I added some details to the description. 1. Bloodlines was not on the Virtual Console. Seems I have seen too many modded Wii's in recent years that it was burned in my head that it was. My mistake. 2. The Tetris that is coming is not the super rare Japanese version you have heard of, but a new port based on Sega's arcade edition. 3. Some believed that the new Darius port was based on a fan created game, but it does appear to be a new project done by M2 themselves.
So I saw the Japan announcement of the final batch of the games and it was a big production, a two hour show with the producers of MD Mini, Sega corporate guys in the audience, and even Yuzo Koshiro as a guest for the whole 2 hours. You're right, Tetris is a new port based on the arcade version. What's notable is that this version is 4mb while most puzzle games in the day was 1 or 2mb max. Darius (pronounced Dah-rai-ah-su) is a new port that involved Taito who was a producer and they reached out to M2 to do the port b/c M2 had previously already done the Darius Cosmic Collection. The game is 32mb which is humongous for a MD game. In terms of Darius, it was released back in the days or PC Engine (Darius Plus) and PCE-CD (Super Darius) but this one is a new port nonetheless.
Sega Lord X Hello, i love this channel and your dedication towards retro gaming. Just wanted to ask you or anyone who is looking at this post; that since past couple of months i am trying to find out one old NES/SEGA type soccer game which is more like anime style gaming where we play as a protagonist and regarding the gameplay there is only one player displayed on screen while dribbling the ball and the players can shoot the ball with super powers like in Shaolin Soccer.... If the power is op then the keeper fly away like an airplane and the goalpost net is destroyed and so on..... I used to play this game when i was a kid and now i am 33. I am quite sure that lot of other players played this game as well and it would be a great appreciation if anyone tells me the name of this game. I am really desperate right now..😫😫😔😔.. ( Note::: It is not GOAL franchise, which has also super power shootings like in cartoons..) Thank you in advance.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@arbereshe That was an issue I had with some japanese IP back then. Treasure was very averse to making sequels to their games. On the flip side, they had a stellar library of original titles and you could buy their games on brand alone knowing you were in for a unique, challenging, satisfying experience. I remember Yuji Naka refusing to do a sequel to Nights into Dreams despite its popularity, going as far as to pointing players to games where Nights makes a cameo to get their 'fix'. It was 11 years before the sequel Nights Journey of Dreams showed up on the Wii and it was headed up by one of the designers on the original Takashi Iizuka. Looking back/giving the benefit of doubt, it was likely something out of Naka's control...90's me didn't like it though.
Ristar belongs there but I’d rather trade Virtua Fighter 2 for it. Sonic Spinball is hella underrated tbh. It’s a great pinball game with great bosses and music
That’s a lot for the info btw previous commenter I’m fascinated with Treasure. Idk how they made so many good games. Headdy, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Ikaruga, Stretch Panic, Astro Boy Omega Factor, Gunstar freaking Super Heroes there’s so many good games AAAahhh
Got my Sega Genesis on a rainy day, when I arrived from school, I found the gigantic box on my bed with altered beast staring back at me. Immediately I unboxed it and played all day and night. I was only 10 years old, and let me tell you those memories I will never forget.
Landstalker is amazing, all you have to do is adjust to pressing diagonals to move instead of up down left right. Once that small hurdle is complete, you are basically playing the best non-zelda zelda game in history (until Alundra). Landstalker is easily top 10 on the system, in my personal top 5. Man and then he gushes all over Beyond the Oasis. Landstalker is 2x better easily. Besides that great video, he appraises everything else spot on.
Yeah like in Mega Collection to unlock Sonic 3 you MUST "play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Spinball 20 times each." And game even didn't tell you how to unlock
I'm really looking forward to the Mini, I think there are only a handful of duds on the list, their choices were pretty solid overall. Could have been a lot worse haha! Great video, man
Why Virtua Fighter 2 ? It definitely does not represent the best of the Sega Genesis and they keep including it with every compilation, seems lazy and they could have easily replaced with better games like Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic 3, Tmnt: Hyperstone Heist etc.
