He has almost inarguably the greatest or at worst the 3rd best discography of all time. I don't think that's a statement more than 30% of rap fans would disagree with. To me that matters way more than some dude having tons of impressive rhyme schemes and lyrics. Complex doesn't mean better. It's best rappers, not lyricists. And Kanye is unquestionably in the top 15 of best rap music released. And he's really top 3 if we're talking about the music and not the hip hop head version of lyricist.
I think rap in general has gone through so much growth and change over its history that it’s insanely difficult to limit a greatest list to just 50 artists ever. Each generation of rappers you could probably make a top 50 of and still leave some people off.
I thought the list was barely okay but the fact big boi wasn’t on it and Rick Ross got a spot was crazy. Sure he’s not as good as André but he’s just as vital and almost equally as skilled
Your comment was the most intelligent and insightful comment on greatest list in music sports or anything else almost because it's always the greatest of that period of time and people don't take into account how things have changed I personally think in basketball players in the '50s and '60s and '70s should be considered greater because they did it first and players from the '80s '90s and on had to learn from those earlier players and how to even play the game
@@TheLordAizen it was crazy. Black brought the knowledge. The hook from Q tip was amazing and Best Em verse I heard in years too. His list at the end of his verse was better than the billboard list 😂😂😂
I think Macs variation of music from happy teenager to stressed adult was amazing. I didn't think he was going to say Mac Miller, then he said Mac Miller. I was so happy. It is an absolute catastrophe that he died. It was totally avoidable. And now we will never get new beautiful music from Malcolm.
I’m personally not that disappointed with Tyler not being on this list, seeing as he has been very consistent in not wanting to be regarded as a rap artist specifically in his comment on his issues with the urban/rap category of the Grammys during his interview in which he won a Grammy for Igor for the best rap album, even though he himself said it wasn’t a rap album. So while he does deserve recognition with all of the influence and recognition he’s gained and contributed to the hip hop game in recent years, I don’t think that recognition should come from this list for his sake. But yeah, no slick Rick, no doom, no de la soul cuts or another wu tang cut was a bummer from this list. Also to anyone saying JID should’ve been on this list, he needs some time to grow still. Just let him cook for a bit.
I dont think thats what he was saying tho... He disparaged the Grammys having an "urban" category due to how obviously condescending (and potentially racist) that is but hes no doubt a hip hop artist that deserves to be recognized among others

I think part of the listing has to come with the fact that the 50 artists mentioned had their music charted well with Billboard. So, if they took the stats of how many songs landed on top 100, and how many weeks they stayed on Billboard - that might factor a great amount of why the chose these 50 artists. Unfortunately MF DOOM and Zev Love X (KMD)'s music weren't the type that chart on Billboard.

As someone who has listen to at least 5 songs by MF Doom and gaped throughout the whole track due to the greatness of the rhyme scheeme, it feels criminal to do him dirty like that and set him aside from at least top 20
50s impact can’t be forgotten both in his prime and now. 50 and G Unit dominated a good 3 years at least over everyone from 2003-2006 so his impact then can’t be argued with. Nowadays, how many bars reference a classic 50 lyric/song? How many artists are there especially in the drill genre that 50 influenced majorly? (Pop Smoke, Fivio Foreign, a lot of UK Drill artists) His impact now is similar to artists like Rakim, Eminem, Nas, Jay Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne on the generations after them. Although he doesn’t have the pen and the skill of those artists (bar probably Kanye but his discography>50s) his chorus game is unmatched which can’t be understated given a good chorus leads to commercial success and sometimes makes songs iconic. He’s on my top 50 but I understand leaving him off. GROTD and The Massacre are two good albums as well as his mixtape runs being so influential for mixtapes.

I'd really love to see a list bold enough to put Kendrick #1. As great as Jay Z is, he's never released something as monumental as TPAB or GKMC. I feel like the only reason he hasn't been crowned yet is because his discography is still pretty small, but I wonder when we see a list that says screw it and puts him there and if other lists then follow suit.
I agree but it might come down to the whole rapper vs artist debate again. Had this been top 50 hip-hop artists would we have maybe seen Kendrick no 1?
Even if GKMC and TPAB beats out any Jay album, Jay still has more classics, and significantly more influence on the genre. In 10-20 years time Kendrick being #1 would make sense, but right now? Not for me.
You have to remember that that is only your opinion. Many people do think that Jay has an album that can compete with TPAB and GKMC, usually The Blueprint or Reasonable Doubt. For me TBP is better than GKMC and about at the same level as TPAB. And Jay also has more classics and his work has stood the test of time… And I’d call him more versatile too as his style has evolved while maturing. I’m sure that in 10 years we will start seeing Kendrick #1 at some lists. And you should be happy enough as a Kendrick fan that he got a #2 spot. I wouldn’t put him over Jay and Nas yet personally
Kendrick himself will tell you Jay is #1. He’s still producing high quality and relevant rap in his 50s. Never been a thing in hip-hop so he’ll always be ahead

And Jay also has more classics and his work has stood the test of time… And I’d call him more versatile too as his style has evolved while maturing. I wasn’t even trying to argue with them I just said IMO Mos should be above him… It’s not worth arguing over lmao. “I’ve never heard of Mos Def” “His shit hasn’t ever been played on the radio” like okay? Imagine admitting that?☠️
But I do think that Future has a lot of influence on trap and basically any contemporary rap music made after 2012.
Bro why you on Facebook in the first place
Nah Future has Yasin beat on influence n relevance on the game. Yas is a better rapper but Future can consistently make hits and sellout tours
Being the best is about a lot more than sales. It's why Jay-Z is a joke of a #1 choice
Futures impact on rap has been crazy, I get that fantano heads including myself don’t usually enjoy making lists that base themselves primarily on commercial success but this one was very clearly meant to be the “greatest” not the “best” so there’s no real point in arguing on Facebook
Don't be shocked of anything in any social media
No Tech N9ne, no Big Pun, no Royce Da 59, no MF DOOM, no Canibus? Fucked up list.

The next list is ranking De La Soul albums weakest to greatest! Since your channel is influential and your reviews/breakdowns are in-depth this would serve as a guide and deep dive for the uninitiated.
