@Prepare your ass because pablo No what makes a great artist is if their music moves the soul. Kendrick's albums have such a cohesive way of moving the sprit. Not that lupe isnt great either... but lets be real here.

Stronger lyricist: Lupe. Stronger projects?: Kendrick by a hair. I think if you're comparing lyrics, Lupe is a better lyricist then Kendrick. But if youre comparing artists work? I would say Kendrick edges Lupe out by a hair because of Lupes rather bad projects. But Drogas Wave, The Cool, Food and Liquor and Tetsuo and Youth I think can stand up to Section 80, Good Kid, TPAB and Damn. It's a really tough call.
this is a good, nuanced, non-bias answer. Lyricist: Lupe wins easily. Catalogue: I'll also take Lupe, but that's just my preference. Kendrick has some great projects as well.
Massive L. Lupe’s best projects put that frauds catalogue to shame people like you make me hate hip hop. Lupe shits on him all day everyday but because Kendrick is in a era of shit rappers he looks good
I’ve tried listening to Kendrick a few times. I can’t get into most of his songs. Lupe has proven he can make more accessible music. But he’s chosen to “proceed to the next level ” I think lupe is better at mainstream and layered music. But that’s just my opinion.
@Michaell Alexander lmao, he said Lupe doesn't have a GKMC or TPAB like #bruh.. maybe you can compare em to F&L or The cool, still it ain't close but that'd make more sense.. T&Y?? Whutt?!! Shit's in a galaxy of it's own.. most these kids don't know what they talkin boyt bc they don't know Lupe but wanna get in on the convo.. theres a reason pretty much just about every respected longtime critic here goes w/ Lupe, the you see the stans in the comments talkin bout tpab & gkmc.. lol Edit. Just wanna add, when discussing ''classics'', illmatic was a classic, so was reasonable doubt, and Ready to Die, including The Carter III etc.. you can say GKMC & F&L were classics, no doubt.. the thing is Lupe brought to the table something totally different & there isn't a category/title for something higher than a ''classic'' & that was T&Y.. it's its own genre & stands on its own.
Lupe was ahead to time with The Cool and F& L these albums are more 2010s vibes than 2000s, man even now still ahead to time with masterpiece likes T&Y and Drogas Wave. Kdot is dope but Lupe is a GOAT.
Lupe is in a small one percent of rappers at the top for lyricism wit people like MF DOOM and Nas where as kendrick is more so in the top 5 or 10 percent
Nah I'd say Kendrick and Nas are on that same percent level. Lupe and MF DOOM fit into the underground lyricist percent as they didn't need mainstream success to achieve.
The Hive Productions I’d say nas is probably the best lyricist of all time since he has the most poetic verses ever. Look at one mic and rewind. But that being said Kendrick is like a top 15 lyricist of all time where as Lupe is probably a top or top 10.
@@salem-p3l doom is a fantastic lyricist but to say nobody comes close is.. .a bit much. lupe's verses on tetsuo and youth/food and liquor/the cool can easily compete with doom's verses on madvillainy/vaudeville villain/mm food, at least in my opinion.