@@AlexOjideagu2 it's sonic 3 and it has license issues with the music? it's insane. it was great oportunity to release the whole sonic3 complete. And some 32x games like the virtuas and space harrier
Maria Magdalena Cassino The music was made by Michael Jackson since he died years ago and it's unclear if Sega tried to ask the Jackson family for the rights rereleases of Sonic 3.
This system is going to be amazing. Great video. I've already bought the Retro-Bit 6-Button USB controller in preparation from Amazon. It looks and feels great. 🦄🦄🦄
I’m a Nintendo fan and I absolutely agree. More games than anyone else, the best group of games AND M2 is doing the emulation??? That’s gonna be tough to beat.
You both agree that Alex Kid and Sonic Spinball could have been changed for other games? I do. You can’t please everybody I know, but I hate Alex Kid lol, maybe because it has zero nostalgia for me. I like Sonic Spinball a bit better, if for only that SEGA tried to experiment with their number 1 franchise and try something different, even if I feel it failed miserably.
schmeltingaccident - Yes on both games. I can’t stand Alex Kid. Sonic Spinball is okay-ish, but it’s a 2d game that runs at 30 FPS which is unacceptable. I say scrap both games and bring in Revenge of Shinobi. It’s a top 5 game on the system. I understand the problem with bringing in all those unlicensed characters, but they should have done revision 1.04 where Spider-Man was pink and Godzilla had no skin. Just palette-swap some of the characters! Revenge of Shinobi should have been on the list. Such an amazing game.
That was one of the first things I noticed on Spinball. It’s sonic but everything is kinda slow? Also I was a Shadowdancer fan myself, probably not the best Shinobi game but because of nostalgia, it is for me!
This has me sold with Castle of Illusion, Strider, and Ghouls & Ghosts. I would have liked to see one of the Mortal Kombat games in place of Virtua Fighter, and as much as I loved Thunder Force III, I would have loved Gaiares even more. Aladdin, Splatterhouse, and Outrun would have been great. And I have my own nostalgia pick that probably nobody else would want, Ren & Stimpy.
There are a LOT of iconic shooters missing, and as a huge fan of the genre I cant help but notice. Thunder Force 3 deserves its place, but where is Thunder Force 4?! It’s on Switch. And yes, Gaiares definetely deserves a spot. And Steel Empire, and Biohazard Battle, and Trouble Shooter 1 and Trouble Shooter Vintage, and MUSHA, and Hellfire, and Raider Trad, and Truxton... (I’m not even halfway through my list)
@@lucariosimon9058 I could have filled the 42 spots with 42 versions of the same Taito vertical-scrolling shooters with different sprites haha. If only they had included just one of them. Just one.....
Heh. Steel Empire or Trouble Shooter Vintage are my personal favorites. Although I actually haven't played a lot of Taito Shooters except for Truxton and Hellfire due to Classic Game Room's recommendation and they were great! I'm Googling them now and a lot of these look really cool, I know Darius has some pretty good entries, thanks for the recommendation!
Curiously in Brazil people have a great nostalgia with Alex Kid. It's probably the only place in the world were people complain that there weren't any new games of the franchise...
Andon Christian El I’m really not sure if I want this. Sonic one is garbage I’m sick to death of sonic 2. Contra and castlevania are god tier. Ecco apparently is a bitch to control. Dynamite heaady is good but not my kind of game. They should replaces altered beast with alien soldier. I was hoping the adventures of batman and robin because they got castle of illusion.
Christian El what are you going to add? For me it’s batman, alien soldier, steel empire, ristar, sonic 3 and knuckles and bare knuckle 3. Oh and biohazard battle
Overall great line up, would replace some games with Thunder Force IV, Alien Soldier and Rocket Knight, but I'm overall satisfied. I was honestly sold at Super Fantasy Zone.
Great video. I'm in awe of your output and work ethic. Sure, some guys put out more but all they do is press record and read news and talk about it. I really respect you're making proper videos with capping and editing and titles and everything. You deserve all the subs you get.
2:02 Excuse me? Last time I checked, NONE of Konami's Genesis games were on the Virtual Console. Also, despite me not being a big Sonic fan, I actually like Sonic Spinball and, much like the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog syndicated weekday cartoon, I think it's underrated. Fight me.
