Johnny was never held accountable for his actions growing up because of his talent. Was never mentally mature enough to handle everything thrown at him. Sad story
Honestly if Johnny would’ve been held accountable during college and high school years he probably would’ve turned out to be a better pro please the browns trying to push him directly in to the starting role was a terrible decision on their part
Johnny didn't have the "necessities" physically or emotionally. And the worst Browns decision - ordered by their clueless owner- was to draft him. Maybe the biggest jerk in the history of Cleveland sports.
I've long said you should declare for the draft as early as possible instead of staying in school longer. You can go back and finish your degree any time, but if you're hurt in college and it ends your career, you're SOL. This video makes me reconsider that position. He just wasn't mentally ready for the NFL. (Getting drafted by Cleveland, aka football purgatory, didn't help.)
I said the same thing. But some of these issues stem from a lack of discipline in childhood. You could tell as soon as the kid got to high school, he could’ve gotten away with murder.
What really happened is that he wanted to party more than he wanted to play football. He started hanging around Lebron, Drake,, etc and thought he was "Mr tough Guy". So obnoxious.
The thing about the NFL is they're ALL great, standout athletes. Being a great standout just gets you in the door. Having the discipline to be a film dork AND put in mega workouts during the off-season is what separates ok players from stars.
Nice video. As a Steelers fan I always enjoyed watching Johnny Football. I could always count on Cleveland to find a way to come through for me twice a season. I want to thank the Browns organization for drafting Manziel. I think Cleveland should take him back…in case the janitor slips and gets hurt.
Wow. What a sad story. Thank you for making this video. I only became interested in the NFL when Joe Burrow began playing so I don't know all this history.
The Aggies had 5 players that would go on to be first round picks in the NFL during the period that Johnny M. played there. 2012 was the first year that the Aggies played in the SEC so my guess is that their boosters helped with recruitment $$$$$.
I remember listening to NFL Radio hearing Bill Polion say what a high quality character Nohnny had how he knew the Manziel family and that Johnny was a sure bet.
If he had kept his head on straight, he would have been competing against the likes of Mahomes, Burrow etc stats wise. It's a shame the path he went down. He's only 30 years old and had he kept his head on straight, he would have been generational in the league and perhaps an SB appearance or win by now
This is the classic example of being a professional athlete doesn’t make you a professional. It’s easy to see all the external tangible traits a guy has the 40 yd dash the vertical the arm strength agility etc all that is great but it’s the mental part that truly makes or breaks a player. Being a successful pro in any sport requires truly maniacal levels of dedication to constantly getting better. No longer unless you’re a Giannis Mahomes Mike Trout kinda player are you the best player on the field regardless. Everyone in these leagues is good and getting better. If you are not focused on honing your craft dedicating time to studying film developing chemistry with your teammates and becoming smarter and more mature you’re done. Johnny Football 🏈 cared about partying being a superstar and living the high life the game was just the avenue to achieve that fame. Guys with that mindset that careless idgaf attitude almost never succeed because there will always be someone better or more committed to being great than them
Or get drafted by any team with bad line protection, only the strongest, fastest, biggest defenders get drafted into the NFL, most of the defenders you go against in college aren't going to make it to the NFL.
What happen to Johnny Manziel 😮? It’s call the Cleveland browns 😮 the Detroit lions of the AFC , the moment he was drafted by the browns that was the kiss of death , just ask baker mayfield 😮
Not every college wanted Manziel, it was quite the opposite. Texas denied him and the only reason A&M wanted him was because Oregon offered him a scholarship.
He failed for a few reasons.1: he didn’t work when he got to the pros.2: he had substance abuse issues.3: he was drafted by the browns.4: he was slow in the pros
He didn’t work in the NFL because he didn’t run the plays or hit the receivers. He went Johnny Football, which meant that any game plan or plays called were pointless. Manziel was not tolerant of a rush. He wouldn’t stay in the pocket to make a read. At the snap he spun around, rolled outside and then waited for a receiver to get really wide ass open. His style worked in college. In the NFL not a chance.
Manziel was a disaster in the CFL as well. Canada was pulling for him but he was rally bad and he got banned from the CFL...not sure why ??? Does anyone know ?
He was just a little boy playing kids ball in college but in the NFL he was a boy amongst men and could not hold up to the pounding and pressure. Boy was getting beat down till he quit. Facts
I’d be hard to do in this time span, but touching on his charter & addiction issues likely derailed his career more than anything. It’s stupid to love a game so much but when the one thing you wake up for each day is gone& so is your “purpose”, shit can get dark real quick. There’s a reason why 1/2 of almost all athletes when forced to retire are broke, divorced & addicted to something within 24months.
That just goes to show you how dysfunctional the Cleveland Browns were in the last decade. Draft a player that they were not planning on drafting based on a text message and emotions. Also I am shocked how the NFL was so harsh to Johnny Manziel. No team would even put him on the practice squad after Cleveland cut him. I have so many mediocre Quarterbacks get 2nd and 3rd chances in the NFL
