Beautiful, dreamy, and poetic, as always! 😍I love that elevated ruler trick to achieve the super straight rigging lines! Clever. I'll have to remember that for situations where I want such an effect. I also really like how you barely touched the immediate foreground, minimal light washes and the unfinished/unpainted area of dry brush in the lower left. It adds to the dreaminess of the scene. As do the sharp lines of the boat with no sails (or transparent gossamer sails!) floating on an invisible body of water. Quite an effect. Bravo!😁

Thank you for such a thoughtful and kind comment, I really appreciate it! I am glad you noticed a very light and transparent wash in the foreground and the abundance of white space in this scene - I always try to apply as few washes as possible to express what I am trying to say… Watercolours and a minimalist approach work so well together ✨

@@AnastasiaMily You're welcome. I've been watching a lot of Scott Swinson's videos and he makes the same point about not overworking. He's a big proponent of the larger Hake brushes, in the Ron Ranson style.

I love Scott Swinston’s work, it is so ethereal!! He studied with the great Tony Smibert, who is one of my favourite watercolour painters too.

Beautiful as always, one thing I have taken away is that when you added the texture with the sponge, was, less is more. Thank Anastasia for another inspirational watercolour ❤

Thank you so much Julie! Yes, so well observed - less is definitely more when it comes to using the sponge. I find that if I keep on ‘tapping’ the sponge on paper all the colours blend together into one shapeless blob. One little ‘tap’ is often enough.