Today is my first time seeing this video. I bought this when it came out and it has many games I had never heard of. Thank you for your good reviews as I know now what these games are about and why I should play them.
Will the Mini have the good sound card? I got one of those pre-loaded 3rd party Genesis consoles a couple years ago but the sound card on it is different and it noticeably messes with the sound making it sound different compared to the old consoles or emulators. Would totally get this if the sound translation is authentic as those old Genesis tunes were classic. Also, games I would have loved to see on this: 1) Ristar 2) Sunset Riders 3) Jurassic Park 4) Chakan: The Forever Man But overall, generally great roster that hits lots of the highlights.
Belmont nice list! The ten games I would put here are 1: TMNT Hyperstone Hiest 2: Bonanza Bros 3: Rocket Knight Adventures 4: Ristar 5: Sonic 3 & Knuckles 6: Desert Strike 7: The Sword Of Vermilion 8: Virtua Racing 9: M.U.S.H.A 10: Alien Soldier
@@TheInsider15 honestly I've never played the first one, although I'd like too when the mini comes out. But I'm still disappointed the 2nd one isn't in there, because I enjoyed playing that game.
Another great video mate. Maybe it's because I had such low expectations, but I'm really impressed with the list overall - they're not all amazing games, but as an overall snapshot of the console I think it threads a pretty good line between all time classics, a few hidden gems, a few games people won't have had a chance to play, solid 3rd party gets, and the odd expensive collectors showpiece. It's not flawless, but it's very good I think. Question now is whether the emulation is actually any good, but with ATGames apparently kicked to the curb, I have higher hopes - it seems like they're genuinely trying to do right by it. Kinda annoying UK only gets the 3 Button pads though, not sure about US
You know what I think it could had been a nice addition? International Superstar Soccer Deluxe. Made by Konami (who licensed a lot of games here), no licenses attached. It's the greatest 16bit soccer game of all time, and it's actually still pretty fun.
I know right? I’d trade Wily Wars or Virtua Fighter 2 for it tbh. They’re both fine but they’re just ports of games I can find elsewhere or NES or Sega Saturn. They didn’t make the Genesis special, they didn’t add to the narrative history of the console. All the others and Rocket Knight are historically signifigant. After all Rocket Knight was a big moment in Konami’s development on the Genesis and led to the development of other great games by them like Contra Hard Corps and Animaniacs
ok just started watching the video ! i liked the music that was in the background before the games ! and surely enough i checked the notes and here it is mentioned ! and you know what ! just for that i'm subscribing and clicking the bell ! because in other vids i would have to waste hours to MAYBE find the song title ! so THANK YOU ! now im getting back to finish the video !
SO many great games. I still have a number of these in their og hard clamshells. TOe Jam & Earl was a funny game that partially tried to capitalize on the then Gangsta Rap genre that was so big in the 90s. THe lil freestyle option from the main menu was always funny and the game was just quirky and odd as hell. The randomization of levels made it challenging to try and get all the ship pieces ot beat the game. ONly did it once back in the day. GREAT VIDEO! BE WELL ^~^
I would have SO liked Aladdin, Robocop vs Terminator, Jurassic Park, Splatterhouse 1/2/3 (especially 3), Rocket Knight Adventures, TMNT The Hyperstone Heist, NBA Jam Tournament Edition and Sonic 3 to have been included 😢
In case you guys didn't know, this isn't the first mini Genesis with preloaded games. There is also the one made by AtGames, which can also play actual cartridges (though the cartridge specifications and conditions may prevent it for some), and it has 80 something games that aren't just for the Genesis. It also has Master System and Game Gear games.
I remember on toe jam and earl finding the hidden sauna with the hula girls on the first level. Liked the ending where you got to walk around funkotron :)
There are some poor games on here lets be honest, but if you want to introduce a loved one to the genesis/megadrive its a great way to do so and way cheaper. Now how long before someone hacks it and improves it further. Thank you for another great video.
Altered Beast and Space Harrier II are a couple of decent titles, in my view. I think they deserve to be included, if for no other reason than their significance for showcasing the power of the console in its fledgling days.