He was regarded as damaged goods by Draft Day, hence his fall to the 22nd pick, and that pick resulted from management being overuled by amateur ownership.
He once played against my Bengals and was able to sustain a drive and threw a TD, perhaps his first ever. And I saw a great potential for Johnny then, but it never materialized for Johnny, it never came through for him. I think he let his emotions get the best of him. And that’s the reason why he’s a bust! Hey Johnny, there’s always the USFL.
he was a "star" at high school...and also in college....he got used to being a "star" growing up that when he got to the NFL, he was still acting and living like he was a "star" in the Cleveland team, even when he sucked he went to party with justin beiber and other "celebrities"
Everybody knew Mansmell was a bust. He is the second coming of Ryan Leaf. He shouldn't have been in the NFL. I said that before the draft. No one listened. And with the Browns pulling a Browns thing, they pick him, and keep him waaaaaaaay too long. I'm a Browns fan, and I don't even know what the head office thinks during the draft. And not to mention the QB they drafted that was eligible for Social Security, Weeden, I must be a die hard fan to keep rooting for them, or insane.
Manziel had to leave college BC he knew his secret would become public. He had no discipline & a few vices which would bring him down. As we all saw, Daddy Could Not pay for his screw ups forever
I got to see Johnny play in the CFL watchment training can I watch I watched them in training camp and I watched Hamilton trade him the Montreal and that same week humiliate him on the field he thought the CFL was a joke he ended up being the punchline
Ha ha, ya like a lot of QBs who come from the US, he had trouble with that extra DB in the CFL. I remember his first game with the Als he threw and INT, and roared down the field to make the tackle himself. I think he got injured on that play. Later another game, Montreal had the ball with a minute or so left down by a single score but had a lot of field to cover. The coach took him out and put in Antonio Pipkin because the thinking was JM didn't have the arm strength.
The dude should have stayed at least one if not two more years in college. It wasn’t just his maturity that was a problem. He simply wasn’t good enough to play at the next level quite yet…factor in the poor mentality and you get a bust. But if you look at the top 3 QBS that year…Bortles was not good and Bridgewater was a good 2nd stringer and bottom 1st stringer.
Anybody who knows ball knew Johnny was gonna be a bust, I never really saw what people saw in him, he was fun to watch in college but his limited skill level was never gonna transfer over to the NFL especially since he didn't have Mike Evans there to save his ass
Wow…….great job, I love your energy!!! A sad story but it always is when you have these world class athletes who piss their careers away. Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson is a well known story about the most amazing LB that I had ever seen, to that point. He was LT before there was an LT. But his coke problem was so bad, he was sniffing it on the sidelines during the Super Bowl. What a waste.
No 1 he didn’t text mike Petrine stating he would wreck the league it was the qb coach. Number 2 Brian hoyer actually was 7-4 as a starter before losing 2 games to make them 7-6 the best mark for the browns in seven years when Manziel took over. Stopped watching at the 7 min mark with this falsehoods.
I was really expecting the world for Johnny Manziel I had seen one of his first games and thought he could be a Generational Player. One thing that I dislike about this in college sports especially on scholarships and such. I believe they have a contract one of sports for one of education. They should have to graduate in order to play in the pro's. That way they not only have something to fall back on if they do not make the NFL because let's be real very few make it. Lot's will try but from a total list of players active on a NFL roster with all the teams is as of 2020 was 1696. Point being that man had the world by the short and curlies. All that potential I still wish him all the best in life. He can still do amazing great things. He has the talent and ability. Now to see if he has heart and the will.
Which player should I do next?
Saquon Barkley
JaMarcus Russel Raiders Qb also 2nd
Eddie Lacy
Hello! Can you do randy moss please? The fact he went to Marshall to being one of the greatest receivers of all time is insane!
Peyton hillis

Ok, check out the 2018 game between OSU & Perdue. Have a box of tissue near by. Tyler Trent, great kid 🙏 💕 🙏. If you don't cry I'll be shocked.
I loved vintage college manziel, such a good time to be a college football fan

Hello great video as usually
Manziel was a 3 star and at around 5’11 he was hardly “Wanted by everyone!”
If he had kept his head on straight, he would have been competing against the likes of Mahomes, Burrow etc stats wise. It's a shame the path he went down. 15 seconds into this and I paused and posted my comment! How does someone become a bust? Simple get drafted by Cleveland!
Or get drafted by any team with bad line protection, only the strongest, fastest, biggest defenders get drafted into the NFL, most of the defenders you go against in college aren't going to make it to the NFL.
yeah like nick chubb, myles garrett, denzel ward and martin emerson you mean?
The nfl is a true grind..it's separates those great in college..vs..those in the pros..
And Johnny football was at best a college football qb
Some of us didn’t think much of him going to the NFL in the first place. Most players fail to make the transition.

I enjoyed the presentation and especially the narration. A great storyteller.
