Louis and Lestat simply started on a horrible note. Louis wasn't willing to accept that his human life is gone and Lestat didn't explain a damn thing about what vampirism would entail before turning him. They love one another deeply but have HORRIBLE communication skills and avoid talking about their traumas

Yo, so in episode one Louis told Daniel (the interviwer) that at that time before becoming a vamp, he didnt consider himself homosexual. But he did have encounters with men.... but usually with an overindulgence in alcohol. He went to see Lilly so as one to keep up appearances, and two because (this is just my inference) she became his friend. And also I think it was more him falling in love with Lestat, not so much that he was his first gay experience.

At 18:15, you asked "Are they doing that to all the Black people?" The answer is yes.
Storyville was the red-light district of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1897 to 1917. During the same year it was shut down (1917), a race riot broke out in E. St. Louis, whereby 100 African Americans were murdered by a white lynch mob. All kinds of excuses were given for why innocent men and women were murdered but the fact is, if you were Black and breathing...you were a target. Here are the names of successful Black towns and communities that were burned to the ground by white lynch mobs:
    1. Rosewood, FL-1923
    2. Tulsa, OK -1921
    3. LaVilla (Jacksonville, FL) -1887
    4. ATL Race Riots - 1906
    5. Chicago Race Riot - 1919
    6. D.C. Race Riots - 1919
    7. Knoxville, TN 1919
    8. NYC - 1863
    9. E. St. Louis - 1917

This is a very important part of history in America that most people don't know about and don't want to know about. Most people just think that slavery was abolished in 1865, and nothing happened until the civil rights era in the 1960's. Atrocities like these happened throughout the U.S between those time periods. The one you mentioned in Rosewood Fl. was depicted in the movie Rosewood. According to the movie, it was instigated by a white woman claiming that a black man raped her.

Lestat DID see it coming. The first thing he said as soon as Louis said that he wanted to buy the Fair Play Saloon was that it would end badly. He warned him over the entire 7 years that he needed to let his business interactions go, that he shouldn't be killing "important" men in town because it would become problematic. Louis likes to make choices out of anger and frustration and they always hurt someone - and he won't look at himself. He directs his blame at Lestat because he wants so badly to keep Lestat painted as the bad guy even though Lestat just wants him to stop torturing himself and hurting his community.

Vampire powers in the books- pyrokinesis known in the books as the fire gift. Anne rice vampires have that, telekinesis (moving things by mind) mind reading the ability to project images and thoughts into someone's mind. Some can cause humans to have aneurysms in their brand and light other vampires on fire with pyrokinesis. Older ones can levitate or fly. Technically Lestat isn't old or strong enough but it isn't that big of a stretch to think maybe he got a little more of akashas blood before meeting Louis in this au.
Then of course strong vampires can reach out and hear other vampires thoughts from great distances. The distance varies by the strength or age if the vampire. They also have compulsion but it's tied to the ability to put images or thoughts in people's heads.

Lestat didn't know much about vampires or if any others existed at that time but eventually he did run into some hostile vampires. He learned from their leader Armand that Armand was created by Marius who was the keeper of the first 2 vampires akasha and enkil who if they are hurt or injured it affects all vampires. . Eventually he journeys to find Marius looking for guidance and answers about what vampires are, where they came from. He finds him and ends up drinking some of Akashas blood which makes him a bit more powerful than a vampire his age should be. Later in the series he drinks alot more of Akashas blood and gets scary powerful, but at the point if Interview with the Vampire he's just a bit stronger than he should be.
Strength and powers come with age or also from drinking the blood of stronger vampires. Lestat before he met Louis had drank from Armand who was a few hundred years older, Marius, who is from Christ's time, and Akasha who predates human history. He's much stronger than he should be but he doesn't have flight untill later.