I agree with you that it’s a damn solid lineup. Personally I’d swap out Space Harrier, Alex Kidd and Virtual Fighter for Golden Axe 2, Quackshot and Ristar, but like you said there’s a lot to love there. Besides, I’m sure that within a few hours of the thing going on sale some clever sod will have worked out how to add your own ROM files to it, so no biggie!

Going AWOL is :Rocket Knight Adventures,Sunset Riders,Outrun, Ranger X,Truxton,Splatterhouse 2,Toki,Rolling Thunder 2,Mystic Defender,Boogerman ,Blades of Vengeance, Rambo 3 ,Robocop Vs Terminator,Flink,Soleil,Dragon's Fury,Jewel Master. Hot damn theres alot of good stuff, lve another 35 games l could of easily added.
Mega Turrican!!!
Great vid yet again dawg!!
@DejaVoodooDoll That's the thing you can't please everyone as its personal preference. But Sunset Riders did have the native Indians included.I was just mentioning Toki for variation purposes.Robocop vs Terminator wouldn't get green lit in a blue moon lm guessing. Its a mixed bag the mini but it could of been so much more but what is there is there.
The lack of OutRun is a cardinal sin. If they insisted Space Harrier II be kept, they should have put OutRun in place of Spinball for sure.
Maybe cuz of Ferrari license
Quality work, thanks for making this video! I like your delivery and respect your opinions. Thanks for persevering and making quality entertainment.
Space Harrier is INCREDIBLE on the 3DS!
This is actually turning out to be the best "Mini" console to date! I really hope the emulation is on point though.
Damn, any way we can trade Sonic SpiTball for FREAKIN RISTAR??!!! Lol I can't believe they left out that lil' dudes game. My only gripe.✌
I would trade Alex Kidd for almost anything else. But I already have Ristar on the Genesis classic collection
I wish Sega and Treasure would've made a Ristar/Dynamite Headdy crossover.
That’s a lot for the info btw previous commenter
I’m fascinated with Treasure.
I would've paid $20 extra for an additional 20 games! Ugh! So many other greats missing, but the 42 we are getting are impressive!
What if you unlock sonic 3 after completing sonic 2 🤔
That would make sense
@Laid-Off Huffington Post Journalist if that was the case why is it still available on Steam?
Yeah like in Mega Collection to unlock Sonic 3 you MUST "play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Spinball 20 times each." And game even didn't tell you how to unlock
Laid-Off Huffington Post Journalist the only thing is there was the pc port that changed the music soooo
Laid-Off Huffington Post Journalist it was just for the pc ports I think, I dunno if it was a universal change for all future ports.
Aladdin to me is an iconic Genesis game. Would've been great, but this lineup is really good.
I was one of those cult member fan of internal champions
I liked being Larcen
Back in the day Ecco the Dolphins graphics were mind blowing.
Yes it was hypnotherapy for my eyes
Yep
But now looks like shit but its okay for its look at least is fun
the lack of a Mortal Kombat bothers me a bit
Especially since ps classic flopped and didn’t have trilogy
@@NCMETAL yeah. that's what prevented me from getting it. and not having Mortal Kombat for the mini Genesis prevents me from getting it as well
Fun fact: Landstalker is a prequel to PS1's Alundra. Which is such an awesome Action RPG.
Landstalker man, amazing game.
I also love it’s spiritual sequel: Alundra.
Nice, I didn't know that connection
I'm really looking forward to the Mini, I think there are only a handful of duds on the list, their choices were pretty solid overall. Could have been a lot worse haha! Great video, man
I just bought a vintage Genesis and started collecting for the system and still want this.
Space Harrier 2 is awesome. I have no nostalgia at all for it. I played it the first time this year and had a total blast with it. Highly underrated.
Sonic 3 has licensing issues due to the music
@@AlexOjideagu2 it's sonic 3 and it has license issues with the music? it's insane. it was great oportunity to release the whole sonic3 complete. And some 32x games like the virtuas and space harrier
Maria Magdalena Cassino The music was made by Michael Jackson since he died years ago and it's unclear if Sega tried to ask the Jackson family for the rights rereleases of Sonic 3.
