored them. Not to shabby for sitting at the bottom of the sea for a century!. They are the last surviving voices. And they will likely out-live all of us with a little TLC. Cheers.
great video spammals, didn't expect this kind of a video tbh, but it feels good to plug off from the games from time to time :)
GameGabe good awnser
WE HEAR YOU GIRL 😢
Definitely!
over 25 years have passed and being in that room still stands as one of the most amazing moments of my life
The voice of Anna, the Princess of the Ocean, finally comes forth after over a century of silence
titanic was crying 😭 ..the night she hit the iceberg n felt let down by the arrogance of Bruce ismay who had no disregard n no thought for titanic's crew n passengers n children yet still pushed for more speed ............God bless titanic n her lost souls n crew xx rest in heaven xx
He didn’t say, but the whistles were recovered from the wreck in 1993.
This is too good. If I was alive when they sounded it in MN in 1999 and if I was there, I would simply break down and cry
Tarn,
I'll never forget that day.
I cannot thank you enough for recording and posting this outstanding video
My Whippet woke up at that strangely mournful howl. There is soul in that howl.
I wonder if they polished them so they shone bright again? That's what I did with my old scooter bell, it was 13 years old and I polished it, I don't remember when it was that shiny! Love the video and working their way from the small chambers to the large one, and finally the whole thing. Love Titanic ever since I was very young, hearing her voice is something I never thought I'd see
They should put the whistles on the Titanic 2 if it ever happeneds.
no as they will never be blown again as they could be damaged the last blow was in Minnesota seen here ruclips.net/video/1_vRx4kdpeo/видео.html
I think very good replicas could be made of them. You could even use the originals to cast a mould.
@@RenaissanceEarCandy they already made them ! They are in Vegas
I think that the original Titanic should remain separate from Titanic 2. They aren't the same. Titanic, is old, and it has a story, while on the other hand this newer ship will have no history, and no reputation, and no story. It wouldn't deserve the old whistle.
@@a_lbymccool1478 but a replica of them would be fine :)
I've been wanting to hear these tests since Tom mentioned them on the Britannic rts podcast, Thanks Dan!
Oh my word, I have no words! It's incredible! Thank you so much for letting us have This privilege! It means a lot!

Or it was just the fact they didnt have enough air pressure lol
Also 20+ years manufacturing difference from titanic, but Normandie can give a good impression. If you'd really like to hear the whistlew withen same/similure year built, Check out Aquitania ruclips.net/video/dDzPIJrLYWA/видео.html
And Mauretania www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwVAD...

I don't think it would've handled so much pressure that well, especially considering the fact that it sat in salt water for almost a century
Wonderful! I took my nieces to the Titanic exhibit the day of the sounding. It was amazing to hear the ships whistle. After all those years, I can still see it in my mind. I can only wonder what tonal changes there would be if live steam had been used.
Beautiful video! This is what we need to keep the memory of those who perished that fateful April night alive!
THANK U GUYS FOR UR HARD WORK... GOD DAMN I LOVED TITANIC NOW GOT TO HEAR IT
Very powerful. I remember watching a documentary in which Bill Sauder described the fragrance of the Saalfeld perfume vials and how real it made it for him. To hear, smell, or touch something you could previously only see is bound to be moving.
Titanic is out of Breath.. Titanic is Crying.. I hope they Can Remake the Titanic.. I want a new titanic for the Titanic's Sake
amazing to hear Titanic whistle again... after more than a hundreed years
Well, Titanic H&G can use these!
they are! they reverse engineered the whistle sounds using these tests just with the pitch lowered a bit because steam is lower pitch in whistles compared to air, you can hear it in the Britannic Real Time Sinking video
They said they actually are not using it as there is two much of a difference between steam and air. they are using there own custom made steam train whistle
The sad part is they aren't even hearing them to their true potential. Sounds like ghost of its voice. Truly amazing they even emit sound honestly.
Gives me chills hearing this!
Very emotional. To think when these were last heard and the circumstances which they were used. Close your eyes and just imagine what it was like being on deck of the Titanic.
no no no, this is compressed air.
what you should imagine is the titanic's whistle on STEAM, which would sound much better.
(as far as i know the normandie used the same whistle as the titanic, though i'm not 100% sure)

Hey spamals I'm going to the titanic museum in Liverpool! Today I can't wait!!!
Flash Jeff21 That's awesome!
I'm in Liverpool right now! I went to the museum today and it was cool
Wow that's great,is it a travelling museum o re permanent,I'd like to go see if please get back to me
I went last September. Lots of stuff belonging to Ismay. Love Liverpool. Love Titanic.
It makes me wonder if anyone was actually struck by the whistles when the funnel came down onto those innocent souls. Bone chilling.
Titanic, along with her two sisters, was built to survive. She didn't survive the iceberg and stay above the surface, But if you think about it, it's pretty hard to stay alive 2 miles under the atlantic with Bacteria slowly making your body deteriate, isn't it?
She DID survive. That's why these whistles are still blowing after all this time.
just hearing the whistles on camera is great. Thanks for posting this.
It's an amazing thing that you gave us as a gift a bit of that magic ship. Thank you so much Spammals, I love how you examine the Titanic facts and how you show us that magical tapes and give us a glimpse of the ship of dreams. Thank you so much, this is a great gift to us, truly.