Melon I think you brought up some great points but I disagreed with you when you said “Kendrick is a worse lyricist because he has a slightly darker skin color”. Other than that I appreciate your claims.
Lupe addressed this on his live a month or so ago. He’s made it clear that he admires Kendrick as an artist. It’s not a beef thing. He explained it like all the greats in hip hop have their core/signature strengths. When it comes to writing, that’s Lupe’s
For Lupe to say Kendrick is the better artist was his way in meeting Kendrick fans half way. This is a guy who made albums like Food & Liquor, The Cool, Tetsuo & Youth, and Drogas waves. Two of those albums are masterpieces btw, and the other 3 has some of the most artistic songs created in Hip Hop. Has Kendrick been more consistent then Lupe? Yes. Kendrick hasn’t made a bad album yet like Lupe has. Does that make Kendrick a better artist then Lupe? Probably. They both have masterpieces that has proven Hip Hop is just more then beats and rhymes with albums like TPAB, and Tetsuo & Youth. And they are both great in their own right. Like Anthony said you might of not even have a Kendrick if it wasn’t for Lupe doing what he did first and who knows where Lupe would be at if he had a label that supported him and gave him more creative feeling. I think they’re both great in their own right and should be held in that regard. And not be put against each other
@@king_vision4085 nah. Lupe is more intricate with his words, sometimes even too intricate. Kendrick uses simple striking words to paint the bigger picture and connect with the audience. Lupe is point precision with his words to do the same, he's like an encyclopedia. Every song on Tetsuo and Youth shows that.
I love both of them to the point that they're comfortably sitting in my personal top 5. However, I will concede that I am a bigger Lupe fan as I believe he has 4 absolutely amazing projects (F&L, Cool, T&Y, and Wave) in comparison to Kendrick's 2 (GKMC & TPAB). Also, while I will say that Kendrick has a greater sense of how to work with an instrumental, melody, and at times makes more passionately delivered and anthemic stories, what can't be denied is that Lupe has done that in spades as well. Look at Hip Hop Saved My Life, Kick Push, Prisoner 1 & 2, Wav Files, and the Forever duology.
I think what Kendrick has in stylistic precision, and by that I mean saying exactly what he means but artfully and creatively, Lupe has in complicated layers, getting to the point through metaphor on metaphor. They're different for sure.
Both have been in my top 10 since the first album I heard from each of them. I feel listening to KDot is like watching a Scorsese picture and Lupe is like Black Mirror. Both fantastic and suit different moods. I don't need to choose.

Lupe's lyricism is absolutely insane, he is undoubtedly a better lyricist than Kendrick. You can argue that Kendrick puts out better quality projects, but bar for bar I'm going Lupe.
Nah he’s definitely not undoubtedly better. Just because Lupe’s bars sound more “technical” or “complicated” due to a crazy amount of double entendres and other wordplay techniques, doesn’t mean he’s a “better” lyricist. Is Joyce a better writer than Faulkner because his novels are more complicated? Are Dream Theater “better” musicians than Radiohead because they write 20+ minute songs with different time signatures and long solos? There’s skill in creating lyrically dense, cohesive albums like Kendrick does, and he’s truly in a class of his own in that regard.
Martin V To my main point, Dream Theater is more technically proficient; they’re all virtuosos. But writing has to matter at some point when determining who the “better” musician is. Dream Theater is one of my favorite bands but I still I think Radiohead writes circles around them. Greenwood couldn’t play half of Petrucci’s solos, yet Dream Theater could never write an album like Kid A. Versatility also matters too. Radiohead is a more versatile band, and Greenwood writes scores for movies. Innovation in sound/recording techniques can come into play as well. Radiohead is good on that front, as is Jordan Rudess and Petrucci in particular from Dream Theater.
This is manufactured controversy. It's all because Lu has repeatedly praised Drake but not Kendrick and Kendrick fans couldn't handle it. Then you have music writers looking for the next clickbait and bam, a new fake beef emerges.
I think "The Cool" by Lupe is one of the greatest songs across any genre I've ever heard! It dug in my soul when I heard it. Kendrick has his own appeal tho but feel Lupe is a few steps ahead
That may be true, but Kendrick is in another planet sonically l, so... And it’s just poor form to go out and say “oh, I’m a better blah blah blah than whoever” It just makes you look either desperate, petty, or insecure, especially when you’re going after someone like Kendrick, who hasn’t really gone after anyone since his Control verse
I know I’m preaching to the choir in this community but I get so worked up when someone says Kendrick is “one of the most overrated rappers of all time”. I’ve heard that so many times and I can’t even fathom why.