Because Sega Japan has a hard on for Virtua Fighter. They 86ed an Eternal Champions sequel because of Virtua Fighter
So true, the games you mentioned are some of the best on the system
This system is going to be amazing. Great video. I've already bought the Retro-Bit 6-Button USB controller in preparation from Amazon. It looks and feels great. 🦄🦄🦄
Obviously haven’t played it yet, but on the line up alone I say this is the best classic mini console by a good margin.
I'm pro Nintendo and didn't have a Genesis...but yes, Sega nailed it with the number of games and game selection. Better than the NES or SNES lineups.
I’m glad that you didn’t judge on Alex the Kidd , I would love to play it whenever I have a chance to do so
This has me sold with Castle of Illusion, Strider, and Ghouls & Ghosts.
Oops, I meant Toaplan, not Taito.
Would have loved Jungle Strike/Desert Strike/Urban Strike but im happy with this library, especially World of illusion
Same, brother. :(
They should've put in the Toaplan games for the western release as well.
Hell yeah!
A missed oportunity to have once again "All your base, are belong to us"... Couldn't resist to say that. ;)
Shame neither the SNES or the Genesis mini’s included any of the Mortal Kombat games, it would have been great to see 1 or 2
True that. MK2 on snes was great. MK1 in Genesis was the cleaner genesis port though
But then they would’ve had to rate the system M just because of that one game
@@amirdejesus7077 Well, Eternal Champions is here so that's no excuse.
Don’t worry, a couple days after this thing comes out you’ll be playing Thunder Force 4 and the other 2 Streets of Rage games on it. 😉
No question about it.
The hacking and modding scene really does bump up sales of these systems
@Karl Burnett I hope you're wrong :P
@Karl Burnett Agree 100%
@@Klynch111 that's the only reason why I bought a Playstation classic. And I waited till the price was $30 Canadian before I bought it.
Curiously in Brazil people have a great nostalgia with Alex Kid.
It's probably the only place in the world were people complain that there weren't any new games of the franchise...
I think I would have only added Jurassic Park and Skitchin. Otherwise, solid collection. Thanks for the awesome review.
Once I seen Contra on the list I was sold.
I was hoping the adventures of batman and robin because they got castle of illusion.
robert bektas totally agree
Christian El lol my opinion changed I’m just gonna mod all the games I want.
robert bektas I think I a lot of people going to do the same cause I am lol
Christian El what are you going to add? For me it’s batman, alien soldier, steel empire, ristar, sonic 3 and knuckles and bare knuckle 3. Oh and biohazard battle
Gah no Rocket Knight or Ristar? Hope I can mod it in. Still a solid list though.
Sonic spin ball is a great game
Great video ! 44 or 45 games because of megaman it is a unique collection and Sega knocked it out of the park. 3 rare games , 2019 Sega owns
Sony 2019 take notes
Should have had Shining Force 2 instead of Columns...otherwise great list.
Columns is a classic - it is Sega's Tetris. kick Dr. Robotik out!
Mean Bean Machine, played on Sega Channel, was my sole companion on many a lonely night when I was younger. =/
Well i played it on Sega Genesis, GameCube as part of Sonic Mega Collection, and PS2 as part of Sonic Mega Collection Plus.
Probably one of the best line ups for a Sega mini. Period.
Also, games I would have loved to see on this:
1) Ristar
2) Sunset Riders
3) Jurassic Park
4) Chakan: The Forever Man
But overall, generally great roster that hits lots of the highlights.
I had Jurassic Park, that was a fun game.
Belmont nice list! The ten games I would put here are
1: TMNT Hyperstone Hiest
2: Bonanza Bros
3: Rocket Knight Adventures
4: Ristar
5: Sonic 3 & Knuckles
6: Desert Strike
7: The Sword Of Vermilion
8: Virtua Racing
9: M.U.S.H.A
10: Alien Soldier
Really appreciated the work that went into this one. I didn't know some of these games and now I know what they are.
Tj and Earl 1 and 2 are amazing, but two player is a MUST.
Totally bummed the 2nd one didn't make it on here, that was going to be the first game I was going to play.
