I didn’t know you, but this is one of the best FM videos for Peak I’ve ever seen on RUclips. I’ve learnt a lot in only 20 minutes. Thank you for your job. You’re amazing!
Thanks for watching, and for your comment. I had a feeling that the FM features of the Peak (and many subtractive synths that offer FM) get misunderstood (and mischaracterized) quite often: this was my attempt at showing what it can really do, and how it compares to a regular FM synth. I'm glad you found it helpful!
Masterful tutorial! Easily the best Peak guidance on YT since the early Novation videos by the big guy with the cool watch. For reasons that shall remain private, I haven't walked into my little studio in 18 months. I watched your "Peak drone" video and this one, and now I can't wait to get back in there and turn on the Peak again, thanks to you. 💥🍺
Thanks for commenting, and for watching. I'm glad to be a part of you getting back to your music: this makes me happy. Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you have fun!
Thanks for the comment! I've been trying to focus on demonstrating sound design as a process: listen, think, change, repeat. I hope that this comes across, while including some useful info.
Thanks for watching, and for your comment. I feel like the Peak really does have a lot to offer but some of it lies slightly below the surface. I'm glad to share, and that you found it useful!
Thanks for your comment, and for watching. I think the Peak really has a lot to offer, when you take the time to dig in: hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I do!
Thanks for watching, and for your comment. I really do enjoy the Peak: it feels like it manages to be broad and deep while still being approachable. It's a go-to synth for me and I can't see that changing!
Thanks for the comment! I'm trying to put out more tutorial content, but hoping to avoid overlap with existing material in style and content: if you have any ideas for more of this type of material, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks for watching and for your comment. I'm glad you found the video useful. I hope these videos take some of the mystery out of the sound design process!
Thanks for the comment, watching and subscribing. If you have anything particular you'd like me to cover then let me know; the hardest part of making content is sometimes deciding what exactly people want or need to know.
@ChalkWalkMusic i like synthesizers a lot but my adhd obstructs me from grasping some concepts due to inability to focus. Your explanation made perfect sense. Saved up a summit a year ago, but my FM sounds were horribly inharmonic. Thx to you it actually starts to make sense. What a wonderful instrument. Please make more content ;) have a nice day man.
Thanks for the comment, and for watching. I'm a big fan of the Peak; it's definitely not underrated, but I feel like a lot of people don't appreciate the depth and breadth of what it can do. It's definitely my desert island synth (assuming I get a controller too)? As for spacecraft; I cannot comment, for reasons of galactic diplomacy.
@@ChalkWalkMusic We have owned ours since 2018. Use it on a lot of our tracks. Thank you again! Look forward to seeing content. Will be sure to check back regularly.
No, I don't have a Hydrasynth, though I did read the manual when it was released. If I remember correctly they have a 'mutator' for FM; this lets you use one of the other oscillators, or another sound source as a modulator (while the oscillator itself acts as a carrier). The means each oscillator can function as a 2 operator FM voice. In a sense, each oscillator works similarly to the FM oscillator algorithm on the MicroFreak; it might be worth checking out my MicroFreak FM video: ruclips.net/video/QG8ZWO9mH6o/видео.html . I think you could employ a similar approach to each oscillator to get a similar result to the sound I got from the Peak. Anyway: thanks for watching, and for your comment!
FYI I started doing a series on the Hydrasynth (explorer). I explored the FM mutant a little and can see how it's both powerful, and a little confusing. I'm planning on doing a similar video to this one, but for the Hydrasynth, so keep your eye out for it.
Thanks for your comment, and for watching. All modulations work the same way on the Peak: two sources, a destination and an intensity. There is no way to modulate a mod slot intensity with another modulation source, but you have two sources. Typical FM usage would be applying an envelope to animate the FM amount. You can, however, place another modulation sources in the second source slot. This will effectively multiply the two source values. Note that you can't separately adjust the intensity of the effect of velocity in this case, but remember that modulations apply addictively. This means, to control the amount of velocity sensitivity, you can use two modulation slots: one slot applying only envelope to FM amount (the non velocity sensitive part), one slot applying envelope and velocity to the FM amount (the velocity sensitive part). In this way you get reasonable control: you can use similar methods for any modulations. I hope this helps.
Thanks for your comment, and for watching. No, I'm not a teacher, but that (teaching in university) is actually a career I considered; it's something I enjoy and take opportunities to take part in when they arise.
Thanks for the feedback, though looking at the video it doesn't seem that bad: mostly just a bit of dust/some fingerprints that are accentuated by the lighting. Not that it's not worth wiping: this comment just made me imagine it looked much worse.
@@ChalkWalkMusic fair enough. It may looked bad to me because I didn't come across a video before with gear looking like that. Maybe one. To be fair it shows that you use it 😂🙈 But looks yucky in the video thats all. Content wise...great video nonetheless.
Nice work! 👏
Thanks for the comment! I'm a big fan of Peak, so I'm sure there will be some more sound design videos to come.

Finaly!! Showcasing the fm capabilities of peak, i understand substractive synthesis, but not fm, so i was thirsty for this type of content!!

i also type in an unintentional "s" in "subtract/ive" - anyone else? 🙂 (i think it's a spanish/portuguese thing, hehe )
Great video, thanks. Just picked up a Peak and still have to get into FM. and the wavetables, been enjoying the basics so far. Keep up the good work!

Cool video. But please, give your peak a wipe before filming. That thing looks like a ground zero for covid.