(In many songs, especially in rock, pop, and dance music, a bass or drum part is so integral to the song that it becomes as important as the melody).
Someone who gets songwriter credits doesn't actually mean that he wrote the lyrics. It could also be someone who helped with the vocal performance or even a sample. For example: Notorious BIG got songwriter credits for Sicko Mode by Travis. Now i don't think it's realistic to think that Big was in the studio with Travis.
Lupe is a better lyricist but Kendrick is the better musician/ artist
How? Lyrics aren’t the only things included in a song
Prepare your ass because pablo that’s so wrong man
@Prepare your ass because pablo No what makes a great artist is if their music moves the soul. Kendrick's albums have such a cohesive way of moving the sprit. Not that lupe isnt great either... but lets be real here.
@Prepare your ass because pablo OK cool, let's just listen to rappers with no beat say words with only the echo of their own voice since you think lyrics are all that matter lol tf are you talking about? Your take is so basic minded. Songs are way more than just the bars. Kendrick makes better songs and lupe has better lyrics from a technical standpoint. This cannot be argued. Listen to murals by lupe, fantano even pointed it out in this video. That song is 6 minutes of God like bars with no hook.
@Prepare your ass because pablo uh nah. because hopsin has better lyrics than travis scott but id shake my 5 month old cousin before i listen to hopsin. Or even say he makes better music because he has better lyrics

It's a really tough call.
this.
this is a good, nuanced, non-bias answer. Lyricist: Lupe wins easily. Catalogue: I'll also take Lupe, but that's just my preference. Kendrick has some great projects as well.
Kendrick being more accessible and more versatile (a billion voices) makes him the better artist. Agreed with everything though.
Lupe has better projects
Massive L. Lupe’s best projects put that frauds catalogue to shame people like you make me hate hip hop. Lupe shits on him all day everyday but because Kendrick is in a era of shit rappers he looks good
Kendrick is what Lupe should have been.
I’ve tried listening to Kendrick a few times. I can’t get into most of his songs.
Lupe has proven he can make more accessible music. But he’s chosen to “proceed to the next level ”
I think lupe is better at mainstream and layered music. But that’s just my opinion.
@Michaell Alexander lmao, he said Lupe doesn't have a GKMC or TPAB like #bruh.. maybe you can compare em to F&L or The cool, still it ain't close but that'd make more sense.. T&Y?? Whutt?!! Shit's in a galaxy of it's own.. most these kids don't know what they talkin boyt bc they don't know Lupe but wanna get in on the convo.. theres a reason pretty much just about every respected longtime critic here goes w/ Lupe, the you see the stans in the comments talkin bout tpab & gkmc.. lol
Edit.
Anthony prefers Kendrick?!? Shocking
No one even come close to DOOM, Lupe is far behind
@@salem-p3l doom is a fantastic lyricist but to say nobody comes close is.. .a bit much. lupe's verses on tetsuo and youth/food and liquor/the cool can easily compete with doom's verses on madvillainy/vaudeville villain/mm food, at least in my opinion.

I now present you with the award of worlds funniest man. Congratulations dude...
And not be put against each other
Kendrick has never made songs like mural or wav files

Macklemore has my vote!
Nah Tom McDonald

Dapez except cole isnt mid
The Cool blew my mind in high school man. Never heard creative concepts like that in a rap album before
Both have been in my top 10 since the first album I heard from each of them. I feel listening to KDot is like watching a Scorsese picture and Lupe is like Black Mirror. Both fantastic and suit different moods. I don't need to choose.
Dr. Seuss would kill Lupe any day.

Bars on Lupe fiascos new track BBQ Chicken better then any bar kendrick ever said tbh
“People using big words to make their similes heard, my simpler shit be more pivotal...”
@@KevinWidesouls Dream Theater are undoubtedly better musicians than Radiohead.
@@KevinWidesouls You get more content from Lupe...
@@KevinWidesouls they dont just sound that way they are, go on genius