@@aebking Take that as a good thing, Toe Jam and Earl 2 ain't as good as Toe Jam and Earl 1
@@TheInsider15 honestly I've never played the first one, although I'd like too when the mini comes out. But I'm still disappointed the 2nd one isn't in there, because I enjoyed playing that game.
@@aebking Ah well, it's one of the best and unique games ever made
I recently played through Vectorman and Comix Zone. Such awesome games!
Damn, Sega Lord, you really make me glad to have been a Genesis owner back in the day. I am tempted to buy the Genesis Collection for Switch now.
Strider! Awesome! Great video
Kinda annoying UK only gets the 3 Button pads though, not sure about US
Yeah, it’s 3 button here as well. Only Japan gets the 6 button version.
@@andrewt6338 The rest of Asia as well, actually.
You know what I think it could had been a nice addition? International Superstar Soccer Deluxe. Made by Konami (who licensed a lot of games here), no licenses attached. It's the greatest 16bit soccer game of all time, and it's actually still pretty fun.
Was expecting Rocket Knight Adventures, but I can dream..oh I can dream
I know right? I’d trade Wily Wars or Virtua Fighter 2 for it tbh. They’re both fine but they’re just ports of games I can find elsewhere or NES or Sega Saturn. They didn’t make the Genesis special, they didn’t add to the narrative history of the console. All the others and Rocket Knight are historically signifigant. After all Rocket Knight was a big moment in Konami’s development on the Genesis and led to the development of other great games by them like Contra Hard Corps and Animaniacs
@@lucariosimon9058 fur sure
ok just started watching the video ! i liked the music that was in the background before the games ! and surely enough i checked the notes and here it is mentioned ! and you know what ! just for that i'm subscribing and clicking the bell ! because in other vids i would have to waste hours to MAYBE find the song title ! so THANK YOU ! now im getting back to finish the video !
Did you say Altered Beast shouldn't be on here? BLASTPHEMY!
its not even a shadow of the Superior Arcade Version.
@Requiem4aDr3Am The arcade version, yes. The severely crippled Genesis version? Hell, no.
@@yusefpittman529 yeah i prefer the arcade version. in fact i own a working cabinet of the arcade version
I couldnt agree more. All of them is absolutely fantastic!
At one point I thought Aladdin was a possibility.
Global Gladiators, X-Men, Jurassic Park, Rocket Knight Adventures. All missed games from the Sega Genesis..
Like you would get license games🤣🤣🤣 you are lucky to get the Disney ones
great long ep again slx... this was truly a treat.
Hope one day they make a pc engine classic
Requiem4aDr3Am but some are pretty good so its better to have good games
Wow, this lineup is very impressive, I'm pleasantly surprised by a lot of these, good work Sega!
Benjamin Ramsey it’s missing Sonic 3 and Knuckles 😔
AAAARRRRGGGHHH
NO GAIN GROUND DAMMIT!
How will people now meet this spectacular game?!
Nov 5062 Gain Ground is on the Sega Ages line on Nintendo Switch
One of my all time favourite games :3
I still have my oroginal copy on Mega.
Right as soon as they announced Alisia Dragoon it was an automatic pre-order. The game is a hidden gem.
I was expecting a poor assortment but this has really impressed, want one.
Thank you for another great video.
which ones?
Garry North this is the best lineup of all of the mini systems.
@@nikmidclayton5933 for sure
Altered Beast and Space Harrier II are a couple of decent titles, in my view. I think they deserve to be included, if for no other reason than their significance for showcasing the power of the console in its fledgling days.
"Contra Hard Corps was a hard game"
Damn understatement of the millennium
I agree with you that it’s a damn solid lineup. Personally I’d swap out Space Harrier, Alex Kidd and Virtual Fighter for Golden Axe 2, Quackshot and Ristar, but like you said there’s a lot to love there. Besides, I’m sure that within a few hours of the thing going on sale some clever sod will have worked out how to add your own ROM files to it, so no biggie!
The JP MD Mini will be awesome but tbh im kinda pissed, because the lack of Alien Soldier.
Only ASIA models will get it... :(
Give it some time, I guarantee that you'll be able to mod the damn thing with more roms. Like they did with both the NES/SNES Classic Mini's.
Love watching this at 144p. Really brings out the nostalgia, and my battery.