I think Louis felt betrayed that Lestat saw it coming, knew he would over react and didn't warn him or try to talk him out of it just to prove that he shouldn't be doing human business anymore (as he initially suggested in episode two in the 'i don't like to go to bed angry' scene, and to get him to finally kill. It's kinda like when he told him not to go home right after his first meal and when Louis insisted on leaving, he got caught in the sun and almost burned to death. It's like slowly teaching him to obey. He doesn't give explanation beforehand. Once the 'you know what' hits the fan, then he's like 'i told ya so' without actually saying 'i told ya so'. He is training him to obey without question. He should earn his trust by communicating the pros and cons of his decisions rather than just letting him learn the hard way. So when Louis realizes this manipulation, he told him that is why they will not work out and he will probably always be alone if he handles his relationships this way. It was harsh but true. The killing of the tenor because he couldn't sing vs. betrayal of a fake friend and college is different. Killing of many humans but only one that was racist is different. I think Louis can still hold the moral high ground in comparison but of course any killing is wrong in real like but as far as a vampire show is concerned, Louis is still a better person than Lestat.

To be honest, I don't understand how Lestat was always looked at as the toxic one. Look at the situation: Lestat was so in love with Louis that he did everything he could to make him happy; he loved everything about him, the good and the bad. He loved him unconditionally. He went to Louis' family events even though he didn't want to (and didn't eat them), he planned date nights, provided him an amazing home to live in, bought him everything he asked for, gave him a life of luxury, told him he'd never have to worry about money and, most importantly, gave him immortal life and power. Because of Lestat, Louis will never have to worry about the things that most people suffer in life. Louis will never have to suffer sickness or death...he will never have to worry about money or working...he can do anything he wants and be anything he wants. Yet, he is absolutely unappreciative of the amazing life, power, and love that he's been given. Louis is willing to take and take all the privileges that Lestat's lifestyle provides him but what has he done for Lestat other than allow Lestat to love him...nothing. After all, Lestat never pretended to be anyone but himself. He was open and honest and what he wanted and who he was. It was Louis' decided to be with Lestat and accept the offer of immortal life, even after he saw Lestat slaughter a priest. What I wouldn't give for someone that loves and cares about me so much that they are willing to give me everything I want or need, without question....willing to make sure I never get sick, grow old, or die...willing to spend eternity by my side....and all they ask for from me in return is my unconditional love. Lestat got the short end of the stick, 100%.

    • @anikarice7609

Yes! Lestat really does love Louis tremendously. That outburst when Louis just hooked up with Jonah.. Lestat admitting he got jealous and cried out he heard their hearts dancing and watched Louis devour the animals after. He said that isn't Life. That was such a strong statement. I feel like it really hurt him to see Louis just scrounging for animals. It's like watching your loved one hungry and picking food from the streets. He just wants him to finally embrace his nature and be free.

    • @davon1650
      @davon1650 Год назад +10

Yes, Lestat wants Louis to accept his vampire nature, but not really. Unlike most vampires, Louis *suffers* - it’s one of his most significant traits - and it’s what draws Lestat to him. Lestat wouldn’t have him any other way. He even said so - “you’re a challenge every sunset and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
I also don’t even think Lestat wanted variety or an open relationship. He wanted Louis to get jealous and want him back. That makeout scene with Antoinette - Lestat was basically inviting Louis into a threesome, like he did with Miss Lily - a threesome where the girl would be put to sleep or eaten, lol. So then, of course, Lestat felt betrayed when Louis (who was suffering from low libido, remember) managed to get it up *with someone else*
Lestat has a lot of problems but he loves Louis to death. ;)

@@alinder2327 Louis claimed to hate the lifestyle but had no issues reaping the benefits of it. He also had no issues with killing so long as it was someone he wanted to kill. He said he loved Claudia but condemned her to the same life he claimed to hate so much, out of selfishness. Louis did the same thing to Claudia that Lestat did to Louis, except, Louis didn't give her a choice. He "hates" Lestat but also won't say the word when Lestat asks him to simply say the words and he'll leave him alone forever. Louis was a toxic person even before Lestat turned him. My point is that yes, Lestat was ruthless and narcissistic, however, at least he was upfront and honest about it from the beginning; he didn't pretend to be something he wasn't. Louis was worse, in different ways, mainly because he tried to put on a front and be someone he wasn't while taking and benefiting but never giving himself to anyone, at all. He was toxic, narcissistic, and codependent...before Lestat turned him and after he turned him.

