I think a lot of people miss Lestat telling Louis that the riot isn't his fault - that they were already looking for an opportunity to burn the community down. In every episode, Lestat is telling Louis that everything is going to be ok, that things aren't his fault, that he shouldn't have to hide his nature, that going into business with those men was a bad idea, that the riot isn't his fault. He never takes over Louis' business meetings, he's just there for support. His trouble is that he thinks is all of this is a simple thing. He doesn't see the paradigm and high context that Louis lives in every day. And there isn't any way he ever could.

This is true of all interracial relationships, really. They offer their love and support but they won’t ever truly understand the experience. They try their best

This episode is viewed differently from black people and non-black people. The moment Louis hung that man's half-torso on that fence, with that sign, every black person knew what was going to happen next. You KNOW they were gonna go after ALL the black folk.

@MavenCree It’s amazing the show holding to the realism of the fact that there’s only so much he can do with the mythical powers for personal revenge before the real world power structure does what it did/does to the people

Lestat is GOALS!! I've buried myself underground. I don't believe in life after love (sorry, Cher!) , yet the vociferocity, the passion, the dedication with which Lestat continues to pursue Louis. He wasn't kidding when he said, " St. Louis wasn't a city, but a very amiable person, who he will get to know. I love their love so much. For myself, I have no such delusions of grandeur, but I haven't Lestat's abs or Louis's wrinkled nose. Gol-ly! But for their sake, I am a fervent believer in true true love!

The most important take-away from this episode is that Louis is not a reliable narrator. The Lestat in this show is NOT the Lestat from the first movie or the first book. Those are told from Louis's point of view and... again... unreliable narrator.

@@beautifulloly It is. But it's more sympathetic than just doing it for the lol's. I even find Claudia rather repugnant in her glee for violence, honestly. They need to drink blood to survive, I get it, it's not pretty. But it isn't just a matter of getting a need met, they actively LIKE hurting people. Louis hurts people sometimes, but it isn't for fun.

Claudia is a child Louis saves and initially feeds on. Lestat catches Louis with Claudia, sees how unhappy Louis is, and saves Claudia to keep Louis from leaving him. Claudia becomes a part of their Vampire family, but Claudia is also another one of Lestat's mistakes and rule-breaking.

💭I've never been into Vampire movies or shows, and I don't care for gory flicks, But I really liked this series, It almost felt addictive!...🎥🎭 I know Lestat did a lot of foul things to get with Louis, but I still liked them 2Gather!... (except for Ep. 5) 🚩He stalked Louis before they met, and went to all Louis's hang-out spots so he could try to get with him... and he used his human and vampire magic on him from the jump! (mind-control, telepathy, love bombing, manipulation, and seduction.) 🎬Lestat's dialogue was Shakespearen and hypnotic!

    • @playfulpanthress

@@Nicholas_is_my_name The point of her talking "like a five year old" could be in part a nod to the book as she was supposed to be 4-5 years old or showing the poverty that Claudia was raised in without access to education. I'm not sure if she would have known French had she gotten to grow up normal, but it was made clear she didn't know it when she moved in with L2. Which is odd since French would have been extremely prevalent in the area. It also tells me how much poorer Claudia's family must have been.
And since it would be impossible to put a five year old into the role, like the movie, they aged her up yet made sure to show a mental increase from immature child to adult trapped in a child's body.
Perhaps it isn't to your liking, but it is genius storytelling nonetheless.
