I really respect Fantano. I rarely agree with him but I always understand why he’s saying what he’s saying and I find that helpful. He genuinely loves music and has introduced me to a lot of great stuff so I really like fantano.

Thats true, and i liked it quite a bit out the gate. But i also got the pleasure of catching the release tour as he passed through Amsterdam. I listened to the songs a lot in the lead up to the performance, and somehow now a year later im still listening to it just as much. Ive never gone to a concert that struck me as much as his did.

Say what you want about damn but section.80 deserves more praise. Sonically impressive, culturally relevant to this day and overall a very solid project. On par with GKMC in my eyes and easily better than most albums released in the 2010s

i love section 80, super underreated. its got its hits with adhd and rigamortis, but there's so many overlooked bangers on it. it isn't even on the same level as gkmc tho.

Same, sure if you listen through it normally its a 7, but when u really get into it, see the story of the album and how it presents 2 stories makes it another Opus. The story of peace creates blessings, and violence creates death is within the album you just have to figure it out first.

From a lyrical, and story aspect GKMC is the best but purely on how good the music sounds DAMN. Is the best.
@@Alejadro_Music I like DAMN like I do anything from Kendrick, but I'd argue TPAB sounds better. Like the jazz and funk influences he brings onto the album, and the overall production is just on a whole another level, generally speaking. I'd say even GKMC sounds better but that's not to say DAMN doesn't sound good, it's just the former are some of the best albums ever.
@@yogicentralyt I agree, I really enjoy the jazz and funk influences TPAB brings especially Wesley’s theory (my favorite off this album) but I like the way the softer slower songs on DAMN, like pride, yah, and love, a lot more. It’s mostly personal preference now but I like the calmer vibe of some DAMN songs and the more aggressive like XXX and DNA.

#1 FAN KENDRICK LAMAR
I joined the Kendrick wave in 2016, having found a new love for “music listening” in my teens. TPAB is still in my top 3/2 (I know, how original) and it was the first time I bought into that collective excitement for an artists new album, namely DAMN.
When Fantano reviewed it, I too was perplexed, and rewatching it, it does feel that perhaps the slight drop-off from GKMC and TPAB influenced how scathingly critical he was about it (even though he still gave it a 7, which isn’t bad)…
But yeah, as much as I enjoy DAMN. still, it’s not Kendrick’s best, and that’s ok! It’s an album in which the biggest songs like Duckworth, FEAR and DNA are (still) breathtaking, while the smaller ones (GOD & LUST) haven’t aged all that well.
It’s an 8/10, realistically.

I agree with the Damn rating. Good album but has some of Kendrick’s most overrated work on it. Never really understood the hype. Good kid, butterfly and Mr. Morale are all way better in my opinion.

Nah the fact he gave TPAB a 10 as soon as it came out is so telling of his ratings. He’s correct so often.
My opinion but,I think damn is a 10/10 because it’s just so in depth and I have rarely ever seen an album that has 2 endings.This guy is a melon,damn is a piece of art that he worked so hard on and managed to satisfy people with a story that can change depending on the way you play it. Fantano I’m starting to think that you doubt Kendrick is as good of an artist as he really is.

,“Damn” is one of my favorite albums
DAMN. Is an amazing concept but it's just that some of the songs are not nearly as enjoyable and some are barely rap songs. I think if he decided to make it a regular rap album, while keeping the same concept, it would have been a better result overall.

Yeah I don't understand the DAMN hate. I thought it was a great album with many bangers like XXX., LOVE., PRIDE., ELEMENT., and DUCKWORTH. They're all so good I don't understand why it's everyones least favorite album.

If you think him giving a 7 is hating then you probably haven't seen his mbdtf review yet. 7 is what I would give to a very good album too. 9s and 10s are only preserved for the all time greats which Damn certainly is not

Probably because fantano is hard on lyricism and poetry and while DAMN has absolute bangers, if you compare it to his other albums in this video, they fall short and a lot more tracks feel like they’re for casual listeners.
@ot1346 DUCKWORTH. tells the story of a sequence events that had to happen for Kendrick to make it. It's his best conceptualized song and every lyric matters to the story. FEAR. Goes through Kendrick being at the ages 7, 17, and 27. It tells his fears at each of those ages and how it developed him into the person he is and what he learns from them. XXX. is commenting on how Kendrick views America and how he escaped the life he had before. It has similar things to GKMC and talks about what it really means to live for eachother. There's 3 more songs I could explain the lyrical and conceptualization behind. Sure, it doesn't have a over arching theme and story like GKMC. And it isn't giving justice and truth to a entire country of people like TPAB. But it means something. It tells the good and evils of Kendricks story. It is definitely his 3rd best album by far.

I don't think it's about people making gkmc to better than it was, I think mmatbs is his most emotional and complex album that is beautiful but not easy to understand at first, it's different and I think in time it'll be appreciated more, for me gkmc is a 9 or 10 easily, and mmatbs is probably a 9 he's the goat

I mean no hate but you do realize that 10 means PERFECT, i understand tpab but damn and gkmc are not perfect. Perfect would be that every word, beat, sample, synth, bar, rhyme etc. Has ZERO room for improvement. Kendrick is great, but you are blowing it out of proportion.

he said damn means nothing originally (almost) but its just over his head believe it or not its actually kendricks most complex album i would recommend the video "why damn is a contradiction"
The problem with damn in my opinion is, that atleast to me after 10-15 plays in a short amount of time, i almost haven't visited a single song since except Duckworth. I feel like songs on the album only have so mcuh to say, that now after listening to them a few times, i dont get anything new out of them. Maybe im missing something, but it just seems like the internet "over-hypes" this album.