@@lchicks86 They're BOTH toxic. Putting it all on one or the other does not acknowledge their flaws and faults on an equal level of accountability, and the ways they BOTH mistreated each other. Lestat picked Louis after seeing him pull a knife on his own brother in public (Louis' fake & selfish & self-destructive). Louis picked Lestat after seeing him slaughter a whole church (Lestat's violent & oppressive & blasphemous). They're BOTH effed up. Money and charm don't mean squat when they don't really KNOW each other--they see what they want to see in each other, and are stubbornly/naively blind to the fact that vampirism & immortality doesn't SOLVE any of their problems; just embeds what's already there.

Btw, regarding Lestat's age... there are multiple answers to that... in the books he is not that much older than Louis; he'd only been a vampire for about a decade before he met Louis and his father was still alive because Lestat moved his ailing dad into Louis' house. On the show, however, he tells Louis that he has walked the Earth for two centuries so they definitely changed that. At this point, from what I have seen from these episodes, I don't think it's going to matter much if you've read the books or not because they have changed so much that it's two different separate things. The show is based on the books but it's definitely not true to the original story in every detail.

His name is LESTAT ;) I don't think they knew it was Louis who killed the white guy, they just knew it was racially related so they went after all of the blacks. The whole "That is why you are always gonna be alone" comment was so unnessary, especially considering, as you pointed out, Lestat had told him this was his worst fear, and you can just see on his face that Lestat was really hurt by that. I think Louis just didn't like that Lestat called him out on his bullshit so he lashed out but it still doesn't make it okay. Also... the double standards, my God... Louis murders that man brutally and cruelly, guts him like a pig and hangs him on display for the whole town to see like some creepy Hannibal Lector and then he has the nerve to judge Lestat for the opera singer. The guy Louis killed was a racist and a personal enemy. Notice he wanted Louis to work for him for 15% of the profit in the first episode. After Louis denied that, he went on to manipulate the situation for black owned buisinesses, so that (according to his plan) he could offer to buy out the Azalea from Louis, for 15 cents on the dollar! LIke he planned this all along.
The opera guy never did anything to Lestat that warrants him being tortured for a whole night. So the two situations are actually not the same. Add to that that Louis has a lifetime of resentment towards racists like the guy he killed.
Obviously Louis has deep seated anger issues and a lot of arrogance, but his and Lestat's situations are not the same and their motivations for killing are not the same.
Also Lestat's love is very conditional lol. That's fine, that's how relationships work usually, both partners have certain expectations from the other.

Just because Lestat might not see a difference doesn't mean there isn't one.
There is a fundamental difference in morals between them right now (it might change in the future and probably will; I expect Louis will probably kill more ppl in the future and have lower moral standards). In the long term having at least some moral standards leads to less suffering and death. If Louis adopts Lestat's morals that just means he'll start killing and torturing whoever, so all in all the wrongdoing only multiplies. If it''s not ok to do one bad deed then it's certainly not ok to do one bad deed and then go "you know what, I tortured one person, might as well start torturing ppl for imagined wrongs".
Lestat is far removed from humanity which makes sense for him having lived for 200 years. Louis is what? 40? Obviously they'll have differences in the way they perceive humanity. Yeah Louis can have his supernatural vampire wish fulfillment vengeance with the white guy, but If that type of thing were to actually happen in the real world context we live in, other things that happened would have happened as a consequence too, realistically. The guys that did business with that dude would have suspected Louis and they could and likely Would have brought a white mob to torch black businesses and towns. Wouldn't have mattered if they knew for sure who did what. That's how you dovetail fiction with reality in adaptations. The show handled it really well.

Lestat is what would be bisexual or pansexual and Louis is gay, he simply slept with women because he was expected to

No, Louis is def just gay. He said he never slept with that sex worker (forgot her name, the one Lestat killed). They would just sit and talk, so it was an emotional connection. That is the only women we see Louis show any sort of intimate interest in. Lestat is bi tho
