Hmm..that's too bad. I got a 2024 SE last summer and just love it! Such a fun car to do all my daily driving in. My thought/plan was to drive this for as long as I could then slide into the newer J01.
Thanks for this news. I was actually strongly considering J05, but was worried about the longevity of the service & sparepart availability. Hearing that Mini has no plan to produce J05 in Oxford kind of made me reconsider. Such a shame, I was totally smitten! Please do more newsvid like this!
Appreciate the response. Btw we wouldn’t be so quick to write off the J05 as a good option in the near term. Especially since service is negligible on an EV. That said if we had to guess, we’d expect something similar from MINI from Oxford in a few years.
Went to the Mini Factory 10 days ago, and saw the factory they have built for the Mini EV. Looks well advanced, they spoke of the Mini EV being built there in Oxford.
Good call-out. That’s what makes it so difficult for companies like MINI and tariffs. It’s not necessarily where the car is produced but also where the parts are sourced.
@@MotoringFile exactly what I meant to say. I own an MINI Electric 2022 model. love the design it keeps the heritage. unfortunately, the new MINI doesnt😓 it might not be a bad idea to cancel the plan to produce it in Oxford. Oxford should produce 100% pure blood MINI without undesirable parts made in other countries. But well…
The Renault R5 was an absolute surprise and gratefully so, I love MiNi and still due, yet was absolutely discouraged by their latest offerings’ lack of top notch UI/UX and driving engagement as per credible RUclips car reviewers. Time for MiNi to truly step it up, please do MiNi, we the fans want you around forever.
I visited Plant Oxford in April '24 and, as part of our tour, we were shown the huge factory extension that was being built, ostensibly, for J01/J05. As you mentioned, I think the Renault 5/Alpine A290 twins - plus the FIAT Grande Panda, has forced BMW to reconsider. The platform for J01/J05 isn't delivering the range or value that the competition is offering… and I bought the F66 (replacing an F56), because the electric models didn't interest me at all. The shift in the general marketplace, and recent changes in the US, means that BMW/MINI need more hybrid cars… so my bet is on J01/J05 being phased out before 2030, with replacement hybrid cars being built at Plant Oxford. I think that the Countryman range badly needs a plug-in hybrid model, too.
Can't be good for MINI when they invest money into a new model that can't be sold in the originally intended markets. If they have to change their models, it comes at a cost. In addition their consumers might not be patient and might buy a vehicle elsewhere. They should have announced this news with a commitment to continuing to electrify the Cooper for the US market.
Have had our J01 for 6 weeks, absolutely love it, it’s by far the best small EV available in Australia at the moment
I like this format for MotoringFile, please do more of these

No question it will be but it won’t be technically the J01
The J05 is produced in Oxford and the J01 is still coming to Oxford probably next year so who’s your source
Love the content, dude, I dig the glasses, can you share what brand they are pr where to get a pair?
Appreciate it 🙏 the glasses are from Moscot.
just as you mentioned Renault 5, it’s a very unique design, just like F56
but its not made in Europe completely its battery is still Chinese

I’d wait for actual deliveries of the Renault before using it a “benchmark”
True however the first reviews are consistently excellent.

WHAT? I guess production may go to S. Carolina, USA?
All the rumored details are in the article.
Sales of the 2025 mini Cooper in Canada are horrible
